HI Danny. I still think about you every day even now, 30 years after your passing. I know you loved this band and every time I hear them I think of you.
🤔 to be honest ' it's almost better that they didnt make it big here in the USA. That would made them change their style to fit the us market. The Jam speaks of issues that only the UK or Europeans would understand. Long live the Jam. The UK and Europe. Thank you for sharing your great bands and talent with the world.. 🙏😊👽🍻
One of their most underrated singles. Tell em we don't fight for fools cos love is in our hearts. One of the best lyrics ever. I love that the line along with the music sounds like a war cry / march, but it's used like an anti-war slogan. So clever.
The forgotten classic Jam single. Never, ever played on the radio, always Malice,/Rifles/Underground....all great songs but this is definitely up there with them
Beginning of the video where they are standing in the road, thats the junction of Blythe road and Faroe road W14. Also only a few streets away from where Arthur Daileys car lot was filmed for the opening credits for Minder.
I am pained that I had to sit through a 15 second ad for Nickelbacks new album to get to listen to this lovely song. Nickelback shouldnt come within a country mile of anything written by The Jam or Paul Weller.
Lyrics In echoed steps I walked across an empty dream I looked across this world, there was no one to be seen This empty feeling turned and quietly walked away I saw no warmth in life, no love was in my eyes I stared a century thinking this will never change As I hesitated, time rushed onwards without me Too scared to break the spell, too small to take a fall But the absolute luck is, love is in our hearts! I lost some hours thinking of it I need the strength to go and get what I want I lost a lifetime thinking of it An' I lost an era daydreaming like I do I stared a century thinking this will never change As I hesitated, time rushed onwards without me Too scared to break the spell, too small to take a fall But the absolute luck is, love is in our hearts! In echoed steps you walk across an empty dream But look around this world, there's millions to be seen Come see the tyrants panic, see their crumbling empires fall Then tell 'em we don't fight for fools 'cause love is in our hearts! I lost some hours thinking of it I need the strength to go and get what I want I lost a lifetime thinking of it An' I lost an era daydreaming like I do You can lose some hours thinking of it You need the strength to go and get what you want You can lose a lifetime thinking of it And lose an era daydreaming like I do

I disagree a little. Foxton and Rourke are well known among people who pay attention to bass players. They might not be as popular as players from more mainstream bands, but their skills are heralded by many.
Man! Sounds as good as the day it was released! Total power trio. Came out of the ground fully formed like The Doors/Who etc. Loving the 'rifle crack' snare!
i'm an American, and I had this on an British import single, I lovingly played it for my neighbors, for weeks...I got several "thank you" notes. considering I grew up in the suburbs of Washington state, I consider this a small victory!
too true especially their harder hitting songs and some of their truly brilliant b-sides it saddens me that less people know of what truly was the finest music from the 70's and early 80's
Unfortunately The Jam never made it in the U.S.A. It's a plain shame. I only heard about them in 80. The Gift was just that.....a fucking beautiful gift of music to the people. Damn, I so wish I could have seen them.
First single bought, never saw them live unfortunately....met Bruce many times with FTJ and had a great meeting with Rick in London for The Jam exhibition, seen Paul in concert in The Style Council and solo but never met him...... Dreams of Children, give us another chance please >}
I remember when the album came out in 1981, it was like nothing I had heard before. I kept playing 'Absolute Begninners' every morning before I dragged my self to my first classes as a freshman in college and my nowhere job. It was only one of a few songs at the time that kept me out of total despair and hoping for a better future.
@@Mod-rw9cw It was a U.S. only EP featuring 5 songs - great songs: 1. Absolute Beginners, 2. Funeral Pyre, 3. Disguises, 4. Liza Radley, and a song that I find helps me keep my sanity as an older fellow - Tales from the Riverbank. "True it's a dream mixed with nostalsia, but it's a dream that I'll always hang to, that I'll always run to, won't you join me by the river bank", poetry with a tune that expresses both melocholy and hope.
@@gregafuso8226 I know it was a great song and should have been the A side of that single. You learn new things all of the time, I ever knew about that particular compilation.
I've always loved this song (shame it's so short...) and the video, it's great to see all the old Mk2 Cortinas, Triumph Dolomites, Vauxhall Viva's etc the lads run past, very evocative of a long gone time!
HI Danny. I still think about you every day even now, 30 years after your passing. I know you loved this band and every time I hear them I think of you.
Good man i know how you feel its hard at times but you have to keep going you know what i mean 😮
I definitely love The Jam. I wish they were more well known in the US but for those of us who know this band, we REALLY love them!
There was a radio episode I listened to back in '82 that examined why the band never broke big here.
