I Love the story about your grandfather! very close to mine mate! My grandfather flew in the RAAF on a Lancaster bomber squadron 463. he trained with Kingsford Smith! the plane # JO-K. on the night of July 4-5 1944, his bomber was shot down, He was the Under Gunner. One thing I'd love to see a video about is the benefits of using higher quality clear coats vs the cheapest stuff at Repco.
I mean more in the application/usability differences apart from the obvious longer lasting finish once cured etc.

I smashed out an amazing headlight clear outside the other day in my nephews renaulk kangoo van.
Started with sanding with 800 and finished with 1200 grit just like you did on your mums car.
Sanded until all the milkiness came out of the uv damaged plastic.
Came up looking like new headlights.
You can go up to 6000 trizact pad for virtually a no polish finish really easy as 6000 leaves hardly any scratches

You never fail to amaze me with the immaculate finishes you produce Gunny and that is first class mate you spray like a robot with each pass being exactly the same as the previous one resulting in a perfect finish, at least I use the same setup as you in my DV1 but that's where the similarities end 😭🤣

I have one, I don't think they're necessary, look at these results, that's proof enough for me.

We have a stat gun, rarely need it, I use water cleaner and a microfiber cloth

Omg that finish...
Use the same gun with same c1 cap and 1.2mm for high solids. I run 10psi. Sure its a little slow but it will lay glass better than anything once you learn to slow down with it. I just prefer the c1 over the c2 cap

Quick question, i thought 21psi was optimal with that gun (built in gauge so 29psi i suppose without). How did you figure out 38psi? Trial and error?
It's specific to the clear I'm using mate. I wouldn't paint any other clears like that, and yes, I just knew the finish I was looking for and the way the product behaves so I tried it and it worked.

What was that you was saying about solvent pop along the side of the car? What would cause that?
Turns out if you leave the 105 clear too long between coats it does that, it's weird because usually it would be because you didn't leave long enough between coats
@TheGunmanChannel interesting. I recently had my car resprayed (paid top money aswell) and pretty much every panel has solvent pop, pitting and even blistering in certain areas. I used to spray a long time ago and never experienced these issues before despite painting in my workshop using fast hardners and air drying. Ever since this has happened it has made me extremely paranoid. For what I'm painting, I used to smash on 4-5 coats of 2k HS clear. I'm looking at a lot of the data sheets for the latest 2k clears out there and they only permit 2 coats max. Anymore than that and people say it will pop. I've just had to dust off my GTI pro lite as I will be painting the smaller parts and getting someone else to do the body.
@@B15SDMDESIGNS it's a real struggle with PPG to find that sweet spot, but you can usually find it.
How do you work out exactly how much paint to mix up at a time?
I have a rough formula in my head, I'll add or subtract if it's bigger or smaller than the 'average panel'

Forget about Amazon, look at something like this. And even if not that gun look at that website they have loads of options. Many of which I've reviewed
