    I'd definitely get the "full-sized" Momentum 2.0s if I had the money, however due to time constraints as well as cost, among other things, I find this particular on-ear version to be more within reach, would this be good enough reason to compromise on the around the ear Momentums? As in is it really that inferior?

      menglin xu Momentum Over Ear, On Ear, or In-Ear? Wireless, M2, or Original Recipe? What music are you listening to? We recommend buying them all. But then again, we're obsessed with headphones. If it were these Momentum 2.0s we would probably take them over the M50x. But only if we had the money. If you're on a budget, or you like a tad bit of bass, go M50x.

    Just ordered this, got them half off on Amazon. Great review btw.

    • @audio46
      @audio46  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, we are glad you liked it. Just be careful with ordering things off of Amazon and other online shopping places. Sometimes a good deal is hard to pass up, but sometimes there is a reason why a deal is good. When ordering anything offline you should research the distributor and make sure that they are an authorized dealer, from your country preferably. A lot of the products on amazon are counterfeit, or not from authorized dealers. If the company that you purchased the products from through amazon isn't authorized to sell Sennheiser products, you may not be covered under warranty even if the headphones are authentic. You will most likely be ok, but for future purchases research the dealer first. We hear so many horror stories where people get cheated.

    • @xtrariter
      @xtrariter 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, the review was very thorough and helped me decide. It was a toss-up between this or the urbanite and in the end the momentum's looks tipped the balance. I will be honest I was not aware of these issues on Amazon so I am a bit concerned now. I think this buyer is ok though. goo.gl/tqzzgC
      It says By: Sennheiser, so I am assuming that is ok. Either way I will know by tomorrow when they arrive haha. :)

    • @audio46

      if Sennheiser is the amazon distributor then you are fine. Sennheiser and Amazon are the only two distributors (other than us) that you can automatically trust without looking to seeing if they are a distributor.

    Hi, between the Sennheiser Momentum 2 over ear and the Denon AH-D1100, which you recommend me?

    • @audio46
      @audio46  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We don't carry Denon AH-D1100, or any of their products for that matter. We could not make a recommendation either way, being that we personally don't have access to one of the two. But, when I searched the specs on google the Denon had a better frequency range than Sennheisers. However, they both have good ranges. The frequency response has a lot to do with the sound of the headphones, but it is just a range of the frequencies the headphones are able to reproduce. Frequency range says nothing about the way in which they do it.
      Sennheiser is a more trusted, reliable brand then Denon, but between the models Denon will be able to reproduce more. without having tried them I cant give you a better response than that.
      You may want to look into their return / warranty policy to help make your decision.

    Interestingly, I did a shootout between these and the Bowers & Wilkins P3 headphones. Wow, such a difference in sound design. The P3 is all about the midrange. It's rich, sumptuous, detailed. There is no V shape to the frequency response. The high end is a bit rolled off, while a slight midbass hump warms up the sound, so the overall feel of the sound is warmer than the Senns.
    The Momentums, with their much larger driver (40mm v. 30mm) sound more open and spacious. That's really the main advantage to them. But that V shaped frequency response, with the recessed midrange, never gives you a sense of intimacy. It also tends to rob instruments a bit of their body and resonance. The bass response, while not overly pronounced, is a bit on the bloated side. Sometimes note specificity is not there and there can be too much note overhang, which gave me a bit of a headache at times. The Momentums seem more extended in the highs and provide a bit more
    detail there, but the quality of the treble can get a bit hard whereas
    the P3s stay smooth.
    Ironically, even though the P3 cans have a slight midbass hump, the bass is much tighter and more tuneful than the Momentum 2.0 On Ear. I perceived no note overhang and could always make out the specific note of any bass notes within the frequency range. I did find that I had to break these in quite a while before that midbass hump subsided so that it didn't infringe on the midrange.
    It's the midrange where the P3 wins. It's pretty detailed and capable of pretty good dynamics, both micro- and macro-. Particularly when I played some full orchestral recordings, the sound was rich and lovely, the strings sounding quite natural. Sure, the Momentums exhibited more air and perceived high end detail, but the high end could get a bit strident sounding when pushed (such as brass, strings, or even the top overtone of a female voice). The Momentums highlighted the metallic aspect of a acoustic guitar rather than the resonance of the body.
    I could live with the Momentums in terms of the sonics. They're a fairly compact, nice to look at mobile headphone. But they wouldn't be my be-all, end-all headphone. They're not accurate enough.
    The P3 wouldn't be my be-all, end-all headphone either. But if you're going for a headphone on the go, they're 20% lighter than the Momentum 2.0 On Ear headphones, and they fold up more compactly. You might not be able to put the Momentums into a jacket pocket, but I am easily able to do that with the P3s.
    I do find that I needed to find the sweet spot for positioning the P3 on my ears to get the most balanced sound. The opening in the memory foam where the ear has direct flow with the driver is fairly small. If I don't position them right, the top end can sound too rolled off and the balance goes off. This isn't an issue with the Momentums.
    The more I use the P3s, the more I appreciate them. You have to want a warmer sounding headphone to enjoy these, though. If a large, open soundstage is premium for you, the Momentums will be better than the P3s. Neither are going to win in the slam department, by the way. If you're looking for bass kings, you're probably going to be looking at Beats or the like.
    Tbe P3s are really aiming for musical qualities -- being able to follow musical lines, natural sounding texture, dynamic nuance. Of the smaller, truly portable sounding headphones I have listened to, the P3s are hard to beat if you're more into high fidelity over rock and roll. It reminds me of a friend who used to write for a high fidelity audio magazine. As a writer, he needed accuracy in all of his audio equipment in order to critique high end audio equipment. Once he retired as a writer, he pulled out his JBLs so he could rock the house. Knowingly not accurate, but the JBLs were more fun to listen to when rocking out.

