All the Orient dials are very subtle. Under many circumstances, unless the light its hitting them right, they look almost black. And even when the light is hitting the dial, it usually just shows the color in a sunburst diagonal across the dial. The only time the entire watch dial pops is under almost direct sunlight, or jewelry store lighting, if you know what I mean. This is something to note, because most watch reviewers use bright, 2+ source lighting that really provides a lot of illumination and makes the colors seem more vivid than they really are in real life. It's not a negative, per se, just something to note. The flipside of this is that in real world conditions, the back is usually so dark that the polished edge indices on Orients pop like crazy, and create a ton of contrast, making them very readable watches from far away. I would even say these are some of the most easily readable watches I've ever seen.

No confusion here: when Epson fully took over Orient Watch Co., they started putting the word EPSON on the casebacks, fully ditched applied logos (I mean not the emblem but the text itself) and... changed the model numbering from (F|S|...)[model] to [RA/RN/RE/RK]-[model] scheme, where RA means non-Star made outside of Japan, RN means non-Star fully made in Japan, RE means a Star made outside of Japan, and RK means a Star fully made in Japan. That's why, for instance, older Tristars made outside Japan start with FAB, and newer ones start with RA-AB. Same for divers: older FAA/SAA vs. RA-AA for non-JDM and RN-AA for JDM.

I have two Kamasu's, the burgundy and black/gilt versions. Love them both. The only downsides are the bracelets and pressed clasps, as well as the very small crown. I swapped out the bracelet on the burgundy for the jubilee which you sell Mark, and replaced the awful rubber strap on the black for a much nicer sailcloth one. Awesome watches, fantastic value-for-money.

  • @luked2767
    @luked2767 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I've had my JDM burgendy Kamasu for 3 years and I love it, keeps between 0 and +2 a day.
I feel much better now I can get replacement movements and stems, you can buy the F6922 as the S.epson YN56A,
The YN55A is just the date version.
They are much better than the nh35/36, the size dails and hands are interchangeable.
The YN55/6A are made in Japan in the orient factory but they are made for other manufacturers so have different rotor engraving so now you don't have to worry about servicing the movement, you can change it out and it costs less than a Nh35 movement.
If your bezel click spring ever breaks the SKX 120 click spring works just fine.
I recommend putting a drop of silicone oil in the bezel gap every now and then and a light coat on the crown threads and stem.
Also changing the orings every few years.
In my opinion Orient is the only big brand name that's worth the money.
The JDM models are better but not a whole lot, for me the kanji days just make it look great.
I don't mind the stock bracelet it's not that bad.
I wish orient would make 28,800bph movements and GMT movements.

@@Vetava I do love my ray but for most people the kamasu is probably the better choice, tbh i just liked the design of the ray the most, and i don't mind not having a saphire crystal. The ray is also cheaper of course (if that plays a part) and apparwntly back then there were some bezel insert and chapter ring alignment issues with the kamasu, but i don't know if that'sstill the case. So I just went for the ray :)
Either way honestly just go for the one where you like the disign the most because apart from that and the saphire crystal there's not much different.

I got the Kamasu in green, fantastic watch. The green is really interesting, it's not like a pure green, but this super dark green that only really looks "green" when you get it under lighting. The crown for it is really tiny and hurts my fingers to operate, and I'm never quite sure if I've screwed it down all the way, but honestly that's the only weakness I've found with the watch so far on a day to day basis.

The one Orient I obtained as a gift after talking about how I liked its looks with wife (she's a keeper) was the "Root Beer" limited series they had. For a "cheap" automatic watch it's running 9-10+ seconds (measured over a period of one month) a day. Couldn't be more happier with it except one thing - wish it had ar coating on sapphire. Besides that I love it on original leather or the rubber strap I picked up.

Bought my first Orient Ray with black face & bezel back in 2015. Was so impressed with it, I bought another as a back-up. So nice not to have to mess with batteries or winding. Illumination--for my 74 year old eyes--is really, really good, even after hours in the dark. Have received many compliments. Best of all, for a watch like this, after 7 years of daily wear, accidental dunking and dropping, striking something hard, all for under $200, it is still working like a champ. And looks new!

@@servantofallah9425 I don't know about "Ray I" or Ray II." . At the time I purchased it, the listing on Amazon was simply "Ray." I'm assuming that it is a Ray I. Here is the model#: EM65008B I've now had it for 9 years, and the only issue is that it loses about one minute/month. Have never needed any service. A really fine quality automatic watch and a can't-beat-it price. I rate this watch right up with the Zodiac, Seiko, and Tag Heuer that I have also owned since 1966. I liked this Ray that I am wearing so much that I bought a second Orient watch--Ray II--that is still in the box and that will be the replacement when my current Ray finally stops working--if it ever does. Hope this is helpful.

