Coming up on 100,000 miles on my Tacoma with 0 issues so far...Just spent $336 on a bunch of parts you have listed to do myself at home. Dealership quoted me over $1,700. You're a lifesaver! Amazing videos as always. And excited to see that bumper 😉

Just watched this out of boredom but for anyone else like me, pretty much every part of this maintenance applies to every vehicle(except EV's lol). Obviously the actual work may not be the exact same process, but even that's 99% the same deal. Nice guide.
@@teamoildrop Would be nice to have this for a 2nd gen Tacoma. But like the man said. 99% will be pretty much the same. BTW. Those maps really are nice.

You have the best how to, Tacoma maintenance videos hands down. So simple and clearly explain that an amateur like myself in maintenance have done just about all my own maintenance.
For the trans, I drained and refilled (running through drive and reverse multiple times between each) x3. On the third time is when the fluid came out nice and fresh looking.
Always on the lookout for your videos man. These are the best videos for Tacoma maintenance. Your format makes sense, straight to the point. Whats required, what’s recommended. Torque specs always included in the videos. Thank you for doing this.
Thank you brother! Love to hear it. A short list of what I owe us when I get back to the states is brake fluid and I believe I may have a minor power steering leak, or at least some dampness from it 👀
One item to add….if you live where they salt the roads, get an annual or every other year rust proofing oil based spray. A well maintained mechanical system won’t help if the body/frame rots away. Obviously this is mainly for those who want to keep their vehicles longer than 10 years

Extremely useful video. I purchased a 2023 Tacoma to avoid the issues and gremlins of the new redesign. These maintenance tips are vital to keeping not just the Tacoma but any vehicle running for a long time. Surprised I have not run across this channel before. Subbed.
I have a Gen 2 but love the channel. The evil laugh got a little over done and annoying, but otherwise I think this was a great video and am excited to use them in the future for any work I need to do!

