Thanks! Glad you feel that way. I’ve been doing this for almost 15 years across the “big car review sites” in Australia and this is my own little project that hopefully becomes big one day, too.
I think the exterior of this car is awesome! The interior is alright, but the shifter dates it 30 years. Also, if you're sensitive to rattles, don't get the kamiq. I have rattles that I can tell where they are just by the weather. Different rattles at different temps, suspension noise and chassis creak when going over speed bumps. Love the car but don't love all the noises.
Thanks for the review. We ordered the Urban Hybrid in February. It should be here sometime next year if we are lucky but that is not a problem. We bought it for the fuel economy mainly and also Toyota's reputation of being reliable if not overly sexy.
Yes, back i-n the early 90s they were toying with the idea of the GN, GS and GZ trims. But it fizzled out and then out comes the GR Sport. Sadly it's not really a sport and just a case of hey look at me in my short skirt but I've got nothing to offer if I take it off.
Hello mate, good review by the way, I've just bought one in scorched orange over here in uk,and its different as inthe screen is a nine inch, and we also have a arm rest, also a better looking speedo look, the only let down is it hasn't got an electric tailgate so I'm putting an after market one in myself, oh and by the way we get road side assistant free for one year in the UK, good review though cheers,,,,,😊
I live in the UK and have an Excel version (urban in Aus) and yep, it's got the bigger screen, armrest, full digital dashboard instead of the Oz style one shown here and a better (leather) gear-lever surround. It seems that cars outside of Australia are much better in terms of equipment levels and specifications.
Fine review. It's a shame that at this price point, $40k'ish and for 2023, OZ spec versions miss out on a full digital dash display, driver's armrest and more modern drive selector which are standard on 2022 overseas models...definitely a deal breaker for me..I'd spend the same money on a top spec Ford Puma ST-V..
It’s lucky because you wouldn’t have found one! I drive three or four cars a week, and have for the last decade. So I notice these things more than buyers might.
To me : Yaris cross design wise is not to bad and I like it more than WW/SQD I do love hybrid + ADW tech + GR [ I think with hybrid AWD is only available for GR model at your market ,let me know if i'm wrong ] If you see the asia model that lunch in Y2023 that assy in Indonesia , the design is not good as your are [personal jude] and i would love if they sale with one design as you have in your market. Cost wise , they don't have AWD model as well all is FWD + hybrid.
I subscribed, enjoying your easy, no nonsense analyses. As to the the new 2024/ 2025 Yaris Hybrid Cross GX, GXL , Urban range, what is the USB charging. No luck, for me searching for this info on Toyota's Australian website. Thank you! Cheers 🥂
Just ordered the urban 12 - 14 month wait. Ordered the Tuscan Gold livery & was told the other day that colour had been deleted because they can't get any!!!!! How does that work?
That’s a shame. But colour options change as part of model year updates. So I’d expect you’re getting a different spec, but not in the colour you wanted.
@therightcar That's right, I went for the Latte with Black roof. Toyota haven't said Tuscan Gold is being replaced by another colour. I'm a bit annoyed but it's not like I can change anything. It's only getting used as a 2nd car. I've got a Lexus fsport on order as well & don't get that until 2025 so it looks like I'll get both around the same time. Neither will be the same spec I'd imagine. Oh & great review, by the way.
Do you need a big boot? Will you use the back seat much? If the answer is no to both of those questions, then you should buy the Corolla hatch. If you want a big boot and big back seat, buy a Corolla sedan. I think both are better than the Yaris Cross GR Sport.
@@therightcar I really don’t think anyone’s hybrid tech is as good, to be honest. And I definitely don’t think Toyota is sitting in a product planning meeting benchmarking Haval.
True. I drove the Haval H6 hybrid recently and was impressed. But it’s not as efficient or user-friendly as Toyota, which is what more than 20 years of experience comes down to.
We get road side assistance in NZ on all new Toyota. My friend has a Yaris Cross Petrol. It’s ok, but I prefer more comfort as in a 2023 Outlander Hybrid or RAV4 Hybrid. I own 2022 Toyota RAV4 Adventure Hybrid. But I think the PHEV Mitsubishi Outlander is very practical vehicle . Especially the 2023 version. Cheers NZ.
