Bring the kid, teach him the basics of being safe around livestock, no issues. I was riding horses cleaning stables at his age. Its also a great influence for your kid, showing him empathy and care for animals, and a strong work ethic, which is the best! Great parenting!

Graeme mention about his son being there and the dangers of it but also of the time spent together. My grandparents had a farm and I enjoyed doing chores though I was very protected by my family. I enjoyed using the manual machine that takes the dried corn off the cob for feed for the cattle, picking blackberries along the fences (for dessert that evening), making butter & gathering eggs. It is a memory that started 70 years ago that I still cherish. The saddest part is the farm is now gone but I still have my memories. I didn't see the hoofs trimmed but do remember (vividly) see the horns being burned off the young bulls. I will treasure these memories forever. Please continue to spend as much time with the children as you can.

When I was young (probably about 7 upwards) I would go on holiday to a Campsite that had a smallholding attached to it.
The guy that ran it all was really great, he originally had Goats, always had sheep (including one single Black Face Ewe while the rest were Cheviots, that's a long story in itself), ducks, geese, pheasants an chickens of two or three different breeds. There was also a cantankerous Shetland Pony who frequently suffered with Laminitis if he was allowed onto the fresh green grass too much, he also had the owner spoiling him with a slice of bread if he wouldn't come in for e or my Mum because the grass was too good.
Quite often I'd get up really early and go an bottle feed any lambs that needed it, and I'd help my Mum feed the chickens, geese, ducks an often the sheep as well.
I had loads of fun and was never injured. It's a great learning experience!

Our black angus bull did the same thing to one of our fence panels back in July when we were sorting out our yearlings. Mr. Nosy got in the mix, got anxious about being parted from his cows and executed a flying body slam on the panel before I could open it to let him out. It honestly just proves that the only thing keeping him in the pasture is being with his herd and being well fed!

Reminds me of the time my grandmother took me with her to the stockyards. She was loading Brahma bulls onto a cattle car with the help of the stock man to be transported the next day (Monday). This was about 1958-60, and I was about 9-10. I was not allowed to help herd the bulls into the car, I had to sit on a 7 foot fence (a little over 2 meters) so the view was good. Perhaps should mention my grandmother owned and operated a trucking company.

I was a kid growing up in the country. We didn't live on a farm but we were surrounded by them and had friends that did. We were also surrounded by wild life, some of which was potentially dangerous for a child. I was taught early on to respect animals, how to behave with different kinds and read their body language so that I could react if I had to, and make friends with them when I could. Honestly, I think kids are safer with animals than people. Animals almost never lie.

My dad was a livestock carrier for most of my childhood. I used to go to work with him. We'd do weekend trips away. I'd watch him climb all over the trailers of his truck, loading cattle from all over Western Australia. I learned so much about the state but also the cattle. There was many a mishap because you can't tell animals what to do if they don't want to be told. But all in all, it was a great time. Memories.

Taking your son with you is the best education he will get. Teaching him life skills like courage, bravery, resiliency, respect for animals and mother nature, team work and self employment are powerful. There is far too much fear programming into children that renders them useless risk adverse adults. I grew up on a farm with all kinds of large animals, respect for their size and power taught me a great deal. Good job!

That's hella good driving getting the crush in there. Super good suspension the crush didn't even bottom out. It has really great lateral stability. No rocking from side to side. That's a super cute assistant you have there. One on one time together is precious. I'm pretty sure Mrs. Hoof GP wouldn't let her boy go if it was to dangerous. Kids are born and raised on farm's. He looked like he was having a blast being with his dad. That's awesome.

As the proud owner of one very spoiled bull (now steer) calf, I can completely understand the love you have for these cattle. My grandsons adore “Bulla” and I totally agree that time spent “working the land” is not only quality time but a great life lesson.

I think it wonderful that you are spending time just one on one with your boy. Kids learn valuable life lessons doing things like this with parents.

Bringing your son to work is wonderful... I'm in my fifties & grew up outside Chicago, Illinois. The memories of going to work with my dad are still fresh in my mind. I was in the fifth grade in elementary school. He made custom leather attache' cases for the printed curcuit boards for Xerox copy machines... Way before computers lol...i was allowed by his secretary to file some papers alphabetically for them & i felt sooooo important !!!!! Great memories ❤️ i love watching you fix the animals🐄🐄🐮🐮🐮🐮🐄🐄!!!! Happy hugs from SouthWest, Florida☀️🌴🌺🌊🍹🏵️🦚🦋🐝🍍🔱

I am impressed with that bit of backing up you had to do. Didn't think you had the height clearance. As in many times the obvious was not the real real problem. Good that you go looking for the cause. I'm a great fan of a great hoof trimmer. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 💘 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 💘 Scotland too.

You are so correct! Children know soon grown and gone. And we miss them so much when they are such a close part of our lives! Keep up the good work both with the Cowles and with the kiddos, but don’t forget your wife! She needs you to.

Good for you having your son with you as you said quality time for you both. We spent alot of time in the cow shed and shearing shed with dad, loved every minute of it. Country kids in NZ more free range I suppose lol.

No criticism for bringing your boy with you. He'll remember it for years to come. I had an adventure with my own father, just us two and it's still one of my fondest memories 5 decades later.

What a cutey... it's a good thing for a boy or a girl to be out watching their dad work... lets them know where everything comes from. WORK! I helped my dad around the place till I was married and to this day I'm happy and proud of the tool handling and tinkering skill I gained from his knowledge. Enjoying the videos

What a neat thing to do - bring the little kiddo to work. Now he knows what his daddy does during the day... the pups love it too. You have a cute little boy there. Glad to see the bull is getting attention for his toes.