This is amazing, I just bought a Tacoma with about 22k miles on it and this gives me super useful info to know what and when I should maintain. Thanks!
Ran into ya today by chance, and I’m happy I did! Bought my first taco this year and I fully intend on tackling regular maintenance to keep him running until the wheels fall off. Thank you for extending this resource to me!
Thank You! I wish that I had found your videos sooner. Replacing the serpentine belt was a pain because my ratchet had too much travel before it clicked. I just ordered my third Taco. I had Gen 2 and Gen 3. I'll be following,
Just found your channel and subscribed to it. I just bought out my 21 lease. As a former mechanic maintenance is the key. Thanks for creating this video
A nice summary video! I have 70K on my 2018 and have done all the ones in the video, except for the brakes. I have new rotors and pads, but still have life on my current brakes. Hope the little one is doing well,
Donald, the kid is too cute. He had a random 2 week bout of covid, followed by RSV, followed by a double ear infection, but was smiling through all of it. Since then he's been 100%. Lana is doing agreaty job with him while I've been out of country. Thanks for the words! 🍻
i've had five toyota trucks , all new . the first one i got was when toyota was dumping these trucks on the american market for $7000 dollars . they were made in Japan , were very basic , but bomb proof .i gave that one to my sister . her husband drove out to close to a half a million miles with only routine maintenance , tires , maybe a clutch etc . absolutely amazing . the quality became a bit less when they started to make them in the USA.
Not to mention with every new generation there’s dozens of more parts to go wrong. The old adage of Keep it simple stupid or KISS, doesn’t really apply anymore. Still great trucks, but yes, not as stonewall simple and problem free as the 80s
Yeah, you just got an instant like, sub, and add to favorites. Quick, concise, to the point, and under 10 minutes with resources linked in description, this channel is a god-send!
Just picked up an oil separator from J&L. My '19 Tacoma is almost at 60K miles so it's just about time to change the spark plugs. I've had a K&N cold air intake on it since i bought it five years ago, only have to clean it out once a year. The only maintenance item that I would add to this already great list is paint maintenance. Clay bar, polish, & waxing. Do that and there's no reason the paint should ever lose its deep shine.
Just got a 3rd gen with 60k miles i just did the oil change and was trying to read in the manual for the trans fluid change interval what mileage did you do yours at
As a mechanic I always encourage people to learn to do what they can on their vehicle. There will be no shortage of people willing to pay me for my skill but being self reliant is always a good thing
not jsut paying $250, but 50/50 or higher chance of them screwing it up in some way, likely damaging your truck. You have to do everything yourself now a days
2006 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 4.0 engine double cab long bed 3 inch lift with 315,144 miles. Maintenance keeps em going! Awesome using your coolant & transmission fluid videos. Simple, to the point and way better that others I have been accessing. Always done this stuff, except for brakes, however, you make it easy.
I thought the beauty of a Toyota was they last forever without regular maintenance. I had a 1985 4x4 pick up just changed the oil and it lasted over 300k.
I’d look at it this way: our Tacomas are built to last BUT can last longer when properly loved. If you take 10 tacos that only get oil changes and 10 tacos that get all the love, the majority of the maintained ones will last longer.
Whoever has the PH as seen on the plate, I salute you. If your transmission is sealed like my Tundra, then changing the transmission fluid is much more difficult than what your doing. Its a PITA. Great video. Keep'em coming.
Feeling like my learning journey has come a long way and starting to pay off. I am happy to see much of what I learned (in all separate videos) and need to do regarding maintenance could be summed up all in one video. Thanks for it! Extremely helpful for newb DIYers. Feels good to work and take care of our trucks - adds a lot of confidence to the longevity. I don't have a Tacoma and but everything applies. I have two 2006 4th gen 4runners. I know a handful of parts are interchangeable too for some Tacoma years. My V6's got 337k miles and V8's got 184k. Both going strong!
You have two EXCELLENT 4Runners with incredible engines… that 4.7…. As you know… bulletproof! Thanks for the words brother. Doing a video series on tools now.
Do not do 10,000mi on oil change. Do 5000. 10,000 is way to many miles for something that only costs $80. 10,000 interval will cause your engine to start to burn oil as the oil ring gets clogged with sludge in addition to other wear
Si si, 5k is definitely reccomended. Quality oil at 10k is safe... but who does that?? The real scary stuff is the syn oil you can buy now that says "GOOD FOR 20K MILES".... NO
I do oil at 5k miles. I do transmission, transfer case, and differentials at 30k miles. Oil is cheap, but engines and transmissions are extremely expensive.
man i just found your channel today and it's one of the best channels for diy stuff i've seen. i have a 2017 TRD OR. your vids will help me in the future with maintenance. short to the point without any fluff or rambling! keep doing your thing big dawg! thanks for these videos.
Thanky! Great tips! Tip: the A/C drain hose--replace with LONGER heater hose to dump condensed water on ground--it gets all that water OFF the frame which causes much rust.
75000 lightly used miles on our 2016 Tacoma TRD sport with the 3.5L V6. It has always been serviced regularly by the dealer. Was recently quoted $5500 to fix a leaking timing chain cover.
Yikes... yup, a somewhat common issue with our early 3rd gens. Human error and gasket application at fault. Look for a thread on Tacoma World by google searching "2016 Tacoma timing chain cover leak". Don't pay that.
never done shit for my vehicle on my own excepts fill it up with gas and drive it. got a tacoma once i joined the army last year and i wanna get a few tools and start following your videos and knocking some of this shit out on my own. super good breakdown of everything you could need. will definitely be revisiting your channel once i get the tools i need to change it. haven't looked yet but my '21 tacoma trd pro is at 25k miles. haven't had any issues with the brakes but i will check them and maybe switch them out while watching your video.
Excellent video, just one small but potentially life-saving suggestion: I noticed you used bricks or concrete blocks underneath your jack stands. I highly recommend you use wood instead. When brick or concrete experiences a load failure it fails catastrophically, meaning with little to no warning. It is not rare for people to be crushed underneath their vehicles when using brick or concrete blocks as lift supports
You've been busy! Great to hear you accomplished everything without much issue. Yes, it's a bit of a reach through the wheel well. But its certainly easier that from the lower side. 2 hours is a very good pace, especially if its your first time. Thanks Greg the Editor
Again your videos are the best I have seen. My son has the 2019 v6 Tacoma. We have been using these as references for the 100k miles service. I have the 2008 5.7 tundra and can’t wait for that series to be published. As I am approaching 100k miles on my tundra. Thankyou for these excellent tutorials
I ordered this precision machined aluminum adapter for around $248 that allows you to use a full size oil filter!!! You first unscrew the crappy OEM cartridge housing and screw on the adapter in place then screw on the full size oil filter. I use the Mobile 1 M1-204A. You have to increase the amount of oil to a total of 7 quarts for the 3.5 liter V6. No more making a mess removing the crappy cartridge during oil changes
2008 Tacoma 4x4 double cab 6 speed w/ 3.5 lift on 33” almost 400,000 miles. Toyota replaced the frame cab off at 200,000 miles, love them. I do a oil change every 30-40,000 miles change the tire when they go slick and drive the thing like a raped ape 🦍. I still bounce the rev limiter at least once a week. I am on my 2nd clutch because of how much weight I pull…. Tractor, over loaded trailer, ARB bumper, etc. The crazy thing about it, is that it still sounds and runs like the day I bought it used. Toyota is the way to go as far as maintenance free and reliability!!
@@Michael-hv5nfyou’ve been poorly feeding a beast for so long… she’s done her best (clearly) but how much longer will it run compared to if taken care of properly 🤷♂️ Time will tell
Bought mine 2 weeks ago, drove it for a week, in the shop now for an electrical problem and just heard about a recall for the rear end welds. 3 working days to get authorization to order the part. Becoming quite the ride.
@@teamoildrop I got it back for the weekend, took it back on Monday, and they've had it for another week. I'm getting another dashcam to record the dash while I'm driving. I think they've put more mileage on it than I have.

