Other common faults you missed are: 1. door locks failing, especially the driver's door. 2. Rotating air vent not working due to a stripped plastic gear (usually the one on the right hand side) - an easy and cheap DIY fix. 3. Leather covering to dash debonding/bubbling.
@@mohamads367 had the door lock failing in 2016 xf . driver door would not latch. it needed bungy cord to hold close for the drive home. disconnect car battery overnight and reconnect. reconnected the door lock worked again
Had my 2013 XF D2.2 since new in 2013. Over 135,000 miles. It's had new brake calipers and a new EGR this week for the MOT. That's the first trouble in 135,000 miles. I have an advisory for prop shaft bearing but it's not noisy so it can wait. It's a high mileage car and I've more than had my money out of it. Brilliant.
I had a 2010 car that did 45000 miles in 3 years, currently driving a 2013 model, coming up 4.5 years old with 74000 miles. Never had a single one of these issues.
Had my 2011 for 6 years now. Just an issue with one of the overhead interior lights staying on, and the tire pressure sensor being replaced. Love my baby.
Darned TPMS doohickies! They've taking over from the, "Check Engine Light" to make dealers wealthy for a "nonsense" job. $560 to replace all four. (To replace 4 tire valves and re-balance tires... Really?)
Everyone, thank you for all of your comments. I'm buying an XF at the end of this year for my business. I've had a ton of people try to talk me out of it. Not one of them has ever owned one. I'd rather take advice from other Jag XF owners. The fact is, every car on the planet will sooner or later have issues.
Think of it this way: The main guts are - barring the cooling issues noted which I also had on my XJ Supercharged - very solid. The superchargers are lower maintenance than a turbo. The engines are lower RPM than a comparable turbo V8 or V6 from the Germans so they have less stress and should last better. The transmissions are reliable ZF units. The brakes and suspension are basically German parts bin. The hood struts even are German. So, yes, it's "English", but it's really made from sound parts for the most part.
Get the extended warranty and everything is taken care of. I am on my 2nd XF and looking for a 3rd later this yr. they are great cars with very very low maintenance issues. Without a warranty any high performance luxury car will be expensive to repair. Most extended warranties run about $1200 to $2500 USD, Jaguar CPO certification goes up to 100,000 mi. I have owned Mercedes, BMW, Corvette, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Ford. Jaguar is the best bang for the buck combination of performance and luxury.
Good for you not letting a group of uneducated idiots talk you out of buying a great car. I'm on my 2nd Jaguar, the 1st an 03 S Type. Drove it for 13 years and 157k well loved miles. Never in the shop. Now I have a 2022 XF Supercharged edition. 75k miles and not has anything in the list broke but nothing else either. I did have to replace the battery at 6 years old. That's it. Enjoy your new Jaaaaaaag
I would imagine that they were telling you get BMW/AUDI/MERC (yawn) bla bla bla, well good on you for not following their advice. I personally broke the mould and just got a 3 year old IS 300 H - F SPORT and I'm bloody lovin it (drivers of the boring 3 brands above are continuously turning thier heads to look at my car).

I've had my current XF from new for 4 years now and had none of these issues! However, the only problem I have had is the reversing camera not working (blank screen) which was rectified by replacing one of the rear parking sensors. Other than this not a single problem - lovely car.
My XF is 7 years old other than having the Air con recharged last month, the odd bulbs and the usual brakes and tyres replaced, it has been pretty bulletproof
Have had my 2010 XF 3.0L S Luxury for 18 months now. Only issue I have had is hazard flashers coming on and staying on by themselves. Disconnected batter for an hour, reconnected but I did not try to start it or use any switches. Left it overnight, started car, problem solved and the car has went perfectly since, Great car.
I am driving 2012 facelifted XF 2.2D for 8 full years and 100.000 kms. I had none of the mentioned problems. Instead, I had a passenger side locking problem, AC problem which I haven't solved yet and of course the sticky buttons. Other than that it's a great car, way better that same year E-class, 5 class and A6
Same as the rest. I've had my XF SV8 since 2009, 140k miles. Not had one of these issues. The only non routine work I've had done is a new exhaust (after grounding it), and replacement of the coolant tank. Most reliable car I've ever had. I feel sorry for Ford. They fixed the company then sold it just as it paid off. Mine is a keeper!
That's awesome I'm glad you haven't had any problems, I purposely didn't get the supercharged with the 5.0 as I heard it had supercharger issues. My 2010 and a 5.0 has been very reliable except for the coolant crossover pipe they cost me 3K but I was driving very hard on it stupidly one night. I had the 4.2 in my XJ and it was a great engine. I really want your rims LOL those twenties are my favorite Jag rims ever!!
Well, 170k miles now. Last MOT said corrosion on springs, also the electronic parking brake has just failed...Still, not bad for such an old girl. And the Volans wheels! Yep I agree and love them too.
