Tiny overlooked Lorath character fact that no one calls attention to: The speech pattern of Jaquen Hagar is Lorathi but only the Lorathi nobility, who pay tribute to the blind religion that took up residence in the maze maker ruins.
This means that if Jaquen Hagar is the “real” face of that faceless man, he is a noble... like Arya. And perhaps the house of black and white chooses nobles as acolytes. However, if Jaquen Hagar is not that faceless man’s real face, then this is the face of a Lorathi noble the house of black and white assassinated and took his face.
I just think it’s interesting that no one calls attention to the fact that the world of ice and fire dropped the information Jaquen’s 3rd person esc speech pattern of referring to himself as “a man” instead of “i” or “myself” and others like arya as “A girl” instead of “you” or “she” ... is only a Lorathi nobility practice, rather than a common Lorathi style of speech. And as far as I know he is the only Lorathi character in ASOIAF is Jaquen .... so this is almost deliberately giving us the information about Jaquen specifically , letting us know that it’s somewhat important to note that he is nobility
I'm convinced that all of the faceless men are skinchangers, and that the faces they use are of other skin changers
@@HighlandChicken that’s a very interesting idea. I’m not entirely sure how that would work... but I love how you thought outside the box. I’ll think about it and get my DaVinci code pin board out ^_^}
@@serielmcleod1900 Well it's been established that a skinchanger recognises a skinchanger, which is probably the reason Jaquen sought out Aryas help instead of anyone else's.
Also, just looking at numbers, 1 in a 1000 people are skin changers, and there are a 1000 faces in the house of black and white. The HoBW takes in about 3 people a day (so roughly a thousand a year) and they've been around for a 1000 years, so they should have roughly a million faces, but instead they only have a 1000.
Sidenote: there's another connection between the HoBW and the weirwoods/shade of the evening trees. Whilst they don't use paste or wine, the incense Arya smells has the same effect (starts smelling horrible but then smells nice and comforting).
@@serielmcleod1900 Arya do get magic potions to drink as well.
The speech pattern of the Lorathi and to refer to one self as "no one" are very similar...
This sounds good with my theory that jaqen is a warg if he really is lorathi he has the blood of the ifverquevron
This is brilliant - the Fisher Queens marrying into the Great Empire, it explains how both major features (maze, fused stone) appeared in the base of the Hightower. A maze as a connection to the Old Ones and the Fisher Queens, but built with fused stone via dragonriders from the Great Empire. (The maze in Lorath is blocks, not fused stone.)
The maze structures also point back to the Minoan Civilisation of Crete, whose palaces inspired the later legend of the Labyrinth of King Minos, where the Minotaur of Crete was housed, and to the large structures of the contemporary Mycenaean Civilisation whose huge palaces were so large later Greeks imagined that they had to have been built by giant cyclopes rather than ordinary men
Im working on something you are going to like. 😁
Yes! The Minoans were also possibly matrilineal, and worshipped the Goddess of the Labyrinth (we don't have her name), who was basically a snake-goddess of the underworld. It's very Fisher Queen-esque.
@@jon5620 Ooh, good point. I'm not sure we understand their religion that well, since Linear A remains undeciphered, but still, the similarities are hard to ignore
Crete did not inspire the legend of the Labyrinth....that is the exoteric explanation, which is wrong. The surface level esoteric explanation (esoteric has many levels, perhaps infinite), is that it comes from the massive Labyrinth in Egypt, greater than the great pyramids, a truly massive underground complex.
This motivated King Minos to build his Labyrinth; it has nothing to do with palaces of Minoan civilization inspiring the legend; if it is 'just a legend,' what inspired it was the Labyrinth In Egypt, not a 'palace' on Crete.
Exoteric understanding is always so incredibly dumb, I don't know why anyone believes it (and funnily enough, almost all of academia works exclusively in exoteric explanations.... at least publicly)
Also, Cities Of The Winged Men
Possibly literally winged people (harpies?), or possibly humans with mechanical wings.
I'd go with the latter, it suggests a Planetos version of Icarus and Daedalus
Legit thought about how much I missed these videos yesterday
I always check in occasionally just in case.
Same , needed exactly it today
Same! Maybe we could tell we were in for a treat soon?! Have a good day everyone.
