Recently got a base Macan. Yes, it has 4 cylinders, has less than 300 hp, doesn't have a launch control, and it cannot get to 60 mph in 5 seconds. I don't care. I love it. I felt no need to spend the extra money on a faster SUV. I don't need to cut the driving time from 10:05 to 9:56 between my kids' sporting events. Meanwhile, it still gives me a great comfortable ride and it is super fun to drive. To those that say I was badge chasing, I say, you are pathetic. I did my research and this is the one that gave me the best value. I don't get the base model shaming that goes on when Porsche makes perfectly fine cars throughout the range. I have my mind set on a 911 when my kids no longer need a ride from me. Maybe then, I want to become a race car driver...nah...I am just going to get a base 911. I appreciate your candor and great reviews on all Porsche models on this channel.

I just got a base Macan as a loaner last week. I really liked it. The 2.0 would be ok for me but I'm sure the V6T would be sweet. Was looking at prices afterwards as it'd be a wonderful daily.
I was given a base Cayenne loaner last time and was somewhat disappointed with it (besides the interior). I'm very surprised how much different the Macan and Cayenne are to drive. One drove a bit like a sporty car while the other drove like a heavy SUV.
Don't care about what people will think. If you want a Macan then get one.
Recently picked up a Macan S, my first Porsche, and I have to say I"m now hooked on the brand.
I had a base 2017 Macan as a loaner vehicle while my Cayman was in the shop for a couple weeks (long weird story but its fine now) and it was a perfectly pleasantly car to drive and sold me on the idea of a Macan as a daily driver. But the whole time I kept craving for more power as I knew it had in S, GTS or Turbo trims.
Hi Nick, great video again! Following your advise from New Zealand I bought a Macan 2 years ago. I love and it is the perfect supplement to my 991.2. There is nothing wrong with having more cars of one brand - to the contrary, it has a positive effect on the contact to your dealer re rebates , service, etc, and I am sure they would give you a Panamera instead of their lowest model next time. Trust your mom´s taste and rely on William who even remembers your favorite color.......

I highly recommend the Macan GTS. If you like a car that handles well and can carry 5 (thin) people in luxury, this is the best car to get with the least amount of compromise in terms of performance and fit-and-finish.

love the macan especially the 4cyl it is dirt cheap (for porsche) the interior is amazing and the handling is like driving a good car not a boaty suv.
The Macan is really great! The 252hp is really powerful and has enough power.. here in Germany where most SUVs have 150-190 diesel hp, the 2.0 is rather quick! But holy shit it's so much more expensive that the Q5.. a well spec'd Macan 2.0 cost as much as the new SQ5 (3.0T 354hp) in Germany (spec'd both 75.000€)! Well your driving a Porsche and it is fairly common over here, especially the S Diesel

As a pilot I would be very comfortable in that cockpit! Truly crazy how many buttons there are. You need a type rating to drive it. (Type ratings are what allows a pilot to fly a particular aircraft, FYI)
In Germany the Macan is all over the place, i feel like no one is buying a Cayenne anymore.
In Australia tehre's more Macans but there's still heaps of Cayennes
We have a shitload of Macan's in Poland. Mainly diesels but of course turbo ones can be seen too. Ive driven a diesel and its great.
I agree, the Diesel 3.0T suits the Macan the best.
BUT! If these pay for future vehicles like the 918 development then....maybe I can be okay with it haha
Justin Loving a Macan gts is very un-Porsche like as well. And the Macan is all Audi based so it doesn't matter if it's the Macan or Macan turbo.
I made reference to that in my original comment about all non-sport car models. While the Macan S GTS Turbo is partially Audi based there are 70% Porsche parts on the vehicle so that statement is incorrect...It is not all Audi based. As a general overview however, I agree, all the Non-Sport Car models are in-fact un-porsche like.

A minor point, but you can add the turbo boost to the display. There is a bottom line of that display that's configurable and one of the options is boost (along with some other lame ones not worth bothering with).
I did look and the boost was not an option on this Macan?
That's odd, it's definitely an option on my S and I see it there all the time. The lower model has a downgraded PCM?
Yes it is an option on the S, GTS and Turbo but not this model.
Superb review Nick. I've had my S almost 3 years now and love it more even more today than when I picked it up. Such a joy to drive as a daily.
I find it interesting that you can get a lot of the performance options on the base macan including sports exhaust.
Just one thing: Your statement about Macan brakes was a bit generic and does not apply to all Macans. If you go with the Macan GTS, you get the big turbo brakes and there is no issue when you need to use them. That package includes a lot of options and you get 20" wheels and a lot more HP.
The brakes on my wife's Macan feel more responsive with the winter tires on. The all-season tires that come standard with the Turbo wheels may be the culprit here.

