- I imported an Isuzu Elf camper, this is a collection of renovation clips I have from over this past summer. Check out my other videos of me getting it ready to pass inspection. If you have one of these reach out and lets talk parts!
Great info in this video. I look forward to seeing more of your project.
More to come but saving money now to finish it next spring
I have the same one and LOVE her!!
Oh awesome! Has she given you any problems??
Wow that terrified me as well, I did not expect that ! Thankfully my interior is still good. I was interested to see where the seat belt mountings in the rear were, as mine have been removed. Now I have an idea what's hidden from view.
Thanks for watching! Are you planning on putting the seat belts back in? I haven't put mine back yet, not sure if I will. But they bolt right through the rails under the floor, if you get under the camper you'll be able to see the holes where they were bolted in.
@@bobbyswampfox Yes would like to put them back, but its only registered to carry three people. Not that easy or cheap to get that officially changed here in Western Australia. I will also be checking the water heater, and every thing else for leaks. I could not achieve what you did with the interior, well done. Getting ready to do my cam belt & water pump while I have access, that is a big enough job for me to tackle.
@@landroverdisco4404 Thanks, I really owe it to my brother for the progress we got done. I still need to hook up my water and propane systems. Good luck on the belt and pump job.
Nicely done video, looking forward to seeing more of them👍 greetings from Australia.
Thank you! Most of the activity on my videos is from Australia I really need to take a trip out there haha. I wish people in the states were as enthusiastic about the Elf. And I'm editing a video of a webasto heater install right now. Thanks for watching!
This was another great video! I liked how you showed the Rancho install as well as all the othe rstuff. I know we talked about the front shocks and I hope i can find the part numbers because mine are totally shot to hell.
Cool to see your family all in!
Thanks! Yeah I owe most of those part numbers to you! My front ones seem good enough for right now but I'll give a search for them too I haven't tried looking them up yet. My brother's helped a good bit too so they deserved a shot out haha
Love it man! super cool what you're doin!
Thanks!

This elf truck super reliable
Original shock absorbers more better
Oh really? I was thinking these would be somewhat the same, I still have the original ones so I can go back if these don't hold up
It does feel bouncy, do you think upgrading the leaf springs would be a good idea?
@@bobbyswampfox Mine feels bouncy at the front, but my shock absorbers are not adjustable like yours. I think because its a torsion bar front end and not a friction damped (to some extent) leaf spring, that its hard to get shock absorbers with enough damping for the front. The 4 x 4 Isuzu N series trucks like NLS are all leaf spring front. I cannot find a listing for Rancho shock absorbers for the n series light trucks. Perhaps yours are for a Trooper and so not damping enough, for the heavier Elf.

haha thats instabranman
Watched your video and bought one of these. I was not sure if 3100 NA motor would go well on the freeway, so found 4300 cc elf 250 version, with 2WD Auto setup. My interior looks dated and depressing, so some woodwork is coming my way soon too. Thanks for the great video!
Nice! How's the 250 do on highway? The 150 does ok, hills it shows down but does 60 just fine otherwise
@@bobbyswampfox I don't know about camper (still on the boat) but my Elf250 miniature tow truck with 4.6na diesel 6sp. does great, it will do 70mph at 2300rpm. So I am hoping that the box on camper is lighter than the heavy towing build up on the tow truck and that 250 camper will be cool with 70 mph.
Check the life expectancy on the autos, but if it was Japanese bought they maintained everything regularly by law
Terra 500
shame you had to gut it, but it is looking good - I might have relocated the kitchen along the wall to get more counter, or alternatively put in a large office desk? I can't wait to see how it turns out.
I did pick up more counter space by getting rid of the massive propane heater that had a chimney and box that housed an old TV I like the layout otherwise. So far I only wish I put a larger fridge in. It is almost there! Can't wait haha
Hey! I’m looking at free of these jdm campers tomorrow… how were you able to determine the water damage? Did you have to take out the carpet or were there other clear indicators I can look for?
