    The insight you brought with the Ironborn has made them equal to Starks, Martells and Targs in my opinion. I now look for deeper meanings in their chapters instead of the bloodthirsty pirates I initially thought on my first read through.

    Very interesting. I also believe that Nagga's bones could've been a boat.
    I'm from Norway, and as a lot of people are aware of(Vikings series being popular and all) the vikings had these long ships with carved heads and tails, and we actually refer to them as "drakeskip"(dragon ships). One famous ship f.ex. bears the name "Ormen Lange"(The Long Snake).

    Just came from the LML livesteam! and i'm already obsessed. I have always noticed how much Theon has Greyking symbolism. He undergoes a sort of death transformation from which he comes out kinda looking like the greyking. Also i find the fact that Aeron keeps saying that only a "Godly man may sit the sea stone chair" and theon actually means godly very interesting.

    So I think the grey king is more than likely from a older Atlantis or something and the part of crashing and resurrecting is really inspired. Him crashing with the wierwood boat seems off. As far as I can tell there is no mention of weirwood trees outside of westeros. The only mention of weirwood outside of westeros is the door at the house of black and white I think. There is a link still between him slaying naga and weirwood. So the grey king killed naga and the demon tree ygg. what if the legends got a bit mingled? Also (tinfoil warning)what if somehow he becomes a greenseer sees the hammer of the waters or some event like that which drowns whole islands in its wrath and he slays tbe beast. It reminds me of the tree in the well at the night fort being described as the tree attempting to pull the moon into the well.

    I remember reading a theory explaining that the Ironborn are descendants of people from the Thousand Isles, who migrated East when their habitat was submerged (possibly by a Children-like race living in the forests of Mossovy), which would explain the legend of coming from beneath the waves - the land they used to live in is now beneath the waves. Alternatively, maybe the Iron Isles were a peninsula connected to the mainland shattered by the Hammer of the Waters and inhabited by a strain of First Men, and "coming into the world from beneath the waves" could refer to that lost land under the sea.

    Love the channel, the ironborn's storyline is one of my favorites in ASOIAF. Sadly, I feel like their part in this saga is often overshadowed by dragons, wolves and lions....I dunno, maybe it's just me being biased but it seems like everybody is consumed by Jon and/or Danny. Anyway, thanks for giving us something to chew on while we wait for WOW to come out.

    Theon will fall and drown in the ice lake at the Crofter's village, but return as a Coldhands-type. What is dead may never die, but rises again, harder and stronger. "Coldhands was the name that the fat boy Sam had given him, for though the ranger's face was pale, his hands were black and hard as iron, and cold as iron too."

    This was great. I've never read the Forsaken chapter, as I keep thinking I'll just wait for it until TWoW, but my resolution crumbles a little every day. I never knew how similar the Drowned God's description was to Christ and to my beloved Lady Stoneheart (she's a pistol, ain't she?). Makes me think about The Dying of the Light, where the modern descendants of the High Kavalaan culture have changed the sex of one of their female founders to reflect their current violent patriarchal values--in which case we could maybe see Catelyn and Robb as metaphorical stand-ins for the Drowned God and the Grey King. Or maybe not.
    Anyway, I'm sure this isn't original to me, but I've been thinking for a while now about that whole bit with the First Men not being seafarers, and how the Iron Islands got settled. Could it simply be that the islands were once part of the mainland of Westeros, drowned by the Hammer of the Waters or a similar catastrophic event? In that case, Naga's bones could just as easily be a petrified Weirwood grove as the ribs of an old ship. It would be one way to isolate yourself from the Others in the Long Night.

    The Grey King defeating a "sea dragon" and taking its "living fire" was probably just him stealing some knowledge from a defeated sea-faring enemy as he captured its crew, from that they learned the iron-working of their enemy; Uthor of the Hightower's sons, or Argoth Stone-Skin. The ship was made of weirwood, maybe the original Hightower. Hugor was promised 44 might sons, and there are 44 standing stones on Nagga's Hill.

