Good job. It looks like you managed the angle of the dangle just right. The final pedal supports look a little iffy though .
Mate this is sweet, great set of vids and super helpful. I basically have exactly the same requirements as you, a need to make the rig a bit smaller when guests stay over etc as its in the guest bedroom, so I might try and mirror what you did exactly.
This helps! I have a cheaper next level challenge cockpit. It has the center post that is a bit weak. I’m going to remove the center post and build a wheel stand out of this stuff around the existing cockpit. Ordered the csl dd so need something stronger. Will be more comfy without the center post between my legs.

Nice build - You can snap the teeth off the back of the angle brackets so they sit flush when not able to sit in the profile slots. (ie - under the wheel base plate)

Hi, thank you for these very informative videos. One question: which are the different angle clamps with levers that you used to tilt the wheel deck, and why did you need to use different ones (from those of the pedal deck)?
This is bloody brilliant coming from a guy who wants a setup but needs it to be small and be able to be hidden when not in use from the missus…

awesome. Can you design a dual purpose rig, flight simulator with central joystick, throttle and rudder pedals, plus racing car with DD wheel, pedals, shifter and handbrake? Keyboard, mouse pad. Movable parts so that you can transition from flight mode to race mode in one minute? Ah, having the ability to tilt the seat to reflect the different angles of car vs plane sitting position would be also great 😉

Nice DIY rig first of all. Can you help me to understand better what you did between Part1 design and now? especially for the pedals and wheel deck.
With the pedals, its difficult to see how the deck is actually mounted now to the frame and how you put the rig in compact mode under your desk.
As per the wheel deck, I have a TSC PC racer wheel and also would consider to make the deck out of alu profile and have the height/tilting adjustment from this instead of an additional wheel deck. You are talking about 2 levers you added but again difficult to see how they look like in the video.
without being a pain, could consider making another video specifically to show these 2 design changes you made, and also how you slide the pedal deck when you tidy up your rig?

Good build video. I appreciate you posting it for us. I am thinking about using aluminum or maybe (FULL SEND) carbon fiber. I want to lighten up my top frame on my 3 DOF rig. You have a LOT of subscribers so Maybe someone here might offer advice? My TOP frame needs to be lighter especially with the V3's and transducer hanging way out there. Does this type of extrusion frame flex? Will it bend on a small pivot? If you have time, look at my rig. I need a bit of advice to improve response (other than bigger motors!) . Thanks DMAX
Great vids Russell! I've decided to go ahead and do my own as my new CSL pedals are flexing my Playseat Evolution way too much. What are your thoughts on using 30mm/60mm instead of the standard 40mm/80mm?
Thanks David. You can definitely do that, no problem. People make them out of drainage pipes! That said, I personally wouldn’t. When it comes to upgrading elements, attaching add-ons etc. you might live to regret it.

I've been thinking of building my own also.
I've been looking at upgrading my 8 yr old, starter rig and all of the 80/20 rigs are fairly expensive. This might actually be a better solution to save some money. I'll download the app and see if that's the case. I love how clever you were with minimizing parts to still get a solid 80/20 rig that tucks right into place. Great job and thanks for the videos on this.

Debating on building one of these with the G25 i currently have (Good amount of mods to it) or wait till the 5NM DD wheel comes out and try to build stuff then.

Thanks. I don’t have a benchmark to compare it against, but for my needs it’s great. Small footprint, sits pretty upright. It’s ‘firm’ to sit in, so not great for 4 hour stints. Also attracts dust and detritus, but hoovers off nicely 😹

I'd love to see what kind of levers you used to be able to angle the profile as you did. Pictures or a short video wpuls be greatly appreciated
Hi mate, nice design, been run ING a bodged fix on my Playseat setup ever since my Loadcell snapped the pedal stand off the main shaft of the rig 🤣, this looks like a my better idea than £6-700 for an off the shelf option, plus I like building things myself. One question where did you get the universal wheel attachment from?

Great build idea. Looking to do something similar. Particularly like your retractable and adjustable pedal mount using minimal hardware. Those angle clamp blocks you're using with the locking lever, it is a tab on one side... How is it not sliding given the tabs are in the same plane?
The locking lever connects to a t-nut in the opposing profile. It’s pure pressure. They’re rock solid. I have my Sprint pedals set at 58kg and there’s no play at all. Hope that helps.
@@FindingSpeed it does help thanks. So they seem to hold up to the shear stress from pedal presses. Good to know (I reached out to 8020, but they don't test application loads as it varies so) Would love to see a video of you folding it up. Great work here. Congrats and good job... That was a great couple of vids, thanks for posting them. Have you considered doing a follow up vid after using the rig for a year, what you learned, and do different if you had to do it again, etc. Really informative, great stuff, thank you. One final thing, did you ever post the measurements, as I don't seem to see them - I'm getting old and stupid, so prob my fault tbh.

