    We took a little trip over to VT. The Elf did wonderful and it was a really nice trip. BUT I can not wait to finish building out the interior! I have hit a few bumps the last few months and I'll need to focus on saving up some money over the winter. So I might not get this thing out as much as I did last year. If I get it out this winter trust me you'll see it but if not I'll be back in the spring to finish this puppy up!

    I think I've watched all the isuzu videos about 20 times 😅 I'm looking forward to seeing more of it soon! I'm still hunting for one, although i may have to compromise and get an automatic as manuals are just too few and far between, found a perfect one but the dealer didn't want to sell to an importer 😢. Looking to find an outback express, as the interior is just nostalgia for me, going to caravans in the 90s as a kid

      Thanks! I'm working on another Ranger camper video now but this spring and summer elf will be back! I definitely would get the Outback Express if I could do it again much better fiberglass camper shell then my terra 500. If I were you I would hold out for a manual I hear these are meant to run on high revs and the manual will make that better and you will seriously need that control if you live in an area with steep hills. But I know how hard it is watching the auctions and waiting haha.

      @@bobbyswampfox yeah manuals are hard to come by, but the automatics do have overdrive and if they are diesel, they will have higher torque for hills, i live in the uk countryside and there are some steep hills but surely the low gear option would be ok. would you mind telling me what auctions you used? im currently looking at ts-export and use the one japan car direct offer but none at all on there. I do have my eye on Toyota camroads and nissan atlas too.

    Just bought an Elf Camper from Japan and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I know they are pretty compact and easy to park anywhere but pulling a TOAD would be awesome. Have you ever seen or heard of anyone pulling a vehicle? I have a 1997 Jimny 😊

      Nice congratulations! What model did you end up getting? Honestly the biggest thing I've seen one pull (online) was a jetski haha. It is underpowered for its size so I don't think it would be able to pull much more than itself but would be interesting to see. Mine came with a ball hitch so they must have pulled something with it

      @@bobbyswampfox Thanks so much!!!I'm assuming the coach builder is Casty and it's on the Elf 150 4wd 5MT chassis.I was just curious about the towing. I'm actually about to pull the trigger on a Toyota Hiace camper for my 18 year old to drive on family camping trips and I guess that could be used as a pretty decent "daily" while on vacation. We've gotten bitten by the JDM bug. You're videos have been invaluable so I know what to look for and was able to have a pre-auctuon inspection done so hopefully all is well. Keep up the great vids!!!!

      @@krsjames1 that's great to hear! Sounds like a good plan. I want to import a Townace van as a daily driver if I save up enough for it. If you want to email me bobbyswampfox@gmail.com I can loop you into our owner group thread. More videos will come this summer I took a winter break and now we are trying to but a house this spring so this summer I'll start working and using it again. Can't wait!

    I've worked on Isuzu mid-sized engines for many years, and these engines are engineered to a very high specification. The main cause for 'oil consumption (not the only reason) is, late-oil-changes, these engines need oil-changed every 5000 kilometres.. Also, another contributing factor is the 4JG2, whilst a good engine, is under-powered for Motor-Home application (weight), the weight and head-wind-drag will cause the engine to LUG down, and Isuzu mid-sized engines do-not like lugging. Engine lugging will cause premature engine wear, oil-consumption and increased fuel-consumption.
    Mid sized Isuzu diesels (the 4J series, such as 4JB1, 4JG1 and G2) are engineered to REV, unlike other diesel engines, therefore, if and.or when the engine starts to struggle/lug? change down a gear and keep-the revs up, your engine is made to run on the red-rev-line. Great engines, i' got a older 1984 Isuzu Elf Campervan, with the older 4JB1 (2.8 non-turbo), non-road-worthy, we use as guest-room for visitors. The old engine starts on 1st crank, after sitting for a year. You made a good choice, enjoy the Isuzu experience. (New Zealand)

      This is the most informative comment I've gotten yet! This is why I started the channel to learn more and find others. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. This makes me feel better about my situation and will definitely change my driving habits. I have some work to do on it before the winter really sets in. Replacing the cooling fan (original one is showing wear and stress cracks) and a new pulley. I am going to shoot a video of it with an update on the camper remodel too. Your comment gives me some motivation. I'm so happy I ended up with the Isuzu Elf camper, I was in the market for a few different campers - Toyota Townace or Hiace and a Mitsubishi Delica were on my list but I won the Elf at auction first and feel like it is a more robust vehicle than those other ones.

      @@conartist_nz thank you again for all the great advice! I'd love to hear more about yours and ask some questions if your at all interested in exchanging emails (bobbyswampfox@gmail.com) no pressure tho. I did get out there to test for blowby today. I didn't feel much confession coming from the oil fill just little puffs and no oil spitting up on my hand. But I did take out the dipstick and oil was spitting out of the tube, I'm not sure how normal that is. I do have a new valve for the breather hose on top of the crankcase to see if that helps vent better. I do want to save up and have a real desiel mechanic do a compression test and just an over all check up. But it runs just fine I'm just always worried 😄

    Love your editing skills. You keep things moving and to the point. I think you are brave going to those remote places in the winter. That waterfall night lighting is spectacular! Took mine for it's COF test last week (certificate of fitness) which was a bit nail biting. I was lined up amongst a que of massive trucks-eeek! Passed with flying colours though , not bad for a 27yr old girl!! p.s -cruising at 100kph!! mine struggles at 90??

      Hi mate, shouldn't struggle at 90kmh?, something's either not right, or too much weight. These engines should-be able to maintain 100kph on flat open roads easy.

      @@conartist_nz it's 4 wheel drive so pretty heavy.
      The engine runs sweet, I'm a retired mechanic which helps. It's only got 73,000 KMs on the clock and having crawled all over and under it, it looks genuine. It will do 100 on the flat but I hate thrashing engines.

    Have you had to add coolant or check coolant level? I’ve been looking for the coolant reservoir and I think I found it behind the front right tire but It looks like to get access to it I need to remove the wheel well panel. I don’t see anywhere else to get access to it or to check the level.

    • @bobbyswampfox
      @bobbyswampfox  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey yeah I have a video on fixing a coolant leak. That is the reservoir you're looking at to access it there should be a door behind the drivers seat inside the camper if you have a terra 500 it is under the bench where you have access to your starter battery. It is still a pain to fill tho I bought a funnel with a corrugated tube to reach into it

    • @patdchappelle
      @patdchappelle 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bobbyswampfox ah interesting. I have the out-back express and the bench with access to the starter battery is on the left side of the vehicle behind the passenger seat. The coolant reservoir is on the right hand side of the vehicle so the access must be different on this model.
