I like to listen to this with my headphones in. Listening to the battle between machine and nature, it’s awesome after the mid-train units pass the pace quicken and the battle changes brakes are squealing and gravity is a calling. Awesome video
The loco's are fine, they smoke like hell because they are starved of oxygen working through the tunnel. Big diesels like these use a hell of alot of air and they run short of air through a tunnel like this one!
I loved the music in the other video; Black Sabbath I think??? Just set the tone for the whole video. Glad you re-posted this. Awesome, simply awesome!
Yes... While the trains retain their DPU's via the MRL, MRL still runs the helpers manned - EXCEPT for those "Power Assist" units which are MRL units cut in behind the road power - the 2009 edition shows this but it's still in the camera.
Excellent film, very interesting. A couple of questions 1) how long is this tunnel? 2) What type of loco used this route during the final period of steam traction? and 3) does this tunnel suffer from icing during the winter?

Happy you enjoy it, man!
I still love watching this video and think that it's insanely hard core.
I agree 100%
The way locomotives should be run: on its knees wide open, with tons of smoke. Great video.

Spectacular! Love the black smoke being blown from the traction motors....
Thanks for getting this back on, was gutted when it was taken off!!

More please! Awesome smoke
That is crazy, all the diesel smoke
compressed air bottles as the ones they use in discotheques to be placed in the machinists compartments
Very beautiful shots. Thank you. 5*
I wonder how things looked when GPs traveled up this?
At one point we got out and pushed to make sure we would make the hill :P
With the coming of the ACe's does MRL still run manned helpers over the hill?
Great Video. Love all the BNSF paint.
Are there still all 2nd generation EMD powered trains still going over Mullan Pass today?

I like my train smoked please lol wow that's a really nice lash up on the front of the train!
Is that the NP length, or the new length after MRL gets done shortening it?
I think a few of those locomotives need a tune up...
Man that was awesome!
That doesn't look to good for the environment but is really good to look at! Great catch!
well done..great loco!
I do like to see locos thrashing like this.
8 Engines, Not Bad!!!!!!!!!!!
