    @IAMASPANNER I changed the air filter on my Euro 4 D5 today: no need to unplug the wires of the ECU, just unscrew the 5 Torx that stay in place into the plastic cover, lift the ECU top a little bit, remove the old filter and slide the new one inside, and that's it.

    Just did mine last weekend! The fuel filter cartridge is made by Purflux. GSF carry them, and there’s an eBay seller as well. I paid about £12 for one last month. I do around 8 litres of ATF each service as well, about once every 10k miles.

    @IAMASPANNER you answered below "Yes! It's now at 337k miles" ... that's promising for me, as my D5 is only at 311k KM that is just 193k Miles 😀
    Looking under the hood I've seen that I get the Air Filter of the Euro 4 model that you show at 28:00 and I already think that removing these 5 small Torx screws when the box is inside the compartment will not be as easy as removing the clips on yours 😝

      Just got to 344k now, some silly issues but nothing wrong with the engine! Oil changes every 5-10k and they’ll last forever.

    I've changed the oil on my d5 many times.....6 litres takes it to the full mark. Never ever got 6.5 litres in mine. I had the same oil drain container.....it was crap....I took my stanley knife out and cut a window in it, now it works!

    I do appreciate this video..however i think that you should be able to prime the system..because the HPFP uses diesel as lubricant for its moving parts...lack of diesel results in metal shavigs everybody dreads about..cheers mate👍👍

    Hi! My 2004 XC70 2.4d is getting some love because of your channel (I'm subscribed!) and the cambelt change you go through makes it considerably less daunting having somebody explain it step-by-step!! Thank you. Have you done a power steering pump breakdown and reseal video? Mine is complaining like a bored teenager every time I power away out of a roundabout.

      Hello, thank you for the support! I haven’t don’t a power steering pump, no. The issues I keep having with mine are the racks failing.

    Hi to catch the oil just use a cut down builders plastic bucket nice and wide and easy to transfer to another container 👍after

    Oil fill level. Believe the oil fill level is recommended to only be half way up the hatched area on the dipstick. During regeration of the DPF, when the engine is intentionally overfuelled, diesel can blow past the pistons into the sump. In extreme cases it has resulted in engine overspeed if the sump level gets too high and it not being possible to turn the engine off with the key.

    • @nigeltoon1848
      @nigeltoon1848 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This is an E3 engine, no DPF.

      I hardly can imagine such atomised fuel get past piston rings…

    Is that really 327k on the clock? I have a D5 with 65k on and it's one of the best cars I've owned. Thanks for your servicing guide - I think I'm going to take mine to an independent garage to save crawling around underneath. I'm minded to change the oil at 6000 miles to preserve the engine /turbo life - I'd welcome your thoughts on this and whether you'd suggest leaving the old filter in and just replacing it at 12000 miles?

    • @IAMASPANNER
      @IAMASPANNER  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! It's now at 337k miles. I definitely advocate 5-6k service intervals and if you're going to change the oil you may as well do the filter with it being on top of the engine and easy to get to. I tend to use genuine Volvo or Mann filters. Thanks for the comment and all the best with your car!

      Cheers Leon, yeah I’m over in Goole, they do look after me at Riverside Hull, had a lot from there. I always check prices against aftermarket though like this week I need a wheel bearing, I’ll never fit budget parts but Volvo is £230 whereas SKF (high quality aftermarket) is just £100 👍. It’s nice to fit genuine parts but sometimes it’s just not viable.

      Too thin for the early engine with high mileage in my opinion.

  • @gheorghinacov6008

    Sorry to say but you’ve done some important mistakes. Oil must be drained only when the car is at level. In your case since the oil cooler is behind the engine it means the oil remained in there because you did not have the car level.
    About the fuel filter change, since by yourself you mentioned the D5’s bleed the air by themselves you just had to turn on and off the ignition until no air was heard in the fuel filter housing. It sound so painful to crank the engine for half a minute straight.
    Just remove the damn carpet to add the last screw to the cabin filter housing! Such amateur mistakes

    • @IAMASPANNER
      @IAMASPANNER  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Do you realise how much oil is left in an engine during an oil change, no matter what you do? If you’re changing your oil regularly I don’t believe the 100-200ml difference that you’re possibly talking about makes any difference when if you took the sump off completely you’d find 500ml+ drains out overnight.
      Im not happy with the fuel filter, I wouldn’t normally lose so much diesel when changing. I cycled the ignition many times but it seems there was too much air in there, nowhere for it to go but through the injectors. I could have loosened a high pressure pipe to remove the air but I don’t believe any damage will have been done.
      The screw for the cabin filter was already missing and I’m guessing from your comment you’ve never lifted the carpet up on one of these as it’s attached to a huge formed foam block.
      Nowhere do I claim to be a professional.

      No offence, honestly. I too own D5’s and, as ridiculous as you may find it, it’s disturbing to see some important details on servicing the engine. I watch other D5 owners as well and try to learn from all of them. No offending was intended in my earlier comment, it was meant to be constructive, sorry if I seemed arrogant
