Just wanted to say that I love my Panasonic UB 9000 4K Blu-ray player and I haven’t hooked up to a Sony 83 inch big screen a 90 J and she’s hooked up to premium Sonos sound bar and premium Sonos subwoofer and premium surroundsound speakers the Sonos fives! And it’s just fantastic!👍
An investment that I'm more than satisfied with. I purchased my UB9000 in 2019 and I haven't had any issues with it. I bought it solely for it's top rated performance specs and nothing else. In that category they deserve an A+ rating. Although Panasonic does flaunt this as a streaming platform I never had the intention to use it as one. I will admit though that they could have (more appropriately, should have) done a much better job than the sloppy and mediocre one they included.
I'm glad you're enjoying it! It's probably my favorite player I've had the pleasure of using since my old Oppo 203. The streaming and network features is really the only weakness that the Panasonic's truly have.
@@b-icemedia But You can connect this player to a AVR Denon AVR-X 2800, 7.2, 150W, 8K, which can handle streaming, and use the Blu-ray player only for playing discs (wherever kind of)
Your narration is superb. I’ve seen plenty of TH-cam channels where they have all of the fancy studio’s, etc., but the narration is not good. I can see your channel growing quickly.
You can connect your speakers through your receiver via HDMI, which is usually the best option. If you have older speakers with RCA connections, then you can connect via RCA or XLR to a receiver or amplifier, which I mentioned in the video.
I had a couple of Oppo 203's which are the best value high end universal disk player ever made in my opinion. I was having an issue with one of them so after 7 years I thought I'd upgrade. I bought a Reavon unit and went through 3 of them in 2 weeks, they all failed with different major problems and were all more noisey than an old bar fridge and Reavons response to my complaint, have you upgraded the firmware (hmm the transport falling to pieces inside the unit probably doesn't have anything to do with firmware). So I bought one of these Panasonic units, built like a tank, fast loading, fantastic picture and sound. If you don't need to play SACD or DVD-Audio disks this is the machine for you.
Oppo definitely set the standard high! I wish they continued to make players. I'm very surprised to hear that about Reavon's! I had only heard good things from the small amount of research I had done on them before, but I'm glad the Panasonic is working well for you!
7:51 Wouldn’t recommend DP-UB820-K. Bought one on Amazon. It didn’t switch on after a few days. My 4k Blu-ray disc was stuck inside. There is no manual eject used with a straightened paper clip. Lost my disc when I returned the player.
Man, I'm sorry to hear that! If you were just returning it, I would have unscrewed the shell and taken it out. I've had my UB820 for well over a year with no problems. You probably just got a lemon.
Is it sound better than the 820 ? I have a zidoo uhd5000 and when I tried the same Blu-ray I got a better sound on zidoo. So I need to know if the un 9000 got a bettter precision with sound mapping than 820
Yes, the sound quality is better on the UB9000. I talked about this in my comparison video. You can check it out here: th-cam.com/video/eEUHywwAAE0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Q6x_7CnqNL_kJb87
On sale for in the UK for 1K - i expect perfection and would hope at that price there was no skipping and the build quality is up to scratch - also (like most products) is made in China. I don't like the look and feel of the app store though guess you wouldn't buy this player primarily for that. I like Panasonic and given the choice, would get the DP-UB820-K
I didn't experience any issues at all with the UB9000, and I never have with my UB820 either. I think it would have been better suited for them to have just left streaming off all together.
My Blu-ray player only supports one external HDD up to 4TB. Will a splitter cable (with multiple USB 3.0 ports) be enough to make the player's menu recognize two 4TB HDDs, even though the player will obviously only be able to read one of them?
Hello my friend I saw that you have the panasonic Ub 820 and now you got the ub9000. Which one would you recommend? Your opinion will be really helpful to my decision. Thanks a lot.
Just wanted to share my 2¢'s worth. As far as disc playback features go, the 820 offers the same premium performance as the 9000. If money is a bit of an issue, you can't go wrong in choosing this model. If money isn't an issue then I'd highly recommend getting the 9000. Home Theater is a serious hobby of mine so I'm willing to spend the extra buck in order to get that high-end premium look with a performance to match.
I've had both and the 820 does not compare. The video is not quite to the same standard as the 9000 but the audio is really where the 9000 pulls ahead. The sound over hdmi on the 820 sounds much softer and weaker than playing from the 9000. If you play sound from your tv speakers go 820. If you have an audio system definitely go 9000!
I actually addressed this in the conclusion of the video, but I went with the UB820 because I didn't want to pay an extra $400-$500 to say I owned the flagship model. If money is no issue, then I would go UB9000, hands-down.