Had two xfs. brand new one in 2014 had no problems at all sold it with 60k on clock car was solid. I now have a 17 plate xf again no problems at all. I dont know why people think jags are unreliable in my household we have 3 my xf my sons have an xe an the other f type all seem bulletproof. Considering the f type gets thrashed about
I purchased an ex demo XF R Sport in August 2016, so far I have covered 52,000 miles and apart a rattle in the rear mirror casing which was fixed within the third week of purchasing the vehicle, it has been faultless. The mpg is not exactly as frugal as Jaguar claim, but that goes for most car manufacturers. The handling on 22 inch wheels is sublime, yet the ride is still smooth. I previously owned a BMW 535i for three years under contract, it was a shed, in particular electrical gremlins and at 70/75 mph it had a flat spot. I took it back on three occasions regarding the problem, but the BMW dealer insisted there was nothing wrong with it and refused to road test it as the issue was above the national speed limit. The XF is far superior in my opinion in nearly all departments.
I have a late 2015 XF 2.2 diesel with 8 speed box. Had none of the issues you mentioned, but ones I've had are intermittent passenger headlight fail, very rarely rear camera fail, but these are usually sorted by turning off the engine, waiting a few minutes and restarting. Don't ever let the battery die, that killed the door module programming, cost me £60 to have a 20 second reprogram. Bearing in mind I bought the car new and is now just over 5 years old with 160K on the clock, recent issues are the park brake lever has finally failed, needing a complete console replacement, and the passenger side of the heated windscreen has failed but the fuse is OK, I've been told this can be caused by burnt out wiring due to current draw (a common Ford fault, and this is basically a posh Mondeo). PS. I forgot to mention I use this as a taxi so it gets some hammer.
Had my 2012 XF-S for 4 years now. The washer issue is quite common to be honest. It's a basic design fault. The pump is too low in the tank so the crud that build up and should normally sit harmlessly at the bottom, gets dragged into the filter and clogs it up. Easy enough fix but you do have to remove the wheel and get behind the liner to pull the pump, then just clean the filter and flush the tank. I've also had a problem with the non return valve causing low pressure at the jets - again cheap/ easy to replace. Other issues are boot lid wiring loom breaking - needed a new one - again very common. Anyone with a facelift model - look into the issue with washer pumps wicking water to the central junction box - easy to swap the pump for a redesigned version but very expensive to fix if you ignore it.(I've replaced the pump and put a mechanical break in the wires). Other than that, pretty much problem free.
If only I had known about the washer pump issue before buying my 2012 XF S. Water has wicked to the Central Junction Box and corroded off the lowest pin on the connector... the brake pedal switch power supply line. Can no longer calibrate my parking brake, so that is currently inoperative, and when I apply brakes with medium to heavy pressure, I get "Gearbox Fault", "Emergency Brake Assist Fault", and my brake lights (all three of them) stop working until I power cycle the ignition.
@@JeanTheron-cf8zl The first thing I do when buying any car is to join and contribute to the forum for that particular model. That's where I learned about it. Amazing to see that was 5 years ago. Still have my Jag - still never missed a beat.
I must be lucky. I have a 2009 XFR 5.0Ltr V8 Supercharged model with sunroof and lots of nice features installed. It now has just under 90,000km on the clock. I have had NONE of the problems you describe in your video, but two that I have had that are not mentioned. The first was a "Boot Open" message which was incorrect. Biggest impact was that I could not lock the car electrically and had to do it manually with the key itself. Source of the problem was quickly identified by my Third Party Jaguar Service guys (who have seen this problem before). The wiring loom extending into the boot lid via a rubber conduit has a production problem in that the wire attached to the boot sensor is about a cm or so too short. Repeatedly opening and closing the boot broke the wire. The service guy fixed the problem by splicing in an extra 2-3cm of wire to reconnect and problem solved. The other problem is that the sunroof has slightly dipped on one of the front corners and no longer sits flush with the roof line. The sunroof, when in closed position, is still waterproof so there is no immediate problem. Trouble is the whole headlining will need to be removed to determine what needs to be fixed. Then the parts need to be ordered and received and installed and hopefully the problem will be solved. But the car will most likely be off-the-road for a week or so minimum (not to mention I will probably have to order multiple parts, not all of which may be needed. Ouch!). Living in Warsaw, Poland, will add to the delay, as the parts will need to be sourced from the U.K.. As you can guess, I have not yet tackled this problem. Other than the above, it is a wonderful car to own and I have now driven it through many of the mountain passes throughout Europe. I am an Australian enjoying my photography and I am having the best ever driving experiences. Just in case you're interested, it's a relatively big car with 510bhp on tap and on these trips I still average only 10.8Ltr/100km.
Things that will break - Number 6 - Creaking headliner ! - I've owned over 50 vehicles in my time and the XF is a joy to drive with an abundance of Grace Space and Pace.To date I've had no issues with it other than changing the front discs @ 44k and an air sensor fail ( shortly after not using the super unleaded in the 5.0 V8 as there was none available ). Both were cheap and easy fixes. Fabulous cars although I prefer the older model interior and dash.
