Got my 23 Tacoma 3 months ago and these were great tips man! I've been going NUTS over how to stop the back seatbelts from rattling all the time! Thanks!
Don’t worry, give it time, and the many sounds of your squeaking, rattling dash will drown out your rear seatbelts anyway. I’m a Toyota guy, but my 2016 has the noisiest dash I’ve ever heard, starting from 20,000 kms, and twice as bad when it’s cold in winter. If you’re bothered by sounds, get ready to go insane, or leave the stereo up. Lol
I was wondering why the rear headrests folded down, now I know. So I can see out the back more clearly. Thanks for the tip about the rear headrests fitting into the seat when it is folded forward. The manual said that they would do that but I could not get them to fit. After watching you insert them into the seat I pushed them right in. Marvelous.
One I have that is nice. It has been so annoying to drive in the snow and not be able to actually turn off the traction control. If you push the button is diminishes it but it’s still activated. I found if you hold the traction control button while in park, another light on the dash appears and fully disengages traction control
I just found your page. You obviously have that uncanny perception for the obvious. lol After putting almost 300,000 miles on my 2004 Tundra Double Cab 4.7 L, LTD, TRD with All Weather package, the frame rot is forcing me to trade for a Tacoma SR, Access Cab, 2.7L 4 cylinder, 6' bed 4×4. I'm surfing YT pages for info on this model to convince myself that I'm on the right "no bells & whistles" track. At 73, I'm just looking for economical transportation in a truck. You have a new subscriber.
Frame rot caused me to trade ‘02 Tundra, 312k mi. For ‘21 Tacoma V6 4dr long bed. Love it, but miss the powerful torque of the V8 Tundra. But 24-25 MPG better than 16-17 MPG.
This is good to know. I put in an order for a 2023 Tacoma last week. It'll be 6-12 months before it's built but once it's here I'll be making use of this info for sure.

Thanks my man. I've had my Taco for a few months now and you taught me something new. I did not know the head rest back seat hack. I will definitely be flipping them all the way down now and putting hunting gear there instead of on the leather seat. Thanks.
................... THE BACK SEAT.............!! ! ! OMG. I have owned this truck since 2010. Never knew there was a fold down seat..... AND a storage box to keep valuables. AMAZING. THANKS.
This is an incredibly useful video! Especially the headrest and seatbelts. Up till now I’ve had to leave the rear headrests at home if I needed to fold the seats. Or not frustrate rear passengers trying to find the seatbelt buckles. Toyota, rock solid reliability and coffee-drinker friendly to boot.

Thanks for the video. I'm in the process of selling my full size diesel and have been contemplating getting a Tacoma. Seeing this just may have sealed my choice. Thank you very much. Have a blessed day.
We have a 2001 Toyota in Tacoma. We love it. We bought it in a used car lot last year & paid for it in cash. It was my husband's birthday/Father's day gift🦋💚🥰🙏🌻
On most Toyota vehicle's, the metal door latches inside the door frames can be used as a bottle opener. However, I noticed they changed the design on the 3rd gen Tundra so I wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of it on the new Tacoma also.
I like the feature where you squeeze the left side of the driver’s door handle to lock the doors, and make it beep twice to deactivate the key fob. I think that is what happens. Until you return and pull the handle and it unlocks the driver door.
The 2nd gen also has a lot of these features on the interior, in fact the entire rear seat of the Tacoma is exactly the same between the 2nd and 3rd gen. Nice having the fold-down seats with the hard plastic backing for larger items. The removable cup holders and the dimmable gauge cluster were also on the 2nd gen too, just in a more basic way. Toyota really thought through the interior design even way back in 2004 when the 2nd gen Tacomas debuted.
@@tommyboy0379 Yes, since the rear seat is identical in both the 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas, you still have to remove the rear headrests. Not too difficult but I can see it still being an inconvenience. Gas cap still twists off. The fuel-door is pretty much the same on the 2nd and 3rd gen. Thinking of buying a locking cap or something. Would’ve thought that the 3rd gen would have a fuel door that locks by now.
