Citizen's have better QC. Seiko has a bigger variety. Citizen has better value. Seiko generally has better dials at lower costs such as their presage range. Both are excellent! Personally I would go Citizen as I have never had a bad one where as I have had issues with my Seiko's before.

I have both a Citizen eco drive and a Seiko 5. Citizen I've owned for over 15 years and is still in very good shape and runs as good as the day I unboxed it. My Seiko is two years old, the case and lens are already badly scratched, and I recently had to get it regulated as it started running 85 seconds a day slow. Next watch I buy will be another Citizen.

After just few days it got scratches... I haven't done my homework... black color is pvd coating, scratches easy...
I was disappointed cos it's 2000 dollars watch. Should be more resilient for that money. I have fossil 12 years old, didn't get scratches as seiko did.

I am a Big Japanese watch fan and have been wearing it for over 40 years of Seiko,Orient , Citizen and Casio with only some entry models of them.
In my experience, they're very good value pieces that compare to Swiss made.
Seiko wins over with the most delicate design from them, and the set up of days and dates technically is excellent and reliable, and the polish works seems better than others, quartz movement is top, but the mechanical is not so reliable and accurate compare to Citizen.
And the signature design " hardex crystal" is a let down, easy to break crystal (I have 2 in my experience ).
Eco drive from Citizen is a gem if you don't mind the rough looks of the design, with the dates only models can be last for a generation.
Orient is a so so products with a better looks than Citizens but not so reliable.
Casio is a very good piece, tough and reliable for all the outdoor activities, but the resin straps from entry models are not so tough and easy to get cut off by some sharp objects for the purpose.

Quartz is better in every way possible. But I’ll always want a mechanical watch. Recently got an orient but it does not even compare to my older Seikos but still a decent watch

In my opinion, when it comes to Citizen vs Seiko, it's a pretty close call, but I'd have to choose Citizen. Seiko has a bit more history (older brand) and heritage, and arguably started the entire quartz revolution/crisis, with the groundbreaking Astron. However, Citizen does have a lot of its own innovations, such as Eco-Drive, Super-titanium, and their ultra high-accuracy quartz movements (chronomaster). Seiko is definitely more of an enthusiast brand than Citizen, and their popular dive watches such as the SKX and Prospex are arguably more iconic than the citizen counterpart, the Promaster. Seiko has a larger selection, and arguably has better high-end watches as well, with their Grand Seiko line. Citizen has high end watches as well, such as the "super-quartz" Chronomaster, and the Series 8, but are arguably not as high end as Grand Seikos. Not really comparable, as the Chronomaster and Series 8 are around $2k I believe, and GS's are around $4-6k. However, the Series 8 definitely has MUCH better value than a Grand Seiko. I would say Citizen overall has much better value than Seiko though, and I have heard, better quality for the price as well. While the Promaster may be Citizen's most well known line, some other lines such as the Tsuyosa, Corso, Nighthawk, and Super-Titanium are extremely underrated and affordable. If I had to choose a brand, I'd personally go for Citizen.

If you look into the history of the Citizen NY0040 and the Italian navy, you’d soon think of it otherwise where citizen has more (relevant) history. Where the SKX mainly is hyped by watch nerds, the NY0040 actually is a divers watch used by the Italian army.
I had Seiko’s but am full on into Citizen at the moment, with a radio controlled eco drive world timer, the Tsuyosa, NY0100 and that flieger which I can’t remember the number from lol.

All my Citizens are more accurate than any of my Seikos. I have mechanical and quartz from both and several of each. My favorites are the Citizen Eco-Drives. My first quartz was a Seiko back in the early 70’s. I don’t regard a watch as a piece of jewelry but as a time keeper.