@@davidwaddington9414 I had an x type for 3 years. Nothing wrong with that. Bentley it's a vw, rolls is a bimmer. I bet you wouldn't complain if you had one.
Windscreen washer failure is the filter grommet on the pump blocking. Remove the front wheel pull back the wheel arch liner and pull the pump and grommet. Just clean and refit. 30 min job. Most common failure on the XF is the boot lid wiring loom. It breaks at the grommet. Very easy to replace. Causes locking, parking sensor, camera etc to play up. New loom £75 from Jaguar.
I have a 2012 XF Supercharged edition. None of the things on the list or anything else has broke in 6 years and 75K+ miles. If the windows rest they aren't really broken, are they? All I've ever have to do on this amazzzzing. Car is to replace the battery at 6 years old. That's it and standard maintenance. Nothing beats Jaaaaaaag
First run production on the 2008 one have a chance of the windscreen delaminating. This was caused by bad batch from pilkington. Jaguar didnt issue a recall at the time and waited for users to contact them (at the time most under warranty). I picked up a low mileage 08 a few years ago going from my S Type and had it about a year before my main touch screen decided to go blank. Turned out the windscreen had delaminated under the seal allowing moisture in which ran along the cable bundle and shorted out 3 of the units. So wound up with new windscreen, 3 replacement units and a control bundle. They ended up with having to virtually strip the entire dashboard out, windscreen, seats, carpet and pretty much the entire front of it, Give Grange their due they did it quite quickly. So yeah, watch out for early glass. Oh and yes the battery draining does happen as well from time to time, just remember to run it or charge it up if you arent using it very often. I still have it and despite its occasional electrical quirks its a lovely car to drive and run, but then again, its a jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag.
@@howardneil8164 the video is literally explaining things that break regularly on jaguars , are you thick ? A modern jaguar won't last 15 years on the road . Cheap plastic and pleather interiors , that scratch and start falling apart . Compare a jag to a mercedes and then compare the price difference , then compare the reliability, there is no room in the modern era for vehicles that don't hold up to standards the automotive industry is a cut throat business . Go look at jag shares over the past 6 years . They won't be around 20 years from now
I have owned several jaguars from mk2, E type, and all variants of the XJ i currently own an XF, yes all cars have problems but I still think Jaguar in the hands of the right owner are a very good product proper maintenance makes all the difference..
I have a 2015 used jaguar for a year now with 3 good service history from jaguar. Touch wood i haven't experienced any faults. I'm loving my car so far
We've recently just traded in our 2012 XF after 93I miles. This the revised model (slimmer headlamps) from the vloggers. Really reliable, the only fault that matches his model was the reversing camera occasionally wouldn't switch on. I had the clips on the intercooler replaced with bolts by Jag Assistance at home after the clips came loose. One door mechanism was replaced under warranty after sticking. Front light cluster replaced under warranty Most serious, the battery and started motor had to be replaced under warranty. Look after the car, get it serviced, maybe keep a warranty up on it. They are really REALLY nice cars.
I'm on my second XF, first a 3.0 diesel and now a 5.0 supercharged XFR. I've not had a single one of these issues in five years and 50k miles. Half of these issues I've never even seen mentioned in the XF forums.
The main cause for battery draining is using a cheap ODB code reader which have been known to leave the computer running all the time. This can be fixed by disconnecting the battery lead for a few seconds after reading the codes. I have a 12 year old XF in which I have done 130k (155k total) and it has been great.
This is my 2nd XF and I just can't relate to the negative comments posted here. I drive the current 2ltr (2017) model and find it hard to fault , the previous generation was an excellent vechicle and the present model is quite superb. I honestly think that Victor Meldrew has quite a few rivals amongst xf owners, or are these people just a plie of spoilt complainers !! ??
I'm a Jaguar XF owner. I have a 3.0d from 2010. In my case the car has broken the engine two times. The first one with 200.000 kms, and the second one with 300.000 kms. The first time the engine was repaired by an oficial mechanical workshop, and they didn't tell me the reason of the problem. The second time I have brought the car to a specialits, they work is to repair and reconstruct engines of luxury cars. They have told me that the reason of the problem has been the anti-particle filter (FAP). It was saturated, and this makes that the fuel injected to clean it goes back to the engine, to the oil. This makes the oil to loose its properties what got the crankshaft broke into three pieces . As the official house didnt changed the FAP the first time, the engine got broken again after 100.000 kms. The problem is that this XF does not give any information about the health of the FAP, it is a big problem. It is a not very known problem, but there have been more than one jag diesel with this expensive fault.
