Graduated high school in 1983. Listened to bands like The Jam, Aztec Camera, Tears For Fears, Echo And The Bunnymen and this band among many others. This was one of my all time favorites. 57 now and I see the time in my face and can't believe how much time has passed. Friends passing, old relationships, thick dense memories still haunt me when I hear this song. I know in my heart we will all be ok. Many dear blessings all.
I'm with you; I graduated in '84 and hit 58 last February, this is always on my playlist when I'm in my car. If you're like me and listen to this on long drives, you might find yourself zoning back to your youth and forgetting where your going, so drive safe! 😄
I agree! Loved them in the early 80s, and still love the music now! However, I think that PWs reflections are not that positive? I always feel he is embarrassed by The Style Council? I could be completely wrong.
I remember going on an early morning bicycle ride in the mid-1980s while listening to this song on my Walkman. It was about 5:30am, still dark and not a car on the road. I put in 70 miles that day. This song takes me right back to that summer morning.

Looks like it was filmed on the avenue at Kentwell Hall, Long Melford, Suffolk. I have driven, ridden, and walked, along there many times in the last 40-odd years - and have even staggered along there in the opposite direction after closing time at The Hare, The Swan, and various other pubs.
This is surely one of the best songs ever. Partly it is knowing what Weller had done previously, but the tone, the tempo, the Jazz, the change from before, the trumpet, for people of a certain age it is a place in time.
Love this song so much and as time goes on, I realize the genius that is Paul Weller, especially at that time in the 80's when he was really going out on a limb with this style change from being in such an iconic punk band. Cheers PW and the Style Council!
I think the issue people have is that Style Council was such a radical departure from what The Jam were. What a lot of the "haters" don't understand is that Paul Weller has always been a fan of American RnB and soul. Even The Jam kind of started off that way and when punk exploded, they were influenced by it and went in that direction (at least in the beginning).
Their CAFE BLEU album in 1984 was one of my favorite albums, having so many good songs on it, especially THE PARIS MATCH featuring Everything But The Girl's Tracey Thorn & Ben Watt. Ahhh, the 80's.......
You have to remember Style Council were born out of The Jam and along with his solo career, proves Paul Weller was and still is one of the most influential musicians of all time
And a plagiarist.... Changing Man ripped off from Electric Light Orchestra "10538 Overture" and "Start!" ripped off The Beatles - Taxman. They aren't even subtle acknowledgments to the originals, just outright rip-offs
I am 58 (feel like I'm 21 again when I listen to these great tunes). Happy days, seems like yesterday- but can we agree....80s music saw some original, talented, fascinating and brilliant innovations in many music genres. Even Weller here, his involvement in post punk alt rock and softer melancholic stuff like this is an incredible tribute to him and his supporting musicians. Just a great time to be an appreciator of good talent, then and now, at my age.

Style Council is one of my favorite bands , I used to drive for UPS in CT there was a college new wave station WXCI and they played their music and I had a boom box on my truck and jammed all day..
I saw the Jam live in 1978, Weller's like a good vintage wine, he matures with age! The symphonic version of this song that he's just brought out is.. brilliant!
Daylight turns to moonlight, and I'm at my best Praising the way it all works and gazing upon the rest The cool before the warm, the calm after the storm Oh the cool before the warm, the calm after the storm I wish to stay forever, letting this be my food Oh but I'm caught up in a whirlwind and my ever changing moods Bitter turns to sugar, some call a passive tune But the day things turn sweet, for me won't be too soon The hush before the silence, the winds after the blast Oh the hush before the silence, the winds after the blast I wish we'd move together, this time the bosses sued Oh but we're caught up in the wilderness and an ever changing mood Teardrops turn to children, who've never had the time To commit the sins they pay for through, another's evil mind The love after the hate The love we leave too late The love after the hate, the love we leave too late I wish we'd wake up one day, and everyone feel moved Oh but we're caught up in the dailies and an ever changing mood Evil turns to statues, and masses form a line But I know which way I'd run to if the choice was mine The past is our knowledge, the present our mistake And the future we always leave too late I wish we'd come to our senses and see there is no truth, oh In those who promote the confusion for this ever changing mood, yeah I❤️you mr Weller
Wow, thank you so much for the lyrics!! Paul weller, what can you say... People are talented, and he is one of them. I appreciate his sensibility and his soul! A cool soul brother, from a white family, smile. Keep rocking paul, and I will keep buying....

