I was born in North Queensland Australia where we have 320 days sunshine and about 3 wks full pelt rain and 27 deg C in winter so we are every day in the ocean swimming. I am 80 and I was sickly when little, and my mum had me 1 spoon cod liver oil and we had liver/bacon fried together a lot with veg. I eat an egg nearly every day & only ever used butter. Cook fish a lot in olive oil grilled. I eat sardines, salmon, tuna, herrings, & fresh mackerel and tuna, oysters, prawns (shrimp), and noticed when I went to other end of country Melbourne Victoria where we have just had the coldest winter in 20 yrs (polar vortex winds from antarctica) and not much sun, I try and walk around my big backyard paths in 3 x 10 mins stints when the sun does come out. But I was living in high rise in Melbourne and found I started having trouble with my legs getting weaker, got on to a wheelie walker, but now where I am and trying to get some sun and exercise in the yard (at moment we are total lockdown covid19 since March here) instead of walking around beautiful lake across the road I use my paths around my big yard. I don't need walker assistance now. But my husband who died was Barrier Reef fisherman and we ate lots reef fish and big giant prawns and crabs, Moreton Bay bugs like a small lobster, crayfish, and I was building houses one after the other with my husband getting plenty Vit D. I have grilled fish a lot, done away with the battered and crumbed. But I eat a little bit of everything and nothing is off the menu, in small quantities, as all my family live to late 90's in my lifetime and grandma 104. You can't eat lots of the above seafoods just a little bit of everything. Plenty of vegetables, and lots of fruits in the morning. I do start the day with cereal (different every day) with a fresh fruit apple, pears, kiwi fruit, etc. etc. on top and microwaved 2.50 to warm full cream milk and soften fruit a bit, even though I have my own teeth. One cup coffee morning, 1 cup tea, 1 cup cranberry and orange juice watered down half in glass, and lots of glasses water. No smoking, drinking alcohol, no prescription drugs or vitamins. I get all my vitamins and minerals proteins and carbohydrates from foods I eat. I have 3 meals a day, and every day 3 different things for meals, pasta, a Scotch fillet steak once or twice a month, chicken fried with herbs, no pork, but when invited out I eat anything as one little bit won't hurt you. But no alcohol whatsoever. Lemonade or non alcoholic ginger beer drinks out. Winter lots of soups and stews with rice, pasta or noodles in with diced beef, lamb, chicken, veal etc. I eat 1kg Greek yoghurt a fortnight, and my treat is Old Gold Traditional Dark Chocolate 2 squares at night to sleep like a baby. A 96 yr old lady I used to take grocery shopping put me onto the Greek yoghurt to protect your stomach, and the 2 squares dark chocolate at night, and you will never get depressed. I never get sad. Well, this is very long, but I wanted to let people know the secret of long life is "a little bit of everything, not too much of one thing". I also eat 1 licorice log morn/night, and handful of mixed roasted nuts day (magnesium etc.) and that is about it. When I go out I have a lot of Asian meals because I can't cook them. Norma Condon

