If this recording didn't exist our descendants wouldn't believe us when we tell them that The Jam were the best live band on the planet without exception.
they weren't
@@rerarder you clearly never saw them live.
3 times man,, glasgow apollo + dundee caird hall '79 +loch lomond festival '80 + going to see from the jam in january,, 👍👍 @@Suedehead68
Got to respect that - I only saw them twice and not necessarily what you might call their peak - 1981 in Hammersmith and three nights running at Wembley in December 1982.
good stuff man,, great band whatever @@Suedehead68 👍👍👍
3 people making that sound… nobody with that energy & power anymore… thank you Foxton Buckler & the other one..👍🏻
😂
I been listening since i was 13, i had in the city in 1978, i bought every single ans album import version here in Australia, if i couldnt afford to buy i shoplifted them haha. every album just got better...hard to believe they broke up. I still listen to Weller, his album this year "66" was brilliant...but this era of the jam was special...this concert proves why we all love em.
England 1980 - that country doesn´t exist anymore....
Changed by the box in the corner of your room.
The waterboys told us about
@@quogir1if people don't children, want to live like teenagers all their lifes, shit will happen
sadly, nor does that world...
because it's the country that didn't care no more.....
I remember when the first Jam exhibition was at Somerset House in London in 2015 . I turned the corner and this live set up was in front of me. Ricks white drum kit, Pauls all black Rickenbacker and Vox 125 heads with ported speakers ( i had the same set up in my band back then) and Bruce's Fender Precision and Marshalls. I was instantly transported back to 1980/81 , 18 years old, waiting for the guys to come on stage. Magical, i can live with being 61 because i got to see the Jam, the Clash, and so many great bands of energy and passion in England back then.
I had one of those Vox 125 heads - deafening!
Power trio with social consciousness, The Jam were the band we needed, Britain needed. Unfortunately they weren’t enough on their own. Look what we have become. 🇦🇺🤘🎸🦘😢
One of the best British bands ever - just awesome
Here ya pal , seen them live in Dublin 1978 All Mod Cons Tour ! Never forget it ! Great days ! Living in New York now .
Can’t believe this has been filmed and uploaded 😮 my first ever gig at 15 years old. Absolute class
That was your first gig? You were 5 years older than me. I loved and loved The Jam. Some first gig my friend.

Best band ever. Saw them at Brighton 82. That feeling won't ever be forgotten. Lives inside me til i die.
I was a French mod at that time saw them live in Paris fought against skinhead at Baltard Pavillon
Great quality thx
These guys are great listening even to this day on 1/28/2024 still better than any band out there to this day
I was at this concert at the city hall in Newcastle, what a fantastic night ,i watched many great bands in this wonderful venue 👍👍👍
Incomparable. The greatest experience of my life. When we were young & didn't even know it.
The Eton Rifles makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and ups your heartbeat beyond euphoria.
Spot on , they were a great live band, sounds better than the studio version. More malice and intent
My work pal is in a band. We are both not young. I sang to him on teams (bear in mind I was in scotkand in 60s to 90s) "sup up yo pint and collect your fags. There's a row going on down near slough. Get out your mat and pray to the west
I'll get out mine and pray for myself". As a scots guy i moved down pompey way but worked in sluff for a bit. So great to see sluff and actually see what the lyrics talked about. B4 i moved dow here in the beautiful south I flew down to see my GF. The day "from the jam wwith Rik and Bruce played montrose town hall. I nearly didn't take that flight. But I came doiwn to see my English Rose
Saw them in the city hall in 1978. It was powerful. Pure talent and shattering noise. Never seen anything like it.
This is greatness.
One of the best bands ever!
Fecking WOW!!!!
First year at Sunderland Poly. First trip to City Hall. Great night.
Great set. The Jam were in their pomp here. What a band!! Big fan since back in the day Setting sons is their best/ for me‼️followed by Sound Affects. Love all the albums though.
if I had a Time Machine - this is where i'd have it take me.
I was there great memories best band ever
I would have loved to be there.
The best band of all-time.
simply awesome. Back in the day I was more into punk but love listening to The Jam now.
The power …the power .
Brilliant !
Insane set, just brilliant
Watching this I can honestly say this is about all I care about now...
There are times at my time of life i look back and think WTF did i do with my life..but then some thing like this comes along and i have to smile, I celebrated my 18 birthday at this concert, and this brings all that joy and fun I had flooding back....BTW i was very very drunk at the time, so this is the first coherant version of this concert i have seen....sometimes its good to be old
Raw energy
When bands earnt their keep. Seen them on their trans global express tour, only knew town called malice, blew me away, best live band to date
The best band of all time class act weller and mod father love him British icon
Saw these guys on my 19th bday. I was standing on the armrests of the front row seats at the Warfield theatre in San Francisco looking Paul Weller in the eye the entire show. It was life changing.
Great performance to see, Good quality backing vocals can easily be underestimated, great video.
They were and always will be pure quality. Nothing has come close since
Foxton is fucking awesome...