This video legit blew my mind. Love the Lovecraft tie-ins and I am getting so so curious about the oldtown/ Euron plotting in winds.
I love that your long format videos are not livestreams. Makes it so good and not distracting at all. Chef's kiss.
Sunday morning with The Disputed Lands. What could be better! Excellent work, as ever.
Thank you Karl!
In Deep Geek gave you the credit for the most enlightening and complete take on your "Origin of Dragons" videos. My favorite too! Keep up the good work!
Welcome back! We appriciate your hard work, passion and dedication.
❤
Another amazing video! Well done, you make so many great connections that don't seem obvious but then when you lay it out I think "of course! How did I not see it?" This one definitely deserves a second, third, and fourth watch.
Thank you ma'am. You gave me the confidence to finish writing this!
This ties up so many loose ends. Well done.
At. Last. It finally all makes sense. You have finally answered my most burning questions. I think that I've finally got to the bottom level of the mythology. This was the missing piece. I am forever in your debt.
🤗 thank you!
that euron nod at the end was a real tease!
When I think the lore of A Song of Ice and Fire is already deep enough, you my dear come up and blow my mind once more.
Hey, thank you!!!
Awesome video. So much insight into the Empire of the dawn and now with this connection with the Fisher queens it makes even more sense that oldtown was an outpost of a seafaring civilization. And the mazes, nice.
When the world needed her most
She returned
This is a great comment, thank you, you made my morning ^^
I get this comment. :)
Amanda really is the best
Crowfood’s Avatar: The Last Daughter
The Last Mythbender?
I was watching a SciShow video on Doggerland - an area of land that used to connect England to the European mainland until it was flooded. This immediately reminded me of the broken arm of Dorne. Doggerland flooded suddenly when the ice containing a great inland lake on North America fell away. I wonder if the disappearance of the Silver Sea is tied to the hammer of the waters.
I think it could be a result of the hammer of the waters. Great observations for sure
Omg when Dany is in the House of the Undying, she has to take a right every time, which is literally how you're supposed to solve mazes in real life...
you could also take a left every time
You can also put your hand on the wall and never take it off while you walk.
Another amazing video, Amanda. 😀 You don't put out a huge quantity of videos but your quality of videos is among the highest of the entire ASOIAF community. Keep up the good work. 👍👏
This deserves two likes, one for content and another for length. THANK YOU!
Great to see you back, I'm sure many of us thought you had gotten too busy again, I know it's difficult raising a family and trying to make videos, glad to see you back, you always make great content!
Someone needs to pay Crowfood to do nothing but these videos
An interesting fact about Leng is that it's hone to two peculiar species of ape. One small and clever as a man, one gigantic but peaceful. I've always wondered if these were the progenitors of the COTF and the giants, and that if our "master race" that originated in Leng is not the result of an admixture between the three species: men, children of the forest, and giants.
Leng is also a Lovecraft reference so that probably has something to do with it
I think they're just clever-er Orangutans
There are mazes in Scotland. So I am impressed with the wall, mazes , Titan of Braavos, basically how much ancient marvels and history has found itself in Ice and Fire Story.❤❤
The Dosh Khaleen seems to be the the legacy of the Fisher Queens as well! A reminecense of a matriarchy.
I noticed this as well... its very interesting. Not sure if this is meant as a symbolic parallel or if this is a historical remnant or memory of the fisher queens.
The first Khal -Mengo united the Dothraki and began the conquest, was compelled to do so by his reputed witch queen -Dosha. More matriarchy. Maybe inspired by the Fisher Queens or a surviving tradition from them.
Another root of the Dosh Khaleen that the Dothraki took with them over the Bone Mountins is probably the Moon Singers of the Jogos Nhai.
@@jonhauge-evaldsson783 Doshi was his mother, to be specific. I think that's a Kublai Khan reference.
Worth considering: Maester Aemon implies to us that Valyrian is a gender-neutral language (PtwP could be a princess, dragons having that self-induced sex change thing that reptiles do), so maybe the Great Empire was always ruled by women, and the Blood Betrayal story is a fable by the later, more patriarchal YiTish culture to justify excluding women from power. "The Opal Emperor tried to upend the natural order and make his daughter his heir..." they would say, "but yadda yadda then the Long Night happened." I mean, Rhaenyra was used as a cudgel against every possible female claimant after her, so there's a parrallel in the text. In that case, the Fisher Queens might have been the same culture as the Great Empire.
