I bought a Ray II about a year and a half ago. It has consistently been more accurate than my Seikos with the 6R15 movement and even some of my Swiss watches with ETA movements.
I've had my Mako II (with Pepsi Bezel) for about 3 weeks now and just love it!! I was not a fan of the previous version, but definitely love this improved version!! Thanks for doing the review!!
Thanks for this review. I bought this watch a year ago with the black dial for 100 euro used, but as good as new. Wanted the blue one, but for 100 Euro's couldn't resist the offer. l love it, it is accurate, not to big and the bracelet is good. The only thing i don't like is the grinding sound handwinding it. The crown is a little small, but you'll get used to it. It's an overall winner this watch!
Possibly the "most watch you can get" for this kind of money. Brilliant desk-diver, and actually a relatively good bracelet for the price* (Take note Seiko). (*Grey market price that is. For the retail price, it's just decent). I've said this a dozen times in various comment sections on the web, but I had the movement go haywire on me after using it in harsh (someone would maybe say extreme) conditions with shocks and cold. It had to be sent back to the factory, it was beyond my watch-makers repair. Idk if this is the case with all automatics, or if the Mako II movement just isn't that though, even if people online say it is.
I have this same exact watch for over 2 years now. Swam with wild dolphins while wearing it ^_^ I love it. The Pepsi is cool. But I long for the all blue...do I bite the bullet? Anyway. Get this watch if you’re on the fence. The crown is little, but big deal. Mine gets me lots of compliments!
It's a way more versatile watch (lifestyle wise) than the other two and it includes features that the other two do not. It also keeps better time than the other two (at least mine does) and is the much better value watch in my opinion.
The only three things I hate about this watch are the bracelet, bezel, and the lume I hate the bracelet because personally the clasp felt like it could break open at anytime and makes the watch feel like it can fall down when wearing it and it has hollow end links and pins instead of screws but you can replace the bracelet for a strapcode bracelet so the bracelet isn’t that big of a deal I hate the bezel because I literally can’t move it anymore it has literally frozen on me the only way it moves now is when I put water on it and the water makes it so that the bezel can move The lume is great at the first but after a minute it runs out quickly and you can’t see it anymore But for the most part you can’t really complain because of the price and it does the job, the best thing about this watch is the in house movement I own the regular mako 2 not the Pepsi and I’ve owned it for 2 years now and I believe it’s the best mechanical watch for beginners
I suspect that even without ISO certification the Mako ii would still be fine for diving as 95% of divers seldom go deeper than 100 feet and the few that do saturation deep dives will want at least a watch rated to 1000 feet / 300 meters.
For those that own this watch, does the bezel stiffs to turn? Just got mine today (my first diver's watch too!) and quite disappointing with the bezel. It is very stiff and take a lot of effort to turn. Since this is my first diver's watch, i didnt know if that stiffness is typical or maybe i got a defect one. Maybe it need to be "broken" in first?? Let me know what you guys think.
Hi! Im just curious. What is the difference between watches that have the "japan mov't" marking on the 6 and other who have "japan" marking only. Coz im planning to buy a mako 2 and the one that they sell here has the "japan" marking only not like the other mako 2 which sells online with the "japan mov't" so i was curious whats the difference between them. Thanks
Got one as they were crazy cheap on Amazon *£99 Plus delivery to UK and taxes paid* Its impressive for the money, great value and surprisingly nice for me as most of my watches are a lot more expensive. I don't like the 22mm bracelet- it feels too wide for the watch in my opinion. I also hate the name and logo of orient, which just looks cheap to me, but that aside it's great and I'm happy to wear it for work and round the house (on a navy blue nato or navy blue leather strap)
Yes but that's like saying your cheap Honda Civic is light years from a 1970's Ferrari, and performance wise it is.. but if you take into consideration modern times and what Rolex does to modem bracelets, it is cheap 😀
Most people will never test the depth rating on the watch. That being said makes the skx suitable as inexpensive jewry because it keeps poor time. Don't look too close because nothing lines up. The Orient is a better deskdiving watch. I was corresponding with someone who said the skx had better street cred. I then realized he was just a young lad. So the younger generation loves junk. Seiko is doing a super job marketing these watches. I'm an old fart so l much prefer the Orient. Super video.
The SKX has better 'street cred' because it has been around since the 90s and the design of the current skx has been around for many decades. The 7s26 is a tried and true workhorse. It's a watch that has been worn in many movies and I saw a NFL coach wearing it on the side lines just a week or two ago. All that said I think the Orient Mako/Ray offers more watch for your money. It can be had for about $70 less. Hacking and handwinding, better QC when it comes to the way things line up. Though if you order from amazon you can exchange the skx if something isn't lined up properly.
@@Greg-tj8rg. Tried and true is the same as old and tired. Your right it hasn't changed since the 90s, time to enter the new millennium. Right now it's a waste of money.
@@derekshearer9049 Ok you have your opinion. The fact is this orient mako ii has a new movement that may be a rock solid work horse. Or it may give out in a few years. The 7s26 is a proven rock solid work horse movement. Old and tired-who gives a shit, it's reliable. That's what matters

Hey, did you say that the bezel mod for skx is suitable for this watch too?? I noticed in my research that the skx has a glass diameter of 31.5mm while makos has 31mm

How do all three hands align at 12 o'clock on your watch? The hands on my watch are not properly aligned at 12:00. I think I just found my first mechanical watch. A true dress diver with nice Arabic numerals and blue dial. I’ll ask for it as a Christmas gift.

Try pressing the bezel down a bit while turning it.
Have the Mako 1 and think it has a bit extra character. Also have the Ray 2 in blue. Both get a lot of wrist time
Very sharp looking watch, great job! 👍
Lack of self control and your review, I just purchased a Mako 2 shortly after completion of this video.
Haha congrats 😁👍
Last week I`ve modded this watch. Sapphire domed cristal + new bezel.
The new bezeli is enamel. It`s shinny not matt.
Skx wins for me because it has smaller version: if orient would make this one 38mm....I would buy it immidiadly