I noticed in the last shot that your pedal deck is up nice and high. I was trying to figure out how you did that because earlier in the video, the hardware you were using made it look like it wouldn't angle up that high, unless I'm missing something.
He has used a longer piece of profile Ali and attached it to the upright of the wheel stand to allow for more angle

Do you mind me asking how tall you are? I'm struggling for space and have a 28" inside leg, so I was hoping that I could go for a 1000mm frame like yourself.
By the way, where did you get those adjustable levers from. (The ones you used for you foot pedal support). Is there a proper name that the aluminium extrusion companies refer to them..? They're called 'angle clamps' - the type I've linked to is correct for standard 40mm x 40mm 80/20. They're super useful!
So, if I wanted to build a similar setup, but with a seat that could tilt forwards or backwards, how would you suggest I do that?
Hi, I really enjoyed how you got such a compact footprint for your rig, pls may I ask what the outside length / width of the frame are and how tall you are - if it's not too personal your inside leg measurement as our bodies are all different - I promise I don't want any other personal details :o) to give me an idea of what works for me and what height of kids / other adults it could cope with? Also I had an idea to compliment your brilliant design - have a reclining race seat on runners - you can pick up cheap. That way you could slide (usually around 200mm of travel - I also have kids so this would allow for adjustment for different heights - hence my request for your height) the seat forward and tilt it forward in "storage mode", this could make you and your wife even happier :o) Please can you also post details of the quick clamps you used to get the tilt on the wheel base mount. You are an awesome guy - I really love how compact this is :o)
Sorry for asking the same questions as other guys for example the clamps for wheel bracket. I have seen this info. Pls can you let me know when your dimensions video is out and your height inside leg measurement if not too personal would be great
put a few caster wheels under your rig, makes it way easy to move.

Thanks for watching. It doesn’t need to move far and the rig would be too tall to fit under the desk with casters.
Great idea. I’d like to move it to my other room more easily. Maybe there are foldable ones on the market.

@@FindingSpeed Recently started planning my own rig and your videos were quite helpful! However I'm not sure what's the best way to mount the wheelbase is yet.
The plate you have linked - are you sure it's the one you have? On their website it's not just a flat plate like the one seen in your video - and apparently it's supposed to be sidemounted which would be impossible for what I've planned right now and really just inconvenient, since it's also curved slightly :(
@@Vallin87 you’re right. It wasn’t that - it was the flat version of that somewhere else on that site. What wheelbase do you have? You might not need a plate at all
@@FindingSpeed Looked through their site earlier but it was the only plate I've found there unfortunately. I'm currently using a the CSW 2.5 and I was thinking of maybe using 2 40/40 profiles and then use 2 L brackets to mount the base - but I wasn't sure if it would be strong enough this way, since normally you use 3 bolts to mount the CSW

I live in Bangladesh and import taxes here are insane l, an entry level wheel stand worth 100 pounds costs around 2 thousand quid here! So gonna build a wheel stand myself.
I built mine out of 3030 profile predominantly and used some rudimentary logic to remove the need for MASSIVE uprights and base beams. It probably cost about £500
How is the rigidity of your rig? im torn between 3060 /3030 or 4040/4080. The clear benefit for me on the 3060/3030 is the massive weight savings, cost is not that much different. also the 4080 looks cooler.
The rigidity is acceptable, I must make you aware that my rig is not a traditional design/shape. It is made with all 3030 apart from the uprights which are 30/60/60(an L shaped profile) and the pedal deck which is 30/60( for strength. If you are going to make an inverted T shaped rig like everyone else then 30/30 is not the right choice. Happy to answers any questions you have.
Would you mind sharing the angle clamps that you used for the wheel deck cross member? I can’t find anything that clamps nicely for extrusions set perpendicularly...
Yeah - it was a pain to find them. They're called Adjustable angle locks.

You need to buy the threaded locking clamps separately AFAIK.

Sorry for the slow reply. There's both 80x40 and 40x40 in there. In hindsight I probably would've gone for 120x40 on the base.