Or maybe not. Just spitballing here. But remember: these legends are modern retellings of ancient history. They will contain contemporary social priorities. One of the main features of the Great Empire myth is that it includes all nearly all the land of Yi Ti at its territorial height, and some. For a currently disunited Yi Ti (three God-Emperors; local rulers acting autonomously from any central authority), this would be a powerful element of a golden age myth, that of their country united at home and expanding abroad. We must keep an open mind, as there is still two books left to be revealed, and who knows how many side projects. Will we ever know for sure who the Velaryons fought for in the First Blackfyre Rebellion?
But Doshi's civilization-hating cult only really emerged at the time of the Doom
@@alexandergangaware429 Yi Ti's upcoming civil war is great material for a spinoff, that's what they should make the anime about.
Words are wind, yet your channel, vision and style mean so much. Thank you Crowfoods Daughter for the valuable content. ❤️
Great Theory as usual! One of the best ASOIAF channels. GRRM should hire you to help him finish the next books.
This is honestly one of the very best asoiaf videos I've seen. It draws so many things together, and is highly imaginative while staying rooted in the material. Wish this channel had a larger audience
Thank you so much!
The Sarnor and Leng give me Arnor and Numenor vibes. Tall men from an isle in a southwest bay.
This video also makes me want to read some Lovecraft. It sounds incredibly interesting.
Wow! So many have given theories but this channel gives evidence. Bravo young lady. Bravo!
Hey thank you! It was a lot of fun to write and research.
@@TheDisputedLands well its obvious that you did extensive research and it shows. So many theories about ASOIF are out there but you made it more informative than tinfoil.
Just wanted to say I appreciate you and all that you do for these videos. Love when i see videos from you. Great work!
Thank you so much!
Normal ASOIAF reader/Casual GoT watcher:
ASOIAF is deep but not that deep
Me, having for years followe d channels like the Disputed Lands, Preston Jacobs, the Order of the Greenhand, LmL, Quinn's Ideas etc:
Oh, my sweet Summer Child
Alt shift X, they pushed the grand northern conspiracy to all corners of the internet.
I know! I am fairly confident that I read some other book series, because I did NOT get this much out of it.
Great video but U forgot 1 maze, the 1 under the Great Pyramid of Meereen where Dany chained up her dragons Rhaegal and Viserion.
Our brothers and our bane.
The children and the giants.
The First Men and the children.
The Northmen
The First Men and the Andals.

The Sea & Storm Gods.
The Others and dragons
Nice video once again! You made me think about a parallel I was not aware of before, but which might have been discussed in the fandom before: Might Azor Ahai's three attempts to temper Lightbringer all refer to the same person? Given that he and the Bloodstone Emperor are variations of the same mythical figure (which I also believe), the Amethyst Empress might stand for all of it:
1. water = reference to her Fisher Queen's heritage
2. lion = her role as a tiger woman from Leng
3. Nissa Nissa as his wife
I've alsobeen wondering why the Amethyst EMpress stands out as the only woman among so many male rulers that came before her, and your theory and comparison to Dorne and the Rhoynar definitely makes sense. However, this would mean that the marriage to the "original" tiger woman that changed the rules of succession must have happend previous to the birth of the AE and the BE, if we stick to a more literal interpretation of the legends, otherwise the AE wouldn't have been prior to her brother in the line of succession. If the BE married a tiger woman, and this tiger woman refers to the AE, then this would not only mean that they practiced incest (which wouldn't be surprising give the links between the GEOTD and Valyria), but would also put the AE in a position in which she could fulfil at least the roles of sacrice #2 & #3 quite easily. Sounds like something LML might have already discussed, but honestly still trying to catch up with his theories due to his super long videos and podcasts. Yours are much more concise! Anyway, I would be interested to hear your thoughts about that! :)
Hey! Glad you liked it! That is correct. The amethyst empress and the bloodstone emperor would be the product of that union. They would be the children of the last fisher queen and the sitting emperor of the great empire. I dont think you have heard this theory before. I spent a few months researching and writing it and really strive to do theories that have not been covered before.