Nick, i'm so sad in this video, unlike the 2015 one, you didn't have a sit on the rear seat.. if you did, it could have been the best comparison exmple of the headroom of rear seat with or without panoramic sunroof. it's because so many people over the world are agonizing over that before purchasing macan. hope you could make a video on it maybe sometime later...
Bought a cayenne in sept. Chose it over the levante. Porsche build quality (Levante's plastic parts + chrysler knobs), Leg room, Handling (Levante Sucked) etc are un-matched by any SUV in the world.
But I'd probaly go for a jaguar f pace over the macan. Macan just isn't in the level of cayenne

I had three (3) SETS plus two extra (spares) of wheels for my Audi A6 and within two years potholes had destroyed 2 of the 5 of one set of 19" and 2 of five 18" wheels that I had winter/snow tires on leaving me with the stock 15" wheels =(

Nick Murray - I'm usually pretty informed with the car industry, yet here I am seeing the 2.0 Macan for the first time ever, having had no idea this model trim existed for the Macan prior to seeing this. So, as always, thanks for the informative review! Quick question for anyone who knows the answer: Does the 3.0 Turbo V-6 found in the Porsche Macan S/turbo share any components with the 3.0 turbo V6 in the new Audi S4/S5's?
Being a Porsche fanboy, I enjoyed this review. I have a Macan S and love it. Two years and no problems so far. Great on long journeys and as a daily driver. The Cayman S 718 is my toy for now, and I will track that once Im done with the break in period. That may make me a Douchebag as you say, but I prefer that than having just the one!
I love my GTS! Great video! I was disappointed Porsche released the Audi derived base Macan. It just doesn't seem like a Porsche...but most would say that about the Panamera, Cayenne and all Macan models.
Yes the engine is very un-Porsche like but as you say that is true of the base engine in most of the non sport car models.
Un-Porsche like when you compare to their sports cars, but the Macan, Cayenne and Panamera are very fun, sporting and capable cars in their category. How 'unchanged' is the VW 3.6 VR6 vs the Cayenne Base' 3.6?
Completely agree, which is why I own one haha...I'm not educated on the VW/Cayenne differences. The base macan's engine (to my current understanding) is lifted directly from Audi, unmodified.
Yea, you made a very good choice! Interesting that it comes unmodified on the 2.0T engine... I know the 3.6 in the base cayenne has a slight hp/torque increase over the VW counterpart. Could be just tuning... or tuning + small changes such as intake/manifold/exhaust.
At least it's not a VW engine.

Nick, may i ask your thoughts on Porsche's Wheel and Tire Protection Plan, as well as their Pre-paid Maintenance Program?
I have a 2015 Audi Q5 3.0 TDI. It's a lovely all-arounder with a (true) average 36.6 MPG (US) and an all-time high of 51.8 MPG for a single tank. The 19.8 gallon (US) tank will easily take you 650 miles, and if you're gentle on the throttle, over 900 miles. It'll do 0-60 mph in about 6.4 sec. I especially love the AWD in snow. I could never go back to RWD.
I also played with a Macan for a while, and positively loved it. Although it is smaller (you definitely feel you're in a smaller car coming from a Q5 to a Macan), the drive is impeccable. Precise steering, great shifts, comfortable suspension, and immaculate fit and finish. The styling is first rate, inside and out, in my view -- contemporary without looking trendy, or having loads of functionality shifted to a multi-page, multilevel, menu-driven screen that's terrible for real-time interaction. I love the way Porsche does things.
My Q5 is my only vehicle, and it's positively awesome as an only car... but I still ache for a Porsche 911 Carrera 4.
Nick: If you want a Macan, and you can make it happen comfortably, then go for it... and have a blast! :-)

Nick, how many cameras do you normally use to make a typical video? What do you favor? Canon, GoPro, etc.?
I am starting to see a lot of these base Macans in my area... also pre-owned Cayennes. It does not feel as special anymore driving a Porsche cause the starting price point is much lower and everyone and their mom's know they can afford one now. Previously most people would dismiss buying a Porsche cause it was expensive and assumption that it was unreliable/very costly to maintain. Glad it is funding Porsche which means more cool sports cars and technology, but at the same time it takes away the uniqueness/exclusivity of it a little.
Hey Nick, when you get your 911 back you should make a video about your favorite road near you.
I have an A4 with that engine and I love it! perhaps it doesn't work as well with more weight...

