LG V60 Retrospective: More Than a Typical Slab Phone

- The #LG V60 was LG's final flagship smartphone. While it didn't exactly astound any reviewers or save LG's smartphone business, its thoughtful design paired with an interesting case that doubles as a second screen make it more than interesting for anyone interested in #emulation on #Android.

Small update:
If anyone's considering getting an LG V60 for gaming and looking for a controller, the Bluetooth GameSir G8+ comfortably fits over the dual screen case. I recently bought one for a different phone and was thrilled when it didn't break a sweat stretching that wide.

But yeah man...RIP, when I had the LG I really felt life's good...life was good 😢 this phone was a portal, I made so much art, graphic design, working across both screens was life changing. with such a good battery/signal strength i got out of many jams, parties and locations that other phones wont working, especially during festivals, i always had full bars while iphone people couldnt even get an Uber. Outliving all my friends, shocked when I still had 80% at the end of the night. LG was really a competitor but people didn't see the vision. LG wing ruined their reputation :/
I still have my V60 and it still is my favorite phone. My daily driver is a Pixel 8a but for multimedia the V60 is my go to. The QuacDAC is fantastic and I have a ton of lossless music on the microSD card. The humongous screen is great for watching movies and surfing TH-cam. The Pixel just received the update fir USB-C to HDMI while I had this almost 5 years ago on the V60. I wish LG still made phones.
This is probably my favorite phone of the modern era. It has a desktop mode come support stylist from walcom second gen. Has the kind of internals to make something like $150 btr7 or ifi go blu redundamt. In fact it's worth it even if you never plan on putting a sim card in it.
Just had my LGv20 die on my a couple days ago...
Decided to go with a v60, hope it works out.
I bought the V50 because of its pogo pin. Despite the uneven screen from the Dual Screen case, I always love using it. Coming from foldable phone, I can easily attest that dual display is far more practical than foldable phone. The fact that I don't have to worry about split screen incompatibility and use any two apps simultaneously without any issue totally wins me.
9:02 There is a three finger swipe gesture to slide apps over to the other screen. There are a few different gestures to get better use of the dual screen. I had this phone twice and thinking about buying it again 😆.
At 9:00, there is a shortcut to do what you're describing. If you drag three fingers towards the other screen it'll throw the app to the other side without needing to use the floating button to do it
Man, it would be cool if someone made a case like this for other phones. It would flagships considerably more portable.
I totally agree. There's a ton of ultility to having a second screen for basic productivity. Combine that with something already solid, like an S24 Ultra or Pixel 8 Pro, and I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Yeah I wish Samsung went in this direction instead of these plastic foldable OLE d's.
Technically you can modify this screen to work with other phones with hdmi out. Just that it will either mirror the display or launch desktop mode since it will instead recognise it as a hdmi display.
@@GameXDataI totally agree! I wish LG would either license this tech, or make third party dual screen cases for popular Android phones like the ones you mentioned. It would finally give me an opportunity to move on to something new. I was planning to settle for the 2nd Gen Pixel Fold, but Google deciding to change the screen aspect ratio by moving to an aspect ratio more like Samsung and less like the Microsoft Surface Duo has completely ruled out that device for me! I mean, if it's going to look just like a Samsung Fold, then why wouldn't I just get a Samsung and gain pen support? Although, I still hate Samsung's bloated UI, so I'll just keep using my v60 until someone decides to make the right phone for me...
@@solanumtuberosaI get your point, but this kind of case lets you have a second screen on the go.
This was exactly the kind of review I was looking for for this device, nice job hitting all the relevant points
I got a Samsung ultra but it's uninspired compared to my old v60 which I've gone back to.
For audio the v60 is superb - 3.5mm headphone socket with ess sabre quad dac to drive headphones, Aptx, SD card slot. Detachable second screen is brilliant.
Still using an lg g8x. When the time comes to move on I'll likely just get a used v60
Install windows on it
@@solanumtuberosa I can't really mess with mine. It's the AT&T model and it's somewhat locked down. I do use winlator on it and it works well enough.
@@solanumtuberosa Hi please how can someone install windows on LG G8x ?
I am happy owner of the Global Version (LGV600EA) that was bought second hand from original buyer, not a "refurb" chinese sht. Works like a charm and I can still make almost 10h SOT (single screen)
Is that a *_BUSTED CRATES_* logo I see?! Lol Mine was just delivered TODAY and I can't believe how quick it came nor the pristine condition that came in for less than 50 bucks! Anyway, that reminds me, I should go leave some feedback lol, thanks for the vid and keep up the good work!
Best series of smartphones ever...v 40 and v 60 are badass
More LG content please
The best part of this is the repurposing of old tech. Bloody brilliant.
Tbh the device is still too good to be called old tech. 865, 5g support, hdmi out, under display fp, nfc and wireless charging.
Its still even better than most modern offerings.
Calling this LG V60 an old tech, make me who's still using LG G7 (LG V40 equivalent) feel like using a dinosaur.