@@TheDisputedLands I think you got me wrong, I did not want to imply that I might have heard your theory about the connection between Leng and the Fisher Queens before - I certainly did not. ;-) I was rather wondering whether anyone has ever thought about the tiger woman and Azar Ahai's lion referring to the same person/thing, since it is already widely believed that tiger woman = Lengii woman and Amethyst Empress = Nissa Nissa. That's something I haven't heard yet, but I'm not reading theories on westeros.org or anywhere else regularly, so I might have missed it.
Anyway, one can really see how much research you invest in those theories and I always enjoy your videos, although I'm requently lost when you're not using the international unit system! :-P
@@daniorerio9694 ah yeah. I contemplated using the international system. As a nurse i use it regularly, more so than the american system. The problem is, is that the vast majority if my viewers are American when looking at the break down youtube provides. I also contemplated using both but settled on the just using the one.
Gonna have to watch this one a few times to really get all of it. Great job.
I dont know if it's already said or discussed (recently discovered this channel), but could the Andals not have been related or something to the Sarnori or the mazemakers? I think that Huhzor and Hugo as names for legendary first kings are a bit to similar. The facts that they originate of the Axe (which lie somewhere in between Lorath and Sarnath), their first king of Sarnor Huhzor Amai assimilated the Zoqora, who are described as pale haired (Andals?), the fact both the Andals and Sarnori fought against the Hairy Men. Could be a stretch, but I think it's a maybe worth a look.
Its not a stretch. There are ideas that the andals may have somehow been one of the three civilizations consolidated by huzhor amai. In fact there are some theories being thrown out there that the faith of the seven might be related to the church of starry wisdom so those are some good thoughts there.
Glad to see you back! Waiting for the part 2 of last video
This jus blew my mind i looked deep into the fisher queens last year and concluded they were the progenitors of the rhoynish but this is amazing and well put together the biggest trigger for me id the blindness opening the third eye when the kindly man blinds arya and she wargs the cat i believe that was his intention jaqen also wargs a dog in harrenhal and says he gave it basilisk blood which unless he can magicall hide items like the coin would be impossible for some one who was just a prisoner then recruited as a soldier he would be searched for sure and basilisk only exist in westeros within the neck
Glad you liked it! Thank you!
So happy you're back
My favourite Video of yours so far. Glad you are tackling the more unexplored corners of the lore. Keep it up and thank you :)
I'm so glad you mentioned The Fisher King lore because the RiverRuns and the Tully's have always brought that to mind for me.
Yayyy!!! So overjoyed to see a vid from ya! Hope all is well with you and your’s! Thank you so very much for sharing your thoughts with us all... love your takes on various area’s that other haven’t considered covering much. 💕
Hey thanks!! I enjoy researching mysteries, so if something has already been covered it just isnt as fun to speculate and research. So i tend to be attracted to the topics that havent been fully fleshed out.
WE OUT HERE
Gahh George is apparently getting ever closer to finishing Winds, I gotta brush up on my theories
One unrelated fun fact :
Sarnath is a place in northern India (near Varanasi) where Gautam Buddha first taught the Buddhist religion (Sangha).
@crowfood' daughter: excellent and well researched video as usual
Thank you!
I'm not convinced the amethyst empress and the tiger woman are the same person. Bloodstone married the tiger woman when he was emperor and he didn't become emperor until amethyst was killed by him. The tiger woman was likely from Leng so she would have had yellow eyes. The amethyst empress had purple eyes.
Tiger woman might be a Child Of The Forest or might be a Brindled Man of Sothoryos
Yes! Thankyou so so so much for continuing to create such amazing and in depth content. Keep kicking butt :)
💪❤
Giant men that used black stone(shade of the evening wood).Which means they probably had relations with the woods walkers.was it just the essos version of the alliance of children and the giants?if so,by the looks that the lorathi blocks are black stone, would it be far fetched to say that the wall might actually be werewood(with an added ice glamour,if melisandre can do it,others can too.otherwise why would it ever stop the others?
Definitely a nice way to start a Sunday!
The crypt of Winterfell are also maze like and so are all the hollow hills and weirwood caves in Westeros. And they are everywhere!
Amazing video!
