  • May 3rd: Scored epic conditions in the X couloir earlier this month. Great snow made for a memorable descent. Springtime in the rockies is delivering!

    You guys are nuts. And to think I used to ski anything when I lived in aspen. We’d hike and climb but never had to use ropes. That’s just badass.

    Brutal to stay on point technically with that kind of pitch. Not only did you crush it technically... you did it with absolute style too!!!

    How do you put your skis on/off in such steep terrain?

    @joro8604 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    You made that look easy! How long did that take you to climb up?
    Total pucker in a few places. Hats off.

      Thanks, I think it took about 3hrs to get to the drop in point another 2 to ski and get back to the car

    Fantastic ski mountaineering. Looks a lot like some of the terrain in the Dolomites. That’s quite a climb, especially the last bit. And then the rope line to assist your partner’s entry. Additionally the couloir got really narrow. That part you down-climbed just using your poles, did she do the same, why no ice-axe/picks there ? You had to have been wearing crampons? One thing I am trying to understand is how in this clip you and you partner when skiing are charging even in the steepest of terrain, but when I see skiers in the Dolomites, they seem much more cautious unless it’s World Cup level free-rider but even they slow down etc ? Just curious on your take. Nice work. Never heard of Mt Whymper, but that was steep.

    You think it’s possible to ski the part you hiked down?

    • @bensoneff
      @bensoneff  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is possible on a good year maybe even would have gone this year it’s just super committing

    Was there in April. Wish I could comment with a picture showing how ridiculous that line looks from below.
    Recognized the name, thanks for all the MINs, glad at least a few others are willing to share info....seems like most get too selfish to share reports in a "bad-ish year" , yea a terrible start but still found plenty of good days

      Do you go often enough to have an opinion on whether this year was better or worse than last year (for the Canadian Rockies/Columbia Mountains)?

    • @Alex-cj3cy
      @Alex-cj3cy 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@namelesskat4814this year was worse early season/mid winter but was better late season and spring. Last year there was practically no spring, went nuclear late April and stayed hot.

    • @Alex-cj3cy
      @Alex-cj3cy 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@namelesskat4814for the Rockies at least. I think last season was below av but decent in the Columbias/selkirks but this year was really bad for them. A few nasty rain storms came through this season

    Why did you lower your partner in with a rope and then you just ski’d in no sweat?? Seems like she could’ve just ski’d in as well

    • @bensoneff
      @bensoneff  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea she could have but by lowering her in she saw farther down the line and avoided a consequential pitch of skiing.
