These are good trucks, but they are definitely put on a pedestal. More than they deserve compared to other trucks IMHO. We have been running Colorado/Canyon pickups at work. Extremely reliable. The first ‘15 went 375k on the original engine/trans and then went to 460k after replacing. We have a ‘19 with 295k now. Minor things here and there, but no failures that took them off the road. Brakes go over 100k between replacing. Two other Colorados with ~150k, no major problems. All are mid-grade 4x4s. The full-size Chevy/GMC trucks tend to have more issues and definitely go through transmissions.

2017 Tacoma. 2 Hit and Run accidents. One was to the front wheel by a 96 mustang bent the wheel and suspension units and it was still running and I drove off to the side. Still turned on and spinned for the tow truck as well. Second one was parked at a casino and hit in the front. Still turned on and ran. 90k now running smooth and the collision center guy was impressed because he made it new twice now. Geico hates it though 😂.

I just recently bought a '17 TRD Offroad I found used. It had everything I wanted, all the bells and whistles with a 6 speed manual trans, but it had 157k miles before I bought it. I was a little leery buying a vehicle with that many miles but owning a Tundra with 185k miles I knew Toyotas were good. My Tacoma is in great shape, little surface rust here and there and after I got it I changed the tranny and diff fluids, but they weren't in as good condition as that trucks though, they definitely needed to be changed. I can't wait to see how far she goes past 200,000.

Very nice man! I had my 2004 Tacoma with 214k miles before I sold it to get a 4 door and the engine was running like new. I didn't have any axel issues. I only had the change the driveshaft, but that was because of the lift I had on the truck. I now have a 2015 and I'm approaching 100k miles. Not that many vehicles out there you can drive with peace of mind after 100k.

Me and my sons have lived through 3 Tacoma’s. 2001 Tacoma we sold 187,000 miles. Brake cylinder and radiator replaced. Sold it for 6500. 2005 clear coat fading on roof. Sold it for 12,000. 2010 124,000 miles. 0 , ZERO, problems. Selling for 20k because my son bought a 2019 long bed Tacoma. Today I drive an FJ CRUISER and my other son just bought a well cared for 2001 4runner. None of our vehicles have let us down. Thank you Toyota.

I was buying Toyota trucks when they were called the Hilux. They were Very Durable. Yep they were smaller pickups but they were Forced to do heavy duty work on our 17 thousand acre ranch.
In the 80s Toyota came out with a 1 Ton, Diesel Hilux pickup. We beat the soup out of that truck, but it Never let us down.
We were so impressed by it that a few years later we wanted to buy another one but Toyota had discontinued it. It finally gave up the ghost after 1 million miles of HARD LABOR.

My ‘17 manual has held up really well. My only gripe is the gearing ratio itself. 1st feels like 2nd and 6th feels like 9th. A lot of research leads back to being slightly underpowered, but IMO they should be 5.29(?) from the factory.

Toyota reliability and longevity is unequaled. I have a 2020 Tacoma. It’s my third Toyota truck. They’re the only vehicles I’ve ever owned where I’ve done scheduled maintenance only. No repairs. I had a Honda Odyssey that went through 3 power steering pumps, power steering rack, tie rods, 2 drive shafts, alternator, AC compressor, lower control arm bushings ( you have to replace the entire arm ), catalytic converter, oil pan gasket, roller hinges on side door, ignition switch. I drove this van 294,000 miles and finally gave up after the transmission started to go. There seems to be a world of difference the way Toyota builds vehicles from any other manufacturer, including Honda. That Odyssey kept my mechanic in business. Toyota trucks are the best vehicles on the market. I don’t think anyone else comes close!

On 2/29/24 I had the choice between a slightly used (6K mile) 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, premium pkg, 6’ bed or an identical 24 Tacoma.
Ultimately I chose the 23, ONLY because of the proven 3.5L Naturally Aspirated (NA), V6.
Historically a Turbo engine simply doesn’t last as long as a NA engine.
Who cares if the new Turbo gets 1mpg better fuel economy?
The most miles I ever put on a vehicle was a 78 Corolla. It died in 02 with 488K miles.
My last Toyota had the 3.5L engine and when I sold it for my 23 Tacoma, it had well over 200K miles and it was still running like new.
I drive about 5-6K miles per year now and even though I’m almost 60 years old, I plan on driving my Tacoma until either I can no longer drive or I’m dead.

Great video. Can you speak on why some dealers are pushing coolant fluid swap, auto trans fluid swaps, rear differential fluid swap, front transfer case fluid swap and brake fluid swaps (with or without pad replacement)? Some of these as early as 30 k but all by 60K. My Tacoma is new 2022. I put 30k easy miles on it this first year. Im allways torn between doing none of the above or paying for all these services. Are they doing this just to rip me off or are some of these legit and if so when would you do them? I plan on keeping this Tacoma until she dies and at 30k a year, I will be taking into the deep end with mileage in the future. I'm just confused as to how to best care for it. I do all my own oil, filter and tire rotations and I am ok with preventative measures so long as they are really necessary. appreciate your thoughts

Best advice I can give you, watch my breakdown video on the service intervals… it’s on the 4runner but exactly the same for the Tacoma.
      th-cam.com/video/by3fumvXrfU/w-d-xo.html
Anything being pushed earlier then those intervals, don’t fall for it.
Dealers are more interested in your wallet then saving you money.

As long as the service records are the way they should be… yes.
If they are not ask questions, you can use that in your favor to haggle the price down.

My first new car was an '07 Tacoma v6 4.0l. I still own it and it drives butter smooth and last trip I did cross country I averaged 22-23 mpg highway. And just recently bought a '22 Tacoma trd off-road. The engine and transmission is kinda crap compared to my '07 but it's better than anything else on the market. I am off-road a lot and a full size would not fit on the roads I take. Love the Tacoma.
My '07 Tacoma is somehow rust free. I just installed new suspension on it and everything unbolted like new without a speck of rust.

Thank you. How reliable is a 2016 4cyl at or above 300k?

@Goodwood356 those engines are my opinion even more reliable than the 6cyl . I’ve soon a few up there, no issues

I’m always amazed at how people have such little care & regard for their vehicles. The inside of your truck looks like a trash can. I like buying used vehicles, but so many vehicles are like this - beat to heck & never waxed or properly maintained. The miles achieved are fine, but I had over 200K on my Chevy Silverado & it still looks new. Why not take some time to clean your truck & not treat it like a rental?

Not my Truck. It’s a customer’s truck. My Truck gets vacuumed inside at least once a month. 👍🏻

Just found your channel. Do you know if Toyota is still replacing the frames from the 2006 and up Tacoma’s under warranty . Have they stopped doing replacements for the recall. Also does it matter if you are the original owner or the second or third owner to get the frame replaced. Any help would be appreciated. I couldn’t find anything that said wether they were still honoring the recalls and what the conditions were

Don’t hesitate to take it to the dealer , if the recall is still open and you do have perforation on the frame
(regardless of what # owner you are)
They will replace the frame. I hope this information was helpful. Thank you for watching. I very much appreciate your support! 👍🏻

I drove an 06 for 15 years, daily. Salty roads and the frame was only real issue. Some wear parts were replaced...ball joints, brakes, sway bar bushings, u joints. Other than that sort of thing I had 170000 miles of the best vehicle I will probably have ever owned. Traded for a 21 last year. Oops. 😑
