If this recording didn't exist our descendants wouldn't believe us when we tell them that The Jam were the best live band on the planet without exception.
they weren't
@@rerarder you clearly never saw them live.
3 times man,, glasgow apollo + dundee caird hall '79 +loch lomond festival '80 + going to see from the jam in january,, 👍👍 @@Suedehead68
Got to respect that - I only saw them twice and not necessarily what you might call their peak - 1981 in Hammersmith and three nights running at Wembley in December 1982.
good stuff man,, great band whatever @@Suedehead68 👍👍👍
3 people making that sound… nobody with that energy & power anymore… thank you Foxton Buckler & the other one..👍🏻
😂
Britain's had a few solid three piece bands over the years, its a tough one to pull off. The police did it, although a completely different vibe to the raw power of this trio.
“Foxston and the other two…” Gawd! You’re killing me! :))
@@Outdoorshuntingshooting spot on - and dont forget Motorhead had that energy as well from a 3 piece ( and drugs maybe !- RIP Lemmy you were a legend)
There are times at my time of life i look back and think WTF did i do with my life..but then some thing like this comes along and i have to smile, I celebrated my 18 birthday at this concert, and this brings all that joy and fun I had flooding back....BTW i was very very drunk at the time, so this is the first coherant version of this concert i have seen....sometimes its good to be old
Know what you mean. I often think WTF have I done with my life, but like most people who consider they've had ordinary lives, you realise your life is full of special memories of times where it just felt good to be alive. I ended up writing a small book, stories from my life, each associated with a particular record. :)
And yes, in some ways it feels good to be old.
A brilliant three piece band that sounded like a six piece band.
These guys are great listening even to this day on 1/28/2024 still better than any band out there to this day
simply awesome. Back in the day I was more into punk but love listening to The Jam now.
I remember when the first Jam exhibition was at Somerset House in London in 2015 . I turned the corner and this live set up was in front of me. Ricks white drum kit, Pauls all black Rickenbacker and Vox 125 heads with ported speakers ( i had the same set up in my band back then) and Bruce's Fender Precision and Marshalls. I was instantly transported back to 1980/81 , 18 years old, waiting for the guys to come on stage. Magical, i can live with being 61 because i got to see the Jam, the Clash, and so many great bands of energy and passion in England back then.
I had one of those Vox 125 heads - deafening!
I wasn’t even born when The Jam were around but that exhibition gave me a glimpse.
Thank fuck i grew up with The Jam ✊🏻
This is greatness.
if I had a Time Machine - this is where i'd have it take me.
Truth
The Eton Rifles makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and ups your heartbeat beyond euphoria.
Spot on , they were a great live band, sounds better than the studio version. More malice and intent
My work pal is in a band. We are both not young. I sang to him on teams (bear in mind I was in scotkand in 60s to 90s) "sup up yo pint and collect your fags. There's a row going on down near slough. Get out your mat and pray to the west
I'll get out mine and pray for myself". As a scots guy i moved down pompey way but worked in sluff for a bit. So great to see sluff and actually see what the lyrics talked about. B4 i moved dow here in the beautiful south I flew down to see my GF. The day "from the jam wwith Rik and Bruce played montrose town hall. I nearly didn't take that flight. But I came doiwn to see my English Rose
I was there great memories best band ever
I would have loved to be there.
The best band of all-time.
When bands earnt their keep. Seen them on their trans global express tour, only knew town called malice, blew me away, best live band to date
I was a French mod at that time saw them live in Paris fought against skinhead at Baltard Pavillon
Great quality thx
I just love how deep Weller's voice is here. No one and no band will ever come close.
One of the best British bands ever - just awesome
Raw energy
The best ratio energy/number of players ever measured…
Incomparable. The greatest experience of my life. When we were young & didn't even know it.
Best band ever. Saw them at Brighton 82. That feeling won't ever be forgotten. Lives inside me til i die.
Brilliant clip. What a time to be a teenager.
I was there 6 rows from front. Am 57 now & met Paul twice & talking with him about that gig. He remembers it fondly & loved coming to Newcastle. 👍🏆
Great performance to see, Good quality backing vocals can easily be underestimated, great video.
They were and always will be pure quality. Nothing has come close since