Glad to see you’ve posted so many repair and build videos - I’m sure I will be back to reference more of them!
Nice thank you! So mine I picked up at the port and bought sight unseen so didn't know what to expect but when I first stepped in there was a noticeable soft spot in the floor and I knew it needed repaired it was just outside the shower so made sense but after gutting it in found 2 other leaks. What other ones are you looking at? Other Isuzu Elfs? If so the Outback Express is the best version in my opinion mine is the terra 500. The Outback has a 1 piece fiberglass shell the terra 500 has a few joints with a wooden floor and fiberglass sheet under so it's a weak spot but still good enough haha.
…just rewatching your video and heard where your other two leaks were… dang!
Well done, what a great end result. I've just bought a 94 one with low Km's (Supposedly) but above the rear wheels the floor is pretty flaky since it's the receiver of water off the road. How thick was the flooring because I'm hoping to just peel off a layer and treat the wood beneath?
Thanks! It wasn't very think honestly 3/4 of an inch I think massing a bit more. Where are you based? Welcome to the club!
Nice video! Did this thing have any insulation in the floor/walls/roof when you ripped it apart?
Thanks! Honestly it really didn't, some foam and carpet on the ceiling. But just plywood and fiberglass on the floor. And wood and wallpaper walls right on the fiberglass
How did you find all of the parts for the engine? Do you have a list of compatible parts from USA market?
Hey! Shoot me an email at bobbyswampfox@gmail.com I do have a list not all can be found in the US but I've imported the ones that can't be
What state do you live? I bought a Nissan Altas camper from Japan and after driving it from San Francisco to Phoenix, buying new tires and ordering air filter, oil filter and fuel filter from Japan I find out I can't even register it here in Phoenix because they won't emission test it.
Ahh that sucks! I know it's hard to register in California but didn't know Phoenix was strict too. I live in Maine
How is the camper holding up?
Pretty good! Always something to do and haven't finished it yet but running good and using it!
Hi, I have the same truck with floor problem and some cabinets shot, nice winter project, do you have the air filter part number and contact to order one? Thanks
Hey, yes I do #8-97184601-0. I ordered it from JP-Carparts.com they are quick and accurate I got mine in the States in a week. Its the Isuzu one too with the replacement rubber plug for the cover. Are you in the States? I'd love to exchange more part numbers if you have any or any other info on these things haha they can be tricky sometimes. Feel free to email me Bobbyswampfox@gmail.com
@@bobbyswampfox
Thanks for your reply, it looks like is the best option to order parts from Japan,
@@JoseMoreno-zu7bv yeah for some things. The air filter I couldn't find anywhere but there but I got the fuel and oil filters locally
did your van have any insulation when you pulled away the furniture, or was it just bare fibreglass
Yeah just the fiberglass I was surprised about that
@@bobbyswampfox yeah its really bizarre, i assume they arent meant for winter use then? im looking to import one also, perhaps the newer models come with insulation for all year use?
@@wc3101 mine still stays warm I've camped in very cold winter days only being half insulated with a webasto heater and stays toasty.
@@bobbyswampfox ok thats great to know! yeah its my biggest fear as i snowboard and expect to be going into real cold conditions :) i look forward to new isuzu videos
@@wc3101 more to come! I might try and get one out with little updates before the winter comes
Dang, Bobby, nice work but I don't want to fall into this work. Any way to buy one without all the problems you ran into?
Yeah you can. I didn't have time to have a full inspection (the service I used offers a 3rd party inspection) before the auction was up, I just pulled the trigger. I think a lot of people come home with something better. Mine mechanically was sound just shower and one window leaked bad. But if you're importing might be hard to know for sure exactly the condition. But if you take your time you can find something pretty good I bet. All and all I'm very happy with mine and glad I gutted it. It's nice to have a new water system and know what's what back there. I've learned a ton along the way. But there is a few import lots that have a few for sale right now that might be your best bet if you want one ready to roll. Thanks for watching!
@@bobbyswampfox thank you!
