    The opening and closing mechanism is so smooth,, really like when both doors close together and then the complete head moves down a little,, so smooth..

    The one you have is known as the super speed regular. For regular mans beard. The powered blue tip was a very mild shave and then the red tip an aggressive shave. Beautiful razors.

      Oh, and if $2.49 is a good deal, then let me know and I’ll grab them all if you know anyone who wants one for trade or something?! I can afford that at least being a poor dad with no job! 😂😩. God bless and gimme a shout if that’s a good deal. If they’re discontinued, then I wanna grab them if that’s a good price. I know it’s better than the $8 bucks I spent on Amazon that’s for sure! Ha!

    Great video, thank you! I've been shaving with straight razors for about 20 years. I just bought my first DE, a 1957 (birth year) Flare Tip.

      You didn't find that 1958 Gillette flare tip a little bit aggressive when going against the grain?

    • @jonathan19947
      @jonathan19947 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@trueblu8 Are you sure you're using the proper blade angle and technique? Double edge safety razors require proper blade angle and proper technique to not cut yourself. But if you don't like the razor then that's fine you don't have to it's up to you, but for me this razor, like any other old Gillette gives me real decent shaves.

    • @trueblu8
      @trueblu8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonathan19947 yeah that's the bewildering part. I have found that vintage razors are usually very mild and smooth for me. I don't know if it was because it was gold-plated or what but this thing is not smooth at all. Maybe I'll try it with a different blade some other time. The only other razor that was like this for me was the brass Karve. Both of those razors gave me little minor abrasions and cuts all over the place, especially when going against the grain. I have like 40 or 50 different razors. These were the only two to ever do that to me. And I think you are right. I think it has something to do with blade angle.

    Hi buddy. Enjoy your videos and you piqued my curiosity about the Gillette Barbershop shave mousse so I ordered one from Amazon after checking a couple of stores around me, and paid almost $8 bucks for it, then found them at a store I hadn’t yet checked for $2.49 a piece! 😩. Just my luck, but you live and learn. Smell is great and I grabbed a couple for that price and in case they decide to stop carrying it, which again would be my luck! 😂. Take care and God bless. Oh, and I too have a ‘54 Super Speed and it’s just great! They sure don’t make ‘em like that anymore. Be well and have a great one. To everyone on here too. 👍🏻

      Thanks for the kind words. Yes, they have discontinued it so it’s hit or miss. I heard that they sell it in Kroger stores if you have them near you - stock up.

    • @musicjustintime

      Thanks for your reply brother...I picked them up at a Giant supermarket (one that my wife always shops at and I had no idea they had them!) here in Mechanicsburg, PA! Couldn’t believe they were just $2.49 and I got shafted for almost $8 bucks for one! Ha! Oh well. Now I know. I have a light beard and pretty sensitive skin, so I barely had anything to work with tonight but I really wanted to try the mousse so I used my 1940s Gillette Gold Tech 3-piece which is mild, and a Gillette Silver Blue blade and I didn’t get one nick! That’s a first for me. Has to have a lot to do with that foam I must say! I LOVE it and thank you again for your promoting it, even though I got shafted on Amazon! Lol!!!! Love the smell and feel and it’s even better than some of the soap pucks I got. Lost my job last year due to Covid so I’ve been shopping online more than I should! God bless and keep up the fun and informative videos. Blessings to you and your family. Take care my friend! JP

      @@averageguytested I just finished using the King C Gillette for the 1st time. I did not get a good shave like you did. Probably I am more used to a different angle....or never learnt this one.... might try a different handle. I think I get better shaves from the vintage Gillettes. Keep shaving....ohhh and yes I also got a "G. Foamy" can....