I wish the best of blessings for you and this channel this is my go to maintainance video guide. I change my trans fluid, oil, differential fuild , and spark plug with all the help from your videos happy 2024 to you n your family
I appreciate your hard work. I have your service log from Tacomaworld and used that to get my 30k service. Crazy how easy it was. Im ready to try my hand at the big 60k service when that comes up.
Thank you! Don't let the spark plugs intimidate, they arent all that abnd as long as you go in with the correct tools. Definitely have a small 12" step on the side to be able lean over into the engine bay better. Good luck! 🍻
Nice to see well thought out, clear explanation of the 5 W's for each task - you set the standard for how maintenance videos should be made. The fact that you're local is even better (I'm over by the new fire station off MR). I've had a 16 and currently have a 17 TRD-OR 6ft w topper, with a few Colorado kisses (hail dents and trail damage) that share garage space with the 98 TJ, a Subie, and a few other makes. Engine replacement on a CR-V with my daughter is the next fun (not!) in the hopper - no really good videos for the 4th gen of these, unfortunately.
Ah a Springs local! Love to hear it. Unfortunatley my job will be sending me elsewhere in the near future. This time we are getting a 3 car garage haha. I've got one very obvious colorado kiss on my hood. I tried pulling it and ended up turning the dent from concave to convex.... now ive got one small lump 🤣 Good luck with the CR-V. I have always thought it was Honda's best vehicle. The wife is in the current gen and we love it. Thank you for the words and take care! 🍻
Hope you have one of the "funner" locations lined up, and not just the usual or god forbid Polk or any of the locations in Georgia! The Honda has been a great vehicle, but the dealer dorked the timing chain when the VTEC actuator was replaced for the rattle. The pistons and the valves played bongo for a moment or two when the chain let go. @@teamoildrop
My Taco has just over 20,000 miles and EVERYTHING underneath is getting really rusty. (Its never been off road) I have a little Mitsubishi mirage with 150,000 miles that is way older and the undercarriage looks way better. I would reccomend going under the Tacomas immediately after driving it off the dealers lot, and coating everything you can with a zinc rust inhibiting paint, and then coating it with whatever protects against moisture.
Unfortunately with the large amount of steel components under the Tacoma's, they do start to show rust before their unibody counterparts. We highly recommend a lanolin based oil coating get applied at least once per year, ideally in the fall before winter comes. -Austin
Hello! Thanks for sharing. This is very cool. My dad has a Tacoma and I can see taking on some projects with him due to the help of your videos. Good channel, solid content, thank you for sharing!
Great detailed video. Simple overlooked items. Are the breathers on top of the differentials . Also, in engine bay for transfer case and transmission. Make sure they aren't clogged. Take them off and clean with some brake cleaner.
You’re welcome! And yes, they most definitely can and will do that. Look up Enduro Cox on TH-cam and see his 300k plus 3rd gen Tacoma that’s been used HARD all its life
What a great video! I wish you could do one for 2/2.5 Tundras. But Tacos aren't that much different. Some maintenance items I do that I didn't see on the list: greasing suspension components (joints, UCAs, etc), check torque specs for suspension components (if you offroad), replace PCV Valves, brake fluid flush, fuel injection cleaning (if you don't drive on the highway often), and MAF/throttle body cleaning.
Thanks for the words! This may surprise you but quite a few of those are in the near to-do list. I just gotta get back from the other side of the planet where it’s 7am right now and having breakfast 😂
My serpentine belt on my '19 started chirping at only 30k miles. Easy replacement if you can find the keyway for the tensioner and bend the new belt where it needs to go. One issue I can't figure out is I get a shimmy in the steering when I do long braking. I replaced the pads and rotors and still get the shimmy.
Great tips on the belt install. My opinion on the brake shimmy. Rotors are warped, debris behind the rotors on the hub causing the rotors to not fully seat, or wheels are improperly torqued. Greg the Editor
Great content, I have done all items listed in video. One thing I would like to see is a video on front wheel alignment & how to straighten crooked steering wheel if need be.
I love the tasteful music in the beginning of the videos, I am new to the channel. Normally, i don't buy used vehicles. i sell/trade them before any goes even slightly wrong but now I just bought a used 2021 tacoma and i need to up my handy-man skills now.

@@syed22 hey brother! Thanks for the words. The basic info definitely applies but you won’t have exact parts such as rear drum brakes, similar transfer case, etc.