Those sources are also good for vitamin K2 in mk-4 & mk-7 which is very important to have with D3. From what little I know, vitamin D3 helps one absorb calcium, but K2 tells your body where to put it. Another rich source is blue cheese, which has a perfect balance of calcium, D3 & K2.
Thank you Dr. Ken Berry i have severe Vitamin D Deficiency. So bad my bones and Muscles ache badly. I had no idea that the Doctors were giving me a once a week Vitamin D 2 been on it for 2 months now. I changed back to Vitamin D 3. No wonder i took Vitamin D 2 for 2 months and never got better. Hello Dr. Berry, first, thank you for all the information in your videos. I have been eating sardines everyday for over a year and love them. I also like the canned cod liver but Wow!! the caloric value is out the roof (800cals/small can). What are your thoughts on this? Should I limit the cans of cod liver to every other day so they fit into my weekly calorie target? Or should this not be a concern unless I start seeing weight gain? Thanks again for everything!!
Yea Salmon!!! You made the list!! Salmon, tuna, shrimp, and of course eggs are the only things on this list I'll eat. You can keep your cod livers and caviar. I'll eat oysters and beef liver every great once in awhile. I'm in the sun all the time so that's not a problem.
Dr. in Canada told me that pretty much everyone is deficient in vitamin d when I brought up my concern that I was deficient. Very reassuring. I eat a lot of vitamin d rich foods and meet the RDI but that's not enough. Now taking 10,000IU/day (plus K2) indefinitely.
It makes sense we're all defficient in vitamin D because while some of us may eat a very healthy diet full off all nutrients, you just need tons of vitamin D and most of that you get via the sun.
Greatness. Just reminded me I need to get some shrimp back into my diet. Long time ago I was told to stay away from shell fish due cholesterol. Now on my carnivorous diet I need to include that back. Thanks
I always take some sun in the AM if it is shining. I have a chair out back and my cat and I bond just about every day: summer and winter. That works, I had a blood test that showed I have plenty of Vit D. I read your book: loved it.
I'm going to try and do this. My Vit D test came back as level 17 and my pcp told me to take 1000IU daily. I ended up taking 10,000IU daily for 10 months and it's back to normal. Now my endo has me maintaining at 5000IU daily. I'm very happy for your channel because I am learning a lot that none of my doctors have mentioned. I can assure you they've never mentioned nutrition, which is a sign itself. lol
A study that come out to correctly adjust the RDA of vitamin D sets it at 8900IU. The government RDA of 600IU is incorrect and 1000IU isn't effective when there's a deficiency. You can get much more than 10,000IU from sun exposure. Magnesium is required for vitamin D absorption so a deficiency in Mg will make it not possible to effectively raise D3 level and maintain it. K2 is also important to take or eat along with D3 as these two nutrients works synergistically to transport and correctly store calcium. You will find supplements that have D3 and K2 combined, this is more convenient.
@@someguy43210 Thank you for this. My Vit D 5000 has Vit K and I am more regularly taking electrolytes and doing magnesium bath salts. I'm requesting Vit D test from my doctor at the end of the week. Just hope he approves and schedules it.
Questions: 1. Are smoked versions of these seafoods still ok for VitD or does the cooking/smoking process deplete some of the nutrients (ie smoked oysters or smoked salmon)? 2. Sardines come packed in oils or hot sauce. Which is the best option? Can we rinse the oil off well enough and still avoid bad oils? 3. How do most people prepare liver? I’ve tried liver and onions and can’t stand it. Is there a better way than frying it and that won’t deplete the nutrients? Thanks. Great video!!
Hi there! I just wanted to suggest something... I follow your TH-cam videos as well as Facebook videos and I love the advice you give and your easy-going approach to keto and carnivore healthy living. Being busy often makes it hard to listen or watch everyone's videos from start to finish. A suggestion, or a request if I may, would you consider summarizing your video content below each of your videos so that people like me can extract the information quickly if we don't have time to watch the whole video. I think that what you are contributing to changing how people think and take care of themselves and their health is commendable and I want to thank you for what you do. I just would really like to be able to save some time daily by sometimes reading what you are speaking about in your videos. Thanks in advance for your consideration of this request!😊

I wish I had Dr Barry as my doctor I would definitely go to the doctor if I had a good doctor like that every time I see one of my doctors that is allowable on the list whatever I walk out of there shaking my head thinking damn I know more than this a******
Essentially the only realistic food sources of vitamin D are from animal products, some of these foods also contain good levels of 25OHD, an even better form of vitamin D. Obviously for this reason, studies indicate that deficiency is much higher among those consuming a plant based diet. Mushrooms contain vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol), this form has an inferior bio-availability compared to vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). P.S. On my channel I have a video on this, where I detail the best forms of vitamin D, and their best food sources.
Any include Moringa or Purslane? Very high nutrient value in these plants, Stinging Nettles too. Although SN needs processing while the others can be eaten off the plant.
Won't suffice probably no matter what you eat. I have been eating tons of eggs, butter, ... and have been always it looks below minimum level. Only taking 4000 IU daily increased my levels after probably 2-3 years to upper limit. I have even surpassed few times and discovered strange thing, not sure if any one have same problem. Instead of having upper limit of 140 2 months ago had 180, way above. Then I stopped for full month to take any vitamin D3 supplement, have only continued to eat in media 6 eggs per day with a lot of butter. After barely one month I have already dropped to 110! Another month with 4000 IU and I'm currently back to around 140. Not sure if it is just me to have some metabolic problem or it same with others. It took me 2-3 years to reach upper limit, but now it is matter of just month or two to go down but then also to be back to top level. I'm guessing that at start I have been completely depleted, now I'm just keeping balance. For now will continue to take constantly 4000 IU and from time to time 2000 IU.
@@mp7925 Eggs elevated the levels? I think varying the intake may increase the storage levels. If you constantly get more than you need the body won't store it. But eating shortly before testing can slew the results.
Has anyone else noticed the shortage of 14.75oz canned Alaskan Salmon @ Walmart? It's been out of stock for approx 2 months here in Southern Arizona. The onlly can on the shelf is Chicken of the Sea, but it's from Thailand. Would love to know the reason, but the poor stockers have zero info.