In brazilian internal market Orient has other dive models, manufactured in local plant in Manaus. Some are solar powered (Solartech line and model MPSS2002G1PX), but also have some automatics. Current automatics/mechanicals models are:
YN8TT002 - 300m, 46mm titanium case, saphire glass, green dial, special edition with 500 limited units, date, power reserve indicator
    469SS073 - 500m, 48mm case, mineral glass, blue/black dial models, day/date "Netuno"
    F49SS014 - 300m, 42mm case, blue/black/orange dial models, mineral glass, day/date "New Poseison"
F49TT001 - 300m 47mm case, blue dial, titanium case, mineral glass, day date "Poseidon"

Thanks for showing us all the models in one place so we can truly compare them for size and style 😃👍! Even Orient’s more expensive models give you a lot of “bang for your buck” when you realize they are completely “in house” produced.
I’d love to see them bring out a model that was ISO certified but smaller than the Orient Star Diver, if for no other reason than the vibration and shock resistance standards. I enjoy my Neptune, but it's a bit on the heavy side and the bracelet a bit on the light side, so one of Marc's bracelets helped balance things out! It kept excellent time at first; but after a few motorcycle rides, it ran slow. Sent it back to Orient repair center in LA and they never opened it, returning it with a timegrapher print out stating -4s/day...very different from my jeweler's Witschi and it still loses 45 secs/day just like before I sent it to them. Expected more from that 40N5A movement. As often as I have to reset the time, I wish the crown was a little less slippery. It was my first non-Swiss watch and now I'm afraid to try any non-quartz Japanese watch. That said, I love the power meter and it's built like a tank and probably deserves the JIS diver certification. I found mine on clearance for under $300, so it's a terrific value; however, some find the slimmer versions infinitely more wearable.

  • @RenghisKhan

I've worn my red Kamasu for about three years now. And honestly I have only one complaint about it. The bezel insert. It is positioned slightly higher than the crystal, this kind of protects the sapphire crystal but... It is a painted aluminium insert. It is like protecting an anvil by covering it in humming birds. After three years the crystal is, as one may expect from sapphire crystal, pristine. The bezel insert however looks like it's been through the war, or several wars in fact. As far as I know there are no aftermarket ceramic inserts for this bezel, which is a shame really. Now, Long Island Watch have two replacement bezels, one has a coin edge and the other is more true to the original (I am still deep within the process of trying to decide which one to get) but neither of them feature the gentle slope the original has. And I really liked that in the overall design, it makes the watch look less bulky and, with the right shirt, it makes it a tiny bit easier to slide it under the sleeve.
But the current state of the bezel insert kind of screams for replacement and even though I don't really fancy the flat bezel insert, it will definitely improve the overall looks of the watch. So there you go, it's not like being caught between a rock and a hard place but I guess that's just life, I can't expect a perfect one between the choices offered. It's gonna be pretty expensive though because of shipping and customs for American products here in Europe but hey....it was a gift from my mom and I will cherish and, when necessary, invest in it for the rest of my life. And the maroon or burgundy or red dial, depending on the light, is just 😍! And it'a strap magnet, almost anything you throw at it just sticks. I absolutely love this watch.

Agreed...but, the variables seem to be size, day/date or just date, crown location, crystal composition and straps. Keeping all of that straight, especially since Orient sounds like they are dropping the use of model names...is the confusing part.

I love Orient, such an authentic horology for this price amount... is pure love.
Perhaps, I can not afford a necesary amount of money to get the Omega Seamaster, a Glashütte Original, or a Glycine Combat-Sub... it doesn't matter to me, because with Orient's catalogue of divers they provide happiness and well known products. It looks astonishing, especially when i'm wearing a black t-shirt. Believe it or not, I bought it a week ago for less than 150$ (629 PLN) in one of the Polish online stores, so the factor value to money is unbeatable and possibly out of range of any competition.

I just picked up a nearly perfect Lume face Mako XL (my first Orient) on eBay for $100 a couple of weeks ago and then found a Mako II Pepsi with a modded solid end link jubilee bracelet and made a $100 offer that was accepted. The Pepsi has a few nicks in the case and I did a light restoration on the brushed areas on the bracelet but they both keep nearly perfect time and are around +5 seconds a week. I put the XL on a black gator leather strap with Breitling deployant clasp and am planning on upgrading the crystals on both to sapphire and doing a new sub-style bezel and a lumed sapphire Pepsi insert but honestly, I love them just the way they are and can’t stop looking at my wrist when I wear either one of them. I am thinning out some of my other watches to make room in the winder for at least 2 more Orients that I have my eye on. I wish I had discovered Orient years ago.