I saw on one of your livestreams with indeepgeek that you mentioned that Joramun might be a giant, do you plan on doing a video about that, and d you think it's possible that only a giant has the strength to use the horn properly and that's why it didn't make a sound when Sam blew it?
Im working on it, i will be touching on it soon but it will be awhile before ill be able to make a video on it.
This is SO good. It is great to see you back again and making quality content
Hello from New Zealand, it's great to see you're making videos again.
For several years I've watched ASOIAF theory videos and only last week were you recommend. It is a damn shame it took so long, because these are great.
I really appreciate it!!!
This so amazing and thoughtfull, I love your videos and ideas, well done, please give us more and more fantastic thoughts.
Glad you like them!!! Thanks for watching 🥰
Finally back!
I checked your channel to if there is a new upload for months and I am very happy now:)
Thanks for watching!
I'm speechless....the work that you've done is just astonishing
Thank you!!!!!!!!!
Odds that Malora the Mad Maid has a full on open third eye?
I mean... its possible now isnt it?
Wait, a serpent god and a spider godess fighting an eternal war . . . Reminds me of rhohor and the great other. With dragons, winged serpents, as beeing of fire beeing rholors Champions and the others, riding in ice soiders the great others champions. Controlling the dead like manipulating a marionetts strings, something cold and old and sceaming . . .
I just want to say that Aria is probably one of the strongest people in the entire story and is overall my favorite character, and I can not wait to see how her part plays out. Also want to say that Jon is my very close second favorite, and I look forward to seeing their reunion in the books!
By all the Gods! I love exploring deep lore in The Disputed Lands. And I am *UTTERLY FASCINATED* by the connection to The Hightower in Oldtown!
Do you think that Moat Cailan also has any connection to these other megalithic structures?
Knowing what we know about the crannogmen and the hammer of the waters i think the children might be somehow connected. Moat cailin is a topic i havent explored much, but its probably got some incredibly interesting origins for sure.
And Yeen!
@@jonhauge-evaldsson783 Exactly. Moat Cailin and Yeen are the two known places whose architectural style is "cottage-sized stone block." Yeen is made of oily black stone, while MC is made of basalt (igneous rock, so formerly molten) which looks oily when wet if the sun hits it right. And Yeen is the only city besides Asshai made of OBS.
Which begs the question: What is the architectural style of Asshai?
Hoesntly loved, loved, LOVED this video! I need more of these super in-depth videos from you on some of the other lore!!! because I've watch your your videos and now im obsessed hahaha
So glad you enjoyed it!!!
Nefer -nine tenth under grund!
From Wiki of Ice and Fire:
Nefer, referred to by travelers as the Secret City, is the capital of N'ghai, and the kingdom's last remaining city. Nefer enjoys a sinister reputation as a haunt of necromancers and torturers.
Nefer is a port city located in the Further East of Essos, at the mouth of a river which ends into the Shivering Sea. North of Nefer are the Thousand Islands, while south of the city lie the Plains of the Jogos Nhai, the Bleeding Sea, and the Cannibal Sands. To the east stretch the remnants of the kingdom of N'ghai and the forests of Mossovy. Nefer is the only northern port east of the Bone Mountains known to maesters.
Shrouded by fog, Nefer is surrounded by tall chalk cliffs. When seen from the harbor, it appears to be no more than a small town. Nine-tenths of Nefer is said to be beneath underground, however, giving the city its nickname of the Secret City.
😲
There is probably a worldwide network of tunnels full of Children of the Forest. We are explicitly told they are woodland creatures, but every confirmed one we have seen has lived underground, they are said to have lived in "hollow hills", and their name for themselves means "Those who Sing the Song of Earth." They are cthonic beings, and I suspect that, given the global reach of seemingly related beings (Ifequevron, Old Ones of Leng, gods of darkness worshipped in the Frostfangs (likely by cave-dwellers), and who knows what is going on with the "shapechangers and demon hunters" of Mossovy), they are far more numerous than has been let on. So it makes sense that Nefer being 9/10ths underground probably means something important in relation tree-magic and its peoples.
