It's Rico Rodriguez. He's pretty legendary and I feel that his work with The Specials got quite well credited. At the time the band was having a string of hits, I'm pretty certain that anyone following their music in the UK, at least, would have known his name.
He went to Buckingham Palace and got a gong for his contribution to British music, which is pretty good going for someone who’s actually from Jamaica and who played trombone on the original recording of this song in the 1960s.. Not many Brits getting awards from the Jamaicans.. He got plenty of credit..

From Russia with love. In the post-Soviet space, especially in the 2000s, popular performers playing quasi-ska and reggae, most similar to 2-Tone, were pleased. I feel like sharing my knowledge with you today: for those who do not know the story already, the "rudy" of this song is not a person. In fact, it refers to the slang term "rude boy" (rude boy-rudie-rudy) that originated in Jamaica in the early '60 to define an individual who belongs to a specific sub-culture where ska and rocksteady are the main musical genres. As you can imagine, the term "rude" refers to the not exactly in-line-with-the-law lifestyle they had: "better think of your future" "else you'll wind up in jail" in the lyrics clearly refers to that. So sad. Music. Integrity. This man did a lot for race relations. Youth culture. Education. So much more than a singer. Love love love.
Such a lovely guy. So sad to think he's no longer with us. He really seemed like the type of guy you'd like to meet in person.
No argument there. I was in my early teens in the first stages of senior school and beinging to explore my musical tastes. This was very big R.I.P. Terry Hall .
All you need is love! 👍
RIP Terry, a massive influence on my musical taste and fashion in the early Eighties. Will live forever in our hearts.
This song brings tears to my eyes every time . It was played at Keith flints funeral at the end. It has a lot more meaning now more than ever😭. R.I.P mate🐜

Mr. Hall. You and The Specials are part of my musical life. I have danced to your music for over 4 decades, and the sounds are timeless/ so relevant. RIEP. Sleep well.

Rudy ! Hold out hope, this is kinda of our only run at this gig! You mean something, and many are with you, they/we just don’t say it…
yes but I think the meaning is "Rudie" as in "Rude Boy"...
It's not Rudy, it's Rudi Rude boy!
Rip Terry Hall 😢 another legend gone too soon my thoughts are with your family and friends at a sad time 💜💜💜😢😢
Soundtrack to my youth. Thank you Terry legend doesn't cover it. My thoughts are with your family RIP legend!!!
This is beautiful in many ways. Black and white sharing their love for the music. Love it
Finally saw them 2 years ago. It was all my 13yr old would have wanted and more. Thank you Specials.
This has broken me. What a terrible loss to the world. Terry Hall...all the love 🖤
I'm back at UC Santa Barbara listening to the Specials and the English Beat in 1982. Thank you Terry Hall for the
great memories.
I wish I could have sent this to my big brother Rudy before passing away in jail.. Miss you big brother.. your carnalito will continue to make you proud!
The sound of Coventry. I'm a Cov kid, grew up surrounded by this music. Also worth mentioning The Wild Boys. Another great Cov band who really deserved to have 'made it'...Now who fancies a snake bight in the Dog & Trumpet...?
Get em in son 👍
Love a Snake Bite, or a Snake Bite and Black. Wobbly knees after. Found that out in the Army
Me too. Remember seeing some of these guys around the City.
2 years ago today Keith Flint took his life, this one of his favourite tunes, played out the PA system at Keiths funeral at St Marys church Bocking 29th April 2019.
RIP Keith Charles Flint.
Awwww bless him
Saw these guys live on a company weekend somewhere in the 90's. A very magical and fun weekend.

A trombone solo in a pop song. The first and last time. And SO well done. Perfect glissando.
I disagree. Google 'pop songs with trombone solos' and you'll be pleasantly surprised :)
what a masterpiece and a treasure, the specials are truly one of the best bands in music history, and this song is perfect in every way, shape, and form
you do know its a cover

To me this is one of the most underrated bands that ever formed they need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because the two-tone era is one of the most overlooked music genres ever RIP Bradbery and mr. Rico.
Tengo 53 años y he descubierto a este grupo recientemente, este video me parece magia pura.
Oh no...sorry to hear that. RIP Terry. Loved Specials, Fun Boy Three, Colourfield...xx
Terry Hall. A true artist. RIP.
There’s just something about this tune - can’t put my finger on it. It’s simple but brilliantly simple!
Have you heard the original Robert? It’s awesome 👍🏽 th-cam.com/video/7BwNgQ51hSI/w-d-xo.html