Hi Dr. Berry, the link to the cod liver is not working, I was wondering if you could provide a new link or what the name of the product and brand is! Thank you!
Olive Oil: I've read in several sources that almost all olive oil is oxidized and more of a toxin for us. I know it's like rust on metal, and as soon as Oxygen hits it, it's Oxidizing. What is your position on this. ? Thank you.
Real olive oil costs at least the equivalent of $25 per quart or litre to produce. Most grocery store brands are fake or, at best, blended with industrial oils, esp those brands sold only in quart or 1 litre sized bottles . Perhaps read Extra Virginity by Tom Mueller for more details. When you find the real thing, buy it in smaller bottles, if you don't get through it within a month.
Yes, oily fish is fab! For Donkeys years I have placed mushrooms in the sun for a few hours to increase their beneficial properties. I sit myself in the sun too🤭🥰. It's worth it.
Good, I eat a lot of free-range eggs. I didn't want to supplement, thank you, this was the best information that I wanted to hear from a trusted doctor!
Thanks for your video! I struggle to get grass fed meat, butter and pasteurised eggs. Are cage hen eggs, "normal" butter and "normal" meat still good sources and healthy?
@@mushypeasplease8872 our livers do produce cholesterol, just not enough to absorb optimal amounts of fat soluble vitamins. For that, we need high quality animal products.

My blood pressure also came down from 135/111 to 118/76 average. I'm binge watching your videos even if it doesn't apply to me. Request if possible. I'm currently going through protracted Benzodiazipine withdrawal after my Dr thought it good to keep me of 5 different benzos over 8 years and I'm struggling a lot with it. I suffered some bad nerve and brain damage and even being off of it for more than 7 months, I'm still experiencing some nasty symptoms. I still can't take any B supplements else I start twitching and I get needles and pins like crazy. Apparently Benzos are fat soluble and so it can take months/years to recovery from it. I was also diagnosed with bipolar depression (after trauma) and was told that I have to be on medication for the rest of my life. The depression however completely disappeared on Keto. I know there are no magic cure for benzo withdrawal, but if you can meybe shed some light as to what is happening to our bodies and how to make the symptoms less intense. Professor Heather Ashton's book is my go to but not many people know about her. Edit: Most doctors don't believe us when we tell them about the symptoms as it mimic other diseases and then they want to treat us for autoimmune diseases etc. and just put us on more medication with nasty side effects. Please help us. Thank you!
Thanks to you Dr. Berry I actually look forward to eating my yummy buttery tasting cod livers. Favorite way is using a heart of romaine with goat or cream cheese topped with cod livers and drizzled defused Meyer lemon olive oil.
Dr. Berry when my older sister contracted Polio she was 7 years old and she is now 76. When she came home after 1 year in the hospital and an iron long there was a large brown heavy glass bottle with a thick pungent smelling liquid that she had to take everyday. I now realize that was Cod liver oil. It was also a requirement that she must have goats milk each day. I remember Mother and I walked to the neighbors and basically slipped the milk into the house and I was sworn to secrecy at the age of four not to tell sister about it because she could die without following doctors orders. Yes diet and the right supplements does make a body healthier. 🙋🏼🙏✝️💕
Hi Dr. Berry, like to share that Grassroots Health of America replied to my email saying that Vitamin D toxicity is only reached from 200 ng/dL (or 500 nmol for Europe, England, Canada, Malaysia, etc). My Vitamin D-3 blood test revealed that I had reached the quite high level of 262 nmol (up from a borderline 65 nmol previously) during the Covid lockdown in Malaysia. Subscribed

Being vitamin deficient is not new as I had to undergo a bowel resection seven and half years ago. Since I only have seven feet of bowel, absorption is obviously an issue.