Are you sure the LCA is standard? The Porsche online config tool has it as a $700 option on the Macan S

I would love to hear your thoughts on a Macan GTS someday, Nick. I spent 90 minutes with one at the Porsche Experience Center here in Atlanta and fell in love with it. I am seriously thinking about purchasing one in the future and appreciate your insights.

My wife has the Q5 and I really like it S does she. But she loved the Macan but it was in essence $25k more when you added the same package, just tough to justify.

Just stumbled on your Macan review somehow as wifey is due for a replacement for her Audi A3 Q soon-ish (our 16th, all quattro of course going back to my first, a 1986 4000s quattro...) wondering re: whether the V-6 turbo or the 4 is more suitable as a reasonable daily driver/road trip/ski car considering loss of power at altitude (std atmosphere in a NA engine is on the order of 3% or so).
Of course I am of the mind of Turbo w/perf pkg and she does like a bit of kick but the delta is nearly double. There are lots of permutations between not considering the CPO route that make more sense if one cares $$ wise. All the while, my finger is quivering over the buy button for a '18 911 C4S w/ perf pkg and a few other bits and bobs deemed necessary.
I already am resigned from a young age at being an automotive geek and becoming a double a "Papa Delta" (Porsche Douche) on having 2 Porsches (981BS presently) is something I am inured to from Audi douchedom of at one time having 3 at a time.
Anyway thanks again for posting your informative yet amusing reviews and look forward to more.

Humorous story... I was test driving the 2017 Carrera S and lamenting that I would need to contort myself, and possibly break my prized sticks in order to fit a golf bag in the rear of the car. The sales rep said, "I have exactly the car for you" and led me over to a Macan Turbo! It was quite the nice machine. However, the douche in me was already in love with the performance of the 911 and since I have not yet graduated to uber douche, I was not about to buy a $100k crossover just for my golf bag.

It sat with Porsche for a year then got sold as a Lemmon Law recovered car and is now somewhere in Texas I believe, I would love to talk to the new owner!

You have excellent English skills for a non-native speaker, much better than my language skills in any of the countries in which I was stationed. No offense was taken. I do agree with your thoughts. I test drove a Macon Turbo and a Cayenne Turbo. They were both amazing. Expensive, but amazing.

Why aren't your videos in 4K? Great content as usual . The Macaan is def a cool car and I watched the whole thing.
It is a choice of 4K 30fps or 1080p 60fps with the equipment I have. Most of the cameras I use (GoPros etc) do such a poor job of 4K I think the 1080p with 60fps looks better.
Nick Murray as a test, upload a few in 4k30. I think 4k30 looks perfectly fine. Alex on autos does his in 4k30 and looks amazing. also your content would show up when people search for 4k and might net you more hits. The ppl who do film in 4k looks amazing when I watch on my TV. In any case, love all your videos and I watch every one Same day as uploaded. one of the best channels on here!

Try an F-Pace as well. Many have claimed it handles even better than this, it is cheaper and the v6 sounds glorious.
it's not really cheaper. f pace r sport is around $65k. The interior in the Jag is terrible as well.

They will improve their faults in the next generation f pace (next year or when they re-do it) better to buy it then

Have been in both and the F-Pace honestly has a worse interior build quality than a Honda CR-V.

Nick, Thanks for your great videos. Keep it up. I have an Audi A4 2017 with sports package, and pretty happy with the 2.0T and dual clutch. Do you think it would be worth considering the base Macan as a potential upgrade? Does it handle better and do you think PDK is significantly better than S-tronic?

I had a Macan Turbo before 550i xDrive, It was great but I move to BMW, but Macan it's still great choice.

hey my dad has 2007 boxster and a macan s. I live in Fairfield ct this boxster isn't any old boxster. It is lowered. bigger rear wheels and aftermarket exhaust. it would be cool to see it in a video.
