I've played through this game every couple of years since it released and I never knew about random encounters being disabled in the first dungeon. Really interesting piece of trivia.

Oh boy, I remember this game, it was my very first and very last JRPG. I played it, together with the second part, for almost two years every now and then until I finally got to the very, very last boss which I could not defeat...then I was, whatever, I am done with this game... ...Man I really want(ed) to like Golden Sun and Golden Sun 2, but the absolutely mind numbing random encounters, that really serve no value other than making the game longer, was just too much...

I don't understand why you got rid of the random encounters after you got them back? Wouldn't they allow you to level Jenna without having to grind less than optimal enemies that gave very little XP? I would think Jenna was strong enough when you got the random encounters back so the fights wouldn't be as hard and you would be able to earn max XP for each fight, making leveling go MUCH faster than grinding in the desert? I've never attempted to speedrun this game in anyway, let alone with just 1 glitched character so I am sure you are right to do it this way, but I just don't understand why... Great video and run! Clearly, for this playthrough the headcanon is Mario's a bit bitter about the very aqua-centric island resort having him pay for ceimes he didn't commit

Of course it's a Retreat glitch. Lol. I was wondering why you needed to get to Kolima Forest, and then you started spamming Move. Retreat glitch is so versatile.

Sorry but no one can convince me Golden Sun is good.

I was SO happy to see this appear on my recommended. The Golden Sun series has been my all time favorite video games since I first played Golden Sun (I think I was in middle school, and The Lost Age had not yet been released), but there's so little content for it! I've thought about trying to do speedruns for the games just to feel like part of a vaguely existent Golden Sun community once more (but speedruns aren't really my kind of thing to do, as much as I enjoy watching them). So this was an instant click from me. And I loved learning things about the game from this, and you did a great job explaining how and why the various things happened. Really great video! Now to check and see if you've got any more Golden Sun content for me to watch. Either way, instant subscribe for this video alone!

I might be mistaken because I haven’t played through these games in a few years, but I’m fairly certain when doing any multi-target abilities against a party of enemies you can redirect the focus of the attack onto the smaller ones. It looks like that mechanic could come in handy in encounters like the lizard king, and possibly a few other niche scenarios. This is probably the single most interesting play through of this game possible, very cool

I mean restet rorting is just an extreme way that anyone gains experience in a video game.... Like even in rougelikes when you die you learn from the experience the same way you do when you reset route... Which by the way is just a more convent way of playing that game.. as you can die reload a save and walk back and try the fight again. Which you would still gain the same experience just using more real world time... So the only time this trick would be considered cheating is in a game with checkpoints or blokcs you saving and reloading at cirtian time... The best exemple I can give is if you do reste rouiting before every fightin the elite four in most pokemon games... As pokemmon is normally extremely genrus with it save syetms but when you enter the eliete 4 as you can't save till you beat the chapaign making your last real save before the elite 4... This is common in alot game s before the final boss or even level. So pretty much in those games svae routing is normsal intended play until you get the messages saying... "are you sure you want tl finish the game?" Then it becomes cheating during that time unless you save ruoyt based on the last real save then it is normal and intended.

Jenna planning her checkmates 80 moves in advance gives me light. I didnt know glitches like Retreat glitch when i played, solo was really tough but i did do a 2 character run. Think it was Isaac/Mia.

Little detail: Jenna's battle sprite has changed between the two games, especially when you equip her with a sword. In GS 1 it looks like a very short sword or a big dagger. In GS2 it looks incredibly nasty. A much longer jagged sword that looks like it'd hook and tear into the ennemies on a slice. Jenna was PISSED in The Lost Age.

Oh you can cure the Curse countdown status effect with an Elixir btw ! Only status that can't be cured without a djinn or a priest is Haunted. This... really came in clutch to me lol

Now I wonder what if any effect transferring this glitched to hell and back save would do in The Lost Age.

Today on increasingly arcanes and obtuses videogame challenges : the main character dies of heatstroke, repeatedly and Jenna wins by seeing the futur.

I find it so funny how Jenna basically becomes a time wizard that knows everything their opponent is going to do, the 80 turn routing literally was hilarious to me

Possibly but really only if she gets HER LOST AGE aura spells since her final one can restore as MUCH HP as the lv 48 PURE WISH spell but costs less PP/MP to do so.

"I'd assume the "random encounters stop" mechanic would also apply to the few overworld random Djinn encounters, right? (now that I watch more of the video I got my answer, shame)

This video made me really miss playing Golden Sun. I was excited for it to launch on NSO but kept waiting and waiting. After a whole year subscribed I finally canceled my membership and Golden Sun was added a few weeks later. Lame.