@R Mack that's what I understand. I bet Doc Berry knows much more. I trust his word and would love to hear more about this from him.
Thanks for the info. Straight up and easy to understand. I did know about the liver myth and read recently how it was actually not true. I love liver and so I am very relieved. I also like tuna, butter and salmon and eggs. I may have a shellfish allergy though, just a stomach discomfort not anyphylactic shock or anything like that. My sister has had it since high school.

I have never used sunscreen and I always spoke out against it. People have lived in the sun for centuries without epidemic cases we have today. Skin cancers seemed to be more prevalent when more people used sunscreens and probably other toxins as well.

Oh and butter too, I forgot butter. I love natural butter.
Wow I need some help with this you gotta good plain
Dr. in Canada told me that pretty much everyone is deficient in vitamin d when I brought up my concern that I was deficient.
I love your nutritional info and, as an LSU graduate, I LOVE hearing your accent!
Hello, Dr Berry!
Your health-related videos are the best. They all are very informative and helpful. Thanks!☺️
Greatness. Just reminded me I need to get some shrimp back into my diet. Long time ago I was told to stay away from shell fish due cholesterol. Now on my carnivorous diet I need to include that back. Thanks
how much vitamin D3 should someone take per day? I believe most of us would like to know.
What brand of vitamin D3 do you take? I'm waiting to get feedback from someone who takes it:)
I'm just enamored with all the background architectural loveliness! yeayy for the golden ratio spiral! 😍
Questions:

Thankyou so much for your advice sir, deep appreciation.

Thanks, Dr Berry, for all your informative videos! Stay safe!!
Dr. Berry your information is always spot on thank you . But i really miss seeing you as my personal Dr. Wishing you and your wife the best in life.
Recent research indicate D 2 is as well effective
Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Dr. Berry, what kind Cod liver you ordering from Amazon . Your link cannot open . Thank You.
Glad there’s some non-seafood sources! I’m more than happy to eat butter and eggs.
Yes, me too.
O K I’ve always said egg yolks are like a multivitamin. Stop throwing out the damn yolks!
Lots of sun gets you up to 40.000 UI a day. One egg has 50 UI and only if the hen got exposed to it.
The amazon link for cod liver doesnt seem to work.
My God, whatever this guy is doing is making him younger, I’ve been watching him for a few years now and his meat diet seems to be making him younger!
I’ve noticed that as well!
Probably all the money he is generating.
@@Chris-kr7gg How so?
Thank you for the information Dr. Berry God bless you and your family 🙏🏽
Random note: I gotta say, I really like that Fibonacci sequence art you've got in the background!
Me to 🔥