Hey Harold! Mobil 1 is my personal favorite. I even use their spin on filters now because I bought an adapter to allow it. I just had penz on hand that day. Welcome to the team! 🍻
Great list! given you're in Colorado undercoating is also key for most tacos in areas with snow. If you're interested we would be happy to supply some product for a review and to help keep the truck on the road longer.
I’ve been meaning to reach out to you actually! Moving to upstate NY soon and will be coating my vehicles with FF. That’s my 2024 taco (new to channel), my 2016 (featured here), and my wife’s CRV. I would love to cover your product in detail as I’m not new to it and feel it’s a real truck saver. I can be reached at teamoildrop at gmail and we can work something out!
I know the spark plugs last 120k miles being iridium but the rest of it is definitely pretty on. Also using the Valvoline squeezable quart bags make doing the front and rear diffs and transfer case a lot easier as well.
I’ve got 2011 Tacoma I bought new, 154000 miles on it. A/C is blowing warm. Took to certified A/C shop, they said evaporator is bad. It’s behind dash, 10 hour job they said, price quote $1750-$1800
Amazing video! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge in such an easy format. I've become so much more mechanically inclined because of guys like you making videos. DIY's love him, Stealerships hate him!!
I'm fairly up to par on most of these service items for my 2013 2wd 4.0 V6 Tacoma, but thanks to your video the Rear Diff Fluid and the Driveshaft Grease is now on my radar. I SHOULD probably change the Rear Brakes as well, bought this truck at 97k miles, up to 107k mi mark now... but do I REALLY have to?.... 😅
I bet you “don’t have to” but I’d definitely check… there’s no telling how heavy on the brakes the last guy was… Welcome to the team! Join the discord for quick answers to questions! 🍻
@@teamoildrop Yeah that's true. I'll take you up on your advice! While I have you here... If you don't mind... have you heard of any Taco owners having a shudder at 40-50mph sometimes? I got the transmission fluid replaced at 100k mi, but from the Toyota Service Center, and got the filter and a ECU/TCU reflash from a local shop and Transmission shop respectively (and even more recently) which helped a great deal although it still happens occasionally. Should I check the trans fluid myself? Is my transmission on the way out? It's a nuisance I can learn to live with, but I've been trying to address it in case it's a bad sign. Edit: I apologize if these follow up Qs were overstepping, I understand that you guys aren't my own personal mechanic! Regardless I really appreciate the video.

$7000 dollars . they were made in Japan , were very basic , but bomb proof .i gave that one to my sister . her husband drove out to close to a half a million miles with only routine maintenance , tires , maybe a clutch etc . absolutely amazing . the quality became a bit less when they started to make them in the USA.
Not to mention with every new generation there’s dozens of more parts to go wrong. The old adage of Keep it simple stupid or KISS, doesn’t really apply anymore. Still great trucks, but yes, not as stonewall simple and problem free as the 80s

NO
Yup … I use full syn and change mine around 4500 … 180k miles on 2011 Elantra with regular port injection … no leaks and doesn’t burn a drop oil

If done properly, with the right tools, either system can be nearly 100% mess free.

My Taco has just over 20,000 miles and EVERYTHING underneath is getting really rusty. (Its never been off road)
I have a little Mitsubishi mirage with 150,000 miles that is way older and the undercarriage looks way better.

One issue I can't figure out is I get a shimmy in the steering when I do long braking.

My opinion on the brake shimmy. Rotors are warped, debris behind the rotors on the hub causing the rotors to not fully seat, or wheels are improperly torqued.

Hey Harold! Mobil 1 is my personal favorite. I even use their spin on filters now because I bought an adapter to allow it. I just had penz on hand that day. Welcome to the team! 🍻
Awesome video. You have me pumped up to do some work on my Tacoma. Thank you !!!
Heyyy love to hear it. Maintenance should be fun given the right tools and chill spot to complete it in. Thanks for the words 🍻
Great list! given you're in Colorado undercoating is also key for most tacos in areas with snow.
Thanks for the comments......greatly appreciated

Love these videos. Makes doing the maintenance on my truck worth doing myself.
I’ve got 2011 Tacoma I bought new, 154000 miles on it. A/C is blowing warm. Took to certified A/C shop, they said evaporator is bad. It’s behind dash, 10 hour job they said, price quote $1750-$1800
Get more quotes. Unfortunately, even recharging the AC on these trucks is not a DIY task anymore. Not a safe one anyway.
Amazing video! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge in such an easy format. I've become so much more mechanically inclined because of guys like you making videos. DIY's love him, Stealerships hate him!!
🍻 love it brother! Save that money and gain those skills.
I bet you “don’t have to” but I’d definitely check… there’s no telling how heavy on the brakes the last guy was…
