- Trying a side by side comparison of a 1956 regular Gillette Flair tip and a 1958 TV Special flair tip. Is there a difference? Also trying some North Shave soap and Lime Aftershave Balm from Captains Choice.

I wanted to give a friend a unique gift, so I found him a 1959 flair tip. He was born in 59 so I thought he'd appreciate it. After I cleaned it i had to try it...loved it. So much so that I got one for myself, mine like yours is a 56. Cleaned polished and replated by me i think it's gonna make a nice gift. I'm glad you enjoy your 56.

I have the TV special on its way for Christmas this year from my wife, already have the regular flare tip. 1955. If you're getting nicks on your neck like I always used to.. try stretching the skin just below your neck with your free hand. Did wonders for me. I'm no expert.. just a friendly helpful tip. I hardly ever cut my neck anymore. Great shave and have a great holiday season!

@@jonathan19947 I just got into vintage Gillette razors by chance at an antique shop. It’s a 1948-1950 Superspeed in excellent condition for $20 with some vintage super blue blades and a unrelated case. Shaved so good I bought a Fatboy and two Slim adjustable’s. Fatboy seems to be more aggressive on one side, maybe needs the plate aligned?
I loved your comparison shave! Just bought a flare tip off the bay but didn’t know there was a difference between the tv special and normal. Just got it and received the tv special! Had my first shave with it it was a good shave just don’t make the mistake of using feather blades!! 🪒 excellent video. 🪒

Good morning Ken! I find most of the Gillitte super-speed heads shave the same. IMHO, they produce a great shave; not quite as good as an Aristocrat, but super comfortable. Golfing. I wish I could step back 38 years or so and play. Used to be good enough to letter in High School and represent my command in the Navy. Two years ago I played at a class reunion and...lets just say I have lost a stroke or two as I aged. I was glad the beer cart came along and added some cheer to my game. lol. Enjoy!

I just had a friend ask me about the difference in the flair tip super speeds so I posted a picture of a 50s, tv, and 60s side by side on Instagram. The head changes with razors made in the 60s. You can still pick them up cheap, and they give great shaves, regardless of the year. You would see a bigger difference comparing the tv to one made in the 60s. Hope you had a great birthday.

What would the difference between a 50’s and 60’s one?
I went into the old SF store back in 2011 and bought the lavender shave oil. It had a pleasant scent and because I was using pre shave oil, I shaved against across the grain and against it - not something ai normally did.

Hi Ken ¡ Very interesting video! Sometime ago a close friend of mine gave one of each( a Flare Tip and a TV Special) that belonged to his granddad. Today I had my 3rd shave with the Flare Tip but I'm not happy with the result. I used Dorco blades in all the shaves ¿ Could you make a video shaving with your Flare Tip Super Speed using Treet Black Beauty blades? I'd like to see how they work on that razor. Thank you in adv

Just purchased together in really nice condition TV special and a regular flair tip. I'll probably end up buying multiple flair tips 😆. I have other ttos that I would hate to ruin. Funny story I picked up a Van Der Hagen tto at Wal-Mart on the wim because I didn't bring shave gear on a weekend trip and ended up actually enjoying it. Might make that my travel razor and will leave the expensive stuff home going forward.
The Gillette Wilkinson sword blades are great for beginners eg me I bought 100 as there your go to blade
Love them in the EJ as I am still learning the technique

Hey Ken, I know all too well that getting nicks only happens to me on my neck as well. Doesn’t matter I have shaved with the specific razor and blade, it happens from time to time. I figure that there are a lot of factors responsible for that and some might be daytime, temperature, humidity and season. It is what it is, but overall it is so much fun to wet shave 😀

I’ve only shaved with the Gillette adjustable razors (Fatboy & Slim), but thought I try a few other to put into my rotation. I just ordered a King C Gillette and I’m looking at the vintage Gillette Super Speed Razors. I prefer a milder razor, and I was looking at the Blue Tip Super Speed. How does the Gillette Flare Tip compare to the Blue Tip?
With my Gillette Adjustable Razors I do my cheeks at 4/5 on the dial, and do my neck at 2/3 on the dial. If I had a non-adjustable, I’m rather have one that mild or comparable to an adjustable at 2 or 3.

Ken, I have a few flair tips and I have yet to get a bbs shave. With my Black beauty dialed up , yes. I get close. Have you been able to get a close shave using a standard flair tip. ( better luck with 1948-51 tto, thank you)
i can only find this Twinplex Double Edge Blade Sharpener online on Ebay but shipped from USA and the cheapest are so rusty...the one i wanted cost the insane price of 49.95$ plus shipping and extra taxes here oh boy