Walking the way of the pattern to wisdom is a reference to the late Roger Zealazny's Amber series (which features a Corwin (a deviation name of a lot of characters) and an Oberon) he also the author of Lord of Light and tends to be referenced heavily by Mr. Martin. I think the maze patterns everywhere are a nod to him in much the same way as all the Lovecraft references.
There's also a House Rogers (or even two, iirc they split either during the Dance Of Dragons or the Blackfyre Rebellions) and a House Zeallany...
Martin is a fan and I think they are friends?
Haven’t watched yet but I’m so excited for this!
Perfect video to play while I go to bed, can’t wait to watch it again tmw !
Wow great vid.Do you think Jaquen or maybe Euron will be the ones to put the Mazes below the Hightower to use or will it be lord Hightower and he's daughter? and what can be the possible outcomes of this?
#3 Euron probably believes the Azor Ahai prophecy is referring to himself when telling Aeron the red star bespoke the end.
#4. The dream if the ironborn ships adrift and burning on a blood red sea will probably meet the salt and smoke criteria better thsn anything we have seen so far.
#5. There are kingsblood sacrifices with the priests.
#6. Only death can pay for life.
#7. Euron wants to become a god.
If the maze is a may "into" the wwnet, then there may be a way "out" of it as well. If euron os to become the new night's king it is my guess that he is going to let the night king escape from the godhood... and let the night king become him. This would be why he is talking about an heir worthy of "him" when he should be referring to himself in 1st person as he normally does. This would also fufill the prophecy of AA being reborn again. Euron in my opinion is the 3rd head of the dragon. This would also make him in some sense a god if he is able to pull it off.
#1. The spirits and/or souls of greenseers go into the wwnet. Even varamyr who we dont see as a greenseer but rather as just a skinchanger went into a tree when he first died, he eventually settled into his wild for his 2nd life but the 1st place he went was the godhood. We also know greenseers go into the godhood when they die.
2. Euron is trying to become a god and mentioned a "him" speaking in third person when he was refering to himself. "An heir worthy of him" when discussing taking Dany as his wife. This is not consistent with his character and suggests he was not refering himself.
@@TheDisputedLands That's a great catch on how Euron can possibly ascend or release the NK using the maze as an entrance and exit into the wwn.
Beautiful! Thank You! You got by brain boiling like a sea of blood!
Seems like an obvious reference to Elric of Melnibone to me. The Melniboneans had a labyrinth to protect their island from invasion by the sea. The ships would come in, and be surrounded and attacked in the labyrinth, destroying them. Since GRRM uses the worldbook to reference many inspirations and pay omage to older authors, I figure this is just one of the handful of Elric references he put into the series. The story of the Mazemakers is the same too, once a globe spanning empire, who were slowly forced back and eventually disappeared from the world. Alot of the weird races GRRM includes are probably references to Conan. Basically, the entire worldbook is mostly just a giant book of references, and probably not really that cogently connected except to perhaps share some themes with the main story.
You never fail to blow my mind 🤯
Great to have a new video from you. Insightful as always
Thanks for watching!
Great stuff, thank you. Will be stopping by this one many more times, I think.
I love this video and the connections you have made between the maze makers on Lorath and the Sarnoi and the civilization of Leng. If I recall correctly, when GRRM was first starting to write the books, he had intended on the Targaryens/Valyrians being more like pyrokinetic people that were able to perform pyromancy with mind control. He credits a female friend of his with giving him the idea to include dragons and use this as the source of the Valyrian’s control over the element of fire. Since I believe that the Valyrians and their dragons do share a type of psychic connection, I think a great deal of what you are saying makes sense. I believe through genetic manipulation and fire magic, Valyrians were able to “take on an aspect” of a dragon, which is what gives them some of their peculiar abilities such as being much more resilient to disease, being more resistant to heat, and being able to combine/join their own personal wills with a dragon they have bonded with or claimed. This makes the Valyrian individual and the dragon’s will one and the same and is how they can control them without making dragons their “slaves”. That’s why their bloodline is important and why dragons withered and died once subjugated and locked away. The rider and dragon are stronger when near one another and weaker when apart.