@@TJFT1234 to be honest not really sure what he meant by “old fashioned” but I just assumed he was asking if it’s just as basic as the 3rd gen is, which it is. Not really any changes that I can think of to make a gas cap more high-end. Still think it would be nice if the fuel-door locked. I’m assuming the 2024 model will have it all changed.
Just traded in my 2014 Tacoma (Was a bit sad) for a 2023 Tacoma (Happy) and these were good to see, some of them I did not know especially that rear seat one so thanks.
Just encase it hasn't been mentioned, when you leave the door open when outside of the cab, you can turn off the chiming by pressing and releasing the light button on the door frame.
Thank You! I have one for you…look next to the drivers seat on the floor you’ll find a perfect spot for a steering wheel lock. I don’t think they designed it for that, but the key locking mechanism fits in the little half circle before the seatbelt on the floor. It fits perfectly and is stored out of the way.
I have a 2020 Tacoma I bought brand new in July '20. Since it was during Covid, the dealership could not give me their usual tour of the vehicle. So, I missed out on all the features of that would have been normally showcased during their typical dog and pony show. Plus, who really reads the manual, right? lol... This video blew my mind! I had zero clue about all the backseat features, but I will use them religiously from now on. Thank you for making this video!
Dude thanks for that fold down rear seats feature #1. Its just me and the wife. We rarely drive additional people. Having that hard surface to cart plants, groceries etc is great. The added greater visibility is great too. Props!
Just picked up my 2023 SR5 long bed this past Tuesday and immediately felt the lack of interior storage that my 2008 Tundra had. You just made my day and upcoming trip to NC so much better with Tip #1!! Even my sales guy didn't know to show me that feature, and he also has a Tacoma.
These are little things that you find out about after owning a vehicle for several years, and then suddenly it hits you "Wow, I never knew it could do that!" 😎
You can set your interior lights not to turn on when you open the door, you can set your car not to honk every time you lock or unlock it. I love this feature, when you go hunting you want to be as quiet as possible. 👍🏻
2nd Gen has the headrest tilt, but different mechanism. Has the holder in the seat bottom, clip on the pillar, and the pockets for the seatbelt--I use both of the last two all the time because I use the storage bins on the regular. BUT, they screwed us on the bed light... we don't have one.

I have been going down a TH-cam Tacoma rabbit hole. It started when I was thinking about finally getting one. Mine is scheduled to come in this Wednesday!!!! WOOT!!! Thanks for the helpful tips.
Nothing new for me, but will be useful for others. The gas cap one, doesn't work out to well during below zero days. I've heard of people snapping the tether/string when it got too cold, if it doesn't get to cold where you are then you're good.
I just bought my 2023 Tacoma it only has 40 miles on it the back seat folding down and the head rest is awesome I would have never known this I will have much more room for groceries now thank you.
I haven't seen anyone else bring it up, so I'll throw it out there. I was dicking around with the key fob and the truck started! WE HAVE REMOTE START FROM THE KEYFOB!! They don't tell you this because they're trying to get app subscribers. You press lock 2x then long hold lock, and the truck will start. At least mine does. I have a 2021 DCSB w/auto trans.
Ya I was going to add that one to the video but I am thinking about making a video about all the ways to optimize your driving experience and have that one in that video. What do you think? You think people would watch that one?
I’m considering purchasing a Tacoma and these tid bits are excellent, the one where you turn down the brightness on the dash is most helpful if you have tinted windows, with it turned down it helps with the glare in the driver side window and I’m able to see better at night
Just bought a 2023 trd sport yesterday you have some good information, I didn't even think about any of this just learning the new truck. I love the Tacoma, had an older one and put a lot of miles on it with no problems at all, very dependable trucks that hold their value very well.good video.
Right on Doug that’s awesome man! They seriously are the most reliable Trucks out there! I wish I got the sport but it was either get the sport in black or my voodoo blue sr5. I had to go with the limited edition because it’s just an awesome color.
