Great review to kick off 2023🎉 What an unknown gem from Citizen (unknown by me, prior to watching). A milled clasp from AliX for 7.00 USD would really elevate this, and I really like the integrated brac. Regarding the hands being thinner than the indices, I'd have subconsciously noticed but never been able to articulate just what did seem a bit off about the dial - that is a very astute observation and the exact reason I love this channel. That's a very baffling design choice; just match the hands to the indicies for a clean, intentional look, and ditch the cyclops.
I have it on my B&B Shop wishlist for 3 or 4 months now, waiting patiently for a discount, but with the flurry of recent reviewsI'm afraid it lost that "sleeper" quality and has become a bit too mainstream for me :( Still, I'm happy for them! Stylistically, I thought this one would rather match up to the Gentleman, but seeing it next to the PRX proves your point. I still think they sit somewhat between the two Tissots and that is actually great.

I prefer the newish 'NB' models citizen released. They are a bit more expensive but you get a much nicer bracelet, 9 series miyota movement and a crisper finish. However they havent gone for the yellow yet. One can hope.
What a pop of color ! Lovely balanced dimensions. Not a fan of integrated bracelets for 2 reasons: 1) I usually get bored of a certain combo and like to swap with a leather/rubber/nato and 2) all the watches with integrated bracelets I have tried on, have a funny skewed way to sit on my wrist. It must be something in my wrist/ulna bone configuration that make them feel this way. Anyway, I plan to try on both of these two watches later on today … :) cheers and thanks for another great video!
You can buy Tissot leather straps for the PRX now. There is a black and a blue one with a quick release mechanism. Not sure about 3rd party straps though.
Great review! I own the PRX 40 mm quartz in dark green and now I'm waiting for the yellow Tsuyosa that should arrive at my AD in March. Can't wait to see this color, I'm sure it looks great in real life!
I have the bicolor version of the Citizen and it’s great. My first bico watch ever 😁 I don’t mind the bracelet quality or a similarity to OP (I own white op 36). Visually I like both - citizen and prx. I’m still considering getting black prx Auto in the future. It’s a nice modern watch. My bicolor citizen is much more of a vintage feeling watch which I tend to wear with business casual outfits. Both are great and I agree with your statement at the end - citizen may be a little bit better value for money but prx is a better watch overall.
I have bought both the green one and the yellow one, the latter sold after one month. I must say that I like it and it's a wonderful watch, but it's biggest drawback is the crown which is quite frustrating to use.
I was just gifted the PRX quartz with blue dial. I love it more the more I wear it. Sadly in my country the Citizen costs more than the quartz PRX and a little bit cheaper than the Automatic PRX. Really nice video, you got yourselves a subsciber.
Nice to see Citizen get a bit more exposure on their auto's , sure the 8 series isn't the crowd pleaser like the nh35/6 etc but as reliable & accurate . The prx is nice enough but for the equivalent price reckon i'd plum for a 9' series Citizen offering , problem is availability outside japan most of the time . Two decent watches inevitably compared but with an obvious price disparity , i think the Tsuyosa is fair shout . Nicely covered bb.
Citizen always had the integrated bracelet from back in the early 90s. They are definitely riding on the popularity of the prx to also dig into citizen’s own archives for a similar design.
I am broke because of almost all these branded watches are releasing awesome watches that are very hard to resist.. Tissot, Timex, Seiko, Casio & Citizen they are all simply irresistible.. but I must choose only one brand & my most favorite is the tissot prx..
I have 10 citizens watch various models love all of them I have no issues with them and find them good value and fantastic quality . I'm waiting for this one to come from citizen love the colour
The Citizen Tsuyosa is a reallly beautiful watch in my eyes however, I would ratehr wear the green dial than the yellow one. Nevertheless I think that all color variants are extraordinarily well choosen. I like the simplicity, the combination between the case and the beautiful bracelet and the reasonable size of 39 mm. I like it even more than the Tissot Prx. A watch I am definitely considering to buy.
I have 3 and the green one is by far my favorite followed by the blue and then yellow, debating gold with red face but I think I'd get tired of the same style.