I applaud you for reviewing the unit but your review kind shit the bed my friend. You didn't even mention the incredible performance the 9000 puts on. The audio coming from this unit is sensational. If you have a good audio system, this player will push it to it's max. It sounds amazing over the analog outs as well, by-passing your receiver and going straight to your amplifier. The 9000's video is a small step up from the 820's FYI. But the 9000 monsters the 820 in the audio dept. with thunderous, crisp sound. It is a much nicer ownership experience as well. I just plugged in my old Sony 800xm2. It looks good, it sounds decent. And if 200 or so is your budget, it's the one to get. But the 9000 is actually a great value especially compared to Revon and Magnetar models, which lack the Panasonics video processing chops.
I appreciate your feedback! I couldn't personally tell a difference between the UB820 vs UB9000 in terms of picture quality, but I do know audio quality it is superior, especially with music. I'll talk about this topic more in an upcoming video, but it's been a debate and topic of discussion for quite a while! haha
Have it and it can not play mkv files, even directly off a usb. It for some weird reason cannot see anything on my stmp 2.0 local network except the admin folder. All other devices, windows, apple ,nividia ,can see all folders and drives perfectly.
I'm sure you can, but it would require a mod. You can do this yourself from what I've seen if you're comfortable micro soldering, or you can purchase one already modded and region-free on Amazon.
With reference to your review: firstly, the remotes glossy finish is likely to show every single fingerprint that you put on it. The backlight looks like it has to be activated by a button and not motion? And apart from the top inch of the remote, the rest of it is almost a carbon copy of an Oppo 203/205 remote. I don't know of any THX certified 4K Blu-ray discs and DTS X and Dolby Vision make it largely redundant as a standard and sound format - licence money that could have been used better elsewhere leading me nicely to the next issue... As far as I can tell it doesn't offer SACD playback? - so not a universal disc player. If you are going to spend vast amount of money on a high-end 4K Blu-ray player the chances are you already have a high-end screen with all the apps built in, so you wouldn't really need them in this player? There are two brands that make higher end machines than this but at least one of them doesn't even offer wireless network connection so in many respects, as expensive as you think this machine is, it's not as bad as spending three times that amount and finding you have to plug in an ethernet cable 😫
The remote actually has more of a metallic, matte finish to it, so I haven't had any issues with fingerprint buildup. And yes, the light is activated by the bottom left "light" button, but it's placed well, so it's easy to find. I've noticed all of the top 4K players (Panasonic, Reavon, Magnetar) rip off the Oppo's quite a bit, lol. The THX certification is basically meaning the machine itself will playback audio and video at studio mastered quality. Although, I do think it's more of a fancy licensing more than anything. And as I mentioned in the video, no SACD, but I don't think it claims to be a universal player though either. I agree that most people will have a smart TV to playback streaming, but it's still crappy to boast of streaming capability and then offer the terrible setup and app store that it does. It's just not a good luck, and they really should have just killed streaming with these players in general.
@@b-icemedia I don't really consider your Panasonic @ $1k to be that expensive for a 4k Blu-ray player, but there is a perception amongst the majority of people who expect value for money. It just depends on whether or not you feel streaming is as or more important than having a machine which is capable of playing any disc you throw at it. I do happen to agree with you that you either go all in or not bother. Oppo's view was they didn't want to be responsible for supporting apps on their machine when they could better utilise their costs on higher quality components and finish. In the 7 years since Oppos decision to leave the market and concentrate on mobile phones (more profit) no one has really added any new features or moved the format forward. I think I read somewhere that the Panasonic is capable of independently being able to adjust the brightness of subtitles, which for those who need it is a great idea 👍😎
Someone else mentioned no SACDs made it a no for them, and I as I told them, it's definitely an interesting choice to leave it out as it's more geared toward audio than the other models.

This player has been nothing but a huge headache and waste of money. Had it repaired once ($115) since I was still under warranty. Then outside warranty the remote for whatever reason started to fail. Contacted Panasonic for replacement ($170 with tax and shipping) this is on top of the player already costing me $1200. Never again will I buy anything Panasonic.
Wow, I'm sorry to hear that! You're one of the few people that's left negative feedback about the player. You can actually find cheap replacement remotes for under $20 on Amazon if that's ever the case again.
My man. You paid 170 for a replacement remote? If it was still under warranty how come you had to pay 115? I've had mine for 6 years and it's been flawless. Hopefully you don't have anymore issues with it.