Are you planning to buy a 2018 model or 2014 model go for the 2018 model JAGUAR XF 25T PORTFOLIO the startup is amazing and touch screen is brilliant I have one it amazing
I have owned an XFR for over 10 years. Fantastic car. All of these recommendations are good. There are a bunches of items you missed. starting with: 1. Coolant pipe crossover in the behind the supercharger needs to be added to the list of plastic coolant pipes to replace; fortunately they make all metal coolant/xover/thermostat for the 5.0L S/C now aftermarket. The OEM ones will continue to fail every 50k miles until you replace with metal. Make sure the rear crossover pipe in metal has the two screw flange not the 3 screw flange because the 3 goes to the V6. 2. The coolant tank has a internal sensor and pressure cap that can go bad and the tank itself can fail with the plastic hoses. Replace the whole tank and cap and hoses. 3. The black coolant bleeder screws on the top left of the engine bay by the fuse cover are $#!* plastic and get soft over time and can spring a leak that will definitely strand you on the road. There are some brass ones for $6 at any auto parts store that you can get for a lot of other cars like BMW's that will replace them forever. 4. Also the Engine/Transmission mounts need changing at this age along with the all the suspension bushings. 5. The transmission has a rectangle plastic seal called a mechatronic seal that you can buy a billet aluminum one to replace it with online; that when broken will make the transmission have a hard 2-1 shift that lunges the car coming to a stop. Replacing it with another OEM plastic one will still crack again and again and again until you replace it with a metal one. 6. You have to replace the transmission oil with ZF Lifeguard 6 fluid only and filter every 50K miles or your trans will start to lunch itself. Other types of fluid will cause malfunctions. Replace the paper clutches with metal ones. Refurb the Valve body with new solenoids. 7. Replace the diff oil every 50K as well. 8. There is a plastic breather valve on the diff that can clog and cause problems with its operation. Clean/Replace it. 9. The stock Fuel Direct Injectors need changing every 100k miles because they will fail from high heat and pressure over time and you want to run a fuel lubrication cleaner like lucas oil through them at least one a quarter to keep them tip top. Also make sure the replacement injectors are Bosch or OEM. Knockoffs are terrible quality and will fail and blow the engine. 10. The fuel pump fuel filter housing has some bad connector that will short out and cause starting problems that needs replacing every 100k. Its under the passenger rear seat. Look inside the connector, if there are burn marks in there, yours is bad. 11. The O2 sensors need replacing every 100k or you can start to get check engine codes. There are 4, two upstream and two downstream. Make sure they are Denso or Bosch or OEM brand, the knockoffs cause more problems. 12. Same for the two MAF sensors. They need to be Denso or OEM only and replaced every 100k. 13. I have heard the shock tower mounts can fail. Replace with OEM. 14. The rubber center driveshaft mount can fail causing drive-line vibration and also the rubber flex coupler isolators connecting the shaft to the diff and to the trans to the shaft get brittle over time and will fail. 15. Change Supercharger oil possibly add a S/C venom cooler from stagemeyer. While the supercharger is off, insulate the bottom of it with aspen aerogel from the engine heat and add a ePTFE spacer with water injection ports. 16. If your car was not driven hard or lots of short trips it has probably carbon buildup from DI and needs walnut blasting inside the intake. 17. EGR Blockoff plate and baffled oil catch can to prevent carbon buildup in future. 18. Make sure the tensioners are upgraded metal OEM ones. The early stock ones are plastic. 19. Divorce the intercooler setup from the radiator coolant and use separate tank and inter-chiller. This will allow the heat soak to not build up as fast. My intake air temps can get high here in FL. 180 degree+! stock normal IAT is around 147 degrees. Imagine getting this down to ambient. These things go for any XFR, F-Type, XJR, F-Pace, Range Rover 5.0L S/C variants.
Most of the issues in no. 9 can be caused by corrosion on the pins on the bcm by the drivers footwell kickboard. Takes 2 mins to remove the plastics and pull all the plugs, will always be the live carrying wires that corrode first thus making what every unit its supllying act duff or become sluggish as the amps won't be enough to run said unit correctly 😉 have fun
@@howardneil8164 I have had an Lexus LS400, a Jaguar XF SV8, and currently a Jaguar XJL. Happy with all of them. However, for pure driving pleasure, the Jaguar XF SV8 wins hands down.
Only issues was with the battery when I bought the car. A suffered a few odd random electrical faults. I had an battery testers so checked the five year old battery and while it had power to start the car no with no problem, it's CCA had dropped from 800 down to 545 and internal battery resistance was high . Threw in a new battery and no more issues. Longest trip was 1600 miles form Portugal to Lincoln, drove like a charm. Got any electrical problem, always start with the battery on these cars.
I've owned my 2009 xfs for 6 years now. Best car I've ever owned. 156000 miles and drives a dream. Never had any of the problems you mention. The secret is to make sure its serviced at a jaguar dealership every 12 months.
@@RichSnkrsLA yea, still have the xf. Best car I've ever owned. Would def buy another one.i had her remap,d last year. Now get,n great fuel economy. and loads more low down torque.ive owned many jags since the 70s and people keep tell,n me these aren't real jags. But these xf,s don't rot away like the old models.