Me as well! First thing I noticed, even before the giant B under it. Always reminds of a song written using the sequence.
Ditto!
I weave messages in Morse Code using Fibonacci numbers. Fun times!
Has anyone else noticed the shortage of 14.75oz canned Alaskan Salmon @ Walmart? It's been out of stock for approx 2 months here in Southern Arizona. The onlly can on the shelf is Chicken of the Sea, but it's from Thailand. Would love to know the reason, but the poor stockers have zero info.
whole foods has the same volume can for $3.99 wild alaskan salmon
kerino1 If you have a Grocery Outlet near you they carry excellent wild sourced Alaskan canned Salmon.
@@ijb3155 Thank you. I'll put them on the list.
@@lucylu902 Evidently there *was* one in Tucson that is now closed. I did come across some unknown-to-me independent discount grocers while looking online for Grocery Outlet. Thanks for the great idea. Will be looking this week!! 🙋💕
Try fresh salmon wild not farmed
Hi Dr. Berry, the link to the cod liver is not working, I was wondering if you could provide a new link or what the name of the product and brand is! Thank you!
Thanks doctor Ken Berry, lots of good information, as always!
Thank you so much for another wonderful video Dr berry ❤🇵🇹
Thank you for all you do to keep us informed!
Thank you for sharing I appreciate your videos 💯
Yes, oily fish is fab! For Donkeys years I have placed mushrooms in the sun for a few hours to increase their beneficial properties. I sit myself in the sun too🤭🥰. It's worth it.
Thank you so much, I learned a lot from your video. I now know what food to eat.
WOW everything you just said Ive always craved and now Im D deprived taking supplements ughh thank you so much for the viedo!
Great Info. Thank you very much!!!!
Sun conversion to hormone D occurs ONLY in those individuals who are Not deficient in magnesium (Mg).
They also need cholesterol in their diet too
@@wtfisthishit - I thought our own liver makes all the cholesterol we need?
@@mushypeasplease8872 our livers do produce cholesterol, just not enough to absorb optimal amounts of fat soluble vitamins. For that, we need high quality animal products.
Thanks again Dr. Berry. Your efforts to educate us are PRICELESS. I look forward to your next video. Our love from Far North Queensland.
Thank you Dr Berry for this huge contribution to our wellness. All the best for you.
Thank you Dr Berry, great information I needed, which foods to obtain Vitamin D 3 ❤
I'm just popping in to tell you that today marks my official 20kg (44lbs) drop since the 5th of July! And I'm still going strong, thanks to you, Dr Berg and Dr Jason Fung You guys ROCK!
Thank you!
YESSSSSS please I'm in the exact same place as you are need help with THIS any information would help please
Don’t include Berg, he’s a snake oil salesman and narcissist. He steals from others or makes shit up.
I’m going through something similar after getting off antidepressants!
Sabre Laboratory out of California founded by Victor Salerno... can help with the benzo withdrawal.
Sunlight does not cause skin cancer? I need to get Dr Berry's book
Wonderful video and information. Thank You 😊
Thanks to you Dr.
Subscribed
no real vitamins can be toxic. all studies on vitamin toxicity were done on supplements that are not chemically identical to the real vitamins.
Thank you so much fe all this wonderfull advice
Great channel here! Also magnesium is used to absorb vitamin D which is wise to supplement both I’ve read.
My husband gets pre cancerous spots all the time. You say no sun screen.....then what should he be doing?

Thank you so much for your videos! I came across the channel while trying to find more information on Vitamin D deficiency, which I apparently have as of my last set of labs. Being vitamin deficient is not new as I had to undergo a bowel resection seven and half years ago. Since I only have seven feet of bowel, absorption is obviously an issue.
Thanks Dr. Ken! 👍🏻
I love dr berry. You’re so kind.

Outstanding video Doc.
Thank you so much for this video! I have been told be the VA tha I have low Vit D. I did have a D-25 test my level was 17.4. I will be buy D3 now and hope to fix the many symptoms I have.
How do i know if the fish or pork is feed or naturally raised. My be to expensive abd hard to find. Will a can of tuna do me well enough.
Great info Doc. Can you comment on K2 with D3?
@R Mack that's what I understand. I hear it can keep calcium from hardening arteries, actually help reverse artery occlusions, prevent kidney stones and deposit calcium in right places such as bones and helps with joint health. I bet Doc Berry knows much more. I trust his word and would love to hear more about this from him.
@R Mack what is MK7??
@R Mack which ones do you recommend for d3 and k2?

Thanks for the info. Straight up and easy to understand. I did know about the liver myth and read recently how it was actually not true. I love liver and so I am very relieved. I also like tuna, butter and salmon and eggs. I may have a shellfish allergy though, just a stomach discomfort not anyphylactic shock or anything like that. My sister has had it since high school.
Nice to see you sir, thank u soo much,

I've been starting to get intense phone paint but I thought that it was from something called psoriatic arthritis I guess that's the problem with doing your own self-diagnosis but I'm going to try some vitamin d and damn I'm glad I went back and reread what I wrote for spell check but what I wanted to say was I started to get some intense bone pain not phone paint damn
I have never used sunscreen and I always spoke out against it. People have lived in the sun for centuries without epidemic cases we have today. Skin cancers seemed to be more prevalent when more people used sunscreens and probably other toxins as well.