Loved them for decades...now retired to 49777 and still listening!!
They got a fair amount of airplay on the LA stations I listened to. I adored them and their music still holds up.
One of their most underrated singles. Tell em we don't fight for fools cos love is in our hearts. One of the best lyrics ever.
I love that the line along with the music sounds like a war cry / march, but it's used like an anti-war slogan. So clever.
Paul Weller, kicking off 90s music before the 80s even had a chance!
I love the innocence of this video. Wow. Takes me back. I'm a kid of the late 70s / early 80s.
One of their best singles.
Good video, can't see many popstars of today running down a suburban street not trendy enough 😊.
Absolutely love this song ...never gets the air time it deserves
And everyone always misses that Rick had Weller's whistle in his mouth for the one shot. Take me back to this time in my life. It was magical...
Great Great Times indeed 👍
It was indeed x
The forgotten classic Jam single.
Never, ever played on the radio, always Malice,/Rifles/Underground....all great songs but this is definitely up there with them
Yep...I would definitely put this in my top 5 Jam singles.
in America...CRICKETS
Agree
You have never listened to 'Union Jack' radio then, you will hear this EVERY day....
As an American, this is the only song by The Jam that I grew up with. Probably due to Bowie having a song of the same name.
One of our greatest bands, incredible song writing and musical ability. Just amazing
Bruce’s most melodic bass line ever. Long, sustained notes pushing the melody on from start to finish.
There’s so much joy in this song ✨🥲✨
Beginning of the video where they are standing in the road, thats the junction of Blythe road and Faroe road W14. Also only a few streets away from where Arthur Daileys car lot was filmed for the opening credits for Minder.
I was genuinely wondering where were they,I thought it might be Woking. Cheers
Love everything about this song, but Foxton's bass is amazing. Really underrated musician IMO.
This song just breaks my heart, it's so hopeful
The Jam's most under-rated single.
I actualy thought the b side was better. Though the majority of their b sides were terrific! After all, this is the jam,💯 the best band ever!
Should have been a double-A single
It was my favorite song of theirs, one of those that instantly blew me away when I first heard it.
I am pained that I had to sit through a 15 second ad for Nickelbacks new album to get to listen to this lovely song. Nickelback shouldnt come within a country mile of anything written by The Jam or Paul Weller.
Baron Von Orlock : Well said and absolutely agreed, but not in a 'novice' kind of way. Cheers.
Adblock for TH-cam
It was indeed painful on my ears... Love this catch-a-groove from The Jam #suchatune
Baron Von Orlock you’re lucky, I had to sit through 15 seconds of a Chinese girl poking a butterfly
I sat through a 30 second ad on Fleetwood Macs new compilation album. Not too bad.
I love everything jam, seen from the jam countless times, my mums from Woking and Rick loves 2 seconds from my grandad ❤
I got goosebumps at the end. Incredible song of a great band.
A fantastic song, and what an incredible B side..
Love when Rick breaks the clock.
Good lord they were awesome. So much squeezed from a trio.
When the word classic comes up they all Jam songs the greatest band in the world

Classic
My theme song! I love The Jam!
Bruce Foxton and Andy Rouke to two incredibly underrated bassists
Do you mean ANDY ROURKE from The Smiths??? DJ
I disagree a little. Foxton and Rourke are well known among people who pay attention to bass players. They might not be as popular as players from more mainstream bands, but their skills are heralded by many.
Epco
I would add John powers to this list
Foxton anyway
This is great.
the drummer's the best runner
Robert Wright foxton, easy.
He hates clocks too.
He beats the clock
He has to be....Band's hate the drummers!
Sparks! Brilliant Band...
I need the strength to go and get what I want
I love the Jam! I was young when this was brand new! Absolute Beginners indeed!
Man! Sounds as good as the day it was released! Total power trio. Came out of the ground fully formed like The Doors/Who etc. Loving the 'rifle crack' snare!
Lovely song
These guys are just cool - even when they are running.
They run on Rickenbackers and Dr. Scholls
Yeah, and you wanna try running in Jam shoes or Arrows and making it look cool !!! Remember Arrows ?? 😎 😂
Just as incendiary and forthright 42 years later. Just wow everytime i hear it
The b side, the b side. Perfection
Brilliant music the best of the Jam
i'm an American, and I had this on an British import single, I lovingly played it for my neighbors, for weeks...I got several "thank you" notes. considering I grew up in the suburbs of Washington state, I consider this a small victory!
1:01 Dennis Waterman as Terry in Minder.
1:05 Martin Shaw as Doyle in The Professionals.
Red Rum always thought Rick looked like Dennis Waterman, lol :D
Ha totally get that
Red Rum thought Terry McCann as soon as Rick ran past...
