You have to appreciate how they really stuck to the 30's feel going to lengths such as using cell animation with physical drawings instead of digitally drawn ones
Hi Im Gib Right? although, they did kind of cheat a bit and fill in the colors digitally.
not saying that’s a bad thing though. I’m sure if they stuck to coloring it by hand, it would take forever. No one wants that.

@Matti cat If you want to get technical about it, then sure, every animation by virtue of being an animation, moves frame by frame. We all know that's not what they meant. Frame-by-frame is a term for a specific style of animation, however redundant it may be. There's a difference between hand-drawn frame by frame, and using a program to motion-tween a puppet between key frames. A motion-tweened puppet saves time and money but isn't capable of the same squash and stretch techniques used in Cuphead, because the program is filling in the gap between key frames instead of there being a natural transition. Hand-drawn frame by frame allows for bigger movements and a lot more squash and stretch, and crazy transitions. This is the type of animation where smear frames are necessary. Especially with this being drawn on paper instead of on a computer, that reduces your room for error. Instead of hitting ctrl+z, you'll need to start over or open it in a program to fix the lineart, and it also means every frame needs to be scanned as well. Look at the difference between Cuphead and a mostly motion-tweened show like The Lion Guard. Every animation goes "frame by frame" but that's not what that term means when it comes to talking about an animation style.

I have never played Cuphead, but I have a great amount of respect for everyone who put their blood, sweat, and tears into the game. The score is amazing, and you can see how tedious the animating process was.
I knew the game since its release too, but I’ve never played until a few months ago. Worst mistake of my life. I had to play this before, it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played. And if you’re a really good gamer, it’s even funny to finish the game in expert or even in S rank. It’s really a lot of things, worth more than only 20€
Please play it! It’s a great game, it challenges you as heck. Even though it’s tough, it can be really fun.

@@Adrian-kb4rg The technique is the same if your using a Frame by Frame Animation App like Flipaclip, Caulipeg and others like it but you lose that Pencil, pen, brush technique, texture that comes with doing Animation Frame by Frame physically. You get the true statement that Doing Digital 2D Animation whether it's Frame By Frame, Flash, Pixels or a combination of all looks to clean in Digital compared to Pencil and Paper. There are many more differences I didn't even state but you get the idea.
Cuphead is the result of a developer putting too much effort into a game. You don't see that happen very often.
They got paid the money they deserve too. So, everybody is happy at the end

@@FreeTibetFTW The problem may also be because the companies are out of touch with their consumers. For example, Company makes a game, the game is shown to the consumers. The consumers don't like it's mechanics/designs/gameplay/etc. Company doesn't do anything and releases game anyway. Consumers get upset but still buy it ( Most ) because its their favorite franchise. Example would be Pokemon. I know this is a different form of media, but remember the bad sonic cgi in Sonic the hedgehog movie? The director actually responded to criticism and did the responsible thing to do and delay the movie for improvements. Definitely cost him probably millions but he listened to the consumers. I hope everyone becomes like him.

the animations look so smooth and fluid, i wish todays animation would be this smooth, you dont see this level of detail in animation unless its a Pixar movie. There might some hidden gems but its truly rare nowadays.
In Pixar movie everything is done digitally on computers, they used real models and actually draw characters....

Even as a game, Cuphead is one of the best works of art I've ever seen due to all of the elements blending together perfectly.

Now I get why the game is so hard, the animators want us to see their work over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... again.
That's not far from the truth. If the game weren't that difficult, it's be over in just a few hours, but making it more difficult, it extends the playtime, just like old NES games.

as an animator this is the most impressive game i’ve ever seen, i mean all of this was traditional animation on paper, with actual backgrounds and props made by hand, seriously it’s amazing.
You can just tell, everything about the aesthetic, music, visuals, story and developers are just perfection. They push to do amazing things and you can really tell that they put their heart and soul into the game. Which is why it’s so great.
I honestly have never seen a game being put in overwhelming effort, time, and work. I can’t imagine how many times those people thought about giving up over hurting wrists and the great patience needed. This is more than what your average 30s/40s cartoon needs. It also impresses me with the music, the strikingly beautiful art, and surely, the characters. This game literally pulls you into the 1900s when technology wasn’t as advanced as today. It gives you the feeling that you’re in a different world, a different time, and a different life. That’s a very rare thing you can get from video games. Cuphead truly deserves the Overwhelmingly Positive reviews. Despite it being frustrating to beat, in the end, it’s quite rewarding and memorable. I’d imagine that’s what every person who worked on this game felt as well. I absolutely can’t wait to see the DLC soon to come for a wonderful game and I hope it leaves a mark on each gamer’s experience.

You know what makes me sad? The fact that people when they die keep saying "bro this game sucks i hate it" and they don't appreciate all the hard work to make every single frame, idea, boss making.
Atm i'm stuck at the circus boss that for me is too hard but everytime i die i keep thinking of how much effort the developers put to not rage :)

god, I wish GoodFeel could do another wario land game. They’ve already done a kirby & 2 yoshi games with the whole cardboard, yarn and wool design. Where’s wario time.
Personally for me I never liked the wario ware games, so the fact that there’s been more wario ware games compared to wario platformers is a shame. Shake it/shake dimension is such a great WL game, both musically, artistically and replayability, Probably better then WL4.

@@popcorntaffy The little mistakes made by human hands do so much for authenticity. Perfect lines are boring... to me the best comparison is old Family Guy to new. Regardless of the jokes, the old style just shows so much more expression in the characters. CG Family Guy makes everybody look the same... every character reuses the same few facial expressions and animations. The artistic part of animation is more or less gone
I absolutely love how they don't talk much for the behind the scenes because they want us to truly focus on the art, music and development of the game itself rather than what they have to say about it.
While I understand that traditional animation is insanely hard work, it really pays off. It looks gorgeous. Breaks my heart that it's becoming a dying art. I really appreciate the Cuphead team for bringing it back in an exciting new way.

The fact that after they were all finished with the making of the game, porting it to consoles, and then looking back and just saying, “Yeah, let’s make some dlc!” It inspires me to no end. Keep at it, Studio MDHR, and good luck.

This is just pure beauty, I love the animation style and also how old timey the whole game felt. I wish more games were like this, and most animated films
Truly a masterpiece to be remembered through all ages for time to come. Gameplay, art style and animation, music, feel, atmosphere, and the mounds of rage with friends just to beat the level next round and feel super accomplished. I hope history remembers this game in all its beauty.

I think they may have gotten someone high profile in after the fact to track it, and either didn't record video of it, or didn't get permission to publish from the musician. Alternatively, the video editor isn't a musician and just likes to make us mad ahaha.

Everyones is talking about the animation, but noone about how good the background music and programing is BRUH, the actual game has less bugs than a super company game developer, and the trumpets, sax and piano is what gives this game the "old" sense.

@@FireCat_P No, they were inked on paper, and scanned. A cel is a transparent sheet of celluloid (hence the name) that is photographed. Traditionally inking on paper does not equal cels.
