What is your point? Umm. Vandalism is a crime. They do arrest people who vandalize businesses, churches and government buildings too. A couple days ago in NY they arrested a black guy who was vandalizing a couple synagogues. Obvious hate crime there.

Two things are happening: First, the usual police presence in major metro areas (San Fran, Los Angeles, Miami, NYC, Baltimore) has ceased. Law Enforcement is standing down for fear of excessive force accusations. Second, many mentally ill people have slipped through the cracks during COVID. They're not getting the regular care they used to get since the pandemic hit. Little to no police presence and the mentally ill walking around without help is a recipe for disaster, and that's what's happening.

Defacing murals, street art and even graffiti happens all day, everyday in San Francisco; it's called "bombing" and while it's despicable, this can't be labeled a "hate crime". If this work was commissioned and or funded by someone, the artist should have also allowed for clear coating it. Other local artists such as Jet Martínez routinely do it and his murals have been defacement-free for years. Where was the KPIX's high dudgeon when Carmen Banana was bombed in the Lower Haight? That piece has been there since 1979; the owner of the corner business paid for the restoration from his own pocket. "not beatnik enough" is not a hate crime.

As a graffiti artist, this dosent look like hate on the outside. The dude looks like the type of guy who does art and some people cover others painting in jealousy etc. His writing skills were smooth too so I assume he's done this type of artwork before.
If we called everyone who painted or wrote over someone else's art a hate crime, this would've been a thing since the 80s.
