      @@richardparnell8402 My girls 2013 focus blew a motor at 60k miles with regular maintenance. She also had the transmission issues from that year that Ford refused to fix. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you get a lemon but in general far fewer problems with toyotas in my experience.

    • @richardparnell8402
      @richardparnell8402 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@XxLuke117xX this is true. I will say that I have changed my oil starting at 2k then every 4-5k, I usually buy an OEM filter, full syn with dexOS (I think that's what it is) and when it's done draining I put like a half liter down the crankcase to flush some of the more Amber looking oil out. It's kept the inside of the engine really clean. Edit and yes I hear you about Ford not honoring things I spent $1,500 on paint protection and rust proofing after they "fixed" it the first time it bubbled up 10 times worse and less than half a year and they refused to honor their work. I believe it was finishing touches, I should have just taken the $1,500 and got in the car painted. It just sucks that I still owe 6k on this car and I have to repaint the quarter panels.

    Thank you for such an excellent video. You covered all issues so well there is no need for questions. I own a 2020 sr5 v6 and I found out that the transmission seemed to work erratically because it works also along with the front distancing sensor, so is more like a safety bonus feature like if someone cuts in front of you it will try to slow down. Anyway I have put only about 2500 miles on it and I love this truck, the only thing that bothers me is definitely the rear view mirror seems to big and low blocking some of my view specially when turning right.

Chances are, there was something wrong with it long before the fluid was changed. That said, we as car owners are allowed to use whatever we want to....fluids, brake pads, rotors, fan belts etc. and it doesn't void warranties.

Started again at 18000 miles, which brought me here trying to decide if I want to do myself or take for my last warranty claim before the warranty is up. Leak is apparent when interior dome lights would stay on when on auto mode, even when driving.

    Nice video! 2017 automatic SR5 4x4 V6 w/ tow package, 50k miles been west to east coast twice. No issues mechanically so far for me. Only issue have had was water leaking into headliner from rear cargo light, I suspected a bad gasket. Simple fix with silicon until I replace someday.
    As far as shifting goes it definitely likes to hunt for low rpms when changing cruising speed around town, and noticed some hard down shifting due to that tuning when I decelerated quickly to stop. Had to change my driving habits and really let the shifting do more work accelerating and decelerating. I will say it doesn’t shift as smooth as a lot of automatics I have driven such as some subarus. However this little truck runs like a dream off road and for me has just been a great vehicle. Nothing is perfect but this truck has been close to perfect for me. Hope this puts some other owners at ease. Peace.

      Transmission tune on the automatics from the factory are pretty crappy. I find myself lifting off the throttle to force a shift pretty regularly. It “hunts” for gears. Aftermarket tunes seem to be the solution, “speed boost” looks like it gives you the most options for the price, with presets ranging from economic to race.

    The delayed downshift and gear "hunting" in cruise has been a common Toyota truck auto trans issue going way back to the 2005 five speed. This is a separate issue from hard shifts and delayed engagement. It was programmed this way to maximize gas mileage by keeping rpms low. They just went too far and made it annoying. 2005 Tundra in my case, not just 3rd gen Tacoma.

      That’s funny. I’m new to Toyota, and it doesn’t bother me because I like the older, great, tough design. The wife’s 2020, and my 2021 4Runner does the same. I usually just foot drive instead of the hunting cruise control. It’s downhill to work 6900 ft to 5000 ft over 62 miles, so I use it the one way.

    Everyone complaining about the tacoma bogging down, if not already done check with both tsb update and make your dealership perform it free of charge. Than you should notice an improvement immediately driving it off the lot. Remember this type of transmission is design to learn the way you normally drive after it does this you should be satisfied granted you didn't add a bunch of extra weight to the truck. Good luck to all.

      @@1AAuto - Did you get paid by Ford, GM, or Chrysler? I traded my 2016 Tacoma SR5 2WD on 10-3-2020 for a 2020 Ford Ranger XLT 2020 2WD. The Tacoma had around 75,000 miles on the odometer and the trade-in value was close to $22,000. Also, I never had any problem with the crankshaft sensor issue which was recalled by Toyota on 7- 24-2017. I did not watch to the end of this video, but other issues mentioned in this video can be fixed for free at the dealerships. These issues are covered by TSBs. No pickup trucks in this world are perfect. Overall, I do like my Ranger very much, but I need to bring in to the dealership some day because it has a rough transmission shifting from start to 50mph - 60 mph. If you want to learn all problems with the 2019-2020 Ford Ranger, such as Fuel In Oi, shuddering/vibration problems with the driveline, etc..., go to www.ranger5g.com. You should make a video for the 2019-2020 Ford Ranger with all the problems.

      2019 fuel pump recall also. What i think is the serpentine belt, starts squeaking horrendously the other day. After researching and what you said, maybe its a pulley instead. The battery leaks causing corrosion at the base of the positive terminal. I have 1 month of warranty left to see whats up.

Also had low compression and cylinder wall scoring with no explanation the motor had to be rebuilt. Cold start pop 5/7 days a week it’s a know issue has the leak down test and what do you know 2 out of 4 cylinders were bad. Get a leak down test before you are out of warranty!!! Rings were fried! Rebuilt the motor and Toyota bought it back because it still had cold start pop. Trucks run lean! Cause premature wear on your motor. Hence why they ditched the 5spd because they have had issue with cold start pop and my lo l dealership buys one back a week.!! No joke!!!

    Question. I took my 2021 Tacoma TRD Off-road 4x4 off-roading one time on a pretty steep muddy hill. My truck was rolling backwards while in the Drive mode and I slowly pressed on the gas pedal to go up. At that time, I heard some grinding noise along with the Traction Control button turning on and blinking. I don't know, can this ruin the transmission? One other time just days after going off-roading that one time, I shifted my truck into Reverse and it didn't even go. I looked around my tires to see if an object was in the way of it to prevent the truck from moving but nothing was there. I kept on testing the truck in Reverse and it has been working fine then. Is my transmission affected? Please help, kinda worried. I don't see any warning lights so there doesn't seem to be any problems. Thanks!!

    Experienced a rough and sudden back shift on our 2017 v6 Tacoma when slowing down to come to a stop. They did re program it but still does this on occasion. Going down a hill and making a right turn it sometimes acts like the transmission is low on fluid. Pressing the accelerator down and there is nothing and as the engine rpm increases it will suddenly take off and go. Doesn't do this every time and it is recorded at the dealer. The lag in the accelerator is pretty well always there too. RPM doesn't return to normal quickly enough after starting the engine. Stays at about 1200 rpm for a long time when cold and remains elevated on re starts after it has warmed up. Thanks for sharing the info on the Tacoma'a.

    Sounds like these are mostly small, stupid things that go wrong, but cause big problems. I feel like my 2007 GMC Canyon rivals the Tacoma for reliability. After 14yrs and 113k miles, it's had no mechanical issues and leaks no fluids at all. Not even any seepage. The 3rd brake light was leaking water around 40k miles. I replaced the cheap foam gasket myself. Took 5mins and cost less than $5. A sensor related to the emissions system was replaced somewhere around 50k miles under warranty. The ignition had an electrical issue at 70k miles. I don't recall the cost out of pocket. I really can't complain. Still runs like a top and they are known to go 200k-300k miles. To sweeten the pot, I bought it as a new leftover for $12,800 out the door. SL trim with the optional 5cyl. It's proving to be a fantastic value. I'm not sure the Tacoma can even beat that kind of value.
