  • I finally tracked down what I needed to fix my speedometer! Took awhile to find the proper speedo gear. I also got around to sealing up my useless fridge vents before the winter hits. Stay tuned for the next trip to Vermont. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video, will file away the 16 tooth information, in case I ever need one. You are getting good at the fibreglassing. look forward to the next trip.

Thanks! In the middle of the fiberglass job I was nervous it was going to be a disaster. I just got back from Vermont in it, so we'll see if I can patch together a video

I missed this one somehow. These videos you make are SO USEFUL, brother!

Ohh awesome thanks! Glad to hear it. I'm just starting to look into a few projects with the elf now. I just closed on a house and have much better place to work now and I have to figure out why I'm consuming so much oil!

Great job on the speedometer. Hey Bobby it would be amazing to see a video of you talking about the importing process for those of us who would like to import and can’t afford 40k for one already here. Loving your videos

Hey Nora thanks for watching and the suggestion! I'll try and do that! I don't have much mechanic or build stuff for my next video idea just a trip over to VT so maybe I'll add some of that info to it.
But I used japancardirect.com to import mine with no clue what I was doing and they made it very easy! You can register right on the site and they'll reach out. I couldn't afford a bid for a few months after I registered and they answered my questions and said let us know when you're ready. So there is no pressure from them. And you can start searching the auctions to get an idea what you want and how much it will be

Very cool! How has the diesel behaved in the Northeast? Especially in the winters? Also, do you do all of the regular maintenance?

Hey, thanks! It does really well up here in the winter. This one time we went camping 2 winter ago and it got down to -21°F, I had to really let the glow plugs work and keep it cranked to get it to fire up. I do all the regular stuff like oil changes coolant leak fix and flush I did my power steering leak fix and flush changed all the belts. Whenever something happens I do my best to figure it out and I keep up on it.

Hey Bobby, congrats on the speedo fix! Why you no need vents for the fridge now? I took out my 3 way fridge, it worked but was just too small. I put a vertical A/C unit in it's place so I still need the vents. I am using a large fridge/freezer in the back, love it. I also had to do some fiberglas work recently as I backed into a tree and cracked a couple spots around the tail light. Cold here now took a few days to harden. I hate fiberglas work but it sure is nice to get it done.
I replaced a couple of my top marker lights but they don't work. Any idea where they might be fused or where the wires are joined? My Isuzu is 2006 but might be wired similarly.

Hey Jim, thanks! It does feel good to have it fixed.
My 3 way wasn't working so I replaced it with a dometic 12v one so I no longer needed the ventilation for the propane. Plus the vent covers were falling off and let cold air in and water. I wanted them sealed up before winter set in here. Temperatures are dropping here too so I ran into slow drying epoxy too!
As far as my clearance lights those were installed during my first inspection (the place didn't tell me I needed them and put them in for $900! If I'd have known it needed them to pass I would have tried to install them myself) I think they spliced into the head lights for the front lights and spliced into the license plate light for the rear one.
Good luck with them and glad you were able to fiberglass up yours too

@@bobbyswampfox You need to double the hardner when it's cold! I have a few more small patches to do so will try that. I was worried my first batch would never dry. Looks good now. Not sure why they don't put some kind of real bumper on these things. I would love to install a couple sensors on the rear corners. My backup camera is not so useful might need to replace that. Also, need a better backup light, oh well lots of little projects keep me busy. Good score with a 12V fridge, mine runs on 12/24 so I have installed some 24V sockets, one for the fridge, one over kitchen counter for my oven, and the one outside in the end of the old fridge grill. These grills plastic is thin and easily breaks. I will leave my lower grill for the A/C unit, but the stop one I am building a little sealed box for the solar controller. Also, I found a few rusty areas on the subframe rails, I will do some rust conversion spray and brush and paint the whole bottom this winter. Couple areas I might fiberglas over just to keep moisture out.

@@bobbyswampfox Next few fiberglas batches I squirted in lots of hardner and it is getting hard in like half an hour. Temp is like 40-45 F. I gotta apply some bondo now though and will use lots of hardener there too. Pity I can't pull it into my garage :)

Nice job man. How'd you even find that random speedo part and where did you order it from?

Thanks! So the gear came from jp-carparts.com but they did send the wrong one the first time. The bushing and electric component I found online. It was the same as on other isuzus

Hey Bobby, what engine do you have in your ELF? I see so many different size engines from 2.7L to 4.2L.

Awesome job. Is it possible to fully change the speedo to MPH? Asking for a friend.

I planned on just labeling mph over the kl on the dash cluster but just got use to it as is. I honestly use my rpm as a tell of how fast I'm going more then the speedometer
