I was a senior in high school when this came out in 1972. Everyone was playing this song and the girls were just eating it up and laughing their buns off. My what a fun time we had back then. We took it all in with a grain of salt. What memories...Chuck sure gave us all one to remember. Priceless!

@@degsbabe My senior class of 1972 just had their 50th year reunion. Cannot believe 50 years have gone by. Thank goodness I was born in the 50's to be able to experience the birth of Rock & Roll, the British invasion of the 60's starting with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. How the 60's ended with the grandest Rock & Roll festival 'Woodstock' back in (1969) ever!.What is not to like?

This was Chuck's first gold record. There's a long session where he teaches the audience to sing. The boys sing "Ding A Ling." The girls sing "I want you to play with my." You can hear it fairly clearly on this recording.

I love the story behind this song of how Chuck didn't want to record it due to it not being radio friendly. He had to be convinced to record it by the original writer and singer of the song that it will be great. To go from this backstory to watching him setup and manipulate the crowd it's just so much fun.

If I kept singing after she took her hand off my mouth, I’d find her hand on my behind! Hahaaaaa

I was in my early twenties when this came out. Those were fun, enjoyable open and progressive days. Days when we could speak and express freely without fear. How the humaneness has been removed from human life is a total mystery to me. I am so happy that you enjoyed this, although with a touch of shyness and a sense of embarrassment. Thank you for sharing dears. For me, Chuck Berry will always be the godfather of rock and Sister Rosetta Tharpe the fairy godmother of rock. All music is wonderful, but I am blessed to have grown up in the most musically magical times. Greetings from India.