I binned the wheel plate off quite quickly since I upgraded to a DD. I can’t recall where I got it, but it was about £40. It wasn’t much cop to be honest.
How Do you like the Bimarco seat? Is it comfy and still in good condition?
Planing my rig with cobra 3 but still not shure
It picks up dust and stuff sticks to it, but it’s a solid seat. Comfortable is a strong word - it’s very very firm. I know about it after 3 hours of driving.
I can recommend a cobra seat,.
Any dimensions? I "stole" dimensions of a p1x pdf. What is the clearance between the pedaltray and rig. For example. The internal rig width is 500mm and the overall pedaltray 497-498mm just to make slide without getting stuck?
You don’t need to knock mm off inside dimensions - as long as they’re the ‘same’ it’ll go just fine.
Did you order your seat at the official bimaroc site? I want to do the same with my dad and I saw a nice seat I liked and wanted to order it at the official site.

Has anyone outsource their parts on china? I've seen cheap aluminum profiles on their. Don't know how to request specific lengths
know this is an old video, but wondering if you remember your cost for the frame components only? I admittedly didn't have the patience (since I am in the US) to jot down the cost of every item and quantity and convert to US currency. Hoping you might be able to throw a ballpark figure out just trying to see how much I would save if I built this over buying/ if I built this if I could spend the same on upgrading accessories/sim racing components to get more value for money
Probably around $200-250 at the time roughly speaking. No idea what aluminium prices are like these days, though.

It’s nearly £250 more expensive here. If you watch the videos I make it clear why I needed to build my own. It wasn’t related to cost.
@@FindingSpeed I did watch your video mate, I was just saying that it's a very similar price point, and for most people wanting a rig like that are looking for rigidity, especially when using aluminium, being a soft metal the slightest flex will soon become a wobble when using a direct drive wheel and load cell pedals, the way you use the 45 degree brackets to attach the uprights is not a long term reliable junction, no where near as strong as the solid steel plates that the GT omega prime uses, and the wheel mount, seat mountings etc, just thinking that if someone was going to spend £550 on parts to build such a rig, they'd probably get better longevity and value in the long run from getting the real thing with the correct fittings, especially wouldn't want to invest so much money and have no come back if there's a problem in 6 months, but that's just me. I get your space needs, and admire your design work etc.
saw pretty much the same rig selling for 500 without seat, wheel ect. how much did it cost for you ?
I spent around £250 on the 8020 and around £250 on the seat.
is there a way to hardmount the tm shifter to a profile?
With a bit of DIY, yes, but I just used the desk clamp to clamp it to the profile. Flexible for movement and easy to mount.

I am trying to build a sim rig keeping costs at priority and so I want to know if 60x20 mm extrusions would be strong enough to bear the loads? Those are the biggest one's available to me currently.
It will likely be ok, but you’ll struggle with it being very light-weight and likely to move around. You’d probably need to over-engineer slightly for stiffness and stability.
How long is your base? 45"? Im looking to build something similar for myself and wondered if it would be cramped being 5'8"
Not sure if you still need help but I'm 5'9" and made a similar diy rig and my base is 45" and works fine. Personally would have wanted to go longer (47" since it was more shipping for 48" and over for my case) because you can adjust it shorter, but once it's cut you can't really go longer.
However, his design has a pedal box that goes outside the base to give it even more length and adjustability so if you did( I did not) that with 45" base you should be fine
@@joeyg369 I already placed my order (RIP) I ended up going with 40" being I'm 5'9" and I only had 42" to fit the rig.. Hopefully since I don't plan on having a straight leg setup like this one it wont be as cramped
@@WackyTerky you should be fine. However if it is cramped, I would just order a couple more pieces of extrusion to make the adjustable pedal set up that he used in the video and it can be slid in when not in use. I'm doing that to get more angle adjustments on the pedals 👍

Sucks to go looking to upgrade my GT Omega Pro rig to an 80/20 and only the stupid expensive professional rigs are available in the US... Everything else in my price range is all of the Earth in different currencies lol... I guess only the Europeans like to race from home... Lol

It’s 80/40, but it’s commonly known as 80/20. Not many people looking for ‘8040 rigs’ on google. Everyone else calls it that too - you’ve got a lot of videos to comment on 🤣

"80/20" is a brand name/manufacturer. Who names themselves that? Them I guess. Just look for any company that sells aluminum extrusion, and use most common profile dimensions 8040 and 4040.
