Sennheiser Momentum Over Ear Headphones
First, wow. As of today, February 19th, 2014, these are the best sounding set of headphones I've heard under $500. Granted, I've not heard them all, but what I was able to experience with the Momentums is stellar.
Pros:
- Incredible bass - from volume to accuracy - one of the best I've heard, period
- Mids - beautiful, lush, warm, engaging
- Highs - detailed without being technical, smooth, delicate
- Aesthetics
- Light - for those who are sensitive to heavy headphones, you should check these out
- Perfect clamping pressure - not to strong, not too light - this one feels jussssst right
- Removable cables
- Plugs fit well into phone cases like Otterboxes
- Play controls for media players/phones/laptops
- Fantastic build quality and very comfortable - assuming ears fit
Cons:
- Won't be comfortable for people with longer/larger ears
- Not all that compact - can't fold them down - they pretty much stay the size you see
- Annoying that you have to push them back into the "most compact" form to get them back into the case - means you always have to readjust
- Potentially won't work well for people who wear thick framed glasses
Overall, these are in the very top of my favorite sets of headphones at any price range. The combination of comfort, sound quality and features makes this an incredible set of headphones if you're in the market looking. They are truly versatile as they can literally be used with every genre out there - they can handle it all, and do it with aplomb.

Picked these up when they first came out and immediately put them back in the box after 2 hours of listening, but recently after a little burn-in I've found that they sound absoulutely fantastic especially with a headphone amp like a Fiio e12 or an Audiolab M-DAC. Great review as always, love your videos. Keep up the good work!
What initially turned you off to them?
I guess it was the rolled off treble and the fact that I didn't have a portable amp at the time made them sound a little underpowered despite being a headset that is relatively easy to drive. The amp really made a big difference and opened up the Momentums quite nicely, I use them daily now for on the go use.

I've had these since they came out. Only recently did I connect them to a high end amp. Wow!!! I'm glad I never got rid of them.

Hey man. Enjoyed your review of the Momentum. I like your emphasis on user experience rather than those nit picky sonic analysis. The review seemed well planed as well and the video contents are pretty relevant for the average consumers. Would like a few remarks on whether the headphone gets warm on extended sessions, I think it's pretty important. Keep up the good work :)

Thanks for the review. I was going back and forth on what to buy as I wanted a decent monitor set but also listening sound. I got them and tried them, comparing with several different headphones that I (and my son) owns. Awesome response across the entire spectrum. Handled everything from Dubstep (no muddy sounds from being over driven base) to Whitney Houston peaks. Awesome listening to everything from R&B, Blues, Jazz, Rock, Metal, etc.
Just found a set of these at a local goodwill for $4.99 awesome headphones.

Nice review. I've owned these for about 6 months now and I take them everywhere with me. I do wear glasses so I highly appreciate your mention on that. The first few weeks of owning these, I couldn't stand to keep them on my head for longer than an hour. They would cause the legs of my glasses to dig into my head, right behind my ears. I discovered I could stuff a little bit of material in between the driver and the earpad a bit more room. This gave me just a hair under 1/4" additional clearance and no more discomfort.

Hey. I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for a good review, I bought a pair of these about 1-2 weeks after you released this review and I haven't looked back. They sound and feel great but you where also right about the snuggness of the earphone, but I find that even though it's a tighter fit than most over-ear headphones they still feel great even after hours of listening. I do a fair bit of flying in my line of work and these headphones almost block out all the noise even when in a smaller airplane like a SAAB 2000. Anyways, great review, great channel. P.S: I got the Ivory ones. :)

Great review, I've shortlisted the Sennheiser momentum and Bose QC15. I travel a lot so noisecancelling would be great but I am loathe to get NC that won't play if I run out of battery. I've noted instruments in favorite songs I hadn't heard before on the Momentums so with your rave review I am confident I'll pick up a pair of Momentum over-ear headphones next week when visiting Dubai.

