Good job. I was told they tightened my filter cover too tight so I need to order another one.

Great step by step explanation! And, why does everyone tighten that drain plug SO TIGHT????? 😁

Question have a 2002 for my son oil change looks easy but, what is the filter looking thing on the back of the oil pan? Is that something that needs changing? Or is it just their? Unfortunately my sons oil filter is covered in oil so should be interesting to get off.

That is not a filter it is part of the oil cooling system and does not need replaced! Unless it were to fail.

I have a 2004 Volvo S80 2.5 Turbo and my oil pressure warning light popped on. Any idea what causes this and any recommendations.

A man after my own heart, regarding your opinion of 'professionals' working on cars. Last year I bought a Saab from an elderly couple, who had the car regularly maintained at the dealer. I got it and immediately went to change the oil as I normally would.. only to find the sump plug ringed. What kind of psychopath rings a sump plug... and then doesn't bother to change it?! I had to use a bolt extractor to get it out. Also on my brother's S40, I bent a ratchet trying to undo his sump plug. I really dislike the Volvo's oil filter arrangement on these things.
Any issues with the S80 in general? Always quite liked them, hence watching this video..

Yep I will never understand it!! Yes, the s80 is a wonderful car when the proper maintenance is done. 2.4t is the best engine/transmission. Have to do the timing belt every 100k, synthetic oil changes, service the PCV at 100k, and change the transmission fluid every 50k or so. If you do that these cars will run longer than you want to drive them haha. My wife currently drives one with 150k going strong.

@@matt-diy Cheers mate : ) It's a sad world when I'd rather have a 20 year old S80 than anything Volvo have for sale today..!

@@lukemallory7832 I have 2 of these, both 2.4 petrol manual. One is '00 @ 55k miles and one is '05 @165k miles. I have other cars but these are the best built, especially if a lorry tries to take you out on the M25 :D

@@carldavies2005 Cheers! Similarly to you, I also own 2 Saab 9-5s. A 2007 2.0t BioPower auto with 150k miles on it, and a 2008 2.0t BioPower auto with 98k miles on it. I seem to buy cars in pairs. I'm thinking I might go the XC70 route, something like a 2004 with the 2.5t, but I'm aware of the issues regarding that engine - I just won't go diesel. Sadly, here in Ireland, there are very few old S80s/V70s about anymore - even for the later P3 'Ford' versions. I look after my parents 940 and C70 also, both bought new back in '98, so it would be nice to get into a Volvo again..

@@lukemallory7832 a fellow sensible person! :) lovely to chat to you! You can find some good ones still in England and Scotland mostly, the S80 that became a football on the M25 I drove up to 'almost' Scotland to buy on Xmas eve one time. 1 owner, 2.4, 35k miles. £2,500. I'd pay 4x that for the car now, but unfortunately they aren't valued the same when somebody hits you and minimal damage writes it off... yeah, steer clewr of Turbos, however the older 2.4 diesels are solid engines too. I don't like extra stuff, the EGR and DPF are extra things to work with but actually, I'd go diesel if I couldn't get petrol... SAAB are also awesome cars, boring and low tech and so good to drive and keep you safe and moving! Do you garage yours? I have a BMW 2002 garaged as it's my little bit of fun I kept from uni and it's doing OK... pairs is the way to go, small things always go on older cars and it's kinda fun to figure them out. I had my HL adjusters go on my 05 S80 and that was irritating to sort, same with the head unit blowing up... but they are like £100-200 repairs, no biggie :D your parents have taste... XC70, now those aren't badly priced, do get naturally aspirated though you are spot on, I think they were the last pre Chinese Volvos?

I really don't understand why they tighten the bolts so much.
