    I’ve been painting and restoring vehicles for more than 40 years. I typically will wet sand the surface and have a bit of dish soap in the water. I don’t use DAs due to the circular pattern it leaves in the surface. Everything from body work to finish is done with blocks to insure a straight perfect surface. Cross hatch sanding for body work, straight line sanding for paint…although this person is extremely skilled and the results show!!

    • @tomthumb1498
      @tomthumb1498 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      He just demonstrated how to do it without circular patterns so evidently you are doing something wrong. It's ok to admit to learning something new after you old Is your self-esteem so low that you can't simply say "I didn't know that" instead of the back handed compliment?

    • @franksliwa362
      @franksliwa362 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ So Tom, I’m
      Assuming you’re an expert on body and paint. I simply stated facts of time tested results. I do appreciate new techniques. Not to say that I would use a orbital sander on my vehicle. So your off handed insult is meaningless. We take what we can use and pitch the rest.

    I usually flat down the paint by wet sanding but how you do it looks so much easier! Well done 😃

    • @ginaerwin4865

      It's easy but not show quality as the clear will not be perfectly flat - use a block through all grits, takes more time but separates the pros from the amateurs

    I would love to see a video of you showing the full process of bare metal, then primer , then base coat and clear coat … with all of the sanding steps. Echt primer, epoxy prime, hi fill, do body work repairs if needed, block down all panels flat, buzz 400 to get block scratches out, finish anywhere between 600-1000 grit, cover up any bare metal rub throughs which you may have got from sanding with 1k primer, clean the job blow off wax and grease remover and paint base coat and clear !

    Hi, greetings from the U.K. I’ve never been brave enough to sand clear coat with a power sander, by hand and doing it wet. However, it still amazes me how effective sanding clear coat is at producing amazing results. It seems so counter intuitive to sand your car, but wow, it works just great - if you educate yourself first!

    As a 25yrs paint and collision repair expert this fella knows his paint finishes and how to get the best from it. Although factory paint on most cars has a little texture “orange peel”. So I have to match that. But many times I have had to buff all of it out and making it mirror finish on restorations I’ve done. It’s a lot of work.

    very nice video but in my opinion is wrong to grind with soft backing plate because as we know the orange peel is hills and valleys, to remove the orange peel you just need to get reed of the hills to make a new flat level on the valleys height, if you have a soft backing plate you giving form to the sand paper so you grind and the valleys too, and you will tell that finally you took a good result but in my opinion and behind a screen i believe that you took off more clear coat that needed to take a good result, please tell me your opinion on this.

    When hand sanding, what is the best way to tell if you have if you have sanded enough, but not too much when going from the 1500 grit to 2000 grit and then 3000 grit? It is easy to know when sanding with the 1500 grit is enough but I don't want to sand too much in the next two go arounds. I have been using a 3M compound but I still see scratches so I am thinking I need to sand more or change compounds. I don't know how thick the clear is and I don't want to sand more than necessary. Pozdrav druze, pre svega svaka cast na radu!
    Imam jedno pitanje, posto rucno radim smirglanje pri poliranju i koristim uvek vodenu smirglu, da li mogu iste efekte postici vodenom smirglom (sa ili bez kvasenja i koju granulaciju bi mi preporucio)?

    What's the benefit of dry sanding vs wet sanding with soap and water? Besides the mess of course from the water and soap.

      A big advantage of dry sanding is also that you can remove material faster, which means you finish faster and need less product😉

    Hello. I'm from Bulgaria and i follow your videos. I polish car's when i have free time.
    I tries with machine dry sanding to remove orange peel
    , but when I polish , I see deep spiral scratches from sanding proces. Why I have this spiral deep scratches?

      you press the machine a lot, you don't clean the paper, the choice of paper, the choice of the machine, all these can be the reason
