Such a great interview. The two brothers quit their jobs to pursue a dream -- quite a risk, but for their case, it sure has paid off. I'm excited to see what Studio MDHR has in store for us in the future!
So it was all hand drawn/3D modeled in a traditional way and then the animations, cutscenes and backgrounds and all those assets were then scanned and coloured, and then it was all coded together. And then, all the sounds and songs were recorded in real life? KUDOS TO THESE GUYS.
Cuphead was a very easy game to pull people in because everyone grew up on Disney 2-D animation and the charm is always heartwarming to people. What made them stay was the difficulty to beat the game and it payed off so well💪🏻❤️

watching this video is like watching this 2 brother's dream slowly and maturely becoming a reality, it's so cool
When I first saw Cuphead I couldn't believe it was actually a game, fell in love immediately with the animation. But when I heard the music, OMG, I almost lost my mind with happiness, went to heaven, then to hell and back... what a crazy soundtrack.... I don't even have the game, but just watching a walkthrough is so damn entertaining.
2D/traditional animation is making a comeback, but it's individuals and smaller studios doing it. Corporate studios couldn't care less.
For me I LOVE how cuphead is so hard, it fits the type of game. If cuphead was to easy it would be so lackluster, but it’s not so I’m very grateful.
So inspirational. No previous experience at all but still went for it because it’s something they wanted to do. Found a way to get it done and viola. Amazing.
It's amazing to think no one had done this kind of game before.
Love this video.. only thing is I wish they sat the other way round (because of the t-shirts)
Cuphead is more than a game.. even more than an awesome game. is a work of art and passion. Incredible ideas brung to modern days, risky decisions and proof that animation is alive and people still love it. We love you guys. Even if you dont make another work of art like this one again.... we thank you and love you for what you made and shared with us.
This story is so inspiring.. as a creator I’m buzzing right now.. 🙏🏾thank you!
i like how cuphead, starring two brothers, was made BY *brothers*
Such a great interview. The two brothers quit their jobs to pursue a dream -- quite a risk, but for their case, it sure has paid off. I'm excited to see what Studio MDHR has in store for us in the future!
The animation is pure genius 💜super cool to bring this game to life
So it was all hand drawn/3D modeled in a traditional way and then the animations, cutscenes and backgrounds and all those assets were then scanned and coloured, and then it was all coded together. And then, all the sounds and songs were recorded in real life? KUDOS TO THESE GUYS.
I have so much respect for these guys they went the extra mile and the games feckin awesome because of it
Cuphead was a very easy game to pull people in because everyone grew up on Disney 2-D animation and the charm is always heartwarming to people. What made them stay was the difficulty to beat the game and it payed off so well💪🏻❤️
OMG this interview is amazing 💙
Please keep doing what you are doing, take your time with the game making process. We don't need more games in the market, We need good ones.
This is their first video-game?! That's a Masterpiece!
Thank you for my favorite game of all time MDHR Studios!
Best video I've seen from Gamespot in a long time. Phenomenal interview.
Only thing I can add: The two brothers are right, some NES games make Cuphead look like a breeze. Silver Surfer, Fester's Quest (without turbo), Battletoads to name a few. Even the first Contra is a doozy without the konami code.
I want to see a series of Cuphead short films that goes on tour to concert theaters with a live orchestra plays the music - similar to silent films.
I've started playing this game after 4 years and this game is a masterpiece till date ❤️ Great work guys
I absolutely love this game!
Some of the bosses make me want to burn down a building because of the difficulty.