Several of your tips apply to my Tundra. The rear seat belt clip is on my Tundra. The cup holder clip is also on my Tundra. The thing about Toyota is they have economy of scale. I bet if you took apart a lot of Toyota's they would all have the same door light switches and things like that. So Toyota makes somethings pretty universal. One difference is my Tundra rear seats only the bottom folds up. The top part of the seat does not fold down like the Tacoma. I have a factory box that sits under the seats that was optional. That is handy to keep things under the seats from sliding around.
You mentioned the dash lights dimming, but there is also the audio panel daylight vs night settings. Bring up the menu and choose display and it gives the option to either turn on or turn off daylight setting.
I love my army green 2022 Tacoma, your rear seat head rest hidden feature made me run out to my truck and lay down my seats, very cool, and the seat belt Pockets, awesome, great vid, thank you..

I started to watch this video and paused the video to check out the back cab features as you presented them. Funny after owning the 2017, now 6 years old, I have NOT noticed ANY these features, but so happy to have learned from this video. My guess is you have the 2021 afer the implementation of Apple CarPlay / Android Auto. In any event---- Thanks !!!
Best add on ever for a Tacoma are "Seat Jackers" by Desert Does It. They make the front seats so much more comfortable as they add leg support. I have the 2020 TRD Off Road Premium with power seats and they add just enough support to actually make notoriously "flat" Tacoma seats comfortable. They are a bit pricy at about 100 bucks but worth every cent and easy to install. I had a 2017 Tacoma I sold due to the uncomfortable seats, especially on long drives. I got the 2020 when the started to offer power seats and it was much better but the Seat Jackers made the seating position so much better. Disclaimer.....I am NOT a paid spokesperson...just wanted to pass on a wonderful item for your Tacoma.
100% agree. I was skeptical about them but after a 3600 mile road trip in my Tundra I was ready to give anything a try so I got one set for my driver seat. It's ridiculous how much more comfortable driving is. They are pricey but they're also made in the US and I don't see any competition in the "make Toyota seats more comfortable" space
Totally agree. I bought a set on knockoffs from eBay, because I wanted to try before investing in the real deal. I am getting the desert does it kit soon
Totally agree with my colleagues here...Seatjackers are a gamechanger in terms of comfort and upper leg support- best aftermarket money I've spent on my Taco!

Got my 23 Tacoma 3 months ago and these were great tips man! I've been going NUTS over how to stop the back seatbelts from rattling all the time! Thanks!
Literally me too I love my car
Don’t worry, give it time, and the many sounds of your squeaking, rattling dash will drown out your rear seatbelts anyway. I’m a Toyota guy, but my 2016 has the noisiest dash I’ve ever heard, starting from 20,000 kms, and twice as bad when it’s cold in winter. If you’re bothered by sounds, get ready to go insane, or leave the stereo up. Lol
Thank you. So many people comment on the gas cap hold. They say Tacoma doesn’t have one. You proved them wrong. Thanks
Dang right I did hahaha
I was wondering why the rear headrests folded down, now I know. So I can see out the back more clearly. Thanks for the tip about the rear headrests fitting into the seat when it is folded forward. The manual said that they would do that but I could not get them to fit. After watching you insert them into the seat I pushed them right in. Marvelous.
One I have that is nice. It has been so annoying to drive in the snow and not be able to actually turn off the traction control. If you push the button is diminishes it but it’s still activated. I found if you hold the traction control button while in park, another light on the dash appears and fully disengages traction control
Good tip, I will have to add that to another video!
Jacob what year tacoma do you have?
I looking to see if anyone else knew about this one! 2020
Damn it! Ive had a taco for 2 years and this has always bothered me. lmao! Thank you!
it does this in drive, neutral, reverse, and S. does not need to be in park. just hold the button.
Oh wow thats a long time to wait but I am happy to show you some tips so you can be fully equipped for when it comes
6to12 months! OMFreakinG!
I bought a brand new tacoma yesterday, and when I drove it home, about 180 miles, i gassed up and i was looking at that clip trying to figure out how it hooks on, i just hooked the edge of my gas cap over the clip, i knew it was wrong, now you showed me right. thanks for the guidance. 👍
Nice! Congrats on the new purchase! Glad I could help! Thanks for the comment and support!
