  • It was time for an oil change along with new filters. With a few other things. As far as the air filter mine is a year old and looks good still. But the air filter is the only one I can not find in the States, I imported the last one. So if anyone out there knows of one let me know!
    Finishing the bathroom and some electrical updates in the next one I hope!
    I really need a mic for my camera and a Go-pro! Stick with me as I try and build up my equipment but it's hard to spend money on anything else but the Elf haha.

    I tried everything to get my diesel heater working, cleaned it out real good, but finally had to order a new pump, which has not come yet but hopefully gets the heat going when I need it. I am hoping to get a trailer hitch installed with a bike rack, nice that yours has a hitch already, cheers.

      Yeah I was happy mine has the hitch too I really really need to switch the ball hitch to a receiver hitch so I can get a bike rack too. Before the camper I spent all my money on bikes haha

    lol your little camper is so adorable. That turning radius is amazing! I wish our truck could turn like that... But then again, no. Our swing would be too much lol

      Haha yeah they design them in japan to make super tight turns and being cab over it makes leaving a tight parking spot so easy haha.

    Hi Bobby, Jim here in Japan. I got my Isuzu camper, it is in the shop now getting the A/C fixed. Mine was blowing fuses because the compressor was shot :) I am hoping to do some trips soon and get a webpage up showing the rig. You can just blow out the air filter I am sure and get another year from it. Have fun tripping in the rig!

      Hey Jim, glad you got yours! I was looking into new compressors too I was going to order one but so far it's working for so I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope it somehow fixed itself. Cool! Let me know when I can find the web page!

    I appreciate your videos- they contain a wealth of information. I just imported an Elf and it's great. Could you elaborate on the parts you purchased for the exhaust pipe extension? Mine is also missing and I'm sensing diesel fumes in the cab.

      @@JeffSmith-dp5um I can't remember exactly the size I got but they should have extensions at an auto parts store you'll just need the outer diameter of your tailpipe and it slides right over and you clamp it on

      @@bobbyswampfox thanks man. I took it in to the shop for mechanical inspection/oil change and the tech happened to have an extension that fit perfectly- tack welded it on. Looks great. Additionally, the oil filter that I bought from a diesel parts website (the mechanic asked me to chase one down for the oil change so he wouldn't have to waste time doing so) for the 4JG2 engine didn't fit, and neither did the replacement one that the mechanic found; However, in your vid you listed the Napa part # for the oil filter so we ordered one and it fit like a glove. Thanks again!

    • @bobbyswampfox
      @bobbyswampfox  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So on flats I can go around 62mph but I try and keep it at 55-60. I'm in the steep hills in Vermont at the moment and some of these grades I'm going 20mph 😄

    Hi , good to see useful info on these lovely little trucks! I've recently bought a 94 model with the 3.1 Turbo diesel which is very thirsty. Do you have any idea about the fuel consumption of yours please? Mine is 4 wheel drive which doesn't help . Lovin' it though:) Regards from NZ.

      Nice! An Elf turbo? That's awesome. Last time I checked I got 17 mpg but I haven't had a working speedometer/odometer since the summer but fixed it now (will be the next video) mines 4wd too but mostly run it 2wd but still thirsty haha mostly I think cause I'm petal to the metal trying to keep up with traffic on US highways

      @@bobbyswampfox Thanks Bobby. I reckon that's about what mine's returning. Several years ago when I lived in Scotland, I converted an old Mitsubishi Pajero to run on used vegetable oil. I had 3 years of trouble free use before having to sadly sell it to emigrate. If only I had that free supply here then I do it to this😁😁

    I have another question. Have you had any luck finding a new official 4JG2 engine intake air filter for your Elf? Mine was completely plugged when it arrived- drove super sluggish and low power up hills- sketchy to drive, like, what have I done?? Couldn't find one in the US, only in Malaysia, the Philippines, New Zealand, Japan, etc. I managed to improvise a fix for mine by snipping off the base flange plate and buying a Napa cylindrical element filter with the same specs- I had to trim and augment it a bit but it works/fits perfectly in the canister housing. After installing the new one I took it on a test drive and it's like an entirely different vehicle- restored power and acceleration- still not fast, but not last. My mechanic said that my fix should hold up- he has no problems with it, but mentioned that an official one would bring a bit of peace of mind.

    Hey Bobby - great stuff. I’m the proud owner of a ‘96 Elf and can’t get the water system figured out. Two tanks? Neither pump turns on when I flip the pump switch on, but light comes on. Any suggestions?

      Was your Elf plugged in to auxiliary power when you tried your water pumps? You probably have a hot water heater (with small built in tank) and a fresh water tank.

    Hey mate!
    I have the same camper as you.
    I bought and had installed a brand new engine 4JG2 and I still can barely make up hills……..is there an engine that I could put in on that thing without make big modifications?
    I wish I could put a 6 cylinders in it.

    • @bobbyswampfox
      @bobbyswampfox  ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly have no clue about upgrading the engine. Might have luck putting a turbo in it but I haven't looked into that either. It's slow up hills for sure but could be worse so I'm ok with it in my area. But I think the low gears really slow it up too. Not sure if those could be changed out
