    Also got lucky last autumn - got the moonswatch mission to jupiter. In the first week i already replaced the strap, because it really wears off the velcro very fast. After some weeks i realized that this watch is not a daily beater or a regular. Sold the watch for around 330 euros - which was very cheap for that time and bought myself the pagani copy (or hommage if you want to say it) and a casio ae1200. Never looked back to the plastic Moonswatch...

      Just buy quality over quantity, and work your way up to a nice handful of pieces over time. I started with a Casio F-91 special edition that caught my attention, then a G10 field watch, and finally a Bulova Spaceview from the 1960s-70s. My collection is at 3, and I don't feel the need to buy any more. But I bought carefully, and didn't end up with any junk - just classics.

      @elefant5772 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I recently bought two of these Pagani Design Moonwatch clones just for fun as they were under $100. You can't get cheaper than this, and it's still of usable quality with a decent movement (Seiko VK63).
      But this is not to be taken for granted, another of these China watches - a Seamaster copy with a Seiko NH35 movement - actually had dust grains and little hair on the dial - not many and only visible under a magnifying glass, but definitely there.

    • @guyo68
      @guyo68 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@TopTierTicker the Pagani Design is a good option - period. Excellent value for money, amazing set of specs, and if you set aside the usual anti-homage snobbery, it's really the only option that'll scratch that SpeedMaster itch for those on a budget.

      @johnkidd797 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@guyo68 I bought the 300m pagani divers watch. In isolation it looks like great value for money. I still think the Pagani is a nice watch and didn't cost £7500.

    • @guyo68
      @guyo68 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@johnkidd797 yeah, I'm not seeing the relevance of the comparison. Naturally there are gonna be dozens of more expensive watches the Pagani will never compare to (even though Seiko, specifically, has some serious quality issues of its own...). I own the Bond Seamaster, so am well aware of the quality and workmanship that come with a luxury watch. The only thing I'm comparing it to, though, is the real SpeedMaster, which I won't be able to afford adding to my collection anytime soon, if ever. And in that context, the Pagani pd-1701 v3 gives me "the experience" like no other (believe me, I've tried!), and is decently made to boot.

    With the Sea-gull, it's the joy of owning a real, column wheel mechanical chronograph movement, based on the swiss Venus 175. It's not based on logic, but passion. I, too, was looking at alternatives including mecha quartz, but they're just not the same.
    The St1901 movements are reasonably reliable, and mine is quite accurate. I had the crown snap off due to being damaged in shipping and the after sales service was quite good as they sent me a new crown and stem which I got within a week. No doubt I won't have any problems when I order a new movement come the time for service. Incredible value.

    I agree on the Bulova Lunar Pilot, it is a great watch but due to the size not for everyone and at a significantly higher price (but still worth it IMHO). AFAIK Bulova will come out with a smaller version. As you mentioned the Seagull, the Alpha Speedy homage is cheaper than the Moonswatch but with a mechanical calibre and full metal with a glass bottom. A colleague of mine owns an Omega Speedy but was still impressed how well the Alpha looks and works. My example also keeps time fine. Last but not least, a Bulova Marine Star 96B272 looks great, is stainless steel and does not cost a lot more.
    I initially was really keen to buy a Moonswatch, but now would never buy one as it is just a disposable Swatch with Omega printed on it.

    I feel like people are missing the point of the moonswatch - it's a Swatch not and omega. It isn't intended to be the best watch one can buy for £200 but a commemoration of an iconic well loved timepiece. If you dislike the moonswatch you are probably just thinking of it as something it's not.

    Could you tell me if Tissot watches are really any good, do they really represent good value for money. A salesman in John Lewis some yrs ago said he always has Seiko watches and they've been very good and reliable. But he told me they had a lot of problems with the Tissot watches they sold in the John Lewis. And I've noticed that John Lewis branch doesn't sell Tissot anymore in the shop. John Lewis does continue to sell Tissot online still. And just one point you keep saying fully waterproof, but none of these watches are fully waterproof they are water resistant to varying depths

    • @TopTierTicker
      @TopTierTicker  ปีที่แล้ว

      I only say a watch is fully waterproof if it has 100m water resistance or more. This means it can go in the pool , in the shower and capable of snorkelng. Anything below this I do not consider fully waterproof.
      Yes, Tissot make incredible watches. I certainly wouldn't listen to a John Lewis sales advisor who likely knows very little about watches. I personally own 2 Tissot watches and the quality is unbelievable. Never had a single problem with mine. Especially if you buy from an authorised dealer, you will always be covered with a Tissot.

    Why people buy MoonSwatch:
    1. It looks like the Moonwatch.
    2. It has Omega stamp on it.
    None of the watches you have mentioned in the video qualify with above reason 😂
    People buy MoonSwatch either just for fun, or add to their collection.
    If people want to buy real watch, they won't buy MoonSwatch 😂

So I went and bought a hi end replica planet ocean costing £400, I’ll tell you now, it was as good as the genuine thing! Very accurate and fooled ever jewellers I shown it too. Omegas are overpriced and overrated in my honest opinion and they say they have to be serviced every 4-5 years!! Cheap ETA is high quality. This is a great watch, like most Swatch watches. FYI, the Swatch Sistem 51 is the most technologically advanced watch of the last decade and commands respect from actual knowledgeable watch experts.

    • @TopTierTicker
      @TopTierTicker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Disagree. ETA Quartz movements are the same as most other quartz movements. Nothing really different in terms of accuracy or quality in comparison with a Seiko/Miyota.
      Sistem 51 might be 'advanced' however it cannot be serviced. Once it begins to lose/gain too much time it's supposed to go in the bin. If you call that advanced then I don't know what to say.

    No warch is water proof.
    They are water resistant.
    100 m is not equal to 100 meter below the surface, it's a calculated 10 bar, and you can actually break the 10 bar, just jumping into a pool.
    And NEVER shower or use a watch in a public pool, since it will dry out the O-rings and seals, and open up for moisture. 🙂

    • @TopTierTicker
      @TopTierTicker  ปีที่แล้ว

      100m is capable of swimming, snorkeling and a warm but not hot shower. I have used many of my 10bar WR watches doing all three of these activities. I even took a 100m watch in a hot tub and it was fine. These things are tools and are built to withstand these activities. For me, anything below 100m is too risky in these activities as they aren't built to withstand the pressure. I'm fully aware how water resistant certifications are given and advise people accordingly.

    • @x3mperformace
      @x3mperformace ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TopTierTicker But you still states, that a'this watch is waterproof...' in the video.
      And there's a big difference.
      And i have seen the damage done by soap and chlorine, on many watches.
      And if you hit the surface hard, 10 bar can be broken, by the impackt, and you have moisture inside the watch.