When you mentioned the warlocks opening Danaerys’ third eye and her consumption of the shade of the evening, it reminded me of the same type of reaction and effect that occurred when Bran was fed the possibly cannibalistic weirwood paste and when Arya first enters the house of black and white. Since Euron used the shade of the evening to open his third eye and also used it to force Aeron to open his, it makes me wonder about the true meaning of the test that is administered at the citadel to maesters seeking to earn their chain in the higher mysteries. According to the books, they lock the acolyte in a pitch black room and see if he can “light” the candle. Unless there is more behind it, I believe the maesters have the right idea, but are going about lighting the Valyrian glass candles the wrong way. Since Marwyn and Lady Dustin both believe the maesters do not have room for real magic in the world they are shaping, perhaps this is why the test takers fail. Only since the return of magic and fire made flesh by Dany’s dragons, have students of “magic” been able to open their psychic third eye and “light” the candles. Marwyn and Quaithe have mastered this and perhaps more can do so with the right knowledge, which Marwyn’s group and Bloodraven seem to have access to. This allows them to influence people and events.
I have yet to watch your video on the weirwood trees and the ebony trees of Essos, but I will be doing so shortly. Could the oily black stone and whatever properties it carries that seem to have destroyed Ashhai and its landscape, as well as keeping the jungle from reclaiming the city of Yeen , possibly have been a source of corruption within the weirwood network that seems to spread across the planet through all the underground tunnels, etc. The Ebony trees and the shade of the evening seem way too closely related in their appearance and effects on those who consume their sap to be just a coincidence. Perhaps the shade of the evening and the trees from which they come are a result of some corruption in the land and tree network dating back to the fall of the oily black stone. This corruption could have been cultivated by the bloodstone emperor as it is by the warlocks and Euron. I would love to hear your thought on this.
Lastly, GRRM uses many allusions to Norse Mythology, and the description of those like Dany, Arya, and Bran who have consumed shade of the evening or something closely related, the tastes of meat and honey made me think of the stories in Norse Mythology where people or gods would enter into agreements or tempt one another with the consumption of meat and mead, which sounds much like the meat and honey these characters smell or taste that start almost rancid but become euphoric. It lowers their guard and allows them to be open to persuasion and psychic manipulation. I just finished your azhor ahai video and there’s a line in the world book that I am always drawn to, but it doesn’t see, to get mentioned often. I cannot remember which eastern Civilization it was, but one tells the story of how the long night was ended by AA/the last hero/etc was able to bring the dawn back to the world bc he was able to convince all the more powerful and lesser gods of the world to sing a song together that ended the long night. Your breakdown of the Fisher Queens, the Rhoynar, Leng, and the Sarnoi made me think that this is the truth behind the ending of the long night and it will take a great hero or heroes to bring all the powers together to stave off another long night. Your videos are bringing a lot of questions I had together for me and it’s fascinating to listen to! Thank you so much for your videos and the time and effort you put into them!
No judgment cause it’s a long vid obvs just FYI there’s a media offline screen at about 7:50 :)
Yeah, i always seem to find something to screw up. Thank you for letting me know. If i stick something in a different folder before the video is published the image can end up deleting. I caught a few of them before rendering the video but this one slipped past me.
Really good synthesis of the literature 🤙
Maze of Lorath reminds so much of the giant maze in "Breath of the Wild". It would be pretty awesome if it's like an RPG dungeon full of treasures.
Noonas is equivalent to Nuadh who was the Tuath deDannan (equivalent to the Children). He had a magic sword known as the sword of light.
He is killed by Balor of the Evil Eye (who is similar to Euron) who in turn is slain by Lugh (who possesses a magical hound).
Good analogy, though it is important to point out that the Tuathha De Danann are very different to the Children. They’re closer to deities and the size of full grown men, powerful and very dangerous.
@@Kanikanihia In some respects yes.
But the tuathha, over time, became known as fairies, leprechauns etc. They were called the "little people". Sióga. With óg meaning young.
I love these deep analysis, I barely seen the hour pass.
top notch content and so much insightful food for thought! thank you so much!
Great to hear your voice and ideas as always!
I finally got around to listening to this video. It is absolutely fascinating. You make so many connections and point out so many parallels. I can’t wait until you get around to dropping some more knowledge bombs on us.👏👏👏
mazemakers, sarnori and lengii are all uniquely tall people,, should've been a big hint
Another gem! Your videos are mind- blowing!
Thank you! 🤗❤
Good morning! Looking forward to the listen.
