It seems like a whole new world is opening up for you two. Discovering all the great talent and class of the old Doo-wop groups and music from the past. This kind of music carried over into the 60's & 70's especially with some of the groups from Philadelphia- The Stylistics, The Intruders, The Originals, The Delfonics, and others.

The Flamingos were one of the early 50's doo-wop groups. They were known for their great harmonies & choreography moves. They influenced other acts such as The Temptations later on. "I Only Have Eyes For You" is their biggest hit but they had quite a few good songs "If I Can't Have You", "That's My Desire", "Golden Teardrops", "I'll Be Home", "Lovers Never Say Goodbye" etc.

I’m a 50-something-year-old guy who listens to mostly jazz, classical and folk music but suddenly had the urge to seek out this song, which I used to hear on the radio every once in a while as a “golden oldie” when I was younger. I listened to it and then saw this video in the feed and checked it out because I was curious. Let me just say, I really loved that the two of you were just getting into the sheer beauty of the song. The chord changes and harmonies have a magic to them. Sometime I’d like to see a video explanation of what musically makes this song so unique, but for now, just seeing you younger folks just bask in its beauty was rewarding in itself. We need more beauty in the world and more people who are not afraid to unashamedly be moved by beauty when they come across it. Bless you two.

My wife and I have been hypnotized by this song since it hit the radio in 1959.
It has always sounded like something you heard in a dream you had.
The song goes back before the Flamingoes had it.
But their guitar player heard a new way to do it in his dream the night before the session.
    That's where that shoo-bop shoo-bop came from.
He thought it would be cool to show people what his dream sounded like.
He was right and the song became a monster hit.
Showing folks a groovy thing and turning them on to it.
It's the same thing groovy people do no matter what year it is.
Come to think of it you guys are showing everybody groovy stuff and turning us on too.
It is just the same now as it was then!

I’ve always loved this song. Besides the voices and harmony, it has a great example of one of the hallmarks of 50s and 60s music-the BACKBEAT!
You hear the slow downbeat, but also the faster beat in the background, usually made by a piano or keyboard.
This song is such classic! One of so many great songs from “my era”.

"Sh-bop, sh-bop" Sweet! That piano and that guitar with the slight reverb and the sh-bop sh-bops give this song a mystery feeling that persists to this day. Credit The Flamingos with adding those parts to the song, which was written twenty five years before they made the song theirs with their 1959 recording of it.

Gotta dive into more too, like The Platters, Maurice Williams, etc. Nothing will ever be like this era, if course the 50s hold a special place in my heart.

Hi Shawn and Mel! I enjoyed your reaction very much. When I was a little girl my parents had several albums from a group called the Mills Brothers. I loved them and always asked my Mom to play their records. Groups like the Mills Brothers and the Ink Spot started performing in the 1930's. They developed a smooth rich textured sound that was the inspiration for all the wonderful doo-wop groups that came in the 1950's. I think you might really like them too. I hope I found another rabbit hole for you to go down. :). You guys are great keep up the good work. Here is a video I found of one of my favorite Mills Brothers songs, it is very sweet. th-cam.com/video/jskwqEmJzSE/w-d-xo.html

I was wondering when you guys were going to hear this one. One of the most iconic Doo Wop songs there was. This is one of those songs where you will never forget that you have listened to The Golden Age of Doo Wop.

This song was originally written in the 1920's, which just shows that great songs are always timeless as are great performances. BTW, the two of you have become my favorite reactors because you react to a much wider spectrum of music and bands, and your enthusiasm for these great songs matches my own

One of my top favorite song of all times. This also reminds off the movie, " A Bronx Tale" from 1993. The part with C and Jane. He's Italian and she's African American. I remember hearing it from American Graffiti too. Yall need to add this timeless classic on your Playlist. I can see in my mind when everyone either out crusing, or out parking over looking the city, hills or ocean.

This was absolutely "doo-wop", and there are few, if any, better examples of it. I had this played at my wedding, my wife had never heard it before (she was 10 years younger than me). It had the same effect on her that it had on Mel.
    Great choice, guys.
I would suggest another great "doo-wop" song as a companion piece to this, I think you'll like it as much if not more. It's called "Once in A While" by The Chimes, from around 1960 or so. Do yourselves--and your viewers--a favor and check it out.