Paul Weller as himself.
I got it..
My absolute fave Jam track...timeless!
Love those old streets and cars
first time i heard it i went to Phantom Records in Sydney and bought the 7" single. one of the best songs EVER
weller, get those knees up boy!
The Sweetest Pill!
As much as I love Bowie, I'll never understand how his song of the same name is more recognised!
Dig It!
Totally agree
too true especially their harder hitting songs and some of their truly brilliant b-sides it saddens me that less people know of what truly was the finest music from the 70's and early 80's
I keep coming back this tune. Perfection.
Unfortunately The Jam never made it in the U.S.A. It's a plain shame. I only heard about them in 80. The Gift was just that.....a fucking beautiful gift of music to the people. Damn, I so wish I could have seen them.
Yea all they needed were better songs. That felt like alot longer than 3 minutes.
@@potbelliedfool which is rather peculiar since what he was doing was based in the blues which is characteristically American.
Weller! his voice! perfect!
First single bought, never saw them live unfortunately....met Bruce many times with FTJ and had a great meeting with Rick in London for The Jam exhibition, seen Paul in concert in The Style Council and solo but never met him...... Dreams of Children, give us another chance please >}
discovered the jam through billy elliot and i just discovered this song through an 80s music video channel! really enjoying what i've heard so far
Paul Weller running is a rarity and hilarious.
bet they all stopped for a ciggy afterwards
Rick runs like an Athlete. Bruce hammers along too lol...
Thing song pushed me through Uni... Yea I remember loving this.
+Charles Jannuzi Ha. I thought the same thing. Dude can play the hell out of a guitar but no natural rhythm in his run.
THIS is THE JAM!
British pop, how I love it !!!
Bruce was the best runner in the Jam, hands down, Fox on the run, go my son, running round the ‘ouses like a racehorse on speed even!
I always like The Jam's videos. Why? Because there's absolutely nothing fancy. I like simplistic.
Remember this from the 80s. Love this song.
love is in are hearts always will be, that's what we all have to offer.
Union Jack playing this alot, great song and love hearing it on the way home from work....
Weller and Foxton running flat out while Buckler looks like he's got another gear :O)
Drummers got to have stamina :-)
Has anyone from the punk era had as eclectic a career as Paul? he's one of my heroes
Rotten is my hero
Elvis Costello
A Class of it`s own!
Which album was this on?
What album in 81 ??? It wasn’t in the UK.

I never noticed before but in the lyrics Weller is clearly telling the band he want to move on...
ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dj
Thanks to the Grosse Point Blank OST that I discovered this gem which led me to seek out the rest The Jam’s music!
They had it all songs style and class no band will ever come close
1:12 Weller is like damn my drummer and bass player are faster than me 😂
It kills me that I never had or will have the chance to see The Jam live, I was born in the wrong era
This song is so freaken' addicting!
Can't stop listening to it >.
For all those having a go at Weller’s running !! You try running in Jam shoes or arrows !!
Anyone remember arrows here ? 😎😂
Yes had them
Had them ran ok in them ,,
Still a great video and song even to this day 1/24/24
One if my favorites. Perfect 😊
I love how most of the comments are about the band members' running styles :)
I needed this
We need the strenght to go and get what we want!!!
When Bucks smashed the clock, my 15-year-old self was gob-smacked: "Whuuuuuu, that was AWESOME!"
me too!
Love is in our hearts ❤
Seriously under-rated bassist. This bass line is _so_ good!
I've always loved this song (shame it's so short...) and the video, it's great to see all the old Mk2 Cortinas, Triumph Dolomites, Vauxhall Viva's etc the lads run past, very evocative of a long gone time!
Don't kid yourself..The 80's were crap if you had no money!
It was a completely different country back then - it felt like we had more freedom even if we didn’t in reality.
Love this!!
Proof that even the best band in the country aren't immune from being made to look silly by video directors.
Paul couldn't run because he grew up sitting down with guitars.
Forever PW ! !
For me as an as yet unchurched convert to Jesus, this was the secular version of Since Jesus came into my Heart
one of the greats
Much Luv!!
Great bass as always.
Absolute Class !
saw these puppies do their last show on 'the tube' - wish they were still going
完璧にカッコいいポールウェラーが、まさかのタコ走り!
Amazing
That top Bucklers wearing rocks!
The jam. Influenced me.
man that keyboard outro!
Such an important band during that era.
..wicked tune!!......
loved the book love jam jam jam
Dennis Waterman doesn't get enough credit for his drumming skills
I'm ashamed to say I've never met anyone that knew The Jam.
Their problem. Not my problem, I guess... :)