It has a horrible interface. It does not support Hulu and many other popular streaming services. I hate that when you change between Amazon Prime and Netflix you have to manually adjust the screen size from 16:9 to CUSTOM other wise the Netflix will be slightly zoomed. It's barely noticeable but if you look closely you can see the border change from letterbox to full screen. Also, it does not output analog audio and digital simultaneously. You must pick an output and stick with it. Also, it has an awesome remote but it can only be paired with other Panasonic devices. No big deal except Panasonic pulled out of the US market the same year I purchased this device. I purchased it mainly because I was going to get a Panasonic 4K HDTV at a later date. Panasonic screwed the US consumers. It's built like a tank and that is the only positive thing I can say about it. It plays 4K blurays well but that is all it's good for. Any sub $100 bluray player is better. I was a Panasonic loyal customer for over 30 years. F*CK Panasonic!
Agreed, the interface looks terrible on such an expensive player. I never noticed the screen size change! I only used Netflix once or twice a while ago, but I hated how slow it was and never used it again. And yes, that's true on the remote, but that's usually how most OEM remotes are in general, so it's not surprising. Newer TV software and universal remotes are the exception.
@@b-icemedia It's a beautiful bluray player and that was my primary reason for buying it. I shouldn't complain about all the other stuff. It's just so frustrating that I'm stuck with a Sony or Samsung TV which only adds to the misery because Panasonic TVs are no longer available. If you think I'm being too harsh on Panasonic then you don't want to get me started ranting about Sony and Samsung. Ha! Good review and thanks for the video.
No physical media player needs built in apps. You buy a premium physical media player to do what,,,,long pause here. ? Streaming services boxes are 60 bucks or less.
The UB9000 is unsurpassed for picture, audio and build quality. Why would you want to use it as a streaming platform, or for any other reason than Bluray/DVD and HD audio, when your TV does all of that? The reason Panasonic have terribly outdated platform is their focus on playback quality, which is second to none. I have 2 of these, the first I bought in 2014 and the latest in 2021 when the updated version (P1K-updated ESS Sabre DACS) was released. Both have performed without issue or glitches of any kind for thousands of hours of playback. They are only used for Bluray/UHDBluray and audio.
I disagree on your take, but I respect your opinion! The HDR optimizer, the ability to utilize all of the HDR formats, and reference level visuals AND audio put this above your mentioned alternatives. However, I will agree this is on the pricier side for most people.

This player will play 3D Blu-ray Discs, and it is cheaper than the Magnetar UDP 800 or 900
It sure will! I think the Magnetar's are really overkill for the majority of consumers, but I am interested in testing them out soon.
Hi, I am in Ghana and I have one but unfortunately, my remote control is missing, how can I get one, please?
I actually just created a video on this specific topic! I have the link for your convenience here: th-cam.com/video/WzoFq6p5jUo/w-d-xo.html
Thanks so much, Bro
Please ,how can I connect it to my other home theatre speakers or any other speakers? (kindly do a video for me).
Hasnt been a FW updates for a few years
I actually just got notified of an update a few months ago!
Can't play SACDs. For me, it's a waste of money.
Definitely understandable! I find it interesting that it's more audio oriented than the other models but still chose to leave SACDs out.
99.9999999% of people dont care about sacds.
Still the best 4K Player out there, there's loads of great ways to play SACDs! A decent Sony DVD is worth a look if you're on a Budget or if you've got cash for a high end a Technics SL-G700M2 or LE Oppo 205🎵🔥
If you can find a used Oppo 203 for less, jump on it.
You more than likely won't with how the market for those are. Plus, you have to trust it was taken care of and well packaged, so it's a bit risky.
If 2 grand for a totally unsuported doesn't bother you.
Btw its the worse interface and os system i have ever seen.
Looks and performs like some amateur 12 yo coder in 1992 wrote it.
This guy has no clue another Gen Z content creator with bad info
Eh, I have access to the same info as everyone else plus my opinion on it! I appreciate the feedback though.
My man. What kind of bad info?
He doesn't know the difference between inputs and outputs!
I do, haha. I used the wrong wording and was still in the mindset of inputs after recently reviewing a TV. Thanks for catching that!
Too old and too expensive. PS5 slim (or PC) maybe a better choice (or streaming video subscription)
Disagree w the PS5 ... UB 820 is fantastic and more reasonably priced. The UB 9000 doesn't make sense to me, tbh
That's like saying Porsche's are too expensive. Take the bus instead.
And no, the 9000 has been updated (ESS dacs mainly).
I disagree on your take, but I respect your opinion! The HDR optimizer, the ability to utilize all of the HDR formats, and reference level visuals AND audio put this above your mentioned alternatives. However, I will agree this is on the pricier side for most people.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 good joke
Are you talking about you or the player being 'too old'?
Is this HDMI 2.1 capable
I believe it's 2.0.