      +Jeff Bellin Hello there. You seem to know what you're talking about. I'm looking to buy new headphones but don't know which to get. I've done a lot of research recently but I am not an audio expert. All of the reviews I've been watching recently have kind of confused me as reviewers use many terms I don't quite know (I can kind of figure it out but I'm not 100% sure).
      What would you say it means when a headphone is "warmer"? Does that mean it would be more resonant and bring out the body of the instrument or sound more than the treble or something? Also what is "roll off"?
      Anyway, I really appreciated your comment as it brought to mind other headphones I might purchase. I'm looking for a preferably compact on-ear headphone and was pretty set on the Beyerdynamic T51i, but now that I've watched this review I am thinking about the momentums 2 on-ear or the P3. I don't know what to do! Would it be worth it to get the over-ear vs. the on-ear when it comes to momentums? They all seem equally good at different things...? Any advice you could offer me? Thanks for your knowledge!

    • @jeffbellin8224
      @jeffbellin8224 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ezhno Blue I know how tough it can be to buy headphones with all the hype out there. A sound designer can tweak the sound balance and feel depending on his own preferences, or depending upon his intended audience.
      I don't want to confuse you with technical detail, but a designer has to make compromises. You'll hear fewer of than the more money you spend.
      Still, within the size and money limitations, the designer has to decide whether he is making a headphone for those who are listening to beat heavy just such as hiphop or rock, or more lyrical and harmonic accuracy required of classical music, jazz, or folk.
      For the latter group, the midrange frequencies are the most important. They require detail and nuance in that region of frequency response. Rock, pop, and hiphop may sound more exciting if the bottom end is big and the top end is bright.
      By making the top and bottom ends pronounced, you end up with a sucked out midrange. Acoustic instruments and voices tend to sound hollow as a result. BOSE and Beats are intentionally voiced like that.
      As headphones sit right on your ear, a pronounced midrange can sound a bit too close and claustrophobic. A very, very slight suckout can alleviate the possibility that the music will sound too close to being on top of you in your head.
      Whether a headphone is open-backed, close-backed, on your ear, over your ear, or in your ear also changes the color of the sound.
      Even with so called accurate headphones, a designer can make them sound a bit warmer by slightly boosting the lower midrange, and even roll off the top end a bit. That will make the music sound richer, give instruments and vocalists more body, more sumptuousness.
      Conversely, boosted bass and treble will rob instruments of some body.
      Finally, the better the design, the better the resolution, like going from a standard definition to a high definition television.
      So understandably, it's confusing. The best thing to do is find someplace you can listen to them, an audio store.
      In any event, tell me the type of music you mostly listen to, your budget, and whether you listen at home or need a pair for mobile use. With that info, I can try making recommendations.

    • @ezhnoblue1647
      @ezhnoblue1647 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jeff Bellin Thanks so much! That's really helpful of you!
      I listen to all genres of music so it's really hard to really pick out a single category to base my purchase on. I listen to electronic, rock, experimental, old music, new music, 80s, classical, almost everything. So I wouldn't go off of my musical taste only. I just want a generally hi definition headphone with clarity, and honesty that portrays the music how it's meant to sound. My price range is about $200-$300 and I generally lean towards on-ear for comfort and size. For now I'm looking for closed-back though eventually I might save up enough to get another pair of open-back just to try them out and use at home. I listen to music while I paint, and my sessions are usually a few hours long and clarity is very important for me. As I mentioned, I was set on the Beyerdynamic T51i, so I'm wondering if there is anything better in terms of portable on-ears. Maybe the Momentum 2's? I don't want the midrange to sound sucked out or hollow as you explained, but I also want a balanced sound. I'm not necessarily a "bass head" so to speak, but a little bass doesn't hurt (not in place of other frequencies, though. I prefer accuracy.) I was told that the Momentums sound "warmer" than the Beyerdynamics t51i (they are in a similar price range). Would you agree with that? Have you happened to try them? After reading your description of warmer/richer headphones with the lower midrange slightly boosted and rolling off the top end a bit, I guess I do tend to lean towards warmer sounding headphones.
      Anyway, thanks so much for being my personal sound consultant! lol

      +Jeff Bellin Oh and what is your opinion of Grado's Prestige series? I was thinking of getting some for at home use. They seem to be pretty polarizing and controversial with audiophiles...

    • @jeffbellin8224
      @jeffbellin8224 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ezhno Blue You want ON-ear rather than OVER-ear (which will rest around your ear, generally most comfortable as the pressure is spread out over a larger area)?
      So I'd listen to the B&W P5 series 2 (designed for use with Apple products) or the Beyerdynamics T 51i. B&W offers refurbished units (well worth it) for $240. Both are musical for all genres, but are on the warmer side. The B&W requires a lot of breaking in. Most dealers give you at least 30 days to listen with a full refund. B&W gives you 60 days directly from them.