I purchased a pre-owned 2012 XF Supercharged V8 Portfolio edition. I have had none of the problems he mentions in this video and now have almost 75k miles on it and it's 6 years old. Two years old when I bought it. My best recommendation is that when you purchase the car you purchase a warranty program. There are a lot of them out there. Never accept the 1st offer, the more times you say you need to think about it. They will add more options free of charge. I got the Diamond level for the cost of a basic level if I not said no a couple of times. Actually it is in the shop for the 1st time ever due to the water pump failing. The warranty is covering everything except my $100 deductible. Saving me apx. $1,200 which is about 1/2 of what I paid for the warranty on the 1st issue. If you can't afford the added warranty don't buy a car. Any car especially a Jaguar, Audi, BMW or Benz. These cars are very expressive to repair.
Yes, I've had 2 batteries drain down in 2 yrs on my 2011 xf. YOU MUST engage the security system to deactivate the cars electrical readiness and power down. And....I got a software update. Now my passenger side window roles up and down whenever it feels like it. And...the Bluetooth just refuses to work, even with the software update Other than that, the engine performance is superior. I can deal with a wayward window and using an aux cord until I upgrade to another new Jag😂
My 10 year old XF Sportbrake has had a passenger side window actuator replaced this year. Other than that, it's faultless. It's a great car for long journeys, effortless motorway cruising, and great fun around country roads.
tommychii both my XFR and XJL SC were bought used and the XFR had 30k miles at the time of purchase and currently has 117k miles on it. And the XJL had 23k and now has 55k miles on it
I have a 2011 XF Premium...Yes. The battery issue was an issue until I had a software update installed. Problem solved. Something to do with system sleep mode prior to enacting the alarm. Bluetooth does not work anymore. Software didn't fix that. Yes, window issue was also corrected with the electrical software system update. Otherwise, none of the other issues. I have a serious beast on the road.
I have XF now for three years, never had any isue with the car. Very satisfied with my decision and how the car behaves on the road. I can compare it with BMW 5 as my son owns it and I will definitely buy a JAG again, as it is much more fun to drive on curved roads we have in my county.
I wanted a Jaguar and listened to the comments about electrical issues and vividly rememmber my beautiful 7 series BMW which at 9 years old had to be scrapped as the electrical gremlins were so many and car was undriveable . This Jaguar model seems no different with problems lurking just ready to open your wallet . I still wanted a Jag and somebody advised me to go for a Series 3 V12 imported from Japan . So I found a 1992 Sovereign series 3 with just 20 k on the clock and virtualy brand new . I have had it 12 months and utterly reliable no issues and unlike the XF, which looks very similar to the old Ford Sierra , my series 3 has got the wow factor that turns head everywhere I go .
I love my Jaguar XF 08 edition. From when I bought it I have been seeing DPF full. Consult your handbook. it has been there for three years and I have ignored it. When ever I use the car for a long drive it clears. The car just loves to be driven. Whenever I attend the filling station, it takes longer to fill the tank because it trips about five times before I fill the tank.
You need to drive at 55 to 60 mph for over 20 minutes every few weeks . I never had the DPF light come on . I learnt so much by reading Jaguar owners forum online .
I've had 5 jags of various models over the years and all of them have suffered with electrical gremlins.. Its just a jag thing embrace them and whatever you do don't feed them after midnight
One of my family cars is a 2010 XF and although it has had the gear selector stick, that is the only major problem it has ever had, that is bought from new by my family and driven a huge 280,000 miles, with no other issue
@@AndrewMcleod7 yes it was but it happened at about 200k miles, so to be fair it wasn't exactly low mileage, and all repairs were carried out under recall.
Like a few of the comments, I had a few XFs as company cars and they were fantastic. If only I could still have one! I do think it is a case of looking after the car a bit, if you’re not prepared to service the car and give it a bit of care don’t be surprised if you have problems I think it was this model that came second in one of the JD Powers surveys.
It came first, not second I believe! I also drive an 09 XF and have never had a single problem, let alone any of those mentioned. If he thinks they're that bad why does he drive one? My next car will be a Jaguar too, first time in over 40 years' driving I will have bought the same brand twice in succession, that's how highly I rate my XF.
I've had my xf portfolio for 7 years, it's now 10 years old and been fantastic. The only niggle I have had is the rear passenger door sometimes dosent lock on the keyless system.
We have a 08 XF 75k miles v6 D - Nothing has really gone wrong. Electrical on the boot but was fixed easily and then an crack in exhaust which is general wear and tear.
