Jaguar XFR ambient lighting install - phase 2

  • Having done a good job on future-proofing my first ambient project in the car by creating clips at the light points around the car, I'm able to hook up more lighting as I go along.
    It's important to ensure that when you start the first phase to ensure that every point has clips where your lights clip into so that you can expand if you want. This includes footwells and under seats.
    Using this methodology, I'm able to plan on wiring up the rear the doors in the future.

    I just did this today on my Infiniti Q70 sedan, looks great, thanks for the inspiration. I think you should look into the possibility of installing ambient lighting on the upper curved section of the front seat back, plastic panels, i did it last week and it turned it out fantastic. It makes the rear seats a much better place to be at night.

    Hi Hilton and greetings from Scotland . I just found your channel and it is so informative .
    I wondered if you could do a video on the sound systems of the two cars . I just got a new 2016 XF 3.0 and Have to say the meridian sound system is not a patch on the previous meridian sound system .
    How meridian put their name to this baffles me .

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Kevin - I did a review on the Meridian last year some time and recently did one on the B&W - in my opinion, the B&W is better than the standard Meridian, however, the top of the range Meridian is pretty good. It compares pretty well to the B&W but the problem with the standard Meridian is that it's pathetic compared to even Jaguar's standard sound system.

    • @kevdav0
      @kevdav0 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for coming back to me Hilton . Do you think the old Jag system would fit into the new car , either Meridian or Bowers and Wilkins , retrofit ?I can’t live with the present system !!!

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevdav0 Key Kevin, a retrofit would be near impossible. You'd have to remove the interior, entirely to run all the wiring and replace the speakers as well as sub in the trunk. The best thing to do is buy one with the upgraded stereo. That's also one of the reasons I sold my X260 due to its bottom of the line Meridian. I thought it had the top tier system and was aghast when I found out how poor the sound was in a Jag of all cars. Jaguar should leave entry level sound out of their cars. It's a luxury car and luxury should be the base of where they begin with their options, starting with the sound system, quality of materials, ergonomics and leave the colors as the spec options.

    Hi have you ever heard of fishing it's done with a piece of firm wire with a small huck on one end and tape your wire to the other and just feed the closed huck through parts you can't see.

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, thanks Derick. I've done that before with my Mazda CX5 running the dashcam cable through the tailgate boot that housed the wires. Problem is, there is NO space whatsoever in that Jaguar's boot to even put the thinnest wire. It's jam packed.

    I take it you’re planning on keeping this car for many years to come? Since you’re spending all this time on the modifications on it?
    Have you done a video on this car about your washing/cleaning routine? I can’t remember myself? If not i think that would be a good video idea 😁

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jon. For now, I will be keeping it. It's a great car. I've done wash videos before and nobody seemed interested in them because the views were low. I wash my XFR once a week. Basically rinse down, soap, rinse and dry. I am planning a driving review of this car as soon as it's service is done in April. I think many will find that informative 😉. Thanks for watching

    Iam currently doing this upgrade, do you have to go off the middle dome light or could you tap into fuse F22 cigar lighter?

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do either. But keep in mind I planned hiw many lights I'd have from the start so when I ran my main wore from the dome light I created a splitter plug that split into 6 or 7 connectors which allowed me to add more lighting over time. Personally I try and stay away from the fuse box, only dashcams hooked up to fuse boxes in the past. It can get messy down there very quickly and when something goes wrong with the car the first thing the technician is gonna blame is your fuse connections.

    • @joshb9657

    I own a XF(X260) and having trouble with replacing reversing lights to LED. If it's possible, could you upload DIY video of replacing reversing lights to LED for XF? Thank you so much!

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was under the impression the X260 already had LED reverse lights. I know the X250 has H16 incandescent bulbs for it's reverse lights and there LED's available to replace them. Unfortunately, I can't do any videos on the X260 as I no longer have one. I now have the X250 XFR.

      @@dhahn2113 This means you will have to remove the tail light by getting the carpet out the way. To do that, you will have to remove the plastic cover covering the trunk lock and then the carpet can easily be pulled back. There will most likely be 3 or 4 bolts holding the tail light onto the body - once you undo those, you can pull the light housing from the car to get access to the bulb holders. From what I can see, the bulb itself is a T15 which you can see here www.en.xenovision.it/led-backup-lamp-jaguar-xf-x260-c-22750 and here's a pick of the tail light on eBay which will give you an idea of what the back side of the light housing looks like ;) www.ebay.com/itm/2016-2017-2018-JAGUAR-XE-LEFT-DRIVER-SIDE-OEM-LED-TAILLIGHT-TAIL-LIGHT-16-17-18/124251246684?hash=item1cedf3905c:g:1CsAAOSwIaNfBLwq