Style Council is one of my favorite bands , I used to drive for UPS in CT there was a college new wave station WXCI and they played their music and I had a boom box on my truck and jammed all day..
This song makes my day, all the time......just love it❤️
Their best song .Long time no hear. We had such great music in those days
I saw the Jam live in 1978, Weller's like a good vintage wine, he matures with age! The symphonic version of this song that he's just brought out is.. brilliant!
Daylight turns to moonlight, and I'm at my best
Praising the way it all works and gazing upon the rest
The cool before the warm, the calm after the storm
Oh the cool before the warm, the calm after the storm
I wish to stay forever, letting this be my food
Oh but I'm caught up in a whirlwind and my ever changing moods
Bitter turns to sugar, some call a passive tune
But the day things turn sweet, for me won't be too soon
The hush before the silence, the winds after the blast
Oh the hush before the silence, the winds after the blast
I wish we'd move together, this time the bosses sued
Oh but we're caught up in the wilderness and an ever changing mood
Teardrops turn to children, who've never had the time
To commit the sins they pay for through, another's evil mind
The love after the hate
The love we leave too late
The love after the hate, the love we leave too late
I wish we'd wake up one day, and everyone feel moved
Oh but we're caught up in the dailies and an ever changing mood
Evil turns to statues, and masses form a line
But I know which way I'd run to if the choice was mine
The past is our knowledge, the present our mistake
And the future we always leave too late
I wish we'd come to our senses and see there is no truth, oh
In those who promote the confusion for this ever changing mood, yeah
I❤️you mr Weller
poignant & timeless
Wow, thank you so much for the lyrics!! Paul weller, what can you say... People are talented, and he is one of them. I appreciate his sensibility and his soul! A cool soul brother, from a white family, smile. Keep rocking paul, and I will keep buying....
Thanks!
Thanks for posting the lyrics. Been listening to this song for 40 years, but every time I hear it I start grooving too hard to pay attention to the lyrics.
This should be played in a massive speaker to mr putin
This video is so fun, my G d, i just love the lyrics, the way the music, horns, etc are put together, bike race between the 2 band members, so unique, happiness prevails with this band, everchanging moods, that applies to all of us, I'm the Queen of different moods, but watching and listening to this, makes me laugh, so joyful, so musical!! Terri Leckner, Montreal
Bought this record when I was 14 now I'm almost 50.Still a cracking tune.
This song is probably the epitome of what i love about music.

love this so much even though they seem to life the riff from the Classic IV's " Spooky " at the top...

I first heard this song on my college station a few days ago.
I though that it was a NEW song, not 40 years old.
But who cares? It's my new favourite song!
*thought
Absolutely 80,s loved Paul weller, great songs, takes me back when I was 16, thanks Paul
It’s 2022 and it’s always in my playlist. 👏⭐️🥳
The 70s and 80s music ...such good music and listening to this song brings it back . Paul Weller an amazing talent . It also shows that you don't need scantily clad women to make up for the lack of talent like in today's videos.
70 yrs young this week and still digging Style Council, first heard them while bartending at the Red Lobster. Had to buy CD!!!!
35 yrs later still as fresh as ever. Dang these songs bring me right back to those days.
Watched The Jam numerous times love then straight into the Style Council. These songs are still relevant today and to me they reflect my late teens and early twenties and the angst of the times.
I have loved Paul weller since the jam. He is a slightly underrated genius. And let’s not forget mick. Some of my most inspirational songs. Mans a bloody star 😍
He so fuckin is.
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
I brought this on twelve inch when it came out and loved it ever since.Paul Weller one of the most influential singer songwriters in British music.
Love him.
Great song !!!