I am the owner of jag xf Sportbrake 2.2d- 2014. I have it for almost 2 years, 300.000+ kilometres. So far I experienced: 1. Gear Switcher issue- after I drove 1100 km in one go (4 small 10-15 min breaks). I had arrived to my destination, the day after I had this issue. Had to turn on/off car for like 10 times when finally I could switch the gear to D. After that I have never experienced this issue, however, sometimes it has a delay when it comes to move up 2. Winter, engine works really weird and hard (maybe because of a low temp? I am not an expert) 3. Central lock of right rear doors broke And that’s it :). Still happy owner, but soon for sale. New baby on my radar!
window regulators can fail as the wires that move the window up and down rust and break, it's £500+ for Jag to do it but units can be bought on line for about £150 if you can do it yourself, it happen to a friends XF....but in 18 months has been the only issue
I've been working as a tech at a jaguar main dealer for 4 years now working on these day in and day out. Literally only see one or two of these issues.

@@eddiekillerby3679 hi Eddie. I would definitely recommend getting one. if it's well maintained with a decent mileage you shouldn't have to worry. I personally would try and get a 2014 or 2015 model as they have had most of the problems ironed out and are more refined.

Picking my first XF up next week. 2011 with 135.000 on clock. But not too worried. Just looking forward to it. I think this video is very informative. But basically an advert for the tech at the end.
I had a "see-saw valve" problem (it equalises the two turbos). I had false alarms from the tyre pressure sensors for a while. Overall a reliable car, much better than a BMW I once owned.
People’s passion for cars is amazing. No matter how poor they make us. No matter how many arguments they cause. No matter how much money they loose by depreciation and expensive repair costs people want more and more. It’s a Mad world lol. My dad has one of these cars and he has hardly driven it. I think the next service is gona cost him near £1000.
My dad owns a 2014 Jag XF S portfolio since new, no problems whatsoever. The only thing that bugs me is the centre pannel where the climate buttons are creaking when pressing buttons. So annoying, does anyone know how to fix this?
I have driven my XF for three years and 39000 miles without any of these issues and have not heard any other Jaguar Driver at any Jaguar Driver Club meetings complaining of them either.
Keep the S-Type, it is still a special car, the XF feels like any other car on the road. But take good care of rustproofing it, our S-Type succumbed to the rust.
Only issue I have on my 2014 XF is shortly after purchase at 13k miles, the motor for one of the climate vents stopped working. I manually move it up and down to avoid the cost of the repair.
I had a 2014 XF, Head Gasket Failure and renewal at 47000 miles which I thought was a bit early, however, other than that no problems. I think this guy wants to promote his I gadget
I have the MY11 XF and have not observed any of those nine issues to date. I steer clear of the dealers and have the car regularly serviced by a trusted mechanic who actually does the service book servicing to the letter. One dealer was caught out when they assumed I was a typical non-mechanically minded person and they did not perform any of the servicing that they charged me for and then indicated that the vehicle did not have "auto-sensing wipers" when it is clearly listed on the factory build sheet. Hence not using that dealer again.
Got a 2014 XF - the aircon vents that move up and down, the driver's side (right one) doesn't move by itself. If I push it up while the others are going up/down, then it might also go up/down a bit. Apparently it costs the equivalent of £600 to fix here in South Africa (with Jaguar), it's the motor.
Not had any issues with my 2012 XF-S 3.0 V6 diesel, most reliable car I've had in 23 years of driving. Service it properly and it will reward you well.
Still own a 2011 premium luxury XF. Haven't experienced any of these problems apart from a slow computer system driving the touch screen. My main issue is the black rubbery control buttons in the centre console and the steering wheel are degrading and getting sticky. Really annoying.
2:06, WTF is drivers fluid? Seriously. Is that part of the blinker fluid system? Apparently it's a serious problem however. Never had BT issues and not a known issue.
Currently own a 2014 XF and have previously owned a 2009 XF. Both needed their alternator replacing and both times it was after the plastic (5-way) water housing under the throttlebody split so I'm guessing it was related (water damage?). 2009 one had water ingress in the rear fuse box, which sent the hazard lights wild, and current one had the intercooler replaced due to the outlet (again, made of plastic) splitting. More to do with cheap plastic parts IMHO than actual faults.
I had a '09 and overall the things that went wrong was a nightmare. I now after years with BMWs now quite like the idea of a facelift model. What I do remember is the shift selector staying in the down position and hazard light having a mind of their own and coming on sporadically refusing to go off. Did replace the water pump and the problem went. As for the rest view camera the wires in the boot are in a loom that's scrunched up in a rubber covering and are so weak that have a habit of snapping.
I have a 012 xf portfolio . I replaced the coolant tube in back of the motor, intake tube broke at throttle body , starter button replaced . Love the car wish they used better plastic for parts. I own a str also the finishes aren't even close . Great cars I've also replaced the direct pressure sensing valve on a/c twice . My a/c guy said it's not a great design .

@@denisehoward4293 I don't know about where you live but main dealer prices are often quite high. If you're not buying a new car a good independent garage usually charges much less. As my jaguar is nearly 21 years old I get very cheap classic insurance and I service the car myself.