On the topic of wearing these with glasses: I wear glasses and I've had these headphones for almost a year now, I've worn them for over 12 hours straight on many occasions. I have had some slight discomfort starting after 3-4 hours of wearing them without changing the position (although I guess that's to be expected if you wear them for such a long duration) but the discomfort went away as soon as I moved them around a bit and I feel overall very satisfied with these headphones. I agree with all the positive points made in this review in regards to the sound quality and would definitely recommend this product.
After trying out many headphones the past couple of months I finally found what I was looking for in the Momentum. A good movie headphone with awesome sounds!

I currently used HDJ2000 and it was sharp and good but bass was somewhat weaker than other headphones like sony and beyerdynamic.

+HeadphoneReviewHQ Hey thanks so much for such a detailed review! One question about the durability though. I tend to wear my headphones HARD. I bring them everywhere. On my last pair, if the cable got pulled hard, the headphone side plug would eject so nothing would get damaged, but with the Momentum's locking plug, I'm a bit afraid that I'd wreck them if they get pulled. Is this a problem?
Can you use a standard cable? or do you have to buy the locking cable?

Brilliant review fella, I’ve owned the 2.0 and just bought a pair of 1.0, with the 2.0 my ears seemed to touch the inside and were uncomfortable after a while but the 1.0 seem a tad deeper.
Unless my ears have shrunk?!?.
My ears are 65mm top to bottom, would they fit comfortably in these?

Owen Thurston On the being rough on the headphones...it sounds like you could damage the wires. Wouldn't really hurt the headphones but you'd probably end up spending quite a bit of money buying new cables for your Momentums.
Help! - How do they compare to Audio Technica ATH-M50X?
My Sennheiser Momentum headphones have more bass volume in the right ear cup than in the left, is that normal? If not, what can be done? Anyone else experiencing this?
I am using the cable without the buttons for this headphones, is it of the same quality for the one without the buttons given in the box when u purchase this headphones. And are there better quality ones for this headphones?

After listening to the sennheiser momentum, I changed my decision due to the noise isolation and clear audio

How do these compare to the ws55? I know the ATH is like half the price or less but just is the Momentum so much better for the money in terms of sound quality than the Ws55? Very informative and enjoyable reviews by the way!
Currently I am using Sennheiser HD439 and thinking about upgrading my listening experience with the over the ear Momentum but where I live it's very difficult to find live demo of it. So can you tell me, are the ear cups of the Momentum bigger or similar or smaller than HD439? Asking this because I am very comfortable with HD439!

Great review thanks I've been waiting for your review in the Momentums. I actually bought a pair to use with my iPhone 5 and really liked them. But I thought I was missing something so I sold them and got a pair of Beyerdynamics DT880 32ohm, hated it, then Ultrasone Pro900, hated it and ended up buying another pair of black/red over ear Momentums.
I think these are perfect for iPhone, iPad, iPod listeners!
LOL....headphones can be frustrating huh?! I think for MOST people, the Momentums would be one of the last pairs they'd ever really feel the need to get. They're really that good, especially when compared to all the other options out there.
Well, confession time. I actually sold the black/red ones, LOL!! Went with AKG K545's. I believe once I couple those with the Mont Blanc I just ordered I'll have close to the perfect setup I need. I really didn't want to go the amp route but at least I know now that if I do back up to like a HD650 I can push it now!

Was it comfortable? Did you feel the ear pads pushing them against your head?
These were pretty comfortable...I could feel the glasses more of a fact that they're new to me so I'm always aware of them, but they were not uncomfortable at all.

I was wondering regarding the ear cup size. Can someone share his ear measurement and how it worked with those? Thanks!
I gave the measurements of the actual ear cups in the video. They're about two inches tall (inner measurements) and about an inch wide but they're also about an inch to an inch and a half deep for your ears to kind of slide into them. If you measure your ears, that would give you a pretty decent indication of how they'd work for you.
You should review the Nakamichi NK2030 which look almost identical to these.
