The Flagship Phone for Budget Prices - LG V60 ThinQ 5G - Worth it in 2023? (Real World Review)

  • Today I will be reviewing the LG V60 ThinQ 5G, the last flagship phone that LG actually made. All this phone for under $200, what's the catch?
Note, I didn't mention the Pen support and Dual Screen. The dual screen is way too much, just get a Fold2/3 at that price. The Pen is debatable though, and I will post links to buy a pen for the V60 below.

I went from an V20 to aV40 to a V60. Still have all of these phones in perfect condition. Honestly not sure what I will do once I am forced to upgrade I've totally gotten every penny I invested into my LGV60. Everyone always complements my photos as an added bonus.

I'm in a similar situation. LG ended on a very bad note considering all the problems with the v60. All of mine have had problems. For me there's no other option for a good wired audio experience. Sony makes the next best phones for audio and they can't put out much power at all. I hope a company makes a phone that has great audio performance soon.

@@za4310 I've been considering sony as well. I had an Xperia before I got the V20 and loved it. The only problem I have is that from what I am reading Sony only gives you about 3 years of upgrade support. For a $2400 phone I think they need to do much better before I can part with that kinda cash. That's rent money!! (lol)

LG flagships still absolutely Blow Away any current device in the audio department. When you combine the quad DAC with those insane microphones and the manual support in the cameras it's a different ballgame. Nevermind expandable storage. The Raw capabilities are simply a bonus. If you have a vehicle with an auxiliary 3.5 Port that quad DAC generates a whole different experience

Absolutely! I'm about to re-buy LG G8, I'll try and get two, before they're gone forever. Why? I've learned that though newer in numerical sequence the Quad DaC in V60 is, it's actually an undercut version of the one in the G8 that lacks some features the fully equipped G8 version has. It's going to be my main on the go audiophile device for music for a looong time to come.

The best part is that it received Android 13 (T-Mobile) , has the Quad DAC headphone jack (try it with some quality wired headphones) and the dual screen accessory (a multitasking beast). I've expanded mine to 1tb)... the Huawei or Bamboo pen work really well so kudos for pen support and DEX. Those are the reasons why you buy one (I just finished paying off my carrier). The screen was that resolution to have identical screens for the dual display that don't chew battery. Fingerprint scanner and camera improved significantly with Android 13. Just got android 13 today. This phone is still the best value as far as phones. And much more qualified reviewers gave complemented LGs cameras for giving photographers and editors a nice raw product to work with. And the DAC pretty much puts it in a class of its own. And that's before we even mention the dual screen capability, which is more valuable than 120 hz refresh rate. Don't like the UI, then put Nova launcher on it and make it your own. Three years later and I personally cannot justify buying another phone. Battery life is still good and the water resistance is still solid. It just won't quit. It's built so well that after 3 years it's still immaculate. A Galaxy or an iPhone or a Pixel would have degraded after three years of constant use. But not this.

My LG G8 was defective and LG replaced it with a new V60. Have had it for 3 years and it's been perfect.
I use my phone hard. I often charge my phone to 100%, use it plugged-in and the battery life is still superb. I purchased a genuine OEM LG BL-T46 battery for $22, and a USB-C port/board/ribbon for $21...just in case. Installation will cost about $70 when the time comes. That's how much I love this phone.
The 865 processor stays cool, never overheats, and is fast. I'm not a gamer so it's just fine for me. The 32-bit Hi-Fi QuadDAC is outrageous. If you use wired headphones, the difference in sound quality is night and day. Oh, good luck trying to find a flagship today with a 3.5mm jack and expandable storage...unless you want to spend $1,000+ on a Sony Xperia.
Barring damage, I can easily see using the LG V60 for another 5 years. It's at Android 13 now, so that should be it in terms of updates, although I expect security patches for another 2 years.

