A little ahead of the Begdewadi Bus stop before Talegaon, we took the detour and turned right. Soon we were driving alongside the Indrayani River. Around 3 kilometers ahead, we came upon a cluster of houses with one or two multi-storeyed buildings. This we assumed was the small village of Kund Mala. On the other side of the road, the Indrayani suddenly disappeared out of sight. The first view of the waterfall parallel to the road is breathtaking. Vehicles can be driven right up to the waterfall.
The spectacular Kund Mala falls, Talegaon is formed by the Indrayani River cascading into rocky gorges. There is a small temple perched on one of the huge boulders overlooking the waterfall. There is a bridge built over the river which offers fantastic views of the waterfall. It is an exciting experience to walk across the bridge. Looking at the deep gorges one can but guess where the place derived its name from. The place is mostly secluded, quite and serene. One can rest under the shade of trees lined along the banks of the river.
When visiting Kund Mala Falls, do remember to carry a picnic basket, water and mat to relax on. This is into the interiors and there are no shops in the vicinity.
If you are around Pune or Lonavala and discovering new destinations excites you, then this is definitely one to go on your list. As word gets out, Kund Mala Falls will soon join the list of other popular monsoon destinations in Maharashtra.
