  • Watch as I take you thru the steps that an average person, right in their own garage, needs to perform to do an oil change on a 2009 Volvo S60 2.5T. The procedures should be about the same for any Volvo in this same time period. Feel free to let me know your thoughts and comments. I would love to hear what you do differently.

    Lube the o-ring on the oil filter cover prior to reassembly to prevent tearing and for a better seal.

    Great video! Is it okay to insert the filter cartridge first onto car and then put the cap after on it?

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The filter cartridge won't stay attached to the car. There is nothing it pushes on to that can retain it. For that reason, you have to put it in the filter housing or "cap" then put it on the car.

    • @hilapizu5491
      @hilapizu5491 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FloydNashFixItDad I used original volvo filter wich has smaller inner diameter so it stays there, and so I installed the filter cartridge first and was just wondering afterwards if something could go wrong using this technique? Probably everything is ok and the housing just slides onto it's place when tightened properly?

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@hilapizu5491 Correct, it really doesn't matter as long as you turn it until it fully seats. Doesn't need to be super tight, just tighten until it makes contact and stop.

    2nd you want to chock the back wheels because s60 park brakes are garbage lol great video mate greetings from the U.K.

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The S60 uses a drum design on the inside of the rear rotor for the parking brakes. A common problem is when they don't aren't adjusted right, or if the pads are worn on the "shoes" for the parking brake. I've made sure mine are adjusted properly in excellent condition, and they work really well. You set the parking brake on this and you can drag the car down the road but those wheels won't spin.

    Looks like you managed to record this without jacking the car up? I'm surprised there's enough clearance; I might try it myself next time though!

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh it definitely needs jacked up at least on one corner to get clearance to slide under. I only wish I were that thin. Since this video, I invested in a set of Rhino Ramps to make it easier. One of the absolute best purchases ever.

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's actually a really good idea. I cleaned mine out and checked it for residue or metal parts a couple of oil changes ago. It was clean and had no sludge or residue, probably because I change my oil very regularly and use good quality oil. With canister filters, it's always a good idea to check for those things. Thanks for sharing and letting us know about this helpful idea.

    why not use good filter and oil?

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The Mann filters are some of the best you can get for this vehicle. They are Euro spec filters. I've compared them to the stuff I can get at a local auto parts store and they are a good bit better than any I've tried, and if I buy half a dozen at a time, they are actually a bit cheaper too. The oil is good oil as well. I've used it on vehicles for a long time and always had excellent results. Any good quality oil is going to be fine as long as you change it regularly and at the proper intervals for the driving/weather conditions. In case you didn't actually watch the video, I'm using a Valvoline High Mileage full synthetic which has added conditioners to make sure the seals are all in good shape on the vehicle.

    • @stevemccooleq
      @stevemccooleq 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He did. Mann are good filters and that is a turbocharged engine (which runs hotter than a naturally aspirated engine) so you need to use full synthetic oil, which he did. The brand is not as important as long as you change it regularly. Any oil sold in the USA must meet minimum requirements.

    • @stevemccooleq
      @stevemccooleq 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I use Mahle filters on my V70 (same engine as the S60) but Mann, Bosch, Wix are all good. The Volvo OEM is good too of course but expensive. I would avoid Fram, Purolator and store brands for this car.