My fookin auxiliary belt is fooked ..where is the auxiliary belt? In the middle of the fookin engine n if you've ever seen one of these engines you would understand why I'm saying fooookin alot

it's down to respect, care and maintenance modern Jaguars are brilliant, having said that I have owned much olderJaguars and they never let me down, get yourself a 5-litre XFR V8 supercharged change the exhaust and get it mapped to 650 bhp and nearly a 1000 nm torque you won't worry about a few creaks you will be more worried about staying on the flipping road.
Buy it, it is a great car with great looks. In 5 years no special problems.
Good for you not letting a group of uneducated idiots talk you out of buying a great car. I'm on my 2nd Jaguar, the 1st an 03 S Type. Drove it for 13 years and 157k well loved miles.

& XF premium or port
I have owned an XFR for over 10 years. Fantastic car. All of these recommendations are good. There are a bunches of items you missed. starting with:
Have 2013. 75k miles, none of these issues other than a tail light.
How is it doing now? I want one
I had the tail lights replaced after warranty for free by Jaguar
I’ve got a 2014 xf, the S, bought new, not experienced any of these issues thankfully, plan to drive it forever
Jag drastically improved their reliability! 👌🏽. Might be considering a jaguar when I need my next car.
Hahaha im pointing and laughing at you
don't buy new.
No they haven't? All luxury cars break. If you want something reliable, buy a Lexus.
@@kadleli683 replaced my XF with a Lexus . Not one single problem
@@howardneil8164 I have had an Lexus LS400, a Jaguar XF SV8, and currently a Jaguar XJL. Happy with all of them. However, for pure driving pleasure, the Jaguar XF SV8 wins hands down.
More likely is that a properly maintained jag will be like mine, nothing has gone wrong or broken in 11 years I've owned it. It has been a superb car
Owned a 2009 and a 2013 XF and never had any sort of problem with either. That's after 60,000 miles of driving.
report back after 160k, please
Still waiting
How is it doing now?
What's the update?
@@mickadatwist1620 who keeps a car after 100,000 ! .?
I've owned my 2009 xfs for 6 years now. Best car I've ever owned. 156000 miles and drives a dream. Never had any of the problems you mention. The secret is to make sure its serviced at a jaguar dealership every 12 months.
hows it holding up now ? do you still have it ?
@@RichSnkrsLA yea, still have the xf. Best car I've ever owned. Would def buy another one.i had her remap,d last year. Now get,n great fuel economy. and loads more low down torque.ive owned many jags since the 70s and people keep tell,n me these aren't real jags. But these xf,s don't rot away like the old models.
i have the jaguar xf 2.2d since 8 year i never had problem. thanks jaguar
I’m in the process of buying an XF right now, and I sort of hope it has this window “feature”. It sounds kind of exciting! 🤣🤣
My 10 year old XF Sportbrake has had a passenger side window actuator replaced this year. Other than that, it's faultless. It's a great car for long journeys, effortless motorway cruising, and great fun around country roads.
I've had my XFR for a few years now with no issues, knock on wood!
My jag 2012 xf 2.2d is 350000km on clock with no any issue still performing well more than new cars!!!!love it
Hmm..Ive had my xf a year now and have had NO ISSUES at all ...just saying
smyffmawzz a WHOLE year huh? You don't say
I’ve had a XFR for 6 and no issues either. Plus a XJL SC for 3 and no issues with that either
Did y'all buy them brand new off the lot or used and how many miles did they have on them at the time of purchase
tommychii both my XFR and XJL SC were bought used and the XFR had 30k miles at the time of purchase and currently has 117k miles on it. And the XJL had 23k and now has 55k miles on it
They both were bought from the dealer itself
One of my family cars is a 2010 XF and although it has had the gear selector stick, that is the only major problem it has ever had, that is bought from new by my family and driven a huge 280,000 miles, with no other issue
pretty major problem to have
One of my cars is a 2007 Mazda6. In fact it is my only car
@@AndrewMcleod7 yes it was but it happened at about 200k miles, so to be fair it wasn't exactly low mileage, and all repairs were carried out under recall.
I have a 2010 XF with just over 55000 miles, never had any problems. Scratch that, I had to replace the passenger side low beam headlight connector.
Like a few of the comments, I had a few XFs as company cars and they were fantastic. If only I could still have one!
I do think it is a case of looking after the car a bit, if you’re not prepared to service the car and give it a bit of care don’t be surprised if you have problems
I think it was this model that came second in one of the JD Powers surveys.
I have XF since 2012 bought it B new and now done 140,000kms No problems at all 😎
My Jaguar XF drives good .. minor problems like any other car .. maintenance is not bad ... drives way better then my BMW 750 Li
So far I experienced:
1. Gear Switcher issue- after I drove 1100 km in one go (4 small 10-15 min breaks). I had arrived to my destination, the day after I had this issue. Had to turn on/off car for like 10 times when finally I could switch the gear to D. After that I have never experienced this issue, however, sometimes it has a delay when it comes to move up
2. Winter, engine works really weird and hard (maybe because of a low temp? I am not an expert)
3. Central lock of right rear doors broke
And that’s it :). Still happy owner, but soon for sale. New baby on my radar!
