    As a Korean American watching this and knowing how difficult it was for me to learn English when I moved here 15 years ago, it’s really amazing to see you speak English so fluently! Especially since you’re in Korea too.

      It charged at around 180 kw those 5 minutes. Good 400V systems can do the same, like the etron at 150kw or the eqs at 200. But for a car in the mid price bracket, it's really good. Hopefully they have a good 400V to 800V transformer, so you aren't loading at snail speed on a 400V charger.

      @@Psi-Storm I think it doesn’t need an adapter or anything. It works with either. I just realised what you were saying. Yeah, hopefully it charges at a reasonable speed at 400V. Perhaps Charlie can test that when he gets the ioniq 5 back

      @@Psi-Storm I've "seen" 230kw peak. So a 150kw charger would limit the charge rate.

    the price point is mindblowing. I hope they can bring that same pricepoint/features to the US. Excited for this car. Current Tesla owner and I would trade in for this in a split second.

    Actually impressed. There is just something positive about having a few knobs and buttons. You don't feel like you are at the absolute mercy of the car.

      100% agree. The industry seems to be in a race to get rid of buttons as fast as possible, especially in EVs. Not sure if they actually listening to customers or falsely attributing lack of physical controls to futuristic design or blindly following Tesla's example, but they need to reverse course and think about balancing high tech appearance with actual usability and safety. Voice recognition and AI in general is not ready to replace human control.

      Only in technology. The society as a whole is old fashioned and conservative, although the younger generations are more ‘modern’ in their outlook.

      @@disarchitected What made you think they're old-fashioned tho haha. I feel like they're one of the more stylish peoples I've seen. They value so much about appearance, for good and bad (if u know, u know) lol. The older generations probably yea but it's true for any old peoples in anywhere, so it kinda not valid statement. I look at K-pop idols (not my type music btw), their outfits and styling are ngl very cool, chic although a bit unconventional but it's refreshing still haha. My 2 cents

    That fast charging is going to be a game changer. Basically eliminated 90% range anxiety.

      @@arthemis1039 It only charge that fast until 80%. After that, it will significantly trickle down its input. It's the same trick used by any modern chargeable gadgets powered by lithium ion battery including the phone you're viewing at rn. Cheers

    Here in Korea, Hyundai took 25000 pre-orders for this! Seems like a winner! But I think I prefer the new Kia EV6 that was just released

      Yeah, that's a tough one. I like the light interior. Not sure if the Kia has that. I've had two Kias that are black on black, and I'm a bit tired of it.

      You are right and it is not a coincidence. The design is inspired by first gen Hyundai Pony that was designed by the same person who designed Lancia Delta.

    Still would've prefer traditional side-mirrors to be honest, but other than that, I like everything I'm seeing in this car. Really can't complain about its design, it looks so good!

      Agree. The digital side mirrors doesn't look good, I would pay extra not to have these ugly things on an otherwise good looking car.

      Digital side mirrors are offered as options, so you can either purchase the ones with or without.

      @@srenjuul9874 The cameras on the outside looks very cool but it's what the inside screens implementation that spoiled me. But I think they've done their best and I can't figure out better design than that haha. The sleekest implementation I've seen so far is in Audi e-Tron but that car suffer a lot in terms of ergonomic since driver need to view the side screens slightly below from eye level, so not ideal as well. Digital side cameras still seems like an awkward new technology atm imo.

      I'd add VW too. The Q4-eTron is pretty desirable as well, not to mention the higher end Audi and Porsche. But in view the Ioniq 5 has the edge.

    Ioniq 5 is one of my favorite " E " vehicles. Really like exterior with exception of door handles. Seems like they could break easily. Interior looks good, would be an adjustment phase. Well done review Charlie ! Slainte' ! Cheers !

      @@4literv6 The shortage is not by design. The plan was for more than 100,000 worldwide but due to component shortages they are struggling to build them. I’m on the wait list in USA and my dealer told me I’d be lucky to see mine before December.

      The cameras are almost the same size as normal mirrors. It's just another thing that get's costly in a repair. It also doesn't look it covers the whole blind spot, so the only real advantage for a camera isn't even there.

    Thank you for a great review. Being a owner of the i30 N, I had already thought of next car being electric. Hyundai are the most impressive car manufacturer out there. So it only makes sense that the Ionia 5 belongs in my drive.

    Just got the Tesla 3 2021, but honestly, I want this, it's so much more practical. The only problem is that the charging network in America is so bad for anything that's not a Tesla.

      You are absolutely right. The poor charging system in America is such a hinderance for everyone except Tesla. Either way I still really like this and would get it if finances permit.

    You are one of the best car reviewers in the world. I really like how you present the information in a calm/professional manner and let each person decide if they like it or not. A lot of car reviewers try to convince people that something is good or bad but you don't and I love that. In America we have a news talk radio station called NPR and they present information similar to you.

      The camera monitors don’t look good in my opinion. Those huge white bezels are terrible. Couldn’t they have integrated them into the interior better?

    Nice charging station. It could make sense for an inner city charging station at 800v to limit each car to 5 minutes of charging - should be enough to get around a city for most if not all the day.

      It could also make sense to limit each ICE-car to 10l of fuel to limit the amount of fuel trucks in needed in the city. Doesn't make sense, does it?

    AP, always appreciate your reviews! I'm driving a hybrid Toyota Highlander now and some day hope to go fully electric. The IONIQ 5 is impressive and I won't be going back to a gas only vehicle, full electric is a leap but as the technology improves I'm moving in that direction. I would love to visit your country some day and do a review with you. I'm not a professional, but I'm an auto enthusiast lol.

    I think I’d rather have the regular mirrors. Seems quicker to use IMO since you’ve gotta check what’s to the side of the camera

    This and the EV6 look like game changers - especially if they come in around $45K as you suggest. (Between the apparent fit-and-finish, amenities, and fantastic styling, they look like they would cost at least $10K more.)

    Love the car, but I think I’d skip paying for the digital side mirrors. They don’t look very well integrated like the Audi ones. That said I really like this car. I’ve been waiting for this video for a long time. Thanks Charlie!

I like what I see, the overall fit and finish, drivability and the functionality of the 5. The Korean pricing is really interesting too, and I am looking forward to finding out how that translates into NZ pricing.     Do the screen has a have a dark mode, and does it come with a black frame? When the inside is black or dark, a black frame around the screen would fit nice.

      I agree. Like the car in general - love the 800 volt charging and V2L, but the screen looks odd - too big of a border. Wasted screen space and looks cheap. Do not like the digital mirrors - take up too much interior room.

    If they are going to go side view mirror cameras, the screens have to be blended in to the interior much better. Just putting screens on the doors, looks terrible. Also why is the side view mirror cameras so big, I thought the whole point is to make it smaller for better aero. Might as well have a normal side view mirror.