I'll go with the PRX for this comparison, though I like Citizen as a brand as well. I have the PRX Powermatic 80 with the blue dial and love it. Looks great, very versatile, gets lots of positive comments, comfortable, great quality...no complaints. Keeper watch. This Citizen looks nice enough, no real complaints, though I don't like the cyclops and the bracelet looks a bit average. My main complaint is availability: I live in Australia and Citizen Aus have not appeared to release them here yet. They seem really hard to get hold of.
The Tsuyosa is a great looking watch, but the fact that the movement is non-hacking and the crown is so extremely small and flimsy are holding me back from buying it. On top, while the black and blue version are widely available for reasonable money, the yellow one is constantly out of stock, and resale prices are sky-rocketing to ridiculous amounts. If the yellow one will ever be available for the same price as the black and blue ones, I will most likely get one!
@@BraveBeaters Thanks for replying! Yes, here in Europe it's currently unavailable unfortunately. I wouldn't get the black or blue one, but with the yellow one, I'm willing to look past its minor flaws and give it a try.
I feel like the Citizen would look a bit better with a flatter bracelet, however I think it's a bit better than the PRX. Also, a little known problem with the PRX is that is uses a "synthetic"(plastic) escapement, which will wear out and has to be replaced by Swatch, as they don't sell the part, whereas the Citizen can be serviced. Ironically, the quartz PRX might be easier to keep running in the long run. I do think a bit of a higher end variant with a 9 series movement instead of the 8 series could be better as it'd be more accurate and thinner. P.S. Un An Nou fericit și toate cele bune!
The Powermatic 80.611 with Nivachron balance spring has no plastic in it. First versions (80.111) only had the plastic escapement. No problems with servicing a Powermatic 80, personally I had two watches with the movement serviced and regulated.
@@jrgdrumsandwatches Check Tissot's website, they use the 80.111 for the PRX, with plastic, hence the "HIGH-TECH ESCAPEMENT" text on the rotor. I don't know how they released the versions of the Powermatic 80 chronologically but the 80.111 is definitely not a "first" version that was phased out. They're still using it. I think it's more like a gradation 80.1XX is plastic parts, 80.6XX is sort of standard, 80.8XX has a Silicon hairspring and can be COSC.
If I may join the conversation with my opinion based on experience living daily with a PRX 35mm quartz - the proportions, sizing, fit & finish, build quality and general ownership pleasure make it a very difficult watch to beat - I have owned a few higher end watches and can honestly say nothing I have owned (or tried) fits as well - which is surprising for such a ‘small’ watch - perhaps an older Rolex OP or Omega Aqua Terra but these cost thousands more - I haven’t found anything in between that comes even close - while I can’t quite say the PRX is a true ‘luxury’ watch it isn’t far off and is actually better finished than many watches I’ve tried costing 5 times as much - certainly it can be regarded as a ‘premium’ watch - for me the 35mm quartz is the ‘purist option because it’s essentially a 1 for 1 remake of the original Seastar upon which it is based - honestly though? I think about the only watch that could tempt me away would be the Vacheron Constantine 222 vintage size but at 100k? - I’ll stick with the PRX
Citizen tsuyosa it is the best watch for its money in automatic. it looks very similar to a rolex model, I am very happy and satisfied with my purchase
Brilliant watch, I don't agree with the inspiration behind it though. Citizen have a lot of similar looking pieces in their vintage lines, especially around the 70s. As do Seiko and a lot of other brands. Very popular look at that type of time
@@BraveBeaters yeah I can get it online I was just hoping to see it in person cause the colour looks nice in pictures but i might hate it. Also would rather not get it shipped internationally.
Best channel on YT. Been waiting for a comparison. I want to love both of these. But each has it's flaws. I own the PRX and the 40mm case has very long lug to lug for my average wrist. Also the width at the bracelet is pretty big making the case wear even bigger. I think the 35mm is too small. 38mm would have been better all around size. As for the Citizen. The bracelet doesn't work. The case is angular and a rounded president seems odd. A simple oyster or h link would be better.
Haha, thanks Jerry! On the bracelet, I agree it makes it bigger, a bit chunky. I feel the same, the PRX should be made in a mid size version. Similar in specs with the timex Q.