Could the Stark crypts be a converted maze?
I mean its possible... id be intestested to see what the deeper blocked off portions look like.
@@TheDisputedLands It would explain why they're so massive, the crypt is bigger than winterfell itself, which would be absolutely gigantic, winterfell is already larger than any historical castle as is
th-cam.com/video/dZdbpfcxfSk/w-d-xo.html
It'd also make sense for one of these 3rd eye opening mazes to be in the North, considering the strong ties to Greenseers and ski changers there.
Off-topic: Was also gonna say that the Incense Arya smells in the house of black and white gives the same effects as weirwood paste and shade of evening, which is probably very useful in making sure people who want the gift of death feel comforted and don't change their mind.
Wow! That was such a great video! So glad I discovered your vidz - I wish I had sooner! Dany's vision quest in the House ofthe Undying reminds me of my bad acid trip when I was 16. If only I had the instructions of always taking the first right, and always the ladder going up and the same coming out!!! ... Maybe I would not have gotten so lost in my visions and would have been more ready for the 'forbidden knowledge'🍎
Well I, glad you made it here! Welcome to The Disputed Lands!
Whoa...... new video. Thank you! I love your work and your voice.
Why wouldn't the Great Empire of the Dawn have travelled to Westeros via the Summer Sea?
Hi and thanks for watching. Actually, i do think they might have traveled via the summer sea. My video doesnt mention if the great empire went east or west to westeros.
According to AWOIAF, the three great lakes are close together, but one lake got erased accidentally along with part of the river Sarne when TLOIAF map was made.
That doesn't mean the Silver Sea was just as small, of course. It could still have been a huge sea once.
Hey very cool. Where did you read this?
I see you mentioned it was within the worldbook. Is there a specific version of the worldbook with this correction?
@@TheDisputedLands I read it on A Wiki of Ice and Fire. The very bottom paragraph here: awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Kingdom_of_Sarnor
@@driftsolstice3685 okay cool, just wanted to make sure i knew what you were referring to. Believe it or not, the wiki makes no reference to the third lake being erased, if you compare the two maps the third lake was moved further east. It states the line of the river was erased. Yes at first glance it seems implied becase it goes from 3 lakes to two. But ive had conversations about this in the past. The two lakes attached by the mentioned riverline (which are still unchanged despite erasure the error) remain unchanged and the third lake that was altogether separate and completely independent of this erased line appears to be gone but if you look further east you will see where it was moved to. Take a closer look at the wiki source which doesnt mention the erasure of a lake and compare the two maps and where the lakes are located.
@@TheDisputedLands Okay, so you reckon the change to the 3 lakes is a post-HBO map revision like the change in the position of the Jade Sea?
Can you believe me if I say I had to wait for a whole day before I can digest this video and write my comment? You're really a great channel with amazing content BTW.
The sar/ath connection is great, Cymmeri and Sy Mer connection too. But I couldn't catch if you mentioned Naath. Naath is South and Saath is North which is interesting, are we supposed to flip the map upside down?
What do you think about Zoqora and Gipps wives of Huzhor Amai, Zoqora wife rode his chariot so a connection to Dothraki? But Gipps wife seem to do nothing of note, if Gipps wife weren't slain like Amethyst Empress and made into a cloak.
The Sarnori having shared ancestry with the Dothraki is establushed canon
I think they have similar languages too
Missed you Amanda. Glad to see you haven't been idle lol. Can't wait to see you live streaming soon!
Fantastic as always. Thanks Amanda!
This was fabulous and very informative! Thank you Amanda!
not related to this video but: I'm addicted to this channel! ❤
Thank you so much and thank you for becoming a Sworn Sword!
It's taken listening to Lorath been said hundreds of times for my brain to go "ooooh Lorath not Lorax". My dyslexic brains have been thinking its a reference to Dr. Suess all this bloody time
Lorax? That's a great character in A Song of Ice and Fire. Lorax travelled wearing Dr. Suess's hat on an expedition to Sothoryos.
New disputed lands vid? Yes please!
Follow up: I’m going to need seconds
Beautiful! Super well researched! Thank You!
Very convincing as always
Could it be the other way around where the Lengii were banished to the Silver Sea and then became the Fisher Queens?