Just bought a lg v60 sealed in the box from Korea. I had the v 20, the v 30, and many blue moons ago. For the quad dacs, so folks, my plan now, as soon as they arrive is to ride off into the sunset on my pygmy pony and a pair of Bowers & Wilkins p7, singing along to my favorite songs till the quad dacs fall out and give their last ones and zeros (sniff). @The Xhosa Kingdom No, I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear, I bought it on Ebay from a supplier from China, I imagine he bought a lot of brand new ones in the boxes in a lot. Now, my friend, I paid $256 because it's not only brand new in the box sealed and its a flagship phone with a quad dac, and I needed to find a phone with the IMEI # shown. I bought a phone before and they advertised " T- mobile phone " but when I took it to T-mobile to be activated, they informed me it was blocked and nothing else could be done by them. I think that's a fair price for a new phone. Remember, find the phones with a picture taken with the sticker showing IMEI number. THEN call customer service of your carrier. T-mobile customer service was extremely helpful after the new rep. got his ducks in a row and looked up the number and informed me that the number was good, but I was going to have to go into settings change it from Korean to English for my use and purpose. Truth be known, I'm not computer literate, and every time I try to go exploring in my phone settings, something goes wrong, and I'm calling my daughter for a dad in need. I'm old enough now to know, like Clint Eastwood character Dirty Harry told the bad guy, " A man's got to know his limitations" And my friend, computers, smartphones, etc.etc. lol is mine. The best to you and your family and enjoy that quad dac when you get your LG.

I have the LG V60...but I got the S22 Ultra back in March 2022...As of February 2023 I decided to move back to my old LG v60 for a few reasons...
    1. The LG V60 still has better battery life, I get consistent 8-9 hours screen on time. Compared to the s22 Ultra that gives me 5-6 hours, and thats on FHD+ and 60hz setting.
    2. I still prefer photos taken on the V60. The S22 Ultra have to much saturation in colors and dont have Ultra Wide Correction. Also shutter lag on the S22 Ultra is anoying and its an expensive phone to have that problem.
    3. The V60 still has more powerful speakers compared to the weaker s22 Ultra.
    4. I got a 1TB Sandisk Ultra Pro SD card for cheap that I put in my V60.
But using the s22 Ultra for about 11 months then jumping back to the V60, I actually like the more natural colors on the V60. And going down from 1440p screen to a 1080p screen isn't really noticeable to me.
So heck yeah...the LG V60 is totally worth it!!!

I love this phone BUT the charge port is glitching. You have to giggle the USB cord at the port to get it to work. I tried to buy another gently used V60 to replace but there were a ton of reviews complaining about the charge port. It's a great phone for 2.5 years but eventually the charge port may malfunction.

It will become pointless?! You think because software updates stop a phone is dead? Well, it's not. I will probably use my V60 for years to come. I think the cameras are pretty nice. The time of flight camera is used for portrait mode. Think of it as an advanced depth sensor. Also, I have a 120 hertz phone. While this phone doesn't feel quite that smooth, it seems like a 90 hertz phone to me because of how fluid things move. I think with this phone, you just don't get it. You have a bar of gold in your possession.

With all that room to spare, it kind of pisses me off that LG didn't position those speakers symmetrically so they give out a properly balanced stereo sound, like a lot of MFG's make their phones. Like I believe they did with the Velvet, which is a thing of beauty, to have left and right channel speakers facing you. With such an enormous and long screen, the stereo separation would have been SUPERB and the sound stage, even 3D effects would have sounded AMAZING! But no, they didn't. Mind you, V60 is to date the MOST high end tech for the money, by FAR. It tops my list with the best yet Quad DaC, insane battery life, camera still holds its own against even the latest what iPhone, Samsung, Pixel, etc have to offer, it actually has FULL ACTIVE STYLUS SUPPORT and a array of stylus tools and functions similar to Samsung Note, which totally justifies the huge screen imo, has the MIL 810G rating for durability (I don't expect it to not shatter as easily as any other GLASS phone lol, but it does perform WASTLY better in sub zero/high temps that affect most other phones to a greater extent especially in sub zero temps), has SD card support naturally, which is CRUCIAL if you're truly going to use that amazing camera often, especially for 4K@60, 8K@30 video, etc. I'm so babbly, that's because I'm definitely going to get this monster phone. The least like thing about it to me is the design, its quite gastly looking.