He's incredible. His lines are all excellent and he doesn't seem to ever make mistakes. His bass (well the whole band really) pumps adrenaline on Eton Rifles.
A perfectionist.. Playing (at times) some complicated lines, dancing and singing.. Never f@cks up.
Excellent quality.
Best British band of all time for me 👌🇬🇧 as the old saying i goes i wished I'd known these were the good old days when i was in them 😅
Fuck me I've just gone back in time. Legend.
They. Are. Beautiful.
Fantastic quality and showcases just how brilliant the jam were. Thanks for posting.
the best mod band in modern history ,maybe ,long live quadrophenia
Wasn't Mod already dead by 1980? That was more of a '60's thing wasn't it?
@@onusgumboot5565 hence mod revival, led by the jam
Thank you from Osaka!
there are no words
I was there
Vox, Marshall, Rickenbacker, Fender & Premier.... Classic combo👍🏼
Listen to bruces bass sounds insane
was just going to comment the same, his sound is amazing, he has such a good groove
@@MrWidestripes u have good taste mate
His sound and basslines, along with The Stranglers JJ Burnell, were the reason I started playing bass. 40+ years later and watching this again takes me right back to clumsily trying to learn all The Jam's songs!
Merveilleux ! Splendide !
I would give a finger, or two, to have seen them play live. fucking masters
Pure energy. Sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Hello from Canada, thank you very much for uploading this. The Jam was one of my favorite bands as a teenager. 👋🇨🇦🇨🇦
I'd swap 82% of the concerts i've seen for for this 1 gig..there's never a dull moment when Bruce Foxton is on full steam ahead
The best ratio energy/number of players ever measured…
Wow what a great band
Once again, brilliant quality, outstanding work.
Brilliant
When music was actually played live
And it isn't now? Are you saying ALL bands nowadays, mime?
eton rifles
god save the queen
london calling
Weller is the Mod God‼︎
Just ACE!
WOW WOW WOW
Thank fuck i grew up with The Jam ✊🏻
100% energy
Love👍
Superb 👏👏👏👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nice shirt on weller🎉
I think is a Ben Sherman mod fit
That bass ………😮😊
A slight shame about the overly exuberant editing, but otherwise a great document of the band at or near the height of their considerable powers. Thanks for the upload!
This was 1980. My neighbour was the editor. He told me he wanted to capture what people would see at the concert. Switching fro each member.
Going Underground is brilliant1
would loved to have been there, didn't start going to the city hall until 1981. I bet the sound from that back line of Marshall's would have been epic. The don't do it like that now, bland digital modeller into the desk
Superb
Bruce Foxton is Bass god . Him , Andy Rourke , JJB , Macca . We were very very lucky to have them
Blistering!!!
Thanx !!!
Can you do "Here's a New Thing" live performance Paul Weller Brixton 1991?
Melanddi shirt from Carnaby Street
👍👍
Beats all that over produced stadium shit. Raw music at its best
was there and prev year
Bet those in the audience pricking about with cameras wish they'd concentrated on enjoying the gig then watched this professional recording afterwards.
The whole concert deserves to be on DVD! Does somebody know if this was recorded to be released on DVD?
THE JAM AT THEIR PEAK 👍🇬🇧 GREAT ANTI THATCHER ANTHEM!!
If it weren't for Thatcher you'd be a Communist. In fact I think you are.
De la pop
No.mobilphones in sight, only shaking heads...
2:35 A camera! Amazing
Well it was the 70s...
In it
Shit hot, I got some work to do on my bass playing.
A brilliant three piece band that sounded like a six piece band.
Speed is an under rated drug . Just saying .
Gracias por subir este concierto....vaya grupazo .... SUENAN DE PUTA MADRE.
What Oasis never were
Mod for it
I had the time.of my life at a jam got beaten up and snagged the barmaid
no fucking way
Enoch Powell (I'm French...)
He wishes he could be like Ray Davies
And?? Nothing wrong with that and Weller is a legend in his own right. I love the Kink and I love the Jam.
And you wish you could be someone of some importance, when in fact, you're just someone who gets kicked everyday.
And Ray Davis wishes he could have been John lennon😂😂😂. What a ridiculous comment comparing 2 legends. I'm sure Ray Davis rates weller as high as weller rates Davis
Foxtons bass playing is flawless
The Jam...just another punk/grunge band. Nirvana was better.
pffft aren't they heavy metal with one good song?
Grunge? For somebody with a handle so desperately trying to convey music knowledge that's a pretty embarrassing comment.
@@robin_holden but you gotta admit it Nirvana was bigger than the Jam... people still talk about Kurt Cobain until today...I doubt if they will do the same with Paul Weller...NIRVANA is even bigger than Pearl Jam or Soundgarden
@@theloniouscoltrane3778I’m just going to assume you’re being deliberately dim for kicks. Have fun.
Keep sniffing the glue !
Sound Affects by The Jam is one of my all time favorite albums!
20:42 the best band in the fucking world
Weller we love but Foxton absolutely runs riot throughout as if playing "lead bass"