I just love my 2017 Jag,Any driving moment is pure joy
Is it still holding up?
@@gerardjones3569 Not only is it holding up
It is going stronger my friend
window regulators can fail as the wires that move the window up and down rust and break, it's £500+ for Jag to do it but units can be bought on line for about £150 if you can do it yourself,
it happen to a friends XF....but in 18 months has been the only issue
This bloke needs to get a job. Road sweeper might be good. He could do a video of the performance of his broom.
I had my Jaguar XF for 6 years and had 0 issues, serviced every year. Best car I've owned
I've been working as a tech at a jaguar main dealer for 4 years now working on these day in and day out. Literally only see one or two of these issues.
Brett, I know this is an old comment but I'm looking at getting a 2011 3.0v6 xfs portfolio. Would you reccomend as someone who works with them. Are they generally reliable? Cheers
@@eddiekillerby3679 hi Eddie. I would definitely recommend getting one. if it's well maintained with a decent mileage you shouldn't have to worry. I personally would try and get a 2014 or 2015 model as they have had most of the problems ironed out and are more refined.
@@bretzi111 hi mate, thanks for the quick reply. I'm wanting to buy outright so the budget is only around 7k so unfortunately I won't be able to get one that new as I'm set on the 3.0 diesel. The one I'm looking at is at 125k with full main dealer history and the cambelt has recently been done. It's hard finding one in the right colour combination, ie seats, trim colour and the colour of car. They look quality motors though. I cant believe how much car you're getting for your money. Do they need gearbox services?
@@eddiekillerby3679 ahh fair enough go for it. As for the gearbox oil it's supposed to be lifetime so technically it shouldn't need replacing but I would highly recommend changing the oil at that mileage and also the gearbox sump as the filter is in the sump
@@bretzi111 thanks very much for your input mate, nice to hear from someone with actual experience with these cars. Have a good one mate!
Jakub Wójcik Don't buy JLR. I've so many problems with the car and some can never be fixed.
It can be fixed trust me
Try silicone spray.
I have driven my XF for three years and 39000 miles without any of these issues and have not heard any other Jaguar Driver at any Jaguar Driver Club meetings complaining of them either.
Happy owner of an aging S-Type looking forward to getting an XF at some point.
Keep the S-Type, it is still a special car, the XF feels like any other car on the road. But take good care of rustproofing it, our S-Type succumbed to the rust.
@Piper Warrior Sim Project mine never blocked . Read the manual . Drive at 55 to 60 mph for at least 20 minutes every month . Never have a problem
Stuart Williams how much was it to repair?
Reginald Moton I only paid for the parts, did the work myself
I have the MY11 XF and have not observed any of those nine issues to date. I steer clear of the dealers and have the car regularly serviced by a trusted mechanic who actually does the service book servicing to the letter. One dealer was caught out when they assumed I was a typical non-mechanically minded person and they did not perform any of the servicing that they charged me for and then indicated that the vehicle did not have "auto-sensing wipers" when it is clearly listed on the factory build sheet. Hence not using that dealer again.
None of these issues in my XF - 5 years and counting - It's an awesome car
Famous last words 🤣
I've had two issues in three years (2019-2022) with my 2014 XF:
- EGR valve needed cleaning
- Two rear sensors had to be replaced
Electrical issues on your Jag?,put a decent new battery on it,simples....
So a new battery every year?
lol
Got a 2014 XF - the aircon vents that move up and down, the driver's side (right one) doesn't move by itself. If I push it up while the others are going up/down, then it might also go up/down a bit. Apparently it costs the equivalent of £600 to fix here in South Africa (with Jaguar), it's the motor.
Never had any issues with this car. Have it for 9 years now.
How many miles now
What year how many miles
Not had any issues with my 2012 XF-S 3.0 V6 diesel, most reliable car I've had in 23 years of driving. Service it properly and it will reward you well.
#10 The fuel door. I've experienced a few of these issues, but still love my car.
Had my xf 2 years v6 2.7 twin turbo diesel no such issues.
I've owned a Jag for twenty years and it's never gave any troubles

it's down to respect, care and maintenance modern Jaguars are brilliant, having said that I have owned much olderJaguars and they never let me down, get yourself a 5-litre XFR V8 supercharged change the exhaust and get it mapped to 650 bhp and nearly a 1000 nm torque you won't worry about a few creaks you will be more worried about staying on the flipping road. Do you realise a bog standard XFR V8 supercharged will do 165mph in a quarter mile, and exceed 175 mph before the limiter cuts in and jump nearly 4 foot in the air at Millbrook? I am not bothered about a few bits dropping off Jaguars are literally animals.
