This is my 3 year review of the Mako II. Since I work from home, I only wear it maybe 3 days a week. It keeps great time. Since I don't wear it often enough, I do have to wind it fairly often and there's no issue with the stem. I'm a leather guy, so I can't give you an opinion of the bracelet except to say I does look great. I had a sapphire double dome crystal installed on mine and let me tell ya, the dome crystal adds a lot to the aesthetics of this watch. I agree with all of the positive comments made in this video about the quality of the finish. For around 200$, you cannot go wrong with this watch.

Hello: Superlative video!!!. Seiko/Orient has a huge factory in Brasil (like Timex and others) to make Seikos and Orients to all the Americas. I loved the buttons inherited from the old Seiko movts modified to have a Day, it was so Orient. They are my most accurate watches ever and I collect them since the 60s. Cheers from Patagonia, Argentina.
Love the mako, planning on buying the black one. You’re right about the accuracy of the movement. My 2nd Gen Bambino averages +5 seconds, which with hacking seconds is awesome.
Have one. Moded recently. Sapphire domed cristal and enamel bezel. Shines like a ceramic bezel. Domed cristal combine with the taper shape bezel looks insane.
I also had difficulties using the stock narrow "bottle cap" bezel. I did a quick, easy 15 minute mod and replaced the bezel with a Namoki bezel and insert. Much easier to use now.
You got it right the first time :)) they put a quick-set day in there (to quickly change MON/TUE/WED/...). I get them mixed up too, but the way I remember is: while a day can mean "day of the month" or "day of the week", a calendar date usually refers to something like 10/10/2018, not to a day of the week. Another quick way to remember it is by the complication name: it's called a day-date complication, and on most watches when you look from left to right on the watch you will see the day, then the date.
I think the day/date crown is something I'd have to have been more familiar with to miss it. I got into watches just a few months ago so I wasn't familiar with the original mako/ray. Considering getting a black mako ii, love the sort of rolex submariner crossed with an explorer aesthetic
Ah yea than yea that makes total sense - I think folks only wax nostalgic on the button when they were familiar with the original version years before this new one. Ah wow yea - the black Mako II has that super classic sort of feeling to it - something that would probably be wearing on every occasion lol
Totally agree - bracelet itself is surprisingly solid but the hollow endlinks can be a hangup for some folks. It's an interesting disparity when one part of the bracelet is perfect and the other part leaves something to be desired lol
Today is Sept. 20, 2022. I just received this exact model three days ago, and it's my first ever automatic, and first screw down crown, and I'm concerned about accidently cross threading the crown. Is that really a thing to worry about? The threads are so tiny and delicate looking. I am using my computer's clock as a standard, and the watch is gaining about ten seconds a day. I regulated some watches decades ago, but they were much cheaper watches.
Hey man, ive got Kamasu and find out screwing the crown is so hard it destroys my fingers lmao, is it hard to screw down Mako crown also? Cuz i really love that blue Mako and thinking to get it.
The value proposition for the Orient Mako II is really nuts - esp with this model being easily under $200 all day. Ahhh how do you like the Mako XL? I think they did one in green a while back and I've always been intrigued but afraid to take the plunge.
@@TwoBrokeWatchSnobs i thought it was going to be too big at 45mm but the proportions make it just right! The dial/hands/bezel combination is my favourite: only thing i would change is the width of the lugs, they're a bit too large (and the hollow end links of course ahah). The green bezel is super interesting, if you find it at good price i'd say pull the trigger. P.s. with the bracelet it's pretty heavy, but i change straps a lot so 🤷🏻♂️
That bezel is so weird - it's probably the thing that keeps me from getting one of these. I also think they should have kept the wart/button. It was cool and different. Great video. I like this format. Make more. Ill keep watching.
do you mean the bezel itself or the bezel insert? I swapped my mako insert out for a ray's insert. You can order the individual insert directly from orient.
@evertt In regards to the bezel I think you're referring to that grip-resistant sloping angle on there? Yea it's def tough to turn simply because of how its sloped, but once you get a good grip on there it does turn and the clicks are very satisfying. I wonder if maybe over time as the click mechanism wears it'll get easier to turn despite the sloped angle...
@the2ndchild - ahhh that's so cool - I didnt realize Orient sent out individual watch parts directly to owners - swapping bezel inserts sounds like a lot of fun actually
Two Broke Watch Snobs I don't mind a tough to turn bezel or even the slope. I am turned off by the recesses every 5 minutes. Not a deal breaker. But, like I said, it's the thing that rubs me wrong about the watch.
Hey Kaz. Is that the 41.5mm case? I was looking at getting the Mako but was worried the 41.5mm would seem too small after wearing a Casio Duro pretty regularly for over a year. I doubt my wrist is bigger than yours and it looks like a good size.
Im very disappointed with my F6922 Kamasu. When i wear it, it speeds up 2-3 minutes a day, if i dont wear it it slows down 1-2 minutes a day... I dont think i will ever buy Orient again
You should reach for workshop, it should not be hard do regulate them, they do be accurate for long time, and for peanuts. If there is anything wrong with the movement, it should not be anything unsolvable. Maybe they need to demagnetize. Anyway, in my opinion - do not be done with them, as they hide and give a lot for nothing, and will serve you for a long time with excellence and elegance. Seriously.

Everyone should have a Mako. Great design, awesome dimensions.
Dude, agreed!

Same here just got mine glad to hear there is an alternative.
I had my Mako ii modded with a sapphire double dome crystal. Love it.
i just got mine back ,same mods , unbeatable watch !
Same here. Domed cristal makes the difference in this watch because of the shape of the bezel.

Ah, dangit lol - thank you for de-mystifying the day/date thing - idk why I always get them confused.
I just discover about hand wind after 6 months with the watch good video haha!!

Would this fit on a 8inch all around wrist?
Great video man! Thanks. love my Orients!
Also, the bracelet is super solid, but i wish the end links weren't hollow

Very nice watch!..This one is on the list.
Cool review. So good for the $$$$

I have the old Big Mako XL in black and i love it! I would get the Mako II with Black dial and no numerals.. insane quality/price ratio :)

Yup - 41.5mm in diameter and about 47mm lug to lug - the size is honestly perfect for a piece like this. Suuuuper wearable imo
Awesome! Thanks Kaz. Looks like the Mako 2 just jumped up to next purchase.
👍
I have this exact watch (and 7 others) it didn't survive to it's second birthday despite it's limited use in the rotation. Disappointed!
do you mind sharing what exactly happened? the movement failed?