@@imamwahyudi4259 Five generations behind in terms of an SOC and the company itself exited the cell phone market - that's old Tech. Sorry, at my age, I have the luxury of calling them as I see them.
@@solanumtuberosa865 is still plenty powerful for average consumers.
gonna try to find a controller that can clip onto this with the Dualscreen so i got an ultra emulationary device or somethin lol
Whale browser can do the "open link in 2nd screen" thing. Still not as smooth as it could be.
I rather carry a controller than use the touch screen, by the way, you can unlatch the gamesir x2, its easy and requires no modification
I stunted on every iPhone user when I pulled this joint out! Now im Currently using the fold to shit apples on iPhone users!!!💩🍎💩🍎😂
Why is nobody implementing this? This is better than the foldable screens. Why? Because I like the idea that I can use, say, a universal display-case, on any smartphone with the same screen size. If they can make this as stand alone universal display-case, we may not need a foldable screen. This is basically like a monitor extension of a pc monitor.
The overarching problem is that universal cases are very difficult to create, and it'd be even more difficult to make a case with a display that'd be comfortable to use. Not to mention, a lot of software work is needed to make multi display Android devices practical. Barring a huge leap forward in tech, we're likely still a few generations of dual screen Android development away from a more universal solution.
With that in mind, nothing's stopping you from mounting a display to your phone for something like DS emulation or portable Dex. Here's a Short I made demonstrating that with some gear from Mechanism: th-cam.com/users/shorts73W1sElUKhc?feature=share
Thannks for your insight. But I still hope for this technology to pursue. It can be cheaper and more practical tham the current foldables.
I’ve got an idea a new iPhone plastic phone that lets you play all apps retro’s etc with a extra screen as well like iPhone 5c but better
To be honest, I'm not sure how great that'd be. iPhones aren't great for emulation at the moment, and their lackluster support for external displays doesn't give me a ton of confidence about dual screen support.
Is there a video for using Tasker for the widemode lg app wit the quick key?
Unfortunately not, I kinda just stumbled around random Reddit threads until I found a solution. Though, if it helps at all, here's a description of what my Tasker shortcut looks like:
Event: Logcat Entry
Component: WindowManager
Filter: InterceptKeyTq keycode=165 down-true injected=false mDisplayState=2 interactive=true keyguardActive=false flags=0x8 policyFlags=22000001
Task: Toggle
Description: Switch Wide Mode Configuration Turn On
@@GameXData Thank you. I really appreciate this!
u can flip apps from one screen to another 3 finger swipe that should help u
It honestly doesn't. Since the phone still interprets a three-finger swipe as a standard swipe, swiping left or right leads to a lot of unwanted input while moving apps. On top of the gesture itself being fairly unintuitive, I'd rarely use want to use the gesture for most apps.
@@GameXData I'm thinking you have a defective unit honestly it's as smooth as Tony Stark taking over all the screens in the courthouse scene in Iron Man are you taking three fingers and swiping from the left screen to the right and from the right screen to the left maybe some of those programs that you have modifying the system are interfering with the gestures or you have the sensitivity up too high for the back and forward gestures my unit Works beautifully in the next few days I will take a video and send it I would love to see what it's doing on your unit as well
By the way I love your content and have subscribed that's why I was so disappointed I'm surprised when you had that experience with one of absolutely the coolest functions of the phone because it's not like a foldable it's like a computer multi monitor setup
The g8x/v50 is better for one reason. It can boot windows.
Hi please how can someone boot windows on g8x ?
personally, the touchscreen controls are THE problem for me... It's really cool nonetheless lol
Lg ❤
Gamesir *did* just make a BT controller for tablets, the Gamesir X2s. It's very recent
There's also the BSP controllers. D3, D8 and D9
Is there a Bluetooth version of the X2S? I've only seen a type-C model so far.
@@GameXData Oh, my bad actually, I got confused. There is a Bluetooth version coming out for the X2S, but it hasn't been released yet. So I guess we have to wait until then.
Personally I'm more interested in the BSP D9 one, because it has ergonomic grips.
Ah, that make sense. I actually wrote the line about a tablet-sized controller based on some info I saw about the new Bluetooth controller but couldn't find the source again when it came time to edit the video. I would've loved if it came out and I hadn't noticed.
I've also heard great things about the BSP controllers! I still need to get one in to try it for myself though.

My dual screen is damaging my phone's port
How?
@@juanserrano-mivueltaenmoto the tech said by plugging it in and out all the time it puts stress on the port. I think it's misaligned but since LG is out of the game all we have to rely on is these shade tree mechanics.
Bezels are perfect
$150-200 is not cheap sir
They can be pretty cheap depending on luck. In India I bought a g8x for 75$
In the realm of multiscreen handhelds that can emulate dual screen consoles well, it's about the cheapest you're going to find without either getting real lucky or settling for a physical imperfection.
It's a flagship-grade smartphone, sir. Even when it's new, its original $799 price tag is still a good $200 cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S20, and you still get a headphone jack with built-in Quad DAC and active stylus support.