Love the Citizen brand and what they offer considering the price but as you said this one has some design flaws, especially the size of the hands, they're too thin and the crown isn't fully functional as it should be. If they used one of their 9 series movements in this watch with a normal crown and bigger hands, then this could be perfect. But overall I still think the PRX presents better value and much better design and is a better watch either quartz or automatic.
Just bought two yellow ones. To me its really a no brainer even for 350/400 bucks since it is really hard to find here in Europe as well. Wanna keep one in the closet and see what happens when it will be discontinued years from now... ( maybe another Seiko alpinist Sarb017 story !?) In Italy this one was sold out already two months ago, now Citizen is distributing those again, problem is that the shops must order all the references available for this market (4 - Green, Blue, Black, Yellow) and while the yellow ones are sold out before they even arrive at the shops (believe it or not there are people in the waiting lists to get one), all the other references are harder to sell and therefore shops here just order 2/3 pieces each four months.People that know I have two are already chasing me up with offers to get one believe it or not.
great video and thanks for pointing out the pros & cons. I like the Citizen brand but in this case it seems that I would opt for the Tissot? Thanks so much!
I love rolexes. I consider it to be the perfect gentleman's watch perfect to wear with a suit but blends very well with casual attire going from 36mm-40mm it is by far very comfortable to wear. Thats why when citizen or seiko provide an affordable alternative with a very comparable quality it makes it like tomato/tomatoe comparison sure if you want the prestigious rolex name for at $10k starting point by all means feel free to splurge, however a watch that can meet those standards at under $1k by all means it leaves you with over at least $9k to use elsewhere.
This is a great watch for fans of Datejust type look who only want to spend affordable amounts of money. My only moan is that the face just looks a little plain, perhaps the baton hands could have been beefier. Interestingly the watch looks best when wore as the dimensions, thickness and president bracelet start to stand out. How small can the bracelet be adjusted? Would it fit 6" wrists?
Both watches are great and I had the green version of this Citizen before it was released officially to the European market. But both the Tissot and Citizen are too big for my 17cm wrist. Maybe they fit well but the look of both watches are more classic than pure sport. I wouldnt call them dress watches but the purpose screams for a smaller case size plus the Citizen is not well proportioned on the dial. So I found the Seiko 5 SNK665 with the phenomanel globe dial and a 38mm case size. Unfortunately these watches are no longer produced and although I paid for a used one more than the listprice, it was still lower than both options here. But let me tell you, that if the Tissot or Citizen comes in 37/38mm version, I will be the first one to buy one :)
Salutari again! As always, amazing production, informative and fun content. Thanks for a great start in the new year. Hopefully it will be a productive one for everyone. All the best. PS Do you maybe have a VERO profile? Cheers
PRX all the way for me. The Citizen is a nice watch for the price but has too many little details I don't like. Tissot on the other hand made a pretty perfect watch for my taste. And the price for the Powermatic is still quite fair for what you get.
How absolutely brilliant this one is! Unfortunately I cannot stand these tiny crowns, not when the watch is part of a rotation and has to be reset whenever worn. My red orient kamasu is the same way in that regard, it just irritates me. Still, very tempting!
I’m looking at buying a tissot Prx 35mm quartz version or a citizen tsuyosa? Which is the best choice, even though they differ as quarts and automatic ?
Does it sound weird that I don't want a Citizen watch that is mechanical? Not getting an Eco-Drive is like getting a Subaru that isn't all wheel drive. Eco-Drive is what makes Citizen special.
I mean in my country PRX (Automatic) is over 2X the price. I assume it's probably a better piece but as value goes Tsuyosa slaughters it. That is why Tsuyosa is my first automatic watch.
Tried it on the dial is just too big for me. I think there's off in the proportion of it. I hope they release a smaller version just like the prx but I'm still not sure if it will fix the "problem". The bracelet is good but the design does not integrate well with the head. The PRX has a more apealing overall look. I'm a big Citizen fan it is my first watch I just think they could've taken their time and design it better. Hopefully they release a new version of this.
Hola amigo muy buena tu reseña solo una corrección los calibres de la serie 8 son todos de 21600 alternancias por hora muchos saludos soy fans de citizen buenos bonitos y baratos
I bought that Tsuyosa in Yellow, its fantastic but my 2 gripes that would of made it perfect if fixed... the 8 series Myota has no hacking and the crown is just too recessed to really be able to hand wind if you have medium to large fingers. Other than those 2 gripes its amazing.