Thank you for all these hidden features. I have a 2017 off road and didn’t know not even one of what you mentioned lol. Can’t wait to get home and try them all. Thank you
Thanks my man.
Just bought our 2023 Tacoma Limited two days ago. This is very helpful . So much easier to “see it “than to “read it”. Hope you do a video on the navigation system and gages . Thanks so much!
Thanks for the video. I'm in the process of selling my full size diesel and have been contemplating getting a Tacoma. Seeing this just may have sealed my choice. Thank you very much. Have a blessed day.
Glad I could help! That’s awesome Andrew!! Do you know what kind of Tacoma you are going to get?
4 years with my Tacoma sport, one recall and regular oil changes. Hasn’t let me down yet.
I just bought my first tacoma it's a 2017 sport 4x4. Thank you for the information
We have a 2001 Toyota in Tacoma. We love it. We bought it in a used car lot last year & paid for it in cash. It was my husband's birthday/Father's day gift🦋💚🥰🙏🌻
Excellent video, I just subscribed to your videos. I only wish the Toyota salesman who sold me my truck knew and explained all this.
Gas cap holder and the dash brightness. Thank you!!
On most Toyota vehicle's, the metal door latches inside the door frames can be used as a bottle opener. However, I noticed they changed the design on the 3rd gen Tundra so I wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of it on the new Tacoma also.
I spent 4 hours at a dealership today looking specifically at the TRD Sport and NONE of this was mentioned, including Siri . Thanks man
I have had a Tacoma for 11 years and learned a lot about my truck by watching this video Thank you Jacob.
I like the feature where you squeeze the left side of the driver’s door handle to lock the doors, and make it beep twice to deactivate the key fob. I think that is what happens. Until you return and pull the handle and it unlocks the driver door.
Should be able to just touch the wave areas top or bottom to activate. No pinching only light touch
Just bought my 2021 Tacoma, love that rear seat pull down for more room AND the seatbelt tricks. Good stuff.
Do you still have to remove the headrest just to fold down the rear seat ? Still has old fashioned twist off gas cap?
@@tommyboy0379 Yes, since the rear seat is identical in both the 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas, you still have to remove the rear headrests. Not too difficult but I can see it still being an inconvenience. Gas cap still twists off. The fuel-door is pretty much the same on the 2nd and 3rd gen. Thinking of buying a locking cap or something. Would’ve thought that the 3rd gen would have a fuel door that locks by now.
What is an old fashion twist off gas cap?
Not all 3rd generation models
I do that on my fridge when loading it up after a grocery store trip
Thank You! I have one for you…look next to the drivers seat on the floor you’ll find a perfect spot for a steering wheel lock. I don’t think they designed it for that, but the key locking mechanism fits in the little half circle before the seatbelt on the floor. It fits perfectly and is stored out of the way.
I did not know about the removable cup holder divider.. Thanks! I learn something new everyday about my Tacoma
I like the fact that you can still close the windows for a minute or so after ignition is off.
I bought a 2023 Tacoma crew cab three weeks ago and I'm finding new stuff on a regular basis. This is a great video!
I appreciate this. I just bought a '23 Tacoma and am waiting for it to be delivered.
Oh I am so jealous! You need to tell me how you like it when it comes in
Dude thanks for that fold down rear seats feature #1.
I've had 3 Tacomas, 17, 20 & now a 23 & I never knew many of those hidden features. Thank You Kindly!
Thank you for all of this. Just bought a 2022 Tacoma. You explained more about hidden gems then they did buying the truck. Thank you.
Omg that seat belt pocket thing is a life saver! Thx for sharing. 😊
Of course! I hope you liked the video? So is there a hidden feature you know that I didn't cover?
I sure don’t.
Thanks for the great video. I just bought a Tacoma and I've never had a Toyota before. All 9 are a great help to this new owner.
I was today years old when I learned about those seat belt pockets
Haha definitely a game changer, right?!? Seriously so genius of Toyota.