  • @Uulfinn

    I propose that the Targaryen house words "Fire and Blood" are straightforward as the Starks. I think it means blood magic. Also I think it's a recipe for hatching dragon eggs. Dany for example, gave 3 lives to "Rhollor" and got 3, dragon babies for it. 3 lives = 3 dragons. Some people say that the horse's life isn't worth a human life, I say that Drogo cared more about that horse than he did almost every human being on the planet. Godda be worth something. Their house words were the source if their power.

    There is one glaring problem with your idea of the First Men and the Greyking. Assuming you're taking the lies of the Andals at face value about the First Men not being a seafaring people (the Arbor? Tarth? Greenstone? I could go on), then this raising an improbable question: HOW DID THE ORIGINAL IRONBORN/FIRST MEN GET ONTO THE IRON ISLANDS IN THE FIRST PLACE?! Namely because, if you believe the Andals' version of history, all of those islands should've been uninhabited until after their arrival, of which I'm about 99% sure that that isn't true.

    • @TheDisputedLands
      @TheDisputedLands  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The answer is the hammer of the waters. There is evidence to suggest the sea level was lower in the ancient past. The thousand isles, the neck, and the arm of dorne are just a few examples. There are suggestive hints of a catastrophic event such as the drowning of whole islands and the hammer of the waters that permanently changed the coastline contours causing some groups to become isolated on newly formed islands. There is also evidence to suggest the myth of galladon of morne from the tarth region is part of theAA/Grey King monomyth which i discuss in the mermaid wife video which i would encourage you to watch. Thanks for watching!

The iron born hasn’t had a weirwood tree for ages? The ones they see are still wood like but still compare them to boats too? So they see boats but their whole religion says it a creature duh 🙄

    Thank you so much for the effort you put into the research and making of your videos. The amount of info you gather, and art work/ imagery you use make for a very demonstrative experience for us viewers. I am a huge GOT/ASOIAF fan. I follow 6 or 7 youtube channels very thoroughly, and after the completion of the show, I have zero doubt that I will be watching every single one if your videos. After watching 8 of your videos, you are now my favorite channel. I have spent countless hours pondering the more obscure and perriferal aspects to this amazing world, and the theories you expand on here will feed my idle musings for a long time to come.
    I appreciate this channel very much

      That is an incredibly huge compliment. Thank you so much! In the meantime make sure to check out some other lesser known channels like Alabastur for theories and Top Shelf Fandom for popular commentary. This comment was a pleasant suprise, thank you!

    I think we can dismiss 'The First Men were not a seafaring people' out of hand. There's clearly many examples of them using sea travel, including as part of their foundational colonisation of Westeros

    • @TheDisputedLands
      @TheDisputedLands  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks for watching. This is sn interesting take Id like to know more about the foundational First Men seafarers that colonized Westeros. Or are you referring to the GEOTD or the Men that came before the First Men.

    • @jamesperkins191
      @jamesperkins191 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheDisputedLands well, at least according to the 'orthodox' legends, the First Men invaded Westeros over the Arm Of Dorne, the Children broke it with magic, but the First Men continued to come over via boats.
      I help moderate a GOT prequels Space on Quora, and contribute to the main ASOIAF/GOT Space, a great deal of my writing is on there or just on general Quora.

    • @TheDisputedLands
      @TheDisputedLands  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamesperkins191 hey very cool. I started out in the old school forums myself. I'm even more intrigued. By the time the Andals invaded the First Men had seafaring technology, but the only foundational First Men to have this technology were the Iron Islanders. Could you expand on where the series referred to these Foundational First Men coming over by ship after the arm was broken?

    • @jamesperkins191
      @jamesperkins191 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheDisputedLands well, Foundational isn't an in-text term, but the Dawn Age legends definitely say 'but the First Men continued to come, reinforced from the sea'.
      Of course we don't really know, so much ASOIAF history is canon-rumours.
      And of course, maybe the history is garbled and the 'reinforcments' WERE the Andals, with the First Men only having the continent to themselves for a few decades or centuries rather than millenia. Maybe the Children were aloof to the differences of Human nations and to their understanding they were ALL just First Men invaders.

      Glad you are liking the videos! My mic is unfortunately all the way up, I have to go back during editing and increase the volume through my audio editing software. I don't have anything to go from so I am really to the point where I am just guessing where the volume should be.