I was at this concert at the city hall in Newcastle, what a fantastic night ,i watched many great bands in this wonderful venue 👍👍👍
Foxton is fucking awesome...
He's incredible. His lines are all excellent and he doesn't seem to ever make mistakes. His bass (well the whole band really) pumps adrenaline on Eton Rifles.
A perfectionist.. Playing (at times) some complicated lines, dancing and singing.. Never f@cks up.
100% truth. His back up vocals are peerless. And then there is his thunder broom. What a class act.
The best band of all time class act weller and mod father love him British icon
I was there
People dont realise how young the audience was at a Jam gig probably 11 to 20 ...We gen xers hd the greatest era of music 😊
Fuck me I've just gone back in time. Legend.
the best mod band in modern history ,maybe ,long live quadrophenia
Wasn't Mod already dead by 1980? That was more of a '60's thing wasn't it?
@@onusgumboot5565 hence mod revival, led by the jam
The power …the power .
Brilliant !
Fecking WOW!!!!
Watching this I can honestly say this is about all I care about now...
One of the best bands ever!
They. Are. Beautiful.
I been listening since i was 13, i had in the city in 1978, i bought every single ans album import version here in Australia, if i couldnt afford to buy i shoplifted them haha. every album just got better...hard to believe they broke up. I still listen to Weller, his album this year "66" was brilliant...but this era of the jam was special...this concert proves why we all love em.
Insane set, just brilliant
there are no words
Saw the jam many times. was at the city hall both nights on this tour I was 15 blew my mind ! Just saw Weller two nights at the city hall last month still blows my mind at 59.He was brilliant.
Im 60 olds
Thank you from Osaka!
Saw them in the city hall in 1978. It was powerful. Pure talent and shattering noise. Never seen anything like it.
Fantastic quality and showcases just how brilliant the jam were. Thanks for posting.
shspewow, great performance a trio with energy and passion, just awesome. I'm glad to have been a part of this in my youth 😊
Can’t believe this has been filmed and uploaded 😮 my first ever gig at 15 years old. Absolute class
That was your first gig? You were 5 years older than me. I loved and loved The Jam. Some first gig my friend.
Great set. The Jam were in their pomp here. What a band!! Big fan since back in the day Setting sons is their best/ for me‼️followed by Sound Affects. Love all the albums though.
The DRUMMING! 👌👌👌
That bass ………😮😊
I would give a finger, or two, to have seen them play live. fucking masters
I was at that gig it was brilliant they sound great
Best British band of all time for me 👌🇬🇧 as the old saying i goes i wished I'd known these were the good old days when i was in them 😅
Saw them twice in 82 at Bingley Hall ,what is impressive about the jam live ,was 2 guitar's and a drummer filled the stage with sound, like nothing else ,seeing them live and how they sounded is still the most impressive live act ,ive seen and im nearly 60,this upload is just brilliant
Excellent quality.
BRILLIANT OLD SKOOL GIGS IM 61 WE ARE THE MODS
The best band in the feckin world
Fire & Skill 🎤🥁🎸💥
Yes indeed seen them in Dublin 1978 all Mod Cons tour ! Never forget it the pure energy that they had !
John Lydon once said. Nothing wrong with copying just make it your own. The Jam did this perfectly! With respect to the who this is magnificent
Im fifteen again.
Kicks the shit out of stuff that calls itself music nowadays.
Didnt we have a nice time.
First year at Sunderland Poly. First trip to City Hall. Great night.
Wow what a great band
Listen to bruces bass sounds insane
was just going to comment the same, his sound is amazing, he has such a good groove
@@MrWidestripes u have good taste mate
His sound and basslines, along with The Stranglers JJ Burnell, were the reason I started playing bass. 40+ years later and watching this again takes me right back to clumsily trying to learn all The Jam's songs!
Sound Affects by The Jam is one of my all time favorite albums!
Here ya pal , seen them live in Dublin 1978 All Mod Cons Tour ! Never forget it ! Great days ! Living in New York now .
WOW WOW WOW
Power trio with social consciousness, The Jam were the band we needed, Britain needed. Unfortunately they weren’t enough on their own. Look what we have become. 🇦🇺🤘🎸🦘😢
You say this with an Australian flag mmm...🇬🇧
They weren't on their own. The Clash and many other groups had strong social consciousness. God Save the Queen, a fascist regime, she ain't no human being, etc.

Love👍
Merveilleux ! Splendide !
Brilliant
Now that's a gig! Best band in the world ever!
Seen them a Middlesbrough Town Hall in 77, Newcastle City Hall 78 , and Leeds Queens Hall but cannot remember the year , that’s what being nearly 66 does to you !!. Great days oh to be back in those with my whole life ahead of me !!!
I'd swap 82% of the concerts i've seen for for this 1 gig..there's never a dull moment when Bruce Foxton is on full steam ahead
In 1982 , we went from school to see em. Liverpool Royal Court Theatre.
Once again, brilliant quality, outstanding work.
Tight as a gnats chuff!
Saw these guys on my 19th bday. I was standing on the armrests of the front row seats at the Warfield theatre in San Francisco looking Paul Weller in the eye the entire show. It was life changing.
Vox, Marshall, Rickenbacker, Fender & Premier.... Classic combo👍🏼
Hello from Canada, thank you very much for uploading this. The Jam was one of my favorite bands as a teenager. 👋🇨🇦🇨🇦
Pure energy. Sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing!
England 1980 - that country doesn´t exist anymore....
Changed by the box in the corner of your room.

Superb 👏👏👏👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When music was actually played live
And it isn't now? Are you saying ALL bands nowadays, mime?
Love it
Weller is the Mod God‼︎
Superb
Thanx !!!
A slight shame about the overly exuberant editing, but otherwise a great document of the band at or near the height of their considerable powers. Thanks for the upload!
This was 1980. My neighbour was the editor. He told me he wanted to capture what people would see at the concert. Switching fro each member.
Nice agree