Thanks for this. I really enjoy my Tacoma I bought a month ago. It's a year old with 17K miles and got a good deal - these tips make it even better
Hidden feature #10: the engine doesn't break down like the ford and g.m. garbage.
HAHA I couldn't agree more to that statement 🤣🤣
Or the RAM....LOL
And yet you have to have a trailer to pick up some basic lumber ha ha
Dude, you’re some clueless clown…Ford trucks are awesome! Have owned F-150s, Lightnings, and still do a Ranger and F-350 besides my TOYOTAs. Learn facts before talking garbage…
@@brucepoole8552fits 4x8 sheets perfectly, I routinely get 10’ hardwood boards and strap them in the bed as well. All works perfectly. If we wanted a larger bed we would get a different truck.
I have been going down a TH-cam Tacoma rabbit hole. It started when I was thinking about finally getting one. Mine is scheduled to come in this Wednesday!!!! WOOT!!! Thanks for the helpful tips.
That is awesome! Welcome to the taco community!
Nothing new for me, but will be useful for others. The gas cap one, doesn't work out to well during below zero days. I've heard of people snapping the tether/string when it got too cold, if it doesn't get to cold where you are then you're good.
Well if you have to cut the tethers than you can get this accessory that you can add that is a "proper" gas cap holder. amzn.to/3D4EaF3
Good to know, I plan on taking some trips up north in the future and will definitely be careful!
@@mattedward6155 Definitely be careful my dude but have fun!
@@jacobhenrytacoma I bought this exact item as a Christmas gift for my son’s 21 Tacoma and it’s great!
Tried it on a 2018 TRD SPORT and didn't work
maybe try it again... 2 quick clicks and then hold on the third one until it starts.@@araldf
2023 did nt work @@araldf
tried this with 2020 off road. it didn't work
Worked for my 2022 Tacoma
The back seat features are great. I've been laying an old towel on my backseat to sit my dirty dinner bucket on from work.
On the 3G, press and hold cruise control to disable radar (adaptive) cruise control.
Ya I was going to add that one to the video but I am thinking about making a video about all the ways to optimize your driving experience and have that one in that video. What do you think? You think people would watch that one?
@@jacobhenrytacoma yeah man. Just put the content out there!
@@esd99will do!!
you can adjust the distance as well so you don't get cycled back all the time .
I’m considering purchasing a Tacoma and these tid bits are excellent, the one where you turn down the brightness on the dash is most helpful if you have tinted windows, with it turned down it helps with the glare in the driver side window and I’m able to see better at night
Glad I could help. Hope you get a Tacoma they are great and reliable. Which one are you looking at?

Very nice the dealer should be showing us this
They didn't do that at all
Man, did I learn a lot about my 2016 Tacoma today, now I love it even more!
I have a 2016 also, good to know they work. It's night time, so can't check right now lol
Wow, I’ve worked for Toyota Logistics for over 20 years and never knew about this.
My wife has hated the buckle problem since we bought our 2019 since brand new!! Thanks for sharing this!!!
Happy to help!
How dare you suggest that I get groceries in my Tacoma 😂😂😂
Dude, awesome video!!!!!! Just got my 2023 Tacoma, and knew none of these things. Subscribed, and Thank you !
The dash lights are able to change color via the info screen too which is really cool. I never knew about the backseat fold down trick.
I knew most of the features except 3. The gas cap, the brightness and the rear seat belt holder. thank you for all the new info on our Toyota Tacoma.
Wait they fold up? Now that is pretty cool
Take the seat belt one step further, and tuck the buckle part in the clip and it does not dangle.
The rear seat belt clips keep the seat belt away from the seat backs being raised and lowered.
Ya the Army Green is a good color! HAHA that made me laugh reading, I am glad I showed you something new!
me too on rear seat features...
@@davebenson1504 Pretty cool right!?
Nice video Jacob !! I have owned a 2nd GenTacoma (12 years) and a moved to a new 3rd Gen Tacoma (2017).
Lots of Chinese copies for less than half on Amazon 👍🏽
