    Great video. Detailed explanations, and great camera work.
    I'm in the process of installing my Aliexpress unit.
    I also agree with not using the OBD port unless you have to.
    With that being said, does the backup camera work without the OBD port being plugged in?
    Cheers!

      Thanks! An [aftermarket] back up camera does not use the OBD II port - only the factory camera from what I've read from user comments.
      Are you looking to install an aftermarket back-up camera or connect the factory unit?

      @@nexus2lexus That's good to know, I'm looking forward to seeing it in your back-up camera video if you do make one.

      @@llllll5131 I will upload it soon. I almost forgot about it until you reminded me. I don't upload often because I run my son's YT channel that is decently monetized. My channel is just specifically because I want others to benefit from any info on it.
      One tip for drilling the hole in the trunk - it's double-walled construction. So when you drill the hole from the outside, you still can't feed a wire through it, because you need to drill another hole from inside the trunk lid.
      I will try to get that one up soon so you can see what I'm talking about. I recorded all that video over a year ago.

      @@llllll5131 I also want to add that my radio didn't come with a back up camera even though the Ali Express listing said that it did. At the time (Dec 2022), I wrote the seller and they advised me they ran out of back up cameras. So they reimbursed me for the price of a back up camera on Amazon.
      I paid a little more and I got the wide angle camera. Some may not like pseudo fish-eye view, but it's actually amazing to see more of the sides as I'm backing up. With it, I can literally see my neighbor's car in their driveway before I even pull out of the garage. This really helps when backing out of the driveway as there are speeders on my street.

      @@nexus2lexus Sweet! I'm pretty lucky to find this video, because all of the other IS250 installs were a few years old. My car is also a non-nav/non ML as well. Looking forward to your next video on the Lexus! Thanks for responding so quickly, and the super informative advice. This helps me prepare for my install.

    i have a ml radio, do you know if you have to splice into the harness to use the OEM camera?

    • @nexus2lexus
      @nexus2lexus  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From the information I've read from other users across a few brands, there's no splicing for the OEM camera since it's already incorporated into the wiring.
      With that said, there's several different sellers for what seems like the same aftermarket unit. Most differ from one another in their U.I.'s, their launchers, specs, and even at least one of them offer an amended wiring interface into the factory system. This isn't taking into account that there's other models of the Android head unit itself - such as the model with knobs.
      The only way to know for sure is to contact the seller for the model that your interested in. I've haven't heard anything negative about seller support, except for timezone differences.

    Thank you! Great video, this and your other back-up camera wiring video are lifesavers for any 2IS owner installing an android head unit! Now, when I connect the reverse light signal to the brown wire on the head unit's black connector, the screen will start switching back and forth from the home screen to the back up screen, back to the home screen then to the back up, and so on (I see the back up ruler lines on the screen when it goes into rear view, but no image, just a black screen with the back up lines on it. This happens every single time it enters into back up mode, while switching back and forth to the home screen). Do you know what could be the problem I'm having?

    • @nexus2lexus
      @nexus2lexus  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@silverbullet4007 bear with me because I have a few questions. Firstly, are you positive that you found the correct wire for the reverse light at the rear? Secondly, do you have the proper setting for back camera on your radio? The setting should be set to NTSC, not PAL. It sounds like there's possibly at least 2 separate issues you may running into.
      Another question I have is about your OEM set-up. Did you have factory nav with screen or just a base radio.
      Finally, did the back up camera come with the radio unit or is it aftermarket? Thanks

      @@silverbullet4007 how many wires does your aftermarket camera have? Does it have red, black and blue at the radio end?
      I suggest double checking voltages at your front and rear connections to make sure you're not getting voltage drops - voltage should be consistent the entire time. If it is, I would honestly suspect your aftermarket camera.
      Same with your grounding point, should have consistent voltage. It sounds like you've done everything correctly, but not seeing how everything is wired makes it difficult to troubleshoot.
      Another thing to check is if the black cable connection for the back-up camera is properly aligned. There should be 2 arrows that point to each other letting the installer know that the pins are mated to their respective inputs.

    • @silverbullet4007
      @silverbullet4007 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Both my head unit and my cam are different than yours, so cam wiring is a red/black for ground and 2 reds, one for cam power and one for triggering the head unit, all at the cam side (no blue wires on this one).
      I brought pos and neg directly from the battery to the cam and it's still doing the same, so the problem is not voltage, or my connections. It's down to either the cam, or the head unit itself.
      The cam is brand new, the head unit is second hand, so I'm inclined to think a rear view problem might be why someone would put it up for sale at such a great low price 😩🤦🏻‍♂️
      I guess since it's more inexpensive, it makes sense to buy a different new cam first, to re-test and find out?

    • @nexus2lexus
      @nexus2lexus  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@silverbullet4007 aw man, sorry to hear that about the radio being used. I hope it's not the issue.
      I have tested a backup camera by connecting it to a tv and used a vehicle battery jumper box to power the camera. This was probably close to 8 years ago, maybe 10. The reason I used a tv to test was because the camera was to connect to a rear view mirror screen. I wanted to see if the rearview mirror was the issue or the backup camera. Back then, it was indeed the back up camera. You can try that & maybe that'll help you ascertain if it's the radio or the backup camera without spending any money.

    How well is the AM/FM antenna working? Do you have a link to that antenna by any chance?

    • @nexus2lexus
      @nexus2lexus  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      (Edited because I wasn't thinking about where the antenna was connected) Sorry I don't have a link. I purchased that passive antenna back in the 90's. Using this antenna, it picks up all the FM channels that I have saved in my presets. When in my garage, some of the channels go to static, but I honestly can't remember if it did that before.
      Again, I use Android Auto more than anything anymore.

      @@Bartsimpsons0n nah. The easiest way for me to install it would have been to not record it all for people that have never installed a radio.
      The radio had already been installed for almost 2 years, but I felt bad for the guys in the comment sections of other install videos struggling with this radio because it had no instructions. Shame on the company.
      I didn't want to, but I actually uninstalled the radio just to make the video - I just felt bad for people struggling with it. Then I recorded it with the lay person in mind (someone that may have never even changed a fuse). Otherwise it only took me an hour from start to finish to install the radio and back up camera.
      Btw, I run a separate, monetized YT channel with over 25k subs, over 13 mil views, and 23k hours of watch time per month. I'm not trying, don't have time, nor do I need to grow this Lexus/Infiniti channel. I just want to help the next generation with what I can.