My yellow Tsuyosa is hackable, it’s from September 2023. You don’t need to use two fingers to wind it. You just use your index finger’s pillow to press it against the watch itself and you wind it no problem
I always have a problem with a cyclops, it's ugly for me. Otherwise the watch looks great and for this price.... not bad. Now for the question which of the two... PRX, even the quartz version ;) Great video and happy new year !
I love the look and the competitive pricing is brilliant compared to the PRX, but to quote the horse drawing quality meme, the head of the watch is brilliant, the finishing of the bracelet is okay, and the clasp is poor. Whereas I own a quartz PRX, and the quality all over is great. The finishing of the head also carries to the integrated bracelet, and the milled clasp. Also, with the Citizen, it’s a cheaper Miyota movement, that doesn’t hack. I think I’d rather pay the extra for the Powermatic. Yes, the Miyota will be easier to service, but I don’t think I’d have any issues with the Tissot. Overall I’ll probably pick this up when the price comes down a bit, as it’s a lovely design, but nothing I feel a need to own. At around this price I’d rather pick up a Seiko SSK for a GMT sports watch. I think quartz needs to stop being a negative in reviews. Throw a new battery in and off it goes. If I don’t wear it, I don’t need to set the time. Also, the accuracy of quartz over time is brilliant. Let’s stop bad mouthing it. There are plenty of very high quality quartz movements now (GS 9F).
Nice review 😍 I’d like to know your thoughts about the fact that Tissot prx powermatic 80 cannot be served, the movement have no traditional regulator! I mean what’s the point in buying an automatic watch where you can’t do a proper service on the movement? The new Tissot movements are disposable!
Hmm. This is definitely a decent watch but I think Seiko's DresSKX would be a better comparison since they are much closer when it comes to pricing rather than either the automatic or quartz version of the PRX.

Fair point with the original sizing of the Seastar. I guess they can release a mid version as well, a 38 mm version.

Citizen tsuyosa it is the best watch for its money in automatic. it looks very similar to a rolex model, I am very happy and satisfied with my purchase
Was the Citizen really only $300 when it came out? Can't find it from any authorized dealers for under $300. "Sale" prices range from $340 to $370.
they are the same price, yes
Great review thanks
Got mine last month. The Rose Gold and Red dial 🤓
OMG! There is a red dial with gold case as well :))))))
@@BraveBeaters yes sir! Hope it will be available in your country soon 😁
Citizen has been making some amazing watches, the watch community has been sleeping on how great these are!!!!
Nice piece. Wish it had the 9015 movement. it would be an instant buy.
Brilliant watch, I don't agree with the inspiration behind it though. Citizen have a lot of similar looking pieces in their vintage lines, especially around the 70s. As do Seiko and a lot of other brands. Very popular look at that type of time
Can be, I am pretty sure they had similar designs made once with the 70's Quartz hype :)
Cracking review!!!! Excellent
Thank you :)
I saw these on sale in a Citizen store in Ho Chi Minh earlier this year. Really nice for the price, except the clasp, but you can't win them all.
true :)

Since watching Hell's Kitchen (Gordon Ramsey), I wanted to get a yellow, chrono watch. I'll drop the chrono, this is good enough for its price.
haha, I was 100% it was a breitling.
I really like the look of the citizen Tsuyosa with the yellow dial. Can’t seem to find it in the UK easily.
Via online for sure :)
@@BraveBeaters yeah I can get it online I was just hoping to see it in person cause the colour looks nice in pictures but i might hate it. Also would rather not get it shipped internationally.
Great review. That's a good looking Citizen.
Thank you :)
1st 😂. Love the new style BB!
Legend! :D
Both to buy! Best Idea!
Citizen looks like high luxury watch. Beauty.
Got my son one yesterday.. Its a stunning watch.. A total bargain
😂😂😂
Yes. Tissot seems to be a bit behind on this one.
The very comprehensive video covers the two affordable giants. I am confused between these two and Tissot gentlemen, what is your opinion?
Hmm. I would probably pick a PRX. But I would like to see a gentelmen in flesh as well before I would decide :D
@@BraveBeaters Thanks bro, will follow your advice. :)
@@BraveBeaters Bro, PRX doesn't go well in reality. I mean it looks very small on my wrist.