Hey mate! Thanks for that. I don’t think anyone is doing CR-V at the moment because there’s a new one coming very soon, and video costs a lot of money to do. So the return on investment is minimal. CR-V I can’t get my hands on either. Likewise Camry - all-new model due next year, so mightn’t be worth doing. However, I’ll see if I can get to a Camry!
I love popping in to other parts of the world for car reviews. I'm in the US, so we don't get these. The Corolla Cross is the smallest Toyota utility sold here. We haven't seen a Yaris anything since the Mazda2 based unit they sold here a few years. This probably wouldn't sell great here in the US, but I'd welcome it. Looks cheap and cheerful.
I'm currently residing in Bulgaria. Here the Yaris is offered in three trim levels, but considering the all-wheel-drive in the top trim, it might effectively have four. I'm unsure about how these trims align with those in the video, but I'm keenly interested and will reach out to local dealerships here in Bulgaria. I've chosen the Yaris for its suitability to our needs-long drives, navigating small villages, and durability. Planning to purchase either a more affordable 2023 by APR'24 or possibly the pricier 2024, although I don't have information on 2024 prices yet.
You compare it to the KAMIQ and the T-CROSS, there is a major problem with that comparson. though. Neither of them are Hybrids. I think a more comparable competitor to the Yaris Cross is the KIA Niro, which does come in all varients (petrol, Hybrid, PHEV, and electric). I am actually debating all FOUR cars (and possibly the Kona) to replace my Honda Jazz. The question for me is do I get a Hybrid or not giving my annual low mileage. If I decide I dont need a Hybrid then the T-Cross/Kamiq are interesting options.
I was about to go for the Yaris cross Trail, but now it has the step as standard, which I find useless and more annoying (I feel I will knock my ankle every time). What the GR has and any other has not, is the 360 cam. Sadly with this smaller screen as now it is a bigger as standard, but I choose Toyota for the security suite, so I appreciate that 360 cam for safe parking.
Hi,is the new Honda crosstar with the new 90kwh a tof compedeter for this Yaris Cross?10 airbags are standard for the Honda,is this also for the Yaris Cross?
I would have loved to buy a Yaris Cross if not for the fact that I have to wait for the Andromeda galaxy to collide and merge with our Milky Way galaxy first before I could get my hands on one. Not good enough Toyota.
@@therightcar I have taken the 2024 Yaris GX and GR for test drives and while I love the look of the exterior I was really disappointed with the interior. It's like Toyota has pruned back on almost every interior feature to save money. Also, living in a hilly region I was disappointed in the lack of power tackling steep hills. Next move is to test drive the Corolla that might have basic features but appears to have nicer finishing on the interior and more grunt.
For myself, the Yaris Cross was a distinct disappointment after a 2018 Yaris Icon. In my view, designed in a hurry, Smaller, barely adequate engine without improved mpg, add-on display center on the dashboard, door far too close to the seat when reaching for safety belt, and the lower inside of the doors attracting road dirt because of insufficient thought in sealing between sill and door.
If I was silly enough to buy a hybrid, it would be a Toyota, but not this one. The Rav 4 hybrid is the only Toyota I'd buy . Then again many better ICE vehicles, in my opinion.

Cool! I reckon you’re on to a winner. I like the Urban!
Wow, who would have thought? I was under the view that GR meant something special, not a backward step over the normal.
Yeah, it was a surprise to me, too.

Toyota has differentiated themselves so much with their Hybrid tech, that they really don’t have any competition- hence their pricing.

What car are you reviewing?
Toyota Yaris Cross in this one… hundreds of others.
Is the petrol version worth buying 🤔
For the right price, yes!
The toyota website says the petrol version GX is $32,542. Where did you get the $27,840 price?
That Toyota website is based on driveaway pricing. I put up MSRP prices where possible, which is the cost before on-roads (rego, dealer delivery etc)
@@therightcar the drive away price makes it too expensive.
Leaves haggle room though.

Not with the AWD one.
Matt, agree that this nugget is much more desirable than the Corolla...more practical and better looking...edgy, even?