This citizen is awesome
Love the Citizen brand and what they offer considering the price but as you said this one has some design flaws, especially the size of the hands, they're too thin and the crown isn't fully functional as it should be. If they used one of their 9 series movements in this watch with a normal crown and bigger hands, then this could be perfect. But overall I still think the PRX presents better value and much better design and is a better watch either quartz or automatic.
Yes, I fully agree, Sam!
It's true the PRX is better proportioned :)
Great review and video, similar or even better then Teddy Baldessare. I wanted this Citizen before, and now I realized that I will buy it soon)
Solid choice, Tissot, agree :)
I am saving for the green one
It will be sold out then 😂
I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I hate the bubble on the Rolex and I hate it on the Citizen as well :P
haha, You are right :)

Nice watch but they should've put a 9 series movement in it.
Love my yellow Tsuyosa
Haha, Enjoy it :)
It needs to be tried phisically, the bracelet shold be adjustable to 6"

But let me tell you, that if the Tissot or Citizen comes in 37/38mm version, I will be the first one to buy one :)
haha! true words and I feel as well the need for a 38 mm PRX. For me, visually the PRX on bracelet is big, but on a strap, is decent.
@@BraveBeaters good point could work on strap for me, I have to try it out. Thanks!
Salutari again! As always, amazing production, informative and fun content. Thanks for a great start in the new year. Hopefully it will be a productive one for everyone. All the best. PS Do you maybe have a VERO profile? Cheers
Salutare Stefan!
Thank you very much! I wish you as well an excellent year ahead! I don't have a Vero Account. First time when I've heard about it :)
I will buy my first watch which one of this two do you recomend for a starter?
PRX all the way for me. The Citizen is a nice watch for the price but has too many little details I don't like. Tissot on the other hand made a pretty perfect watch for my taste. And the price for the Powermatic is still quite fair for what you get.
I fully agree with you, PRX is a solid design and a solid buy!
" but has too many little details I don't like" - such as?
@@gmshadowtraders just to name a few: bracelet, clasp, date magnifier, crown, movement, so I wouldn't buy one.
Thanks Andrei
Would love this in a white or silver face. Beautiful watch.
Yes because miyota movement belong to KIA. 🤌🤌🤡
What are you talking about😂
I mean in my country PRX (Automatic) is over 2X the price. I assume it's probably a better piece but as value goes Tsuyosa slaughters it. That is why Tsuyosa is my first automatic watch.
Same here
Tried it on the dial is just too big for me.
The dial is wise, indeed. Probably they will update it, at least with other colors if not sizes :)
volume could be better brother
Hola amigo muy buena tu reseña solo una corrección los calibres de la serie 8 son todos de 21600 alternancias por hora muchos saludos soy fans de citizen buenos bonitos y baratos
What we need is a matte yellow dial prx
Haha. That is true! :)
The early ones don't hack. I bought a newer one off Jomashop and that one does hack. @@andriyurenov7215
I always have a problem with a cyclops, it's ugly for me. Otherwise the watch looks great and for this price.... not bad.
Now for the question which of the two... PRX, even the quartz version ;)
Great video and happy new year !
True, I am planning to grab a mint version. Thank you and Happy New Year! :)
I m gonna buy tissot PRX
I really love your video, thank you
I love the look and the competitive pricing is brilliant compared to the PRX, but to quote the horse drawing quality meme, the head of the watch is brilliant, the finishing of the bracelet is okay, and the clasp is poor.
Nice review 😍
I’d like to know your thoughts about the fact that Tissot prx powermatic 80 cannot be served, the movement have no traditional regulator!
I mean what’s the point in buying an automatic watch where you can’t do a proper service on the movement? The new Tissot movements are disposable!
Can be replaced entirely, yes.
At the same price: citizen Tsuyosa yellow or PRX 35 mm blue? My wrist is 17 cm
Hmm. This is definitely a decent watch but I think Seiko's DresSKX would be a better comparison since they are much closer when it comes to pricing rather than either the automatic or quartz version of the PRX.
i gotta ask, does it pull your wrist hair? my wrist is a bit hairy.
